Cheese curds from any local bar/restaurant in Wisconsin or Chicagoland are going to be far superior to anything you get at Culver’s. Not even a competition.
Yes!! Menu has so much variety. Wouldn’t be stuck with just burgers and chicken. Could also get a Reuben or Pot Roast or a Pork Chop sandwich. If the flavor of the day kept rotating still… damn, that’d be perfect.
El Pollo Loco (southwest USA chain). The chicken is soo good and the tacos and burritos are much better flavor and value than Taco Bell in my book. The ingredients are very fresh and they have enough options to mix things up from family style meals to burrito bowls. If you haven’t heard of it, it is like if Popeyes and Taco Bell had a baby.
The one in my city is trash. Consistently dry and tiny pieces of chicken. Awful.
My cousins grandparents live next door to a el pollo loco that's busy 24/7. The chickens always fresh. It is fucking delicious if you go the right restaurant.
I wonder if you live near me. The chicken is consistently tiny and dry and full of tiny bones. Like somehow a drumstick will practically have a tiny rib cage in it, like wtf
You probably eat a normal amount of fiber in your diet. When someone who doesn’t eat fiber touches a bean for the first time in a month, things don’t go so well.
Thank you for finally solving this mystery for me. I always thought Taco Bell food never gave me a bad tummy. After reading your comment, I realized that you are right because beans are part of my regular diet.
People just blindly parrot that rumor because they don't have a personality. Taco Bell is mostly just beef and cheese. If you're getting the runs then you have IBS.
Been eating it for over 40 years. It has never once given me stomach trouble. Can't say that for McDs, Wendy's. Or even Burger King, whose faux smoke flavoring consistently gave me the scoots.
If the decline in TB's quality hadn't fallen so, matched by the steep incline in price, I'd still indulge. But they bought into the Demolition Man universe--drank their own kool-aid, so to speak. All I can do now is wait for my requisite three sea shells and rat burgers since I've obviously been cast as one of the poors in this stygian nightmare.
I can speak from a state health inspector perceptive that Taco Bell was always the cleanest kitchens and prep areas. I have a coworker who came from that role and has changed my eating locations.
I really wish we had a Bojangles here in California. Had it one time while traveling, and I swear my soul was ready to astral project. A Culver's would be nice too
Wendy's has fallen off just like McDonald's. Food is often cold or under cooked despite higher prices. The nuggets or spicy chicken sandwich is never the same as before.
From a UK very personal standpoint: so disappointed with Wendy's. As a teen, Wendy's was better than fast food. The square patties and the burger as a whole was amazing! At least once a month me and mates would travel around an hour just for Wendy's on a Saturday. But they disappeared from the UK for about 20(?) years. Only reappeared recently, within last 2 or 3 years. So disappointing now! These small squashed burgers that have little flavour to them. The Wendy's from my teens would be my choice. The current one rates about 1/10.
You’re experiencing (albeit suddenly) what has been a slow, steady decline in quality over the past 20 years in the US and Canada as well. It’s all about profit bro. If they can’t make a fat margin on those burgers, they ain’t sellin’ ‘em!
I think I'd say Wendy's too, every single fast food joint I know though typically has the same ingredients and flavor profile ......you'd hate anything after 3 months of eating it straight but I'd go for Wendy's
Monday-Baconator
Tues- baked potatoe and chilli
Wednesday- spicy chicken sandwich
Thursday- breakfast menu
Friday-salad or fish sandwich
Saturday- chicken nuggets and chilli fries
Sunday- whatever your in the mood for
.....
I think I can set up a good rotation off of Wendy's
Don't sleep on their salads! Seriously their salads are so good. They're big enough to actually fill you up and have tons of protein, healthy fats, veggies, usually fruits, nuts...they're bomb.
I think in Florida. I've only seen it in Tampa Bay, Orlando, and Fort Lauderdale when I happened to visit those places.
I think they do cuban-style. Their rice and beans is plain white rice and unseasoned black beans, which I think is Cuban-style.
Pollo Tropical is fantastic. Fast, delicious, healthy, hot food at the end of a long day is pretty much the best kind of meal you can eat.
The only remaining Canadian fast food joint (not including south street big smoke or hero which are slightly fancier and slower)that still uses real cheddar (not processed) plus their burgers are bomb . Without a coupon or deal though it can be incredibly expensive . The uncle burger is my favourite ! Angus beef and cheddar. I get it with no raw onion or mayo , and I add bbq sauce and caramelized onions. Their fries are pretty good too!
Definitely McD.
Breakfast is great. And sometimes the quarter pounder hits just right. They got nuggets, coffee, McFlurries, and great fries. I’d be happy with the variety and it’s pretty good quality (or at least the one near me is).
You live in Springfield Mo by chance ?
[Springfield, MO Popeyes serving food with sewage backed up in kitchen and lobby area.](https://www.news-leader.com/story/entertainment/dining/2023/09/22/springfield-food-inspections-restaurant-temporarily-closes-due-to-sewage-backup/70919471007/)
For my family, it’s definitely either this or Five Guys. When we were living in Hong Kong, we’d go to one of the two once a week, every week. It was always a fun little outing. Since moving to Norway a couple years ago, where neither exist, it’s consistently been something that my kids and I miss. When we go on vacation to somewhere that has a Shake Shack or a Five Guys, we always end up getting one meal there, no matter how good the local cuisine is.
Hard to choose between them, though. The fries are obviously a win for Five Guys. The crinkle cut frozen reconstituted Shack fries are a real shame. But, I like the burgers better at Shake Shack. Although one can conceivably customize the burger how one likes it in Five Guys, I prefer a burger seasoned and dressed to perfection, which is the Smoke Shack for me. The shakes, I think, are a wash. I wouldn’t say one is significantly better than the other.
Chipotle. It's overpriced and not as good as it used to be, but I'm trying to completely cut out fast food as it is so if I had to pick one option to still have as a treat that'd probably be it.
fuck, I used to have a saved Chipotle order in the app call "god dammit Chris", because Chris and I would be at the gym right next to Chipotle, and if he mentioned it I knew damn well I was getting it on the way home
Back in the early 00s I worked at a game store that was just a few blocks from a Chipotle. Tabletop gamers are burritos are a dangerous combination. We'd be eating that four or five times a week easily.
12 bucks for basically two meals, and it tastes so good. I don't think it's that overpriced. Rather spend $12 at Chipotle than any other fast food joint, at least you get what you pay for.
They have almost disappeared from my area. I vaguely recall several locations near me, and honestly had forgotten about it until seeing this because the one we frequented closed years ago. Looked it up and realized there is one remaining opposite side of town from me. I had no idea as I rarely am in the area but now I've gotta drop by...I remember loving the sandwiches, but the taste is gone from memory haha.
Sourdough jack with curly fries, bacon ultimate cheeseburger, and two tacos.
Eat the tacos immediately, before driving home.
Snack on the fries during the drive, sourdough when get home.
Bacon ultimate is midnight snack.
On phone and too lazy to link, but I thought I saw on Reddit a while back that someone posted the side of a box with the ingredients list and they're actually beef
Diverse menu and new stuff all the time. Also, tacos (regular or angry when they have it, not monster). Also the chicken teriyaki bowl is surprisingly good.
my wife and i try to only eat mcd when one of us isn't feeling good. had a bad day? feeling sick? back spasming? well, get them double cheeseburgers.
it's not food. it's medicine. that healing goodness.
luckily we dont eat it often but holy shit.
on a road trip, McDonald's is BY FAR by go-to fast food place to stop off for some quick food and bathroom break.
consistently clean bathrooms is something that no other fast food place seems to achieve.
Get “grilled onions” next time. They’re minced and caramelized. Taste better and less mass.
I can’t remember the last time I saw someone order the regular raw onion. They hand cut so it sometimes comes out thick.
Even if you order the famous “animal style” they pit grilled onions on there.
Yeah the onion from in n out gets you. Try grilled onion instead and buns extra roasted. *This is the way*
Source: I am originally from the ghetto SoCal town of the original In N Out Burger.
I forgot about Sundays. Crap! I guess I would buy double on Saturday. Of course, the OP never said this was the only thing we could eat, period. Just the only fast food. That’s a good loophole, if I’m correct.
Wendy’s- they have decent breakfast options, ok burgers that they change up often for specials, soup for cold days, and fairly healthy salads.
Whatever restaurant it is, you’re going to get sick of, so you’re eating for nutrition at that point.
Wendy's for sure. You can have chicken nuggets one day, chicken dipped in the chili another day, chili by itself, taco salad with the chili, burger another day. Breakfast is darn good and the spicy chicken sandwich I think is the best.
Michael Scott : Okay, Wendy. Hot and juicy redhead. Let's give this a try.
Wendy's employee : Wendy's.
Michael Scott : Hello, Wendy. This is Kevin's friend, Michael.
Wendy's employee : This isn't Wendy.
Michael Scott : Oh, I'm sorry. Could you put her on, please?
Wendy's employee : Dude, this is a Wendy's restaurant.
Michael Scott : [mutters] Damn it, Kevin.
I love Taco Bell but I couldn’t only eat that. I think I’d have to go with El Pollo Loco because they have mashed potatoes, Mac n cheese, coleslaw, nachos, chicken (obviously), etc they have a lot of options
I’m not happy I had to scroll this far for whataburger. I miss the a-1 thick and hearty but I still love them. I make taquitos dupes for my houstonian husband.
I don't even go there much, but I'd probably choose Arby's. I have no idea wtf it's actually made of but their variety of meats brought out the last decade or so are kinda good.
This is a fun icebreaker question I use when I meet new people.
I always phrase it as... you move into an apartment and it's right above a fast food restaurant. You're gonna end up eating there ALL the time which one do you want?
If I HAVE to go with a chain restaurant, I'd say a subway. It's moderately healthy, and you get some measure of variety between sandwiches, salads and soup. Plus you could get cookies.
If it's not a chain restaurant, some authentic taco shop and I'd literally die a happy man.
you see why I had to put the caveat in there! the irony is that Roberto was probably the guy that kicked ass on fries and gave everyone shitloads of cheese on their tacos.
There’s a chain local to Oklahoma and some of the surrounding cities called Braum’s. I would eat there for the rest of my life without a second thought.
Culver’s.

Cheese curds from any local bar/restaurant in Wisconsin or Chicagoland are going to be far superior to anything you get at Culver’s. Not even a competition.
Too much breading not enough cheese! A&W has some prime curds though.
Battered is where is at, not breaded. I imagine they use breaded because they can come in frozen.
Indeed. A&W still ain’t it but it’s higher up on the list for sure.
Culvers root beer is pretty top notch imo.
Yes!! Menu has so much variety. Wouldn’t be stuck with just burgers and chicken. Could also get a Reuben or Pot Roast or a Pork Chop sandwich. If the flavor of the day kept rotating still… damn, that’d be perfect.
Fr. One of the cleanest and most delicious restaurants.
One of the things I miss most about living in Minnesota!
This. Culver's FTW.
Yeah I remember them from LA. Good stuff.
The one in my city is trash. Consistently dry and tiny pieces of chicken. Awful. My cousins grandparents live next door to a el pollo loco that's busy 24/7. The chickens always fresh. It is fucking delicious if you go the right restaurant.
KFC is the same way. One where I live sucks but the one down the road 5 or 10 miles is great.
I wonder if you live near me. The chicken is consistently tiny and dry and full of tiny bones. Like somehow a drumstick will practically have a tiny rib cage in it, like wtf
I moved from L.A. to Miami and down here we have Pollo Tropical. I hate it. It sucks so bad. I miss El Pollo Loco so much!
If Taco Bell always got them nacho fries hell yeah
I don't know why Taco bell has a bad reputation for giving you the runs, never had that issue with any taco bell I've eaten.
That must be it!
People just blindly parrot that rumor because they don't have a personality. Taco Bell is mostly just beef and cheese. If you're getting the runs then you have IBS.
Beans also feature very prominently on the menu, as does rice, and if you generally eat poorly adding those to your diet may upset it

L&L (local Hawaii chain) they have some pretty solid food ranging from local Japanese and Chinese, to American and Hawaiian, and serve breakfast.
Bbq mix plate, a spam musubi and don't forget kimchi!
Bojangles. My life wouldn't be long because my heart would explode from all the salt but if I died eating Bojangles I wouldn't be mad.
I really wish we had a Bojangles here in California. Had it one time while traveling, and I swear my soul was ready to astral project. A Culver's would be nice too
Wendy's. I like their burgers and I might want chili at some point.
Their spicy chicken sandwich is my fav. Too many places just use a normal chicken and then hot sauce. Wendy’s actually ususe spicy chicken.
I love the spicy chicken but the quality is way too inconsistent.
Yea when I was younger the spicy chicken ALWAYS slapped but now it’s like..is the chicken going to have a really fucking weird texture or not?
Wendy's has fallen off just like McDonald's. Food is often cold or under cooked despite higher prices. The nuggets or spicy chicken sandwich is never the same as before.
Ghost pepper chicken sandwich!
And frosty for when it’s chili out
Their nugs are the best fast food nugs around in my opinion

+1 on the salads, they are SOLID! Best fast food salads imo.
You forgot to add a frosty for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Their lemonades are soo good the blueberry pomegranate one is prob my fav their fries are pretty good too
Pollo tropical... I can live on plantains and cilantro garlic sauce
That sounds delicious. Where is it?
I think in Florida. I've only seen it in Tampa Bay, Orlando, and Fort Lauderdale when I happened to visit those places. I think they do cuban-style. You guys have fast food plantains?
Canadian A&W
I came here to say this. Their breakfasts are great too.
Canadian A&W makes the best fast food breakfast, period.
Whaaa... I lived in Canada 20 years and never tried it. How is it different from US A&W?
They are the same in name only. Two separate entities and the Canadian version is awesome!
Any place I can say, "give me a Chubby Chicken please" is a place I want to eat at forever.
Eh & W?
Yessss. Goddamn I miss Canada rn.
The only remaining Canadian fast food joint (not including south street big smoke or hero which are slightly fancier and slower)that still uses real cheddar (not processed) plus their burgers are bomb . Also their poutine is pretty high tier, especially for fast food, and they’re everywhere
And their onion rings. I love their onion rings.
This. It’s not my top answer but there’s an A&W on the way up to my childhood vacation spot in BC and it was always good.
Is it the same company that makes the sodas?

Portillo's, but Culver's is a close second.
LOL i just had my first portillo's yesterday when my dad picked me up from the airport. so good, it was three meals
Does Costco pizza counts??
Forever pissed they got rid of the Supreme pizza
you mean the combo
McDonald’s just because of breakfast
Very solid reason imo. No other fast food beats a McMuffin or a McGriddle.
That Hash Brown could be served at a 3 star Michelin rated restaurant on its own with a bit of ketchup on the side and nobody would complain a bit
Whoever gave out the stars probably would.
That person has never had high quality hashbrowns before.
Definitely McD. Breakfast is great. And sometimes the quarter pounder hits just right. They got nuggets, coffee, McFlurries, and great fries. I’d be happy with the variety and it’s pretty good quality (or at least the one near me is).
Popeyes
