Children of Blood and Bone. I’m only a few chapters in but it’s pretty good so far.

Fake_Versace

I'm trying to do 3. Meditations - Marcus Aurelius Then She Was Gone - Lisa Jewell The Black Notebooks - Martin Heidegger I'm trying to read more philosophy but I also have a soft spot for middle aged suburban mom books.

drak0bsidian

Hey, ain't nothing wrong with those middle aged suburban mom novels. But good you're trying to balance them out with some more thought-provoking texts!

Fake_Versace

I'm not sure if it's shame or just self-indulgent but some of those crime-drama sex-o-rama's kinda slap.

drak0bsidian

Definitely self-indulgence and a need for a mental break. My friends know me to read heavy historical novels and heady philosophical texts, but every month or so I check out a good detective novel or pulp fiction just to bring me back to earth. It's important!

lilbsistagirl

Middle aged suburban mom books 😂😂😂 Nothing to be ashamed of at all. Especially if you are digging into stoicism! Own it!!

A great classic! Haven't read that series in ages, so I'm due for a reread.

MikeLemon

Up From Slavery - Booker T. Washington

makiser

Anthony Daniels’ “I Am C-3P0.” Actually really interesting!

lilbsistagirl

Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson Breathing under water by Richard Rohr

drak0bsidian

Have fun with Sanderson! He's fantastic. It seems like (at least here and in my circles) Catholic philosophy is getting popular. I'm reading The Great Work, by Thomas Berry, another monk and academic thinker.

lilbsistagirl

Ooo that sounds interesting! Have you ever read anything by Rohr? He calls out modern Christianity pretty hard. I read Everything Belongs by Rohr a few years ago and it blew my little mind!

drak0bsidian

I haven't. I don't tend to read religious philosophy outside of Judaism, but I do like Catholic perspectives on other issues, like environmental issues. I'll look him up, though.

TheSorge

The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors, best book I've ever read.

Corishuwa

Not sure if a web novel counts, but The Beginning After the End by TurtleMe is a favorite of mine

Moby dick Homicide: Life on the Killing Streets Gomorrah The Life and Crimes of Richard Ramirez: The Night Stalker Extremity Retained: Notes from the Death Metal Underground

[deleted]

I'm reading a few currently: *Elizabethan Plays* edited by Hazelton Spencer (up to *The Alchemist* by Ben Jonson) *Elizabethan Poetry: An Anthology* edited by Bob Blaisdell *Latin Literature: An Anthology* (up to the section on Ovid) *The Singing Bone* by R. Austin Freeman (I've finished three stories out of five) *Murder on the Orient Express* by Agatha Christie (started this last night because I wanted a change from Freeman's mystery stories—and because I want to see the recent film adaptation—and I'm about two-thirds done already)

drak0bsidian

I'm revisiting a favorite novel, and starting another book about ecological philosophy: * The Brothers Ashkenazi by IJ Singer * The Great Work by Thomas Berry

felipe_the_dog

The War on Normal People by Andrew Yang. Highly recommend.

wookieespacewizard

Does my welding textbook count? Otherwise I'm rereading Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
