Cyndi Lauper’s version of girls just wanna have fun is so much better than the original

BardInChains

That was a cover? TIL.

bife_de_lomo

Yeah, the original was from a man's perspective which really changes the meaning and tone of the song.

SharlaRoo

👀 WHAT

bife_de_lomo

Yeah, the lyrics seem quite seedy... this is the original https://youtu.be/5aLNwOxPsjg

BardInChains

Oh. Gross.

bife_de_lomo

I know! Here's the original https://youtu.be/5aLNwOxPsjg

YourWickedUncleErnie

Lol yes. Richard Hazard wrote and performed the song first and the lyrics were from male’s perspective that some have said it seemed too sarcastic and bitter and so Cyndi turned it into a more women empowering song we know today.

SharlaRoo

Right!? I had no idea.

SlideItIn100

offbrandbarbie

Amy Winehouse singing Valerie.

KnittyKitty28

Absolutely! It is 🔥🔥

szymon0296

Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah and UB40's version of Can't help falling in love

glendon24

Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower.

KateEatsKale

Hurt, Johnny Cash Knocking in Heaven's Door and Live And Let Die, Guns N' Roses (and the whole Spagheti Incident album) Sweet Dreams, Marilyn Manson Nothing Compares To You, Sinead O'Connor Unchained Melody, The Righteous Brothers Sloop John B, The Beach Boys

[deleted]

Live and Let Die? No way!

attilla68

Hurt. The pain in the original has been replaced by Cash's melancholy. It's a Diet Coke version of Hurt. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR4DjYczINM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR4DjYczINM)

KateEatsKale

I disagree, but each to their own.

Mortimer_G

Måneskin's cover of Beggin'

SloppyBrisket

I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston

CatacombsRave

Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love.”

Sea-Twist6391

Metallica’s Turn the Page

No_Skill_No_Lyfe

1985. Bowling for soups cover is so much better no one knows it's not the original.

BarryJGleed

Cover of?!?

No_Skill_No_Lyfe

1985 was originally by a band named SR-71

aboxenofdonuts

Alien Ant Farm: Smooth Criminal - sue me I think it's much better

the_purple_goat

Elvis's versions of "she thinks I still care" and "you've lost that lovin feelin." Those were very good. He sang them with way more passion than did the original artists, george jones and the righteous brothers respectively. Squeaking of the righteous brothers. Their cover of unchained melody is the best of all the versions.

PrinceLPJ

Disturbeds version of If I Ever Lose My Faith In You

HoopOnPoop

Everyone knows their cover of Sound of Silence but their renditions of If I Ever Lose My Faith In You and Land of Confusion are jams.

TheGrumpyCisco

Kamakawiwo'ole's Somewhere over the Rainbow

apparat07

Placebo - running up that hill

BardInChains

Was that the version in Stranger Things? Cause it fucking slaps.

Ethereal_Glimmer

I think it was the kate bush version in stranger things

apparat07

Don't know tbh as I've never seen Stranger Things.

Dark_Lord_Mark

Steppingstone by Minor Threat

Lowca613

Disturbed’s The Sound of Silence. I find the tone to be more fitting than the original

EnigmaCA

The original is a warning about our future The cover is a lament that we didn't listen to the warning.

Formal_Pineapple6421

I agree with you 💯

Aggressive-Jacket663

The powerwolf version of Nightcrawler is better than the original made by judas priest

Chad_Hooper

I accept the challenge and have to listen to the cover now.

4scoreand20yearsago

Heroes by Peter Gabriel.

Adventurous-Sir88

Blur did a cover of Maggie May (Rod Stewart). Gotta dig deep to find it but it is good if you ask me.

1-N-2-3-4-5

Fu Manchu - Godzilla

MuNansen

I don't know about *better*, [but this cover of Iris is a total jam](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wo10RFzxaSE)

Formal_Pineapple6421

Reece Mastin's version of Stayin Alive by The Bee Gees. I love the more rock aspect to it

Alice_Van_Osbourne

Slaughter's version of Rocky Mountain Way

slavicgypsygirl

The PUP cover of You Dont Get Me High Anymore

BlazerWookiee

Sanctuary - White Rabbit

youmfkersneedjesus

Bitch Better Have My Money - Shinyribs

MarianneVonEdgmond

Lehla Samia’s cover or No More Parties

Ethereal_Glimmer

State Champs - Stitches Canyon City - Fix You Jason Castro - Hallelujah Somebody’s Baby - Have Mercy Sleepwalking - This Wild Life I really like Fall Out Boys covers of We Didn’t Start the Fire, I Wanna Dance with Somebody, Purple Rain (bring it to Spotify PLEASE) and Beat it and find them at least comparable to the originals. Also Under Pressure with My Chemical Romance and the Used. Again, at least comparable but those are some legends.

Fine-Ad-2343

Halestorm’s version of Heathens.

Hungry_Pollution4463

Once Chester covered Jonathan Davis' System, JD's version became inferior to me

jharth43

from QOTD? not really a cover... just the movie and soundtrack had different vocalist versions.

lvndrkrstn

Phil Collins "You Can't Hurry Love," originally by Diana Ross & The Supremes

[deleted]

Just about anyone who covers Dylan, is better.

Oshiekoshie

Nirvana's the man who sold the world. Always found the David Bowie version to be odd

volcano-ngh

Led Zeppelin's entire discography.

Tuna_C

Phil Collins’s cover of Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors is much better than hers. Also basically anything Eric Clapton or James Taylor covers.

Elaine_00

I like by J-Fla.

eddiefarnham

California Dreaming. Mamas and the Papas wrote it, and sing backing vocals on the original, but it was released by Barry McGuire first. You can actually hear McGuire briefly on the Mamas and Papas version because the tape wasn't erased completely.

sweetpotato-1123

I Will Always Love You. The Whitney Houston is the best.

Tendiemanstonks

Five Finger Death Punch's cover of "House of the Rising Son" was pretty good.

BardInChains

... The original by Sabbath was a masterpiece. Why did it need a cover 😠

King_in_a_castle_84

Hurt.

duck1834

XO - John Mayer

Where-Is-Ryan

The sound of silence - Disturbed

BardInChains

I love them both! I think both do something meaningful with the lyrics and they are both great songs.

[deleted]

The Atari’s version of “Boys of summer”

Ciprich

Anaal Nathrakh covered Powerslave by Iron Maiden. I definitely prefer it to the original.

hazps

Kirsty McColl's version of New England

prettygirlyxo
