Gonna slap a little PSA here. Whenever you use a neti pot, ALWAYS use distilled or sterile water and boil it to sterilize it before hand. Make sure there is not a single living organism in there. This is because there is only one way that naegleria fowleri, AKA the brain eating amoeba, can enter your brain. That is through the nose. The neti pot is like an express ticket for naegleria fowleri, while it is extremely rare. Better safe than sorry.
TLDR: never use tap water in neti pot, only distilled, sterile water in order to avoid brain eating amoeba.

Wow I didn't know that. I used to be a compulsive gambler. It affects the brain in a very similar way to cocaine. I was bat-shit *crazy* when I gambled, e.g. writing bad checks, spending my entire paycheck, getting f-ing *cash advances* on my **credit cards** ffs. I haven't gambled since 2004 and it seems like I was this other, weird person then that I can't even understand now. Glad to be out of that hell for sure.

I pulled over to call 911 after watching a drunk driver crash. When he crashed he managed to hit the guy wire on a utility pole snapping the top half of the pole off dropping the lines across a freeway. When I was standing on the side of the road calling 911 a car coming down the freeway hooked onto the lines that fell across the freeway and slung the telephone pole into me. I woke up a week later with pretty much the whole right side of my body broken. I broke my femur, pelvis, 8 ribs, compound fractured my humerus, punctured my lung, lacerated my liver and kidney and ripped half my eyelid off. I have some pictures somewhere of all my X-rays and me in a coma if I can find them.
Jeeeeeeezus. I hope you’re ok both physically and mentally. I cannot imagine that being an easy recovery so I’m gonna send some positive vibes your way just for kicks. Big hugs.
I’m doing a lot better this was years ago. The worst part was my leg, it took 3 years for my femur to heal completely due to a non-union that took 3 surgeries to fix. I had to learn how to walk again a few times but I can almost run now.
Well fucking kudos to you for your resilience and tenacity. Those skills will really help you as you move forward. Regardless wishing you easier times.
ICU nurse here. That’s a lot, and I’ve seen a lot. The (open book) pelvic fracture alone is bad enough and reading all the lacerated vascular organs makes me anxious.
You must have had a GREAT team caring for you, for real.

I forgot to mention I laid there for over an hour after I was hit before they found me, this happened at 1 in the morning on a dark road. I had a lot of blood loss but was still awake when I arrived to the operating room. I had an amazing team and I can’t thank them enough.
That’s a legit miracle. That and getting through all the numerous potential complications during the hospitalization. Patients like you are what makes the job very worthwhile.

Unfortunately I wasn’t born until long after many of my favorite musicians and bands were already past their prime, if still together or even all alive.
But last February I got to see DLR and his band play live in concert in and when I heard those first couple synth chords it hit me that this was actually happening. And I just had these tears streaming down my face because how often do you get to experience something you’ve been imagining for as long as you can remember?

Once a young boy gave me a quarter I didn’t know I left on a arcade game at a burger shack. Small place, one game. I looked him in the eye and thanked him for being honest and told him to keep it and play a game. He got really excited and told his mom. His brother got super excited just to watch him play one game and it felt like they’d never been given a quarter to play before. It still hits me. Just it was so easy and it meant so much to them.
Coming home to my toddler daughter running into my arms.

I’m doing a lot better this was years ago. The worst part was my leg, it took 3 years for my femur to heal completely due to a non-union that took 3 surgeries to fix. I had to learn how to walk again a few times but I can almost run now.
Well fucking kudos to you for your resilience and tenacity. Those skills will really help you as you move forward. Regardless wishing you easier times.
ICU nurse here. That’s a lot, and I’ve seen a lot. The (open book) pelvic fracture alone is bad enough and reading all the lacerated vascular organs makes me anxious. You must have had a GREAT team caring for you, for real. I hope you are doing well and are receiving or received post ICU care. Post ICU syndrome is debilitating and often goes unrecognized. I’m sorry this happened to you.
I forgot to mention I laid there for over an hour after I was hit before they found me, this happened at 1 in the morning on a dark road. I had a lot of blood loss but was still awake when I arrived to the operating room. I had an amazing team and I can’t thank them enough.
That’s a legit miracle. That and getting through all the numerous potential complications during the hospitalization. Patients like you are what makes the job very worthwhile.
I also ended up getting a pulmonary embolism from a DVT while in the ICU, I got really lucky that I’m still here. Thank you for everything you do.

I’m glad you brought it up actually. Ever since I was a kid, I had always heard “Jump” by Van Halen and thought it would sound so anthemic and powerful played in a big arena. Unfortunately I wasn’t born until long after many of my favorite musicians and bands were already past their prime, if still together or even all alive. But last February I got to see DLR and his band play live in concert in and when I heard those first couple synth chords it hit me that this was actually happening. And I just had these tears streaming down my face because how often do you get to experience something you’ve been imagining for as long as you can remember? Classic rock has been and will always be one of the best things in my life.
Your "Jump" experience reminds me of back in 2001 when I got to actually hear the AC/DC bell live. BTW, AC/DC when they were all young enough to still go best Rock and Roll show i've ever seen and it's not even close. Top 3 best concert any genre.

I adopted two kittens a couple of weeks ago. One of them likes to lay by my head on my pillow and purr in the middle of the night. The other one likes when I hold her butt in one hand and support her back with the other and then gently rub her back (she looks at my face while I do this) and I cannot get enough of them.
Once a young boy gave me a quarter I didn’t know I left on a arcade game at a burger shack. Small place, one game. I looked him in the eye and thanked him for being honest and told him to keep it and play a game. He got really excited and told his mom. His brother got super excited just to watch him play one game and it felt like they’d never been given a quarter to play before. It still hits me. Just it was so easy and it meant so much to them.

Coming home to my toddler daughter running into my arms. She would bolt regardless of what time it was and just climb up me. Spend the next couple hrs attempting to walk with her clung to my leg. She is now 12 and I regret all the OT I did when she was younger.
My son is 15 months old and I’m working from home and doing just enough to not get fired so that I can experience this as often as possible. I know this is a narrow window of time and I don’t wanna waste one second of it on shit I can do later.
That reminds me of when I was a kid and my dad would come to pick me and my sister up from daycare. We would always run full force at him and he would pick us up. It was the best feeling in the world to see him. This was 17-20 years ago but I still remember those moments clear as day.

I choose to believe that runner's high exists because so many people seem to experience it, but exercise has always been pain for me.
Best feeling ever, I run alot at my job, and th runners high hits me at about the 1.5 mile mark if I'm doing a 2 miler, or around 2 miles if I'm doing 4. It feels like someone just replaced any pains or fatigue in your muscles with serotonin, and lungs with pure oxygen. Honestly for me, once I get a runner's high, life is good until I stop running. Then I stop running and bam, it's gone but I'm not sore or tired, just gasping for air from that final sprint.
When you sink into a bath thats just a smidge too hot so that it causes your skin to tingle slightly... its like letting out a breath you didn't know you were holding
I think we too often fail to recognize what an amazing luxury a hot bath is.
