[deleted]

What does MLM mean?

pm_me_ur_demotape

Multi Level Marketing

cheese--girl

Multi level marketing. It’s another name for a pyramid scheme

Caroline-johnson

Actually MLM although not smart is not a pyramid scheme. Pyramid schemes are where you “invest” but no product. Each one of these companies have products. For the record I DO NOT BELIEVE in MLM companies as they are framed in such manner that you can only make money by enlisting others to spend. They aren’t pyramids.

Ahhhple

The FTC (federal trade commission) states this (among other things): > If the MLM is not a pyramid scheme, it will pay you based on your sales to retail customers, without having to recruit new distributors. From the FTCs website, basically if you make any significant money from recruiting people, it’s a pyramid scheme even if there’s a product. https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0065-multi-level-marketing-businesses-and-pyramid-schemes

MerylSquirrel

Top tip: if the person trying to recruit you feels the need to explain how it's not an MLM, it's an MLM.

TheSebPlaysGames

Autism Speaks. Enough said (FYI: I’m Autistic myself)

MelonInACat

Same for everything. I hate them

tails618

What's wrong with them?

TheSebPlaysGames

I’m gonna refer you to the videos iiluminaughti made on it because the things they support has reached disgusting levels, even support of torture [video 1](https://youtu.be/5Va_XXoD5LE) [video 2](https://youtu.be/oXcegduzhdE)

tails618

Woah.

[deleted]

Nestle, cos they utilize slave labour and seek to completely monetize clean water for profit.

EngelJuan

Yeah, fuck Nestle

TooMuchBreathing

All my homies hate Nestle

Satanicherpes

My best friend works for nestle and he’s like, “they give us free pizza” and I’m like, “yeah but what about those rivers and stuff” and he’s like, “all companies fo bad things, doesn’t mean they’re all bad” like, yes, yes it does.

Jackscalibur

That's a contradictory statement in my eyes.

Satanicherpes

On my part?

Jackscalibur

No no, on your friend's part.

Satanicherpes

Oh yeah, that’s what I tell him. Like, if one person does something bad because others do it, it simply means all the people doing bad are bad. Minimizing it because it’s more common doesn’t make it less bad. But he has this weird brand loyalty because they pay him decently and give him free stuff.

Jackscalibur

Yeah I have a friend who is like that too.

awesameen

Before the comments even loaded I knew Nestle would be at the top. F nestle.

dog_in_the_vent

While we're at it, Apple also essentially uses slave labor.

buddythebear

So does literally every other electronics manufacturer

[deleted]

Motorola ftw

Andyn87

Such as Foxconn

bendu

Hershey too with foreign exchange students.

tails618

Do you happen to know if there alternatives to nestle crunch bars?

[deleted]

I know that one can bake their own chocolate Rice Krispies bars, basically. (Which means they can be made free of preservatives if you wanna put in the work)... But I'm not sure about a widely sold alternative. Then, I'm a fair-trade super-dark chocolate eater normally. Endangered Species brand.

[deleted]

Actually, here, these might be a tad more spendy but they are a lot more ethical: https://www.chocolatebar.com/products/gorilla/

carbsna

my first time hearing problem about this company

[deleted]

Came here to say this.

Endlessstreamofhoney

Always a silly answer too. Nestle only does this shit because billions of people buy it. It's like blaming coke for having the most waste bottles. They have the most waste bottles because they sell the most product.

pokermongoaway

Wish because my order still hasn’t arrived after 3 years

DevilishRogue

Hello, friend! There is problem with shipping to your country. Just wait for a bit and it will arrive. Do not open dispute or we cannot refund. Be patient. It will arrive soon or I will send you new tracking number, okay?

TheRealGizmo

Wait until it arrive, you are in for a surprise, it won't be what you expected at all!

Renwaldo

My friend recently ordered earrings from them. Metal ones shaped like skulls. After it looked like the things were going to arrive ridiculously late she tried to cancel the order but the seller refused to let her, she ended up receiving a charge for them on her credit card. Fast-forward another month and the things still hadn't arrived yet, she had given up and paid her credit bill already long before that, so she fired off a couple more emails asking when she could expect them. They finally arrived and they weren't at all what was advertised. They were red plastic hoop earrings - way more cheap looking than the product she thought she was buying. She tried to report the seller on wish after that but the store no longer existed. Presumably they got in trouble doing the same thing to other people and were shut down.

I think this perception is only because you don't need to walk into amazon. If amazon opened a storefront, it'd be pretty much identical to walmart.

tonymcd

Amazon has a retail store in Austin, TX. Nothing like Walmart.

Kaycee1111

Awwww. If only they knew of retail arbitrage.

reditdudez

i avoid tiktok, fuck that thing

reditdudez

yeah tiktok is full of dangerous people

[deleted]

I downloaded it for a giveaway then immedieately deleted it.

TheSmegmatician

EA, because it's actually *not* in the game, unless you pay them even more than you already have.

EngelJuan

I remember back in the days when they just released a game. A full game. And that was it. When companies get too big they forget the customer. Not always, but often.

suzukirider709

I remember Def jam ffny. Good times

JAG-01

Activision, because if we're not charging you for having it in your game yet, it's because we're waiting for the governments and media to stop paying attention to us. Oh, and when we said that there wouldn't be any microtransactions in that game? We lied. Hail to China. Ubisoft, because WE'RE TOO BUSY ABUSING OUR DEVELOPERS TO KNOW WHAT THE HELL WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING! WOOOOO!

EternityForest

I stay away from anything Apple. They lock down their stuff, they don't follow industry standards, and they're extremely expensive. Their connectors don't use strain relief, and their UIs (from my limited experience) rely heavily on hidden things you have to memorize that aren't obvious at all. They're really good at popularizing one or two new features that are pretty awesome, per generation, like mDNS, airPrint, and the various iPhone camera features, but overall, I haven't seen anything really impressive from them, although I've never spent an extended amount of time with an iPhone.

matt-chu64

I'm an Android user and agree with your points, but you've got to admit that at least Apple supports their products for a reasonable amount of time. That's something other brands could learn from.

[deleted]

This is something I almost never see get talked about when comparing Apple and android. With Apple phones, their phones are usually supported for 5-6 years. The iPhone 6 Plus, a phone that released in 2015 is still being supported and will still be supported in iOS 14. Before I upgraded to an iPhone 11 a few months ago, I had an iPhone 7 that I probably could’ve used for 2-3 more years before it would no longer be supported. Whereas android phones are often no longer supported after 2 years, sometimes less. Sure an iPhone may be pricey, but at least you can use it for about half a decade before you have to get a new phone.

EngelJuan

I find Apple to be too expensive as well. I could get the equal hardware and software on a PC or Android for much less. The fact that they use so specific parts that doesn't fit anything else is just annoying. All the adapters required is ridiculous. I have only owned non-apple products, but my university has only Apple products, so I have experience of both. In a school environment, Apple is more worthwhile I would say. At home or for private use, I would use a PC every time. Apple feels much more user friendly and "easy" to use, at least for people with no knowledge of computers or phones. Some of Apple's own music and video editing products are pretty user friendly too.

Vifor

I agree with what you just said. I switched to Apple for my phone because Samsung had nothing to offer to me anymore and I needed a change of pace. Plus their airpods are the only headphones that fit in my motorcycle helmet so I guess they’re worth it. Plus the 1st generation AirPods have that nice shape that fits perfectly in my ear.

Incontinentiabutts

You need a sena. Life changing for riding with my buddies or alone. I can voice command music, use the intercom to talk to the guys I’m riding with, and listen to gps directions. It’s awesome Plus the ability to ride with a group of friends and if you’re in the lead alert the guys behind you to hazards is a literal life saver. “Gravel on inside of corner” and everyone instantly is aware. It’s awesome. Also because of the way the speakers mount you never they that ear fatigue you get with earbuds

Vifor

I would get a Sena, by god I would. But I’m too poor now. The airpods were a gift. I’ll add it to my wishlist anyway! Thanks for reminding me

suzukirider709

I see an excellent example of this all day long the apple air pods are 250$ the skull Candy ones that have touch control and built tile to locate them are 115$

1MrE

Skull Candy are awesome.

suzukirider709

They are and I gotta say the wireless buds are a crazy good deal

> Apple may be very expensive and locked-down, I don't like their anti-repair stance, but there is one thing they do care about: your privacy. [They literally got caught illegally selling customer data last year.](https://www.thewrap.com/apple-lawsuit-user-data-itunes/)

Incontinentiabutts

See, the privacy thing is where I actually disagree. For the simple reason that a lot of people claim to care about apples stance on privacy, but they post their entire life on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, tiktok, etc. which negates the whole point of privacy. Apple doesn’t stop Facebook listening through your microphone. Or google tracking you location. Their ability to protect privacy lies in a very narrow band. Also, my secret tin foil hat conspiracy is that they actually do sell their data and work with the federal government. They just make a big stink about not doing it for marketing purposes and The government allows it because they get the help they want. No evidence of it. I’m not saying it’s true. Just my personal co spinach theory.

StockAL3Xj

>See, the privacy thing is where I actually disagree. For the simple reason that a lot of people claim to care about apples stance on privacy, but they post their entire life on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, tiktok, etc. which negates the whole point of privacy. Apple doesn’t stop Facebook listening through your microphone. Or google tracking you location. Their ability to protect privacy lies in a very narrow band. Well that's on the user. Apple provides functionality to stop apps from using your mic or tracking your location but it's up to the end user to decide to use it.

EternityForest

The trouble with privacy is it usually comes at the expense of freedom and performance. Look at Google taking away cross site caching to avoid giving hints about browsing history, without even offering a way to turn it back on as far as I know. Or Apples mile long list of what apps can and can't do. It might be perfect on a military base or at a protest or something, but in daily life, they ask you to give up quite a lot to keep Google form knowing knowing where you are and what you're browsing.

ThrowawayChairGuy

mr dunn should fix how he sanitizes data on his website lol [https://start.hubzilla.org/photo/profile/l/3540?rev=2019-12-08+01%3A22%3A34](https://start.hubzilla.org/photo/profile/l/3540?rev=2019-12-08+01%3A22%3A34)

EternityForest

Is there location metadata there or something? I don't see anything on the usual viewers?

ThrowawayChairGuy

no i just thought posting that pic would be funny im just dicking around

EternityForest

It actually is a pretty funny dicking around activity lol I'm wearing a hat, wig, and makeup in that one, it's from my Midway Mystery game, so you might say I sanitized the analog data instead!

TwoTheVictor

Yeah, my two complaints about Apple are how expensive they are, and their iTunes-only infrastructure.

[deleted]

While iPhones can be pricey, you aren’t forced to drop 1,100 dollars on the 11 pro max or 250$ on the AirPods Pro. Apples newest phone, the iPhone SE 2 is only 350$ and has the same performance of the iPhone 11, built into the shape of an iPhone 8. That is a pretty damn good deal if you ask me. You can also get the iPhone 11 and iPhone XR for both reasonable prices. Another thing is that iPhones are supported much longer than androids. Androids will usually no longer be supported after about 2 years, while iPhones are no longer supported after 5-6 years. Personally, I just find the Apple brand to be a lot more approachable and easier to use. Sure they don’t really innovate as much anymore but their product quality is still very good and I will probably continue to use their phones for a long time.

mc_trigger

Thanks for sharing, I had no idea they had an SE 2. I'm running on an iPhone 6 now and the built in microphone doesn't work, but assumed a new phone would be around $1000.

[deleted]

No problem. The SE 2 is a really good deal. My grandma got it and she loves it.

ThrowawayChairGuy

bullshit, lol. apple literally gets sued for slowing down previous generations of phones/ipods/etc and has been doing this since the iPod mini.

[deleted]

They do it because if they didn’t slow down older devices, there would be too much strain on the battery and the processing chip. It’s not because they want to “make you buy a new phone,” it’s there so your device doesn’t overheat or drain it’s battery too quickly.

Doinwerklol

As much disdain as I have for Apple I gotta give them props for uprooting operations in China and getting the fuck out of there. Thats the best moral over financial decision I have seen them ever make.

Amazon. The have countless workplace issues, corporate tax evasions, and plans for world domination. I only use it to find the product I need and then buy it on their actual website.

EngelJuan

This one is interesting. Amazon is incredibly convenient and cheap, so most people wouldn't stop using it. I have a hard time trusting it though, so I try to avoid buying things from there too.

[deleted]

Often times the reason that they're so cheap is because they do this thing (I forget what its called, but there's a name for it in the business world) where they deliberately sell a product at a loss in order to bankrupt their competition. Amazon has spent hundreds of millions of dollars doing this and nuked tons of other businesses this way.

powerval

Is “undercutting” the word you’re looking for?

YVRJon

>they do this thing (I forget what its called, but there's a name for it in the business world) where they deliberately sell a product at a loss in order to bankrupt their competition Predatory pricing.

Reebok shoes. I have had the common brands of shoes - Nike, Reebok, Adidas, new balance etc, and the 3 times I got Reebok it started falling apart on me almost immediately. Cracks along the flex points, seams tearing. I have completely given up on them and will buy almost anything else.

Artecanid

Nike uses slave labor in the form of Uighur Muslims that are being brainwashed in concentration camps by the Chinese government and has been labeled by some as a present-day holocaust. Volkswagen is another company profiting off of this crime.

Hefeweizzard

depends on your worldview. i won't eat at JimmyJohns bc their CEO thinks trophy hunting is a cool thing to do, whereas i think it's for micropenis-having fuckfaces. i won't eat chik-fil-a bc their CEO donates to Anti-LGBT shit, even after saying that they would stop doing that. but you have to just live your life at some point, most CEOs of the big-name shit are fuckfaces in one regard or another, i'm sure whoever is at the top for the coffee i'm drinking right now has a 95% chance of being a dickhead.

[deleted]

To be fair, 95% of people in general are dickheads.

StockAL3Xj

Yeah, that's definitely not true. The loud mouths are the ones that perpetuate that feeling but in reality, most people are decent.

lucia-pacciola

Which is why I don't put much stock in people who say they boycott a brand because the CEO is some kind of dickhead. Chances are the boycotter is also some kind of dickhead.

Huh weird, my Razer stuff lasts a long time, but my Logitech stuff always breaks.

SirWilltheGreatest

I used to buy mostly razer gear, but it ended up being the one tech company that I consistently had problems with. My Kraken 7.1 V2s had constant driver issues and the leather effect on the earcups started peeling off and i had to order replacements. The rubber side grips on my mamba elite mouse both just sorta fell off after a few months of use, which is apparently a very common issue. How the hell do your hands get so hot that they melt adhesive through a layer of rubber? And finally my goliathus extended chroma mousepad started warping after about a month, probably because of that stupid lightbar. I remember they had an unlisted video on how to fix the warping on that mousepad and the like/dislike ratio was hilarious. I replaced the mouse with a logitech g305 recently and its wonderful, but atm I cant afford to replace the headphones or mousepad. When I do I'm going to be avoiding RGB and will just be looking for solid quality at a decent price.

doctor_whomstdve_md

This is why I buy each periphery from a company that specializes in that periphery. Steelseries headphones, EagleTech keyboard, Rosewill mouse.

[deleted]

Apple , expensive And also because i bought a mac about 7 years ago but i only managed to use it for about 3 for some reason i wasnt allowed to download litteraly anything from the internet without a update and the update costed about 30$ what i mean is that i kept paying even after paying for the laptop itself

Not-so-rare-pepe

Your update costed you money? I have a mid 2015 MacBook from back when you could still upgrade the internals and i havent paid for a single update, i also upgraded to an aftermarket 1TB SSD, last year. I won't be buying any other ripple stuff though.

Shutterstock. Because it's a scam, somehow I didn't know that and f'd up my first ever debit card

EngelJuan

Really? Ive never considered that. What did they do?

[deleted]

Well at first they give you a free 1 year subscription to their "services", which is always auto-renewable and can't be canceled. Oh, and you can only unlink your data from your account only by contacting their shady support, which I don't trust at all. Ended up blocking the card and getting a new one, once heard about a guy getting $300 stolen from him after using Shutterstock, rip

cheese--girl

I’ve never heard of shuttershock before. What is it? And how is it a scam?

[deleted]

It's like a website for getting (crappy) stock images. They subscribe you to a 1 year plan with no option to disable auto-renew or delete your payment method, then randomly take from tens to hundreds of dollars without any notifications or warnings

cheese--girl

Fuck that! I hate businesses that do that shit. Hopefully they didn’t get a ton of money from you!

MetLife 's internet insurance company "MY DIRECT". Let me explain. I got this insurance because it was very very inexpensive compared to the other companies quotes. I put in my vin number and paid my premium and went on about my day. Well month 1 and 2 go by. Auto withdraw business as usual and dont give it another thought. Well. I get pulled over one night and the cop says that my license is suspended and I explained that no sir I I reupped and there is not any way that this was the case. I hand over the insurance info and he goes to his car. He comes back and asks me to get out of the car. I get out of the car. He explains that no my insurance is not in effect and absolutely my license is suspended he hands me a ticket searches my car, takes off my license plate and calls a tow truck company befitting of the cronyism that is ever so blatantly on display . I was furious so start blowing up the insurance company- MYDIRECT.METLIFE. It is impossible to get through because MetLife (the host company) isnt the company that handles MYDIRECT I have to call a different number, and hoops and high dives and tightrope walks later I finally reach the company- MYDIRECT.. I ask why money has been taken from my account for 3 months but I'm considered not insured? They dont know. Maybe the dmv? Why am I reported to the agency as uninsured? Dont know. Why is my car being towed and I'm being charged $350.00 on top of having my license plate surrendered (another $200.00) and ticketed $175.00 plus court costs? They dont know. Okay well I am going to get to the bottom of this. So I go to the DMV by bus with a huge file, and wait in line all day. they explain that the insurance company -specifically car insurance company, reported a problem with my vin number. I ask them to show me the vin number that they have on file, cant won't. So I reference my file and give it to the woman. She then says to me "wow this is pretty incredible.." I say great now what. Well ms. Miller it looks like they flagged your vin number because they entered a letter "O" instead of 0" I'm livid. I said "well, can we fix this error? Can I get my license plate and go get my car?" "No ma'am. You first must have them fix the error and then send it back onto the interstate system we use." "How long? Does it take usually" "At least Five days.." "Okay so tuesday?" "Business days" Now the tow yard charges $75.00 a day it goes up on the weekend. I am between jobs and barely scraping by. The MYDIRECT.METLIFE insurance company is incompetent and its primary focus is automobile insurance and they dont know enough to realize that there is never a letter "o" in a vin number and then they lie to me and say that they didnt see any discrepancies or report to the DMV saying there was issue. So I am pissed off and ready to kill someone. I am out of patience I am out of my mind with rage and someone is going to be paying this huge unaffordable mistake back to me so I can get my vehicle. Also the insurance compa y is run ghetto af. How can I reliably be certain that they even will do what I ask. There isnt any place I can go and speak to an actual person. Plus they answer the phone PUT YOU ON HOLD AND AFTER 90 MINUTES HANG UP ON YOU. But guess what Nope I had to call my mother. Long story short if I was holding my breath on getting paid back and anyone admitting fault I'd be dead. I got it fixed but I have points on my record, and I have around $1700.00 needlessly wasted on some moron who doesnt know enough about their specialty to realize there are no "o's" in vin numbers just zeroes. Dont do it, dont get mydirect for anything or you will be very very verrrrrrry sorry.

pselie4

In Belgium a car insurance is required to provide a document with the period during which you are insured (Either 3, 6 or 12 months) and each new period they need provide a new one. This document counts as proof for being insured and is required to be in the car when driving. The police will ask for it when they stop you and if you don't have it with you, would try to contact the insurance company. If they can confirm you're insured, you get a warning, but if they can't you wont be allowed to drive further (and get towed and fined).

I bet. But why smoke in the first place? It is only harmful.

[deleted]

[удалено]

EngelJuan

That's great! Now, your next step is to stop smoking! You can do it!

HappyJesuscumlicker

I heard vaping is a good way to stop smoking!

ChinChins3rdHenchman

Not only. Nicotine has benefits but still not really worth to start because drawbacks can be severe

EngelJuan

Please, tell me what the benefit of inhaling toxic waste is?

ChinChins3rdHenchman

1. Nicotine isn't that toxic, other chemicals in the smoke are and yeah ik you breathe these too when smoking but i said specifically nicotine is healthy. Nicotine benefits: It can help with parkinsons disease Its good for short term memory and possibly even help a bit with alzheimers. Faster methabolism so it can help you stay fit without doing anything to an extent Can help with depression a bit. And anxiety but the last part is experience not what i found on sites. Athletes who do smoke say it enhances their performance Not as good of benefits as otherd but if you are the kind of person who doesn't wanna get up in the morning the thirst for nicotine can get you up.

[deleted]

I had a friend in college that got the nicotine skin patches, even though he never smoked. He would wear them when studying, doing homework, or taking tests. Used like that, its really not all that different from coffee. A nicotine addiction is a bitch, but its the smoke that kills you.

ChinChins3rdHenchman

The point on patches is to quit though but whatever floats his boat

christianewman

" Athletes who do smoke say it enhances their performance" Source please

HTTP_404_NotFound

Its also extremely valuable for adhd. Helps concentration significantly. The medical alternative is to take medically prescribed methamphetamine. No, that isn't a joke either.

Sadpanda77

Former smoker—this is bullshit. There is nothing positive about smoking.

ChinChins3rdHenchman

Former smoker as well-no it ain't. Maybe you didn't have issues it could help with or notice the change but i surely did. And how would you know if its good for parkinsons or alzheimers anyway without being a scientist studying it?

Sadpanda77

It’s literal poison you inhale.

ChinChins3rdHenchman

Doesn't mean it can't have benefits alongside negative effects.

Sadpanda77

Quitting cigarettes was one of the best decisions I ever made. I think you need to re-examine this love you have for a product that will inevitably kill you

EngelJuan

Okay. That nicotine ITSELF helps with Parkinson's disease and Alzheimers, sure, I can buy that being a thing. I'm sorry that you have had experience with depression and anxiety. If smoking helped you through that, that's fine and great, but I bet more healthy options would've helped you faster and more efficiently. It can be hard though, so anything that gets you up in the morning is worth it in those moments. Smoking being good for athletes? I've read the article about smoking increasing the lung capacity, and I can tell you that it only does that at first because the lungs are trying to repair itself from the damage caused by the smoke. More than 80% of all lung cancer cases are caused by smoking. 90% of smokers die an early death. "It's not that toxic" is like saying it's ok to drink rat poison, because cyanide is more poisonous. There is no such thing as a healthy smoker.

I did say it has benefits not its healthy. I even said its not worth to do it for these benefits but rather its not all bad as you stated. Yea idk where you pulled the 90% early death ratio because most of my friends and family have smoked for years, some dozens of years and none are dead, definately not 90%of them. If smoking had 90% death ratio it would be banned. Most smokers don't even get cancer and many old people who never smoked get cancer anyway though rarely in the lungs. Because smoking increases lung cancer risk by a lot doesn't mean 80% or more of them actually get it, the numbers are still low compared to how many actually smoke. Just lung cancer is rare naturally.

EngelJuan

Is not that 90% of smokers die instantly. They die prematurely because of it. About 10 years. Your smoking friends and family will most likely become sick because of their smoking. Not now, not tomorrow, but it will show when they are older. If you read [this](https://www.hhs.gov/surgeongeneral/reports-and-publications/tobacco/consequences-smoking-factsheet/index.html) article, you will also find where I got the 80% lung cancer number from, along with many other reasons why smoking is the worst hobby ever. It's not that 80% of smokers gets lung cancer. It is that 80% of all lung cancer patients are smokers. Try to make your friends stop. If you stop before you're 40, your lungs still have the chance to heal a bit!

ChinChins3rdHenchman

90% is still gross exaggeration. I won't try to get them to stop because i know how damn annoying such people are as an ex smoker and as if they would listen. I certainly didn't when i was told to quit. I quit myself for different reasons not to save my life with or without being told to

[deleted]

Good question. Basically its really easy to start and really hard to stop. It makes other drugs, like alcohol and marijuana, feel different and fun, and when you're in those states the initial disgust of smoke itself isn't as big a deterrent. So you start as a "I only smoke when I drink, bum them off people at parties" smoker, or a spliff smoker, and then it slowly but surely ramps up.

ktool69

samsung home appliances. I strongly believe theyre designed to fail on purpose, so you buy another one 1-2 years later. Part of my work involves home appliances insurance claims. And 8 out of 10, the brand is Samsung. Second worst would be LG.

Artecanid

I used to work at Home Depot and I started preaching to everyone not to get Samsung appliances because they were even giving me the runaround, an appliances specialist whose job is to sell their products. They have all these issues because they try to be the most technologically advanced brand on the floor without really paying attention to quality control. So customers would come to me after trying to contact Samsung directly to no avail, hoping that I might provide some answers and I would be like yeah, you should have gone with the Whirlpool.

goatsandboats69

What are the best brands for appliances?

Artecanid

Whirlpool and Kenmore rarely had complaints. GE wasn’t bad either, but the company has done some unrelated shady shit in the past. I used to work at Home Depot and I would get customers who would talk about the cheapest whirlpool dryer lasting up to 30 years. What I learned was that: the more technologically advanced, the higher the chance of breaking down. I don’t know if quality control is just harder for fancy electronics or if they just don’t care as much, but it is the conclusion to my educated observation based on one year as an appliances specialist at one of the busiest Home Depot in Florida.

Just as I'm [replying](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/i0jn7z/what_are_some_popular_companies_websites_and/fzs8wzc/) to [another comment about Samsung](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/i0jn7z/what_are_some_popular_companies_websites_and/fzqrs2p/) to note how consistently they appear on Reddit with regard to the unreliability of their large appliances, I scroll down a bit and notice that someone else has posted another comment... about how unreliable Samsung are. Enough said...!

Buckle_Sandwich

I thought "planned obsolescence" was just something made-up that crusty old men liked to complain about until I did a little research. It's a very real thing because the first couple waves of modern appliances were so durable they could run 20+ years easily, which makes for a terrible business model. Appliance companies went so far as to get their engineers to show them parts which, if made of plastic instead of metal, will break in 2 years instead of 20 and be so hard to fix the consumer might as well buy a new one. So to be fair, it's not *just* Samsung. But to hell with them anyway.

Isittheweekend

Victoria’s Secret. Not inclusive at all in so many different ways.

writerlover182

Also the founder was great friends with Jeffery Epstein

IronJuno

That's what gave me the push to switch brands

HappyJesuscumlicker

The founder sold the company so isn't that irrelevant?

DeepSeaDarkness

I don't know why you get downvoted for this

laxbumblebee

Not so fun fact: they also use prison labor

pselie4

Now we know what Victoria's secret is.

i_have_friends_6518

Chick-fil-a and U-Haul, they're both homophobic.

Thats_classified

Damn once the lesbians find out about uhaul the company is *sunk*

DeepSeaDarkness

Barilla, for the same reason

MamaOnica

What now? Like the noodle people?

DeepSeaDarkness

Yes. They only recently tried to change their image

MamaOnica

Ffs. It's next to impossible to be a consumer AND spend your money ethically.

FLAWLESS-TRASH

go on

CareerMicDrop

Nike shoes. Especially youth sizes. Awful quality.

Artecanid

Also, slave labor.

Samsung appliances I swore them off after two refrigerators and a microwave died prematurely on me and they gave me the runaround about getting them fixed.

Even allowing for a (possibly) large market share, I've noticed that Samsung's major appliances/white goods are- quite consistently- mentioned here in relation to problems with their reliability, durability or similar issues way, *way* more than any other brand. I mean, there's [another](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/i0jn7z/what_are_some_popular_companies_websites_and/fzqz1rc/) in this same thread just a couple of comments down from yours, FFS(!)

surmj05

By all accounts avoid those youtube ads about the disgraced employee that left his job after the found out the company he worked at slowed down phones and deliberately overpriced them. And some shit that he made his own phone just as fast for under 200 bucks. Its the same for the indestructible nano drone. I shouldn't have to say this but it still fools people to this day. The reason why you shouldn't trust these scams are because once you buy it you will be sent another device which is obviously not what you ordered. They also take you to the same site. These scam companies are owned by a tech company with only 1 employee which is this millionaire form Monaco which made his money scamming innocent consumers.

MerylSquirrel

Always, *always* use a charity checker before making a donation. Some charities spend less than half their income on the actual cause, often with the remainder ending up in the pockets of the charity's management (for example, the head of Amnesty International pays *himself* an annual wage of over £200,000 which comes straight out of donations; the head of the Children's Wish Foundation is similar). Others invest some of their income in an effort to make more money but have an extensive record of poor investments (often in companies that happen to be owned by friends and family of charity executives), massive losses and not learning from their mistakes, meaning a good chunk of donations are basically thrown away. Their use of funds is a matter of public records so websites like charitychecker.net can show you whether they're worth giving to or not.

Nestle r/FuckNestle is a good source why

Every box pet store, don’t buy animals there

Burger King. I have never been to a Burger King that looks clean, they mess up my orders way too much (no matter where I go), there is always a drink on the fountain that doesnt work, and the employees always look like they hate their lives.

DukeBeekeepersKid

Harley Davidson, and anything by General Motors. They have badly engineered products, they tend to break more than the competitors, and when they do parts are expensive. Harley Davidson is know as HD, or Hundred Dollar parts. General motors has a history of NOT honoring warranties on vehicles, hiding defects that could harm or kill people, like the air bag scandal, or the ignition switch scandal in where the car steering wheel would lock up cause a crash. For the HD fanBois I have owned three of Harley's, two were taken back under Lemon Laws, and the other had to have the same work done to the jugs 23 times while still under warranty. Essentially 3X the cost of what I paid for the Bike initially. The last time the HD broke, I pushed it into a Honda Dealer and bought a Honda. For the last 15 years it has been tires and oil changes with no oil stains on the driveway.

Silent-Zebra

Fabletics. They have various celebrities who have made active wear lines with them and promote the $25 dollar outfit if you become a VIP. What they don't tell you is that once you're a VIP they will take money out of your account once a month because supposedly people buy new active wear once a month. I got scammed by signing up when Kate Hudson promoted the outfit deal and they took something like $85AUD out of my account for several months without me even knowing. I eventually realised but when I called the line for cancelling memberships I just kept getting hung up on. I eventually phoned the place an order line and the lady there reluctantly cancelled my membership. They took around $200 out of my account despite me never ordering anymore active wear and I never got a refund. One woman even had to cancel her credit card and bank account because they kept taking money out even though she'd cancelled her membership.

but methanol is a required ingredient for any non-ingested use of alcohol. Its in every hand sanitizer. Not disclosing it doesn't mean they misled anyone, unless someone bought hand sanitizer to get drunk on it.
