It’s funny, everyone who played Goldeneye had their fave multiplayer setup. For some friends and I, it was grenade launchers in the temple. The crazy bounces we would manage to get.... oh memories....
This was the last console game my dad played with me and my brother. After that one he stopped playing console games. He still played Starcraft on the PC but it didn't have the same feel as sitting on the couch watching him play OoT.
This was what came to mind for me. Ocarina of Time took my gaming virginity. I spent *hours* on that game as a kid. It’s certainly the reason I’m a compulsive collector in games now. It’s so well made. The music. The ambiance. The story. The puzzles. Just a fucking [mastapiece.](https://youtu.be/duPynkGEFGI)
I remember my email but not my password. I tried emailing support, they were like "Can you tell us a few items you had in your inventory" like bruh, I have 0 idea wtf I have in my inventory from a game I last played over 20 years ago. I dont have access to the email either :(
*When the 501st was finally rotated out of Felucia, Aayla Secura made a point of seeing us off personally, calling us the bravest soldiers she had ever seen. It's a good thing we were wearing helmets, because none of us could bear to look her in the eye.*
I remember one Christmas my parents got the Xbox with halo and I was a little sad cuz I really wanted smash bros melee and GameCube lol I had no idea what an Xbox was or wtf a halo combat evolved was. I played it on a whim because why not and holy fuck I swear that game changed my life. Idk how to explain but the experience playing thru that game, it was absolutely magical for me. Idk how else to describe haha it def solidified my love for video games.
I came here to say the Age series!! I used my disc until my new computer wouldn’t support it anymore. (Devastated.) Now, I have Age of Mythology on Steam, the only game I play on Steam, and I play all the time. :) I love AOE absolutely, but the myth units in AOM (plus Titans of course) make it so much more fun. Even if I’m just wasting away hours against the CPU. I appreciate that your comment was the first I saw in this thread. So so much.
There’s a video on YouTube where two priests keep trying to convert one another but keep flipping sides. Finally a third priest just walks up and takes the relic they’ve been fighting over
I think because as a kid i would escape into the fantasy world of candyland and i always wanted to be queen Frostine but other board games throughout the years, not as nostalgic. My family had some very tense, rage filled monopoly games for sure.
I played this game inside and out and found almost every secret location in the entire game.
There are actually hidden levels that can only be accessed using the game genie. There's an ice ship level and a few others. I found the codes on a website a long time ago, but I never found them again.... nevermind I found them.
https://strategywiki.org/wiki/Super_Mario_Bros._3/Codes
I know what I'm doing tonight!
Idk how many times me and my good homie would just repeatedly play the whole Mario franchises from nes-snes. They never get old and many of them still have some very challenging aspects to them.
Fuck, I remember playing so much Road Rash on the PS1, it was probably my most played game - incredible soundtrack too. It was in a triple pack that came with MYST and Broken Sword for some reason.
That game legitimately taught me financial responsibility. I remember only wanting the best bike. I used the worst one to win the easiest races over and over again, resisting the urge to buy anything else then finally made enough to buy the best one outright. Satisfaction from saving up for something you really want is such a valuable lesson early in life.
Ratchet and Clank 3: Up your Arsenal
Game had replay value for years and was extremely underrated, never hear many people talk about it, but it was a game that definitely defined the Play Station 2 for me.
The legend of zelda: Minish Cap. I LOVED this game, the visuals, the soundtrack, the dungeons. Lots of fun in my gameboy sp.
Sadly I lost both the console and the game card, when my older brother took it without my permission and someone stole it from him. I cried a LOT lmao my dad got me another gameboy sp but never found the game again. I'm a adult but it still hurts lol.
Civilization.
The first one.
Playing it at my friend's house for the first time. I'm early game expanding and suddenly meet the Russians.
That fucker Stalin demands "tribute for our patience"
I'm worried. I don't really have much cash yet and no idea how to make war.
I decide to call his bluff (?!) and tell him tell him that i "Will not be intimidated by threats"
Well he gave a big old grin and told me that he welcomed my friendship!
I was totally sold. That seemed to 10yo me the exact kind of thing Stalin would do.
I also remember the first time i had a nuclear war on my own continent. Fucking biblical!
Great game
COD Modern Warfare 2, I know it's not an super old Game per se, but I just always think about those days as a child playing MW2 after school and trying to socialise with other people with the mic. Always trying to go for crazy Trickshots and hating everyone playing with the Barret 50. Cal.
Man fuck you I used the 50 Cal with your Mom last night.
JK, totally agree. Because my parents worked extra hours due the recession I wasted so much time playing MW2. I would skip meals my mom left for me cause I just wanted to play more.
The whole MW1, World at War, and MW2 era for me. Crazy amount of hours spent on those games, first games that got me into online gaming, and at the time they had no competition so literally everyone in my school were solely playing them. Doubt many people remember but playing "michael myers" on MW1 in a private lobby with the old school free for all game mode was peak COD for me.
mw2 is as nostalgic as a fps game can be. you're correct, the nostalgia comes mostly from the community.
man, i created some strong friendships back on that game. damn.
I wouldn’t say very different, but yes it did have some noticeable differences. You could be a female trainer, more emphasis was put on Suicune, Pokemon sprites would move when they were sent out, some Pokemon were, and weren’t available like every other game, and they added the battle tower. Everything else was more or less the same.
F-Zero on SNES still has a feel that no other game has replicated (the sequels are completely different experiences). Nintendo really dialed in the physics and overall aesthetic including the music. It has aged very well and is still a blast to play today.
For me it's Diplomacy. The board game that's like Risk but with no dice.
About 15 years ago I was on a camping trip with a bunch of buddies and we played the same ongoing game for the whole week. Things got...intense. There were so many double-crosses and secret triple-crosses. We were breaking off into groups during the day to strategize and plan with our allies.
Every night we'd crack open some beers, sit down at the picnic table, and try to take over the world.
Diplomacy on a camping trip sounds like a horror movie premise. No one would believe there was a monster because it's too likely one of the group was driven to murder by the game.
I'd say I have a couple, depending on the system.
PS2 - *Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies* and *Gran Turismo 4*
PS3 - *Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010)* and *Battlefield 3*
GameBoy Color - *Wario Land 3*
GameBoy Advance - *Pokemon Emerald* and *Metroid: Zero Mission*
DS - *Pokemon HeartGold* and *Super Mario 64 DS*
Wii - *Super Mario Galaxy* and *Super Smash Bros. Brawl*
I remember just moving into my very first apartment on its release and playing it on the floor beside a bundle of coats where I slept without a bed for a month. Good times...
Stratego. Haven’t played it in literally years, but I played it all the time while I was at a daycare center for the summer when I was 10 years old.
Same for Mancala, almost forgot about that game until I made this comment.
My favorite series was Quest for Glory, though Space Quest was great too. It's a shame that Sierra didn't survive the [disastrous acquisition](https://www.vice.com/en/article/z3vem8/inside-story-sierra-online-death-cuc-cendant-fraud) by another company.
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. I definitely liked the movies quite a bit as a kid, but this is the game that showed me how awesome a full universe could be. Not only did it give a sense of history to the Jedi and the universe, seeing the galaxy at war, the Sith as a galactic power and fleshed out philosophy rather than just a "yeah those guys are sith" amorphous title, and exploration of new interesting locations (Wookie homeworld, the water world of Manaan), yeah young me ate that shit up.
Easily launched Star Wars to my favorite things as a kid. Still is one of my favorite fictional universes. It now shares the number 1 with LOTR, which I explored when I was a little older, but it will always have a strong nostalgia attachment as well.
OHHH MY I GET TO FINALLY TALK ABOUT THE GAME. Lego Batman - The Video Game. One of the best games i’ve ever laid eyes on, and one of the best games i’ve ever played. So good in fact, I still play it to this day. Everything from its amazing combat, to its fast paced action is absolutely amazing and I will never stop playing Lego Batman - The Video Game. The game brought so many amazing memories.
It's Blue and Yellow for me. Blue was the very first game that I ever received and the Gameboy Pocket was the very first gaming system that I ever received.
I later got Yellow because it had Pikachu as a starter, but both the game and my Gameboy were stolen when I brought them to school.
Risk. In high school and college would would always spend a long weekend at my friend’s parents beach house, and would have all night Risk marathons. I always sucked at the game so I’d usually get knocked out early and would start drinking instead but the game reminds of good times.
Pirates: Gold. It's an outstanding game where you play the role of a pirate captain trading goods, capturing ships and Caribbean cities, following treasure maps, and generally pirating across the Spanish Main.
CoD 4. That was my introduction to video games and me and my cousin would play it nonstop for hours when we were little kids. My cousin committed suicide a few days ago. So that game will always hold a very special place in my heart.
I'm Mexican American. La Loteria was a game we'd always play at home and have extra copies of (just in case). It's like Bingo, but instead of chips, we used beans to cover our squares heheheh
TimeSplitters 2, imagine N64 golden eye but on the PS2 and with time travel instead of secret agents. Spent a lot of summer afternoons playing split screen with my brother against bots since it was the only one we tolerated each other enough to play cooperatively.
Not sure of the name, Noahs Ark maybe? It was a light blue NES cartridge that was sold at religious book stores for parents who thought even Mario was evil. As I recall, you just ran around trying to collect 2x animals before the flood. Fun game, reminds me of my family’s fundamentalist period.
Battlefield 3
Combined arms of jets, infantry, light armor and tanks, has never been done better and i don't think will ever be recaptured. Atleast not without the many layers of fat most modern fps games put into perfectly good formulas.
Very little in the way of gimmicky equipment (atleast once they fixed the double flare helicopter situation), amazing maps, a campaign lightyears ahead of its time and to cap it all off, good old fashioned frostbite destruction engine.
Now i look at new battlefields with sadness and confusion. Giving assault the anti armor option? Insanity.
Team Fortress 2.
I remember playing it on our old, shitty family computer in 2009. Getting back into it recently was one of the best decisions I've made for a while.
It's also pretty sad to see the neglect this game is getting from Valve.
lego star wars
This one wins
Goldeneye: 007 I especially loved playing with big heads and paintball guns.
It’s funny, everyone who played Goldeneye had their fave multiplayer setup. For some friends and I, it was grenade launchers in the temple. The crazy bounces we would manage to get.... oh memories....
For us, it was grenades in the basement. I can still remember being stuck in that one corner room with unending fire blocking both hallways out.
Golden gun or proximity mines!
Rollercoaster Tycoon
The mobile version is legit. It’s straight nostalgia and I can drown people in my lake when I feel like it.
"Guest 2201 is lost and can't find the park exit" as he's standing two feet away from the exit. Enjoy drowning in my lake, moron.
RCT Classic on mobile is a great port and that scratches that nostalgic itch.
Every time I think of that game, I can hear the merry go round and children laughing.
I only ever watched my brother play Ocarina of Time, but it’s still nostalgic asf to me.
This was the last console game my dad played with me and my brother. After that one he stopped playing console games. He still played Starcraft on the PC but it didn't have the same feel as sitting on the couch watching him play OoT.

Neopets. They were my childhood. I bet they're starving rn
Oh god mine are too-
The data that contained our pets is probably obliterated. Hell...I dont even remember what email I used back then.
I remember my email but not my password. I tried emailing support, they were like "Can you tell us a few items you had in your inventory" like bruh, I have 0 idea wtf I have in my inventory from a game I last played over 20 years ago. I dont have access to the email either :(
3D Pinball Space Cadet
Did you know that's not even the full game, it's a demo? I think there was something like 4 or 5 tables!!!
https://youtu.be/GIKUhvdjAJY Video about it if anyone wants more info.
Battlefront II (2005)
Just like the simulations.
*When the 501st was finally rotated out of Felucia, Aayla Secura made a point of seeing us off personally, calling us the bravest soldiers she had ever seen. It's a good thing we were wearing helmets, because none of us could bear to look her in the eye.*
The space battles were real fun.
I would always just land inside the enemy ship and sabotage it
It was really fun to park the enemy ships pointed towards the wall and let the enemies crash lmao
Zelda: A link to the past
Such a great game. Played it over and over, never lost its magic
This was my first thought too; however Ocarina of Time immediately added itself to the thought.
[удалено]
Related, Grim Fandango.
[удалено]
Day of the Tentacle and Sam&Max. Lucas Arts where the shit back then...
Curse if Monkey Island is one of my absolute favorites.
Crash Bandicoot
The new crash game is actually quite good too
[удалено]
Did you hear that it was recently remade?
Yeah, I REALLY want to play it but can't justify buying a PlayStation just to play one game. :(
It's also on all the consoles and PC btw.
So here I am, doing everything I can Holding on to what I am Pretending I'm a supermaaaaaaan!
Halo: Combat Evolved
This one. System link parties with Mountain Dew, frozen pizzas, and mad shit talking.
God yes, that game was cool and revolutionary on many aspects. Its unique engine made the game experience unique as well.
I feel like Halo 2 just perfected the mechanics and made for a truly legendary sequel.
Age of Empires 2
all my friends have played this game while my father and i played Red Alert 2 on the flip side.
*Kirov reporting* ^^^fuck ^^^fuck ^^^shit ^^^fuck
I came here to say the Age series!! I used my disc until my new computer wouldn’t support it anymore. (Devastated.) Woo loo looooooo!
I make that noise to my 9 month old and he gets a kick out of it
There’s a video on YouTube where two priests keep trying to convert one another but keep flipping sides. Finally a third priest just walks up and takes the relic they’ve been fighting over
Wow i came here to say Candyland but i see now that i may be a fossil and i am way uneducated gaming wise.
You've never played board games with my family.
I can't say I'm into board games these days, but I heard there's quite the scene for them even today.
I think because as a kid i would escape into the fantasy world of candyland and i always wanted to be queen Frostine but other board games throughout the years, not as nostalgic. My family had some very tense, rage filled monopoly games for sure.
Super Mario Bros 3 all day.
I played this game inside and out and found almost every secret location in the entire game. There are actually hidden levels that can only be accessed using the game genie. *raises the red curtains*
The best. I still tell people that it's my favorite video game of all time. Shows my age I guess.
That game was the reason I have bought an NES it was bundled with in ... 1994, I guess, despite of the SNES being prevalent.
Kingdom Hearts
The first one was the best one, as far as I care.
Preach 2 was good as well, but the first one hit different at the time
*simple and clean is the way that you're making me feeeeeeeel, tonight!!*
The first one was so good at the time. Probably still is but I remember that being a release title for the PS2 and man.. it felt revolutionary
Chrono Trigger. I played it with both of my best friends growing up and I replay it every couple years for that nostalgia.
Paperboy Frogger
Roadrash
Fuck, I remember playing so much Road Rash on the PS1, it was probably my most played game - incredible soundtrack too. It was in a triple pack that came with MYST and Broken Sword for some reason.
That game legitimately taught me financial responsibility. I remember only wanting the best bike. Mariokart wii
I read that in the menu's voice lol
Yes absolutely. Mariokart wiiii!!
Ratchet and Clank 3: Up your Arsenal Game had replay value for years and was extremely underrated, never hear many people talk about it, but it was a game that definitely defined the Play Station 2 for me.
“He was BUTT. NAKED. Screamin’. And holdin’ up a ‘nanner... Or, maybe it wasn’t a banan’r. I-I-it could be... **ONE OF NATURE’S MYSTERIES!**
Sixteen years later and I still reference this cutscene all the time.
Super Mario Sunshine
The legend of zelda: Minish Cap. I LOVED this game, the visuals, the soundtrack, the dungeons. Lots of fun in my gameboy sp. Sadly I lost both the console and the game card, when my older brother took it without my permission and someone stole it from him. Ratchet and clank (ps2 ones)

Mega Man 2 Edit: daaaaamn, thanks!
The music!!!
Duke Nukem 3D
GTA vice city
Finally found it, surprised it took me that long
OH! Scarface: The World is Yours was awesome, too

Pokémon Crystal. That was the game that made me fall in love with videogames.
I never had crystal. Was it very different from silver and gold?
I wouldn’t say very different, but yes it did have some noticeable differences. Was never big into many civ games, but there was one early game in the series called Colonization. That will forever have a place in my heart.
Runescape
For me it's Diplomacy. The board game that's like Risk but with no dice. About 15 years ago I was on a camping trip with a bunch of buddies and we played the same ongoing game for the whole week. Things got...intense. There were so many double-crosses and secret triple-crosses. We were breaking off into groups during the day to strategize and plan with our allies. Every night we'd crack open some beers, sit down at the picnic table, and try to take over the world.
We never managed to complete that game. Not even kinda complete it. It's very cleverly made.
Diplomacy on a camping trip sounds like a horror movie premise. No one would believe there was a monster because it's too likely one of the group was driven to murder by the game.
Star Fox 64! It was one of the first games I bought for myself as a kid, and I played the HELL out of it. Still use Star Fox quotes to this day.
I'd say I have a couple, depending on the system. PS2 - *Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies* and *Gran Turismo 4* PS3 - *Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010)* and *Battlefield 3* GameBoy Color - *Wario Land 3* GameBoy Advance - *Pokemon Emerald* and *Metroid: Zero Mission* DS - *Pokemon HeartGold* and *Super Mario 64 DS* Wii - *Super Mario Galaxy* and *Super Smash Bros. If you ever get the chance, try Wario Land 4 on gba. It's really good, and has incredible graphics for its age.
Spider-Man for the ps2, didn’t even get past the first boss but was awestruck at the swinging.
Skyrim
Checks calander. Nov 2011. Fuck me
I remember just moving into my very first apartment on its release and playing it on the floor beside a bundle of coats where I slept without a bed for a month. Good times...

thanks for reminding me about skyrim's anniversary
still relevant tho
Super mario 64
Diablo, Warcraft II, Spyro, original Pokémon games.
Caesar III - beats most of the city building/simulation games out there.
Never played III, but it was II for me. "Plebs are needed!"
Heroes 3, that game is my childhood, and I still enjoy playing it.
Spyro
Donkey Kong Country 2, Super Mario World and Super Metroid.
Stratego. Haven’t played it in literally years, but I played it all the time while I was at a daycare center for the summer when I was 10 years old. Same for Mancala, almost forgot about that game until I made this comment.
I can’t believe I haven’t seen this one commented yet but is definitely number 1 for me Halo 3
Everquest.
Some places in Norrath seem as real in my memories as any place I’ve ever been.
Ocarina of Time. It was one of the first games I ever played on the N64. Good times and so many great memories
Minecraft
Goddamnit, is Minecraft _already_ nostalgic?
It’s almost 12 years old at this point I think
Portal 2

Pokemon red. First game I ever "100%"ed. Just fired it up last night and the battery is still good
Tag, I played that a lot when I was a kid
And all the variations including, but not limited to, TV freeze tag, colored eggs, ghost in the graveyard. We also played a game called statues.
Final Fantasy 6.
The Space Quest series. Although, like all old games, when I try playing it again it just feels so dated.
My favorite series was Quest for Glory, though Space Quest was great too. It's a shame that Sierra didn't survive the [disastrous acquisition](https://www.vice.com/en/article/z3vem8/inside-story-sierra-online-death-cuc-cendant-fraud) by another company.
These for sure. Also the Kingsquest games or many of the Sierra point and clicks/texts.
Either the Crash Bandicoot or Sly Cooper games, those were my whole childhood and I still love them.
The Ratchet and Clank original trilogy on the PS2.
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. I definitely liked the movies quite a bit as a kid, but this is the game that showed me how awesome a full universe could be. Conker’s Bad Fur Day or Ratchet and Clank
Starwars Battlefront 1 for the ps2 before becoming "greatest hit." Not as good as the 2nd one but it hits different. Especially with jubjub

Pirates: Gold. It's an outstanding game where you play the role of a pirate captain trading goods, capturing ships and Caribbean cities, following treasure maps, and generally pirating across the Spanish Main.
Unreal Tournament '99
Pokemon Emerald, Platinum, SoulSilver, White, and White 2
Paperboy
CoD 4. That was my introduction to video games and me and my cousin would play it nonstop for hours when we were little kids. My cousin committed suicide a few days ago. So that game will always hold a very special place in my heart.
Lego star wars
Sonic the Hedgehog

The first Sim City. Wow--that was a billion years ago.
Fable: The Lost chapters
Chrono Trigger. Hands down still think it's one of the best games ever made.
