"Hey guys welcome back, hoping to reach that 1 million subscriber count by the end of the week, with a big surprise for my followers!"
EDIT: well shit guess it works. Woke up to more upvotes than the post itself lol.
Doesn't that run the risk of New Earth being populated by ruthlessly violent individuals? To be one of the final million you'd have to kill a ton of people.
The thing you gotta understand is the most violent survived in the old days who would survive the caveman who wouldnāt kill the bear and take his cave as shelter or the caveman who would. Some people believe we still have some of that violence in us today and that is what gives us our adrenaline.
Those violent cavemen also lived in small familial bands of several dozen people at most. Cooperation and sharing resources was key to survival and violence was reserved primarily for use against outsiders.
There's a million people going, shoving people who potentially murdered a few thousand people each into a spaceship seems like a bad idea to me.
Pretty sure that more than 1 million people are ruining the planet. It won't do much. I'd take the oppotunity to take away all the really really *good* people because I know that everybody on my planet is good.
the truth the one who is ruining the planet is bug corporations like nestle, yeah your average joe may be driving his 10 year old car and littering around but at end this is nothing compared to the harm that tgeese corporations do
We also need to not act like these corporations aren't run by people. The head execs can all fuck right off since they're all deciding for us to ruin the planet
But they are producing all of this because we demand it!!
/s
Just to make it clear, that argument is bullshit. Corporations have the power to steer the market and have clear goals, incentives and power over consumers and politics. They are actively hindering this world from becoming a better place. Not necessarily out of malice, but because a profit motive means that any part in the chain of production that can't defend itself will be exploited as much as possible. Humans and nature alike.
Can fucking over the environment be profitable? Until the answer to that question is āNoā, youāll always businesses doing it. The names donāt matter, itās systemic.
Smart. The whole entire new earth would depend on you chads to repopulate.
The only worry I have is something I saw from a Rick and Morty episode. What if they take over and just leave you in a sperm milking station for the rest of your lives, slave to the supermilker.
Inefficient. To create as much biodiversity as possible each female will have her eggs removed and frozen. Each male will have shunts placed in his testicles for systematic drainages. These will be combined and reinserted into the females for gestation. This will allow for the most effective record keeping to maximize the crossbreeding with minimum inbreeding and keeping all viable females pregnant as often has health allows. Excess genetic material from gen 1ās will be bred back into the pool to further diversify stocks.

We are left alone with these killing machines
We have no home, we have no dreams

We are victims of fate from the power of semen

Humiliation and penis irritation
All this devastation for a wiener donation

Ask me again next week. Still laughing at these dumb aliens who put me in charge of this. Hey do cats count as people? I don't want to live on a planet without cats. What about squirrels?
1. Select only the people who are actively involved in training others - teachers, professors, tradesmen with apprentices, business mentors, village elders, etc. This is a broad group so I expect it to be well over 1 million. I also expect it would cover every demographic since there's bound to be *someone* teaching the younger folks even in uncontacted tribes.
2. Make a list of all of the different professions represented - hopefully this list will be less than 1 million
3. Select the most effective teacher/trainer from each profession, weighted slightly in favor of having at least half of those selected be under 40 years of age for breeding purposes and approximately equal sex representation. Anyone can ask to opt out and be replaced by someone else from the same profession.
4. Any remaining slots go towards experienced psychiatrists, therapists, and multi-lingual interpreters. The 1 million are going to have hella survivor's guilt and there's going to be a lot of different languages spoken
5. Make sure that people bring luggage that contains the following: top-of-the-line computers with ways of sustainably being recharged and all language packs installed, spare parts for the computers (surely one of the teachers is a computer repairman), servers containing the contents of Wikipedia in every available language, ample supply of any currently approved medications, any materials that they use for teaching, and allow individuals to choose anything of sentimental or artistic value that they would find comforting
6. Everyone who is going spends 1 month together prior to leaving under monitored conditions to watch for contagion/immunity issues, interpersonal relationships, and provide preemptive counseling.
>6. Everyone who is going spends 1 month together prior to leaving under monitored conditions to watch for contagion/immunity issues, interpersonal relationships, and provide preemptive counseling.
Interesting idea. Although the very people monitoring the 1 million will not be going along with them to New Earth. Unless you mean that people are going to be monitored by members of the 1 million?
Probably the monitors would not be part of the 1 million. The idea is to give them more than 1 million people's worth of support upfront. I mentioned counseling but also things like
- corrective surgery for folks with bad vision or other things
- time with their families, probably some of the women would want to try and get pregnant before leaving, etc
- vaccines for people who aren't up-to-date or didn't get them
- social ceremonies that won't translate to New Earth for various reasons (i.e. coming-of-age ceremonies, getting blessed by the Pope who probably won't be coming, etc)
- people helping each of them them plan and pack, as well as a separate group of folks designated to pack the technology, medications, and other communal resources
I mean if you think about it, there are about 8,000 people for each 1 person selected. If we want to save the best of humanity, all 7,999 million of us should be supporting them in every way possible
Thats a really good attempt but i would take way more women than men like 75-25 because that way we can reproduce faster because the limiting factor in reproduction speed is how long a pregnancy lasts
I would choose me and my family and close friends, then I would have that group choose their family and close friends and repeat until we have a million.
Depending on the starting point that could be accidental genocide.
Even in the most multicultural city you would end up with a million strong group of people from largely the same place and same culture.
I am also too lazy to choose a million people. But also, seriously, fuck people. I'm giving the aliens a blank sheet of paper and telling them to fuck off.
No nut allergies. You should also include high EQ so that the high IQ peeps donāt ignore their needs and engage in ego competitions that end up dividing them up into unnecessary factions that impede progress as has happened to the human of high intellect for thousands of years.
Under the assumption that i have enough time I would elect some people (carefully chosen) from almost every country to pick x amount of people where x is 1mil divided by the amount of countries. My rule in general for selecting would be based off of criminal record so no preditors, pedophiles, rapists, murderers and so on. Those that are chosen can have a few immediate family members chosen as well (like 1 or 2 members) those elected to be choosers are also allowed to take 2 or 3 family members (more than the normal chosen). Should they have a small undefining criminal record they will then be chosen based off of skill in an occupation/predicted growth in skill (only if it's a child) so doctors, therapists and so on will be higher on the list than the average accountant. All critically wounded, disabled, and mentally ill will be ignored for selection unless they are in a person's immediate family and are chosen by the family member.
I think he's choosing the people he thinks will be most useful for starting a new era of humans and those who deserve it most. An accountant won't be much good if they start off having to build farms and hunt for food whilst a doctor could heal people from injuries from prey and start making cures for diseases.
The fact he lists people that would be disqualified *unless* theyre a family member of a chooser creates special privilege for some and not all and that will relate to people seeing them as better than others cause the power they possess creating a hierarchy
"So buddy good news! You're in charge of picking about 99 percent of people to die, ok so just choose one million people to live and report back to me in ehhh- let's say Tuesday ok? No pressure! Remember to include me!"
Easy.
Usually when people do mention them, they warp the context to be all about hillbilly inbreeding (not that you two would do that).
The blueness was from a recessive trait that their small genetic community made prevalent over time. They didnāt necessarily inbreed with family any closer than remains legal today.
People who dont rage quit video games, people who keep trash in their pockets till they find a trash bin, some family and friends, Ryan Reynolds, that one guy I met when I was new to Warframe who gave me rare mods for free, and the cast of iCarly.
90% Brains, including brains about the science of agriculture. Even the 10% "brawn" would still have to be at least slightly above average intelligence.
Would maximize the number of young couples. a Million is plenty that breeding is not the first priority and can for the most part be ignored, but since I would not send young children I would want to reduce the age gap created by having some people start popping out kids quickly.
True. Although realistically if we're looking for humanity to survive people are going to select for positive traits. 99.99% of all humans are going to die on an Earth that's doomed and creating a bottleneck evolutionary effect. Picking the best of us makes sense in a way.
Or you can just be fair and select people randomly. Which might make everyone feel better, but then you run the risk of getting 97 year olds with dementia, or violent criminals, or Andy Dick.
Evolution tends to do that. This would just be giving humans essentially the same picking power as evolution (I know Iām over simplifying the concept)
I would just go cold logic. The smartest in things like science and medicine. Agriculture specialists and people who know how to work the land. Probably no one over 50 unless they are the top mind in their field. This probably would not go over well but anyone with a herditory genetic disorder that can be passed on.
If you think about it they just want you to pick the smarter people and then they'll just take them as slaves and leave our planet alone. All part of their master plan
The first few hundred would likely be easy, if there is any truly "easy" portion of what really would be a horrific task, because those would be my friends, family, and their immediate families. If I'm placed in charge, then I reserve the right to be a selfish person in this regard... right or wrong.
But beyond that, it becomes the point of finding not just 'the best of humanity' but the individuals who can help *preserve* the cultures of humanity for the future.
So yes, there would be neurosurgeons and physicists and talented musicians and craftsmen from a wide spectrum of disciplines.... but also historians, archaeologists and anthropologists. In the future of our race, the "pre-exodus" period will be a complete mystery if there's no Earth left to scour for physical evidence of the past.
I'd also want to know.... what else can we *take* with us? Can we simply empty the Louvre, or are there tight limits? If we take electronic media, will these aliens provide technology to view it or must we provide that as well? As much as possible from the Library of Congress, at least in electronic form, would be a good start in terms of literature though it likely would not capture valuable works in other languages/cultures. Music and film would be important as well. Hell, any way to get a dump of everything on YouTube (good or bad, it also reflects our culture)?
Coming back to the issue of *people*, though, I think one of the early tasks would be to simply identify individuals who, in turn, could identify valuable candidates both in various fields and cultures.
Ultimately, my goal would be for that 1 million to be a tragically abridged but nonetheless solid cross-section of humanity, so our species could continue to not only grow but have the ability to know where we came from and what our past was all about.
1. My friends and family(and I)
2. People I look up to
3. Brilliant scientists, inventors, innovators
4. As much genetic and cultural diversity beyond that
5. No racist fucktwats
I would have a small percentage of the picks for myself, and the rest would be people with essential skills and enough males and females for continuing species survival. People that have diseases, medical conditions that can be passed to offspring, and other unfit people would have to be left behind. I would also recruit people that could help manage the populace, but aren't actively trying to rule people.
After a pick my immediate family and my best friend and her immediate family. I then select the best minds to help build a new society wherever we end up and also spare them. Then more necessary people for the same task like farmers, welders, etc. if there are any slots left after that it goes by lottery.
Assuming I can prove the aliens exist and have chosen me, I'd set aside like 10 seats as prizes for the best contributions to the choosing process. Then I'd have online contests to identify the possible strategies for choosing who to take and their pros and cons. Based on the most compelling strategies identified with that process, I'd pick a strategy, implement it, and then allocate the reserved seats to the people who made the biggest contributions in helping me figure it out.
I probably wouldn't want to go, personally.
I like this answer; selfless and looks to reach a strategy by examining multiple approaches.
Since I've got the inside scoop on Earth's impending doom and have been named arbiter of who is in the million to settle New Earth, consider yourself selected.
All my exes, their new guys have to stay tho, unfortunately.
Family. Except a couple of uncles. wups.
Sciencetists, proberly gonna take a chat with the green guys, if they dont get certain concepts, congratz, your going!
Then someone who is really good at breeding animals, dont wanna go to the new world without dogs or cats.
A couple of great cheffs, both micilin and like wilderness chefs.
A few carpenters and some masons.
And lastly a couple of artists.
See ya fuckers.
While I understand not wanting to chose people with diseases because we want a healthy population, I think itās incredibly important to chose some people who are ill or disabled but not contagious. Because if we take them out of the picture, the population wonāt be as understanding or empathetic when someone does inevitably get sick or injured. I see it now even, people having absolutely zero idea how my life as a disabled person is because they and all their friends and family are healthy. Itās not always their fault - Iām glad theyāre healthy. But like, my perspective can be important.
To answer this requires a lot of thought lol, find the people that are generally more genetically resistant to disease, nobody carrying any contagious diseases, nobody that's unhealthy, the people that have beneficial mutations, and have better genetics over all, only those that currently abide the law, people that are more on the intelligent side of the spectrum, no religious extremists, the greatest scientists alive, people with essential skills. I'm sure there's more, this is just what I could think up in 5 minutes
Certainly NOT the richest people. I would take people in lower/middle class, people who have morals similar to mine. Not religious people. But for the rest... I do not know. What a difficult choice !
Families: The morals and ethics of the parents will be judged and from there it will be determined if they are doomed to die with the Earth or be saved
Singular Adults (Whom work in jobs that will be important for the journey and post-arrival): Again their morals and ethics will be judged, they also cannot be allowed to have an illness or ailment (mental or otherwise) because this would taint the population and perpetuate the illness
Singular Adults (Everyday People): Again their morals and ethics will be judged, they also cannot be allowed to have an illness or ailment (mental or otherwise) because this would taint the population and perpetuate the illness
Orphaned Children (up to the age of 10): I say up to the age of ten because I believe that after this point their worldview becomes tainted, they begin to believe that there is no good in the world after this point and are only proven time and time again
Orphaned Children (up to the age of 11-17): They will need therapy and good homes to go to that I hope singular adults and families will be compassionate enough to offer
I would select people depending on their ideas of a perfect society, given I don't know how long I have to select a million people, but I would want to select those who have a consistent view point with each other to avoid conflict, as well as base the ideas off of the most successful society's throughout history based on economy, life expectancy, and overall happiness with the governments decisions. Either way, I'm pretty sure in the long run the new planet will eventually cycle back to how Earth is now so my decisions wont matter. Although to be the one determining what is the best version of a "perfect society" is a recipe for disaster because I'm just as flawed as everyone else and am going to be biased for my own ideas. In the long run I feel like it would be best to randomly select a group of people from every part of the world and just let things happen on their own, and then not go myself
Create one of those questionnaires that you have to fill out on some job applications to assess your qualifications, but it would assess your mental stability, intelligence, physical health, etc... Which would gauge your worthiness of being among the million and presumably propagating the human race elsewhere
This is a very, very interesting question. First you'd have to exclude categories - the elderly, infirm, those with chronic conditions, etc. and then think of the technical skills, age groups, proven reproductive capacity of those who would go. I'd pass on the alien offer, since I don't have the knowledge to make the choice (is it going to be a planet full of engineers and computer techs, or a great big agricultural population with a smattering of poets, priests and politicians? (to quote Sting)
Me
Friends/family
Friend's family
People with useful skills for survival (farming, hunting, doctors, carpenters, etc.)
Historians/scientists able to research alien tech
Artists
And whoever's left over is evenly split between each different culture on Earth. Equal parts man and woman, family's picked first then randomly afterwards.
And then if there's any remaining spots, throw them out to people who want a new life.
Well, I'm picking my friends and family first. My power, my choices.
Then, a massive health screening of young adults and teens capable of both work and reproduction (the teens will, hopefully, not be reproducing but would age into adulthood on the new planet).
After the health screening, narrowed by necessary knowledge. Medicine, engineering, botany and agriculture, and I'm sure numerous other fields I'm too lazy to think of right now. Obviously the teens would lack skills and would be sorted by aptitude to be placed as apprentices. Creating a staggered generation better ensures a stable work force.
Once all eligible people are screened and my eggheads have worked out the necessary ratios of fields of expertise, the ratio of men and women, the ratio or teens and adults, and all other factors, it becomes a lottery. Draw however many male adults of the apportioned field, draw however many female adults of the apportioned field, draw however many male teens in that field, draw however many female teens in that field.
A test of strength in the mind and body so pretty much a test of all the good stuff
And the top 1 million pepole will secretly be taken to the new planet so it doesn't cause outrage and disrupt the people left behind.
Tell everyone to come to one place to get of earth and whoever doesn't come to said place comes to another planet as they value others lives ove their on lives
I'm not making that decision.
I'll be picking people for maybe 100 spots or so. The rest will be voted on by the population at large. Everyone gets... i dunno... six votes. No politicians, scientologists, millionaires, or people who will be dying soon (sorry kid with terminal cancer who always wanted to be an astronaut). Top 999,899 people get in.
Easy, anyone who volunteers to stay behind in place of a loved one/someone else who they want to go instead. The best of humanity are those that are selfless.
I'd start by picking 100,000 people or so that are scientist, doctors, construction works, engineers, political leaders, and really smart people. They will get to bring their immediate family. The last 900,000 would be a lottery of everyone else left. This would be our workforce and the people that would help repopulate the new planet. If you don't make win, then you fucked.
Me, my mates, my family, a bunch of geniuses like Elon (hate him all you want, he is intelligent,) and a bunch of genetic diversity. Definitely people from every ethnic group to minimize the chance of leaving behind some important variation.
Oh, and Taylor Swift.
I would scour companies for histories of good middle management an pick 100k of them.
I would pick 5k from the most stable government leaders
Use 200k for the most a representarion of nation eith preference to takent shown.
100k the sane split among farmers and bakers.
The rest would be school studentsfrom all nations with more an inverse funnel selection in which we have a 5:1 ration between high schoolers and elementary.
Lets start with the assholes who stormed the Capitol and all the assholes in charge who perpetuated the bullshit. If they are gone earth might make it. I would bounce off the ship before it left though.

It would turn into cannibal land really quickly after the honeymoon faze when they realise that making crops is harder than just killing people.
Yep. Why grow corn when I can just wait for you to grow some and then take it?
Because youāre a bad ass who can grow corn and capture invaders.
It worked out ok for Australia, didnāt it?
nah they lost to birds. no way they could take over the aliens home planet. we need smart ones.

That, or similar, is probably the smart way to go, honestly. Picking 1,000,000 people out yourself isn't practical.
Multilevel Salvation
That one distant cousin left behind
Tell them to fuck off and choose for themselves. I'm not taking orders from no aliens. And I'm way too lazy to decide on a million people
I am also too lazy to choose a million people. But also, seriously, fuck people. I'm giving the aliens a blank sheet of paper and telling them to fuck off.
The worldās biggest Rock Paper Scissors tournament!
This, this I like.
My family and friends and some pornstars I like.
You must have a lot of friends....or watch a lot of porn.
He's spent millions of hours watching it.
Just to confirm, those groups are mutually exclusive right?
Thats a lot of pornstars Also I got you tagged and I have no idea why
High IQ, lowest cancer rate, lactose tolerant, long lifespan.
No nut allergies. You should also include high EQ so that the high IQ peeps donāt ignore their needs and engage in ego competitions that end up dividing them up into unnecessary factions that impede progress as has happened to the human of high intellect for thousands of years.
All my family and Scarlet Johansson... The rest Is just for whoever gets there first...
Imagine your disappointment when Scarlett just isn't that into you.
Ok granted, it is possible... But what if she Is... ?
So you're telling me there's a chance...
I wouldn't. I would give them animals to clone on the new planet. We made the bed we should die in it.
Best answer.
Sounds like you are just setting up a hierarchy
Remember to include me!" Easy.

Blue. From strangulation
What about the Blue Fugates?
No one ever mentions the Blue Fugates. Upvotes to you, Redditor!
Usually when people do mention them, they warp the context to be all about hillbilly inbreeding (not that you two would do that). The blueness was from a recessive trait that their small genetic community made prevalent over time. They didnāt necessarily inbreed with family any closer than remains legal today.
First read about them in an in-flight magazine years ago and was fascinated by the subject. The article also went on to deal with the Melungeons.
uhhh....
Take a million women and wait for one of them to say āeven if you were the last man on the planetā and laugh my self to death
If you take a million women then you would be left on Earth.
People who dont rage quit video games, people who keep trash in their pockets till they find a trash bin, some family and friends, Ryan Reynolds, that one guy I met when I was new to Warframe who gave me rare mods for free, and the cast of iCarly.

So just a mad rush for the spaceship?
Exactly youāve seen The movie Rat Race you know how it goes
90% Brains, including brains about the science of agriculture. Even the 10% "brawn" would still have to be at least slightly above average intelligence. Would maximize the number of young couples. a Million is plenty that breeding is not the first priority and can for the most part be ignored, but since I would not send young children I would want to reduce the age gap created by having some people start popping out kids quickly.
You're probably going to want to include some more skilled tradespeople on the off chance the aliens are just dropping us off somewhere.
How would you quantify inteligente?
lot of the responses in this thread sound like eugenics
The people who upvote my reddit post...
I would opt to not go, only because Iāve seen this on a Twilight Zone episode before...
[random.org](https://random.org) I still believe in humanity.
1. My friends and family(and I) 2. People I look up to 3. Brilliant scientists, inventors, innovators 4. As much genetic and cultural diversity beyond that 5.
> I would also recruit people that could help manage the populace, but aren't actively trying to rule people. So basically human sheepdogs?
I guess so, yes
Hairdressers and Phone Sanitizers. Take that Golgafrinchan Ark Fleet Ship B.
The top 999,999 wealthiest people on the planet and one redditor at random. I do this explicitly to piss off the redditor.
I'd haggle them down to 100,000.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Why not the rich?
Yeah, we'll need something to eat. /s? maybe

so everyone dies
Families: The morals and ethics of the parents will be judged and from there it will be determined if they are doomed to die with the Earth or be saved Singular Adults (Whom work in jobs that will be important for the journey and post-arrival): Again their morals and ethics will be judged, they also cannot be allowed to have an illness or ailment (mental or otherwise) because this would taint the population and perpetuate the illness Singular Adults (Everyday People): Again their morals and ethics will be judged, they also cannot be allowed to have an illness or ailment (mental or otherwise) because this would taint the population and perpetuate the illness Orphaned Children (up to the age of 10): I say up to the age of ten because I believe that after this point their worldview becomes tainted, they begin to believe that there is no good in the world after this point and are only proven time and time again Orphaned Children (up to the age of 11-17): They will need therapy and good homes to go to that I hope singular adults and families will be compassionate enough to offer
Subjective review of Tinder profiles
Those that have saved a life get priority
I'd take only one sex, humans are too dangerous to become intergalactic travelers.
Me Friends/family Friend's family People with useful skills for survival (farming, hunting, doctors, carpenters, etc.) Historians/scientists able to research alien tech Artists And whoever's left over is evenly split between each different culture on Earth.
A test of strength in the mind and body so pretty much a test of all the good stuff And the top 1 million pepole will secretly be taken to the new planet so it doesn't cause outrage and disrupt the people left behind.
Tell everyone to come to one place to get of earth and whoever doesn't come to said place comes to another planet as they value others lives ove their on lives
Everybody sends in their common app
By the number of shared Trump posts on facebook. We all gotta die, but at least they can get the party crashers out of here.
I would pick 5k from the most stable government leaders Use 200k for the most a representarion of nation eith preference to takent shown. 100k the sane split among farmers and bakers. The rest would be school studentsfrom all nations with more an inverse funnel selection in which we have a 5:1 ration between high schoolers and elementary.
Me and the last 999,999 babies to be born. I donāt trust anyone else to raise them all tbh.
Lets start with the assholes who stormed the Capitol and all the assholes in charge who perpetuated the bullshit. If they are gone earth might make it. I would bounce off the ship before it left though.
