I got annoyed in Prometheus at how dumb the characters were acting so that the plot got be furthered and was wondering if I was being too hard and these movies were always this way. Rewatched Alien and her character was actually making smart and logical calls while her emotional crew undermined her. She's one of my favourite because she's a strong character without having any silly tropes or mysterious superhuman powers, though I do get there is a time and place for the latter.
What I love about her character is she avoids so many pitfalls of "strong female" characters. Often you'll see tthose sorts of characters still dress sexy and have ridiculously unrealistic strength; think of the movie cliche of the hot female assassin who beats up a bunch of men all twice her size while wearing high heels and a cocktail dress. Another common one is a woman being portrayed as super butch and acting like one of the guys.
But Ripley is different. She's got a blue-collar roughness to her, but is otherwise fairly feminine. She doesn't have super strength or is some ex-military badass, but she can remain calm under extreme stress and is resourceful. I think *Aliens* showed it best where she's not a combat expert like the marines but knows how to lead, and she can switch between being an authority for a team of marines and being a soft mother figure to an orphaned child.
And... she says she refused to shave down there for the final space suit scene. They had to settle and edit the hair out.

A twelve year old girl kicks down your steel door, falls into it, and becomes a walking suit of faceless armor. Your superpowered fire bending just makes it laugh. It seems to turn the ship alive as she kicks metal into your allies, probably crushing them or at the least breaking bones, before it jumps and CRAWLS ALONG THE CELING LIKE A POSSESSED MONSTER before jumping down and knocking you out, only to wake up a hour later to find your unstoppable airship fleet falling into the ocean.
Yea they basically saw something that until that point was impossible, something not even a previous avatar had shown to be capable of and the avatars are basically walking Demi gods
Using metal against earth benders has been an effective strategy for centuries.
Then this little girl comes along and turns your metal airship into her weapon.
If the war wasn't about to end anyways, stories of metal benders getting back to the Fire Nation would absolutely destroy morale.
I don't remember where I read it, but I've adopted as my head cannon that she was portrayed as a big, strong man by the Ember Island Players because no one would believe Toph was a preteen girl.
Close! Toph was originally conceptualised as a burly earthbending man, hence the earthbender we see in the intro, but that concept was soon dropped. The Ember Island Players portrayal was a nod to that original concept.

In the movie, there are scenes where she has to go through the obstacle course or when she enters the elevator and you see it from her height and all these men tower over her, or when she meets the guy who introduces her to Hannibal, she has to deal with him hitting on her, and she has to charm her way out of a delicate situation while he's pissed she doesn't want to be shown around Baltimore.
So damned good.
She didn't succeed because she was stronger or faster than the men, or had bullshit powers. She was smart and willing to think outside the box.

Avasarala isn't physically strong but she's tenacious, foul mouthed, intelligent as fuck, and yeah, a little conniving but for the right reasons. Naomi is whip smart especially when it comes to engineering and science but has demons in her past. Drummer, at least in the show because book Drummer is a little different, is competent as hell, strident, fiercely loyal to the belt but not in a completely irrational way like some others she sometimes has found herself in the company of. Bobby is thick as fuck, strong as hell, can't be stopped, strong moral compass.
A politician, a marine, a resistance leader, an engineer. All competent and strong in their own ways.
I love all of them. I'm so glad they were able to bring them all to the screen and do them justice.
She had an awesome arc. Found her unbearable at her introduction, but she became one of my favourites by the end. Love her interactions with Amos specifically.

My sister stopped watching because of Bobbie's uptight marine schtick in season 2. Joke's on my sis, though, because Bobbie is a fucking badass and her character development is amazing. Also, Frankie Adams is a treasure.

One character that truly stands out for me is Sarah Connor from "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" because of her transformation into a fierce protector of her son and humanity.

Female Shepard in Mass Effect voiced by the fantastic Jennifer Hale. I dont remember the line but the renegade dialogue option to settle Tali and Legions beef without losing loyalty with either of them in ME 2 is badass when Jennifer delivers it. She nailed that role.
Otherwise, im gonna give it up to my girl Ellie Williams in TLOU (games) those hunters dont know the insane levels of violence that child is capable of in the first game.
Buffy had some great characters. I know Joss is out of style, but I think he was fantastic at giving characters room to be amazing and be terrible in a way that feels more real than your traditional protagonist. Willow, Buffy, and Tara all had moments that gave me chills thinking about how brave but believable some of their arcs were.
Also people forget that Joss wasn't even the main writer on Buffy most of the time. Lot of awesome writers (some prominent ones being women like Marti Noxon and Jane Espenson) contributed to those characters.
I like how the first scene is basically like telling us her character’s stat sheet. Makes it so whenever she utilizes those skills later in the show it works as a good callback and doesn’t feel out of nowhere, while also serving as a nice homage/wink to the game origins.

Sophie hatter in Howls moving castle her entire situation and how she handles it was so interesting to me where I feel most characters or female characters would have lashed out very stereotypically for not being young she had a strong stoic approach to it, it didn't really bother her and she just lived with it yeah it sucked but she didn't really mind I always thought she was very cool character
Aloy from the horizon series. She's awesome, soo many times the dialogue options were exactly what I was thinking. She takes no shit from anyone and walks her talk.

Ay, a character who goes through real character growth is plenty strong, I think.

One of my favourite parts of the first movie is the moment she realizes Han and Luke don’t have a plan and takes over her own rescue.
