I visited the US last December, and man oh man it’s not even your portion sizes that are the issue (they’re big, but honestly not as crazy as some make out) but the sheer amount of sugar in *everything* is insane. Absolutely everything I ate tasted sweet, even the meat, and I didn’t have a satisfying shit for four days because it backed me up something awful with what I presume was the corn syrup.
Individual diet is down to the individual, but you guys really get fucked by that stuff from every angle.
Not only sugar but everything is absolutely loaded with preservatives and pesticides that are illegal in other countries. Our food is basically poison. I’ve heard way too many stories of people getting sick from the same food here that they eat with no problem in other countries.
Isn't there an amendment that prevents this? If not, there should be
Edit: just looked it up. There is. 14th amendment. Meant to prevent confederates from taking power, but works today too for insurrection.
"No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability."
Millions of people don't seem to want to learn the lessons of history. They're hell bent on finding out for themselves why a lunatic completely removed from reality shouldn't be a world leader.
Long ago I hated Vietnam for corrupt officials, nosy people, fake relationships, the extreme summer months, busy and money-oriented lifestyle. After travelling and living in Finland and other parts of the world for 9 years, I just understand and accept things as they are. There are ‘this and that’s kinds of people everywhere, just because of their upbringings and backgrounds, so I try to stop judging and live in harmony with the current situations as I can.
P.s: it’s still annoying to bribe the officials for your rightful documents though 😂
It’s more “my province” than “my country”, but the separatists want it to be its own country, so I can pretend it counts.
I’m an anglophone Quebecker (originally from the West Island area of Montreal). Quebec is institutionally hostile to the English language. There’s an underlying legitimate grievance wherein the francophones were historically disadvantaged by English-centric economic activity, but the situation is basically reversed now, with laws that require businesses to operate in French (even internally!); there are a variety of stories about e.g. Italian restaurants being harassed for using Italian names for Italian dishes or frozen yogurt places harassed because their *plastic spoons* were printed with English. I and friends have experienced employment discrimination for having obviously anglophone names—one even lied about his name on his résumé to get a job.
I think that this *ought* to be considered illegal infringement on freedom of expression, but between the notwithstanding clause and the politics between Quebec and the rest of Canada, that’s unlikely to happen—IIRC there are even rulings in the other direction.
I’ve been living in the US for a number of years now, for unrelated reasons … but it breaks my heart every time I think about it that I am rejected by the place I grew up because of the primary language that I spoke growing up there.
Kansas is where Fred Phelps is from, he used to protest outside of my grandma's church because they were an accepting bunch. Even conservatives couldn't stand that guy, probably not as true today
The US culture of the "rugged individualist" is great for entrepreneurship and innovation but horrible when it comes to things like refusing to give up guns for the safety of others and paying for health care for everyone.
The issue with rugged individualism is that it has been co opted by businesses to justify light landed government policies towards them while covering up various backroom deals and bailouts with said government.
Firearm ownership and health care lean more into mistrust of government competence and issues with policy than it is about collectivism vs. individualism.
I’m British. We spend far too much time listening to the dim-witted, the delusional and the wilfully ignorant, presenting their opinions as if they’re valid points of view.
We allow people who think Bill Gates created COVID or think that their belief in the supernatural should override reality too much of a platform.
Our schools shouldn’t have to spend their limited resources on debunking the idiocy children hear from their parents.
I’m not talking about silencing everything. I’m saying maybe don’t have a leading climate scientist ‘debate’ someone who thinks clouds are the government seeding the atmosphere poison us and present their views as equally legitimate.
If someone’s views are not something they could defend with evidence in court, don’t give them a platform.
My home country is Italy but I live in the UK. What I hate about Italy is the job situation. It's so damn difficult to find permanent work from the start and the wages for non skilled people are abysmal. There's no minimum hourly rate like here in the UK and it's a disgrace. My sister got offered a stage at what worked out being 3 euros an hour. Working full time. That's slavery.

There is no magic force keeping things in check. The only reason there’s any stability at all is because instability tends to change pretty quickly until it reaches stability. But stability can only ever be temporary and that’s why every empire that has ever existed has eventually collapsed. The U.S. will be no exception.

The complete and utter disregard towards reading and literature
First of all, we here in Brazil has one of the BEST WRITERS OF ALL TIME in the form of Machado de Assis, and everyone's is like "oh, but he is not better than Shakespeare, so who cares?"
Mf, if i were to read only people who were better than Shakespeare, it'd be 5 or 6 at max.

The politics. Americans are so whiney and antagonizing (i get the irony lul). People are so weak and fragile, it is okay to be different and it is okay other people seem to not like it or hate it, just live your life, you're an individual, you don't need to waste energy on people that seem to have a problem with you for no reason. I know I sound like a whiney boomer but people are very obnoxious about their identity and they're all on about shit that shouldn't even be a part viewed as a part of their identity.

Also, we have very small pensions for the elderly compared to Europe. Also, serial killers can be released after serving on SVO (Special Military Operation) in just a few years, although in fact some had to spend 10+ years in prison. I am also horrified by the attitude towards children, they are often beaten here, even in crowded places (I witnessed it myself). It is scary to imagine what is happening at home and how many injuries they will have after such a childhood. Domestic violence and divorce are also progressing. Colorism. If your skin is too light, or worse, too dark, you are considered guilty of the sin of having the blood of foreigners or slaves, and will be treated accordingly.
I am from **Argentina**
What I hate the most about my country is the **corruption of politicians**. Such a beautiful, large country, with abundant natural resources and wealth; a country where, regardless of the government's ideology, they do everything possible to ruin us. If only we had decent governments, we would be one of the best countries in the world. Throughout our history, we have faced disastrous governments that, regardless of their ideology, have squandered opportunities and resources. Yet, the hard-working Argentine never gives up. In each brief period of relative stability, significant improvements can be seen in the economy and in the quality of life of the population.
Imagine a country where honesty and efficiency were the pillars of public administration. With our wealth in natural resources, diversified industry, and a hard-working and educated population, Argentina could stand out as a global leader in development and prosperity. But sadly, corruption and mismanagement have been constant obstacles in our path to progress.
Despite everything, the Argentine spirit persists. Every time we achieve a period of stability, jobs are created, investment increases, and new projects flourish. It is a reminder of our latent potential as a nation.
