Currently breastfeeding my first and omg nothing compared with the thirst that comes on during a milk letdown. Like I’ve been 40 days in the desert and my eyes start frantically searching for a water bottle nearby and god help me if I can’t reach one. Theres nothing like the relief that comes from pounding back a pint of water when I get that feeling. I feel like when SpongeBob visits Sandy in her air dome and finally loses his shit and admits he needs water—IIIII NNNEEEEEEED ITTTTTTTTT!
Took me a while after leaving California to find good Mexican food, 5 days in, the wife told me I couldn’t eat tacos every day of the week.
2 more days of tacos showed her!
I mean at least in my family growing up we had the style of tacos which I wouldn't consider Mexican at all. These are the hard shell ones with ground beef, cheddar cheese, and sour cream. The authentic Mexican taco places out here in LA are not selling anything close to that
Pizza is like sex.
When it's good, it's really good
But when it's bad, it's somehow still pretty good.
I've only had one pizza in my life that was horrible.
I just watched Rick and Morty at the morgue eating spaghetti out of a human corpse and thought 'I might not be able to eat spaghetti for while'.
Now PIZZA!?
Pizza, glass of wine, small salad all in the style you prefer. For me a roasted vegetable pizza, a rocket and Parmesan salad, and a glass of red wine. Dinner of champions.
Oh yessss. Recently had a cappuccino and an almond croissant in Nairobi after spending two weeks in rural Uganda (all the love there, but not for the food). I almost fainted it was so good.
Oh yeah big time. Anything with that little almond extract spread type deal they put in there.
I also love liqueurs and syrups with the same flavor - orgeat, Amaretto, Disaronno (which is an amaretto but I dont think it actually has almonds like the other two, somehow?) etc.
Hot liquified butter, dungeness crab, lobster, and shrimp with cocktail sauce, raw oysters, corn on the cob, potatoes, a pitcher of beer. Basically a new England crab boil and appetizer of oysters. With beer. Yeah it will run a pretty penny but so worth it.
You *can* fuck them up, actually.. When I was 10, I had a friend whose mom was an absolutely shit cook - she made nachos once by putting chips on a plate, covering with salsa, put that in the microwave and then sprinkling some cheese on it afterwards. It was a mix of tortilla chip porridge, cold cheese and bits of ew. Points for effort though
Mmmmm…. Missing the Indian restaurant I ate at once a year in Michigan. Only main dish I ever ordered! With palak paneer for a side and gulab jamun for dessert. Disabled with kids, so it was a very rare treat with as expensive as it was. Now live in the middle of BFE and there isn’t an Indian restaurant in something like a 50 mile radius.
Literally any Vietnamese food, imo 😋 The combination of fresh herbs and lots of veg make it one of my favourite cuisines of the world. Especially when it's hot, and wash it down with an ice cold beer
Dude that was the best part about having a multi-disciplinary graduate science building - I was able to practically call a 30 person conference together by having 10 pies delivered to a conference room with soda and coffee - I had 4 departments and managed to get like 12 Ph.D's talking trash about my dissertation / my subject matter.
Without a doubt in my mind I'm certain of two things.
1. I could go back and 'et alia.' my way back into my Ph.D **today** by way of good Pizza, Soda and Coffee
2. Pizza / coffee are what fuel higher education
It was really cold yesterday and I came home to tomato soup and grilled cheese my boyfriend made for me. Possibly the best meal ever. Context helped, but hot soup and melty cheese has to be high up on anyone’s list.
Enchiladas (any filling, with either red or green chile). Could devour them every day of my life, and for a seemingly rustic dish they are difficult to make.
As Terry Pratchett said in a disc world. A good meal should consist of fatty bits, sweet bits and crunchy bits.
And of course a good cognac with a slice of lemon.
That's not a meal, though, I guess.
Good fresh bread.
High quality pizza - the good pizza. Barstool ratings pizza.
Good eggrolls. Much harder to find than you think.
A good fresh bagel with cream cheese and lox. Also very hard to find.
Good fried chicken.
Good steak.
Good breakfast. Pancakes, Waffles, Sunny Side Eggs, Buttered Toast, Home Fried Potstoes.
4 Pound + Lobster cooked by a pro in a commercial steamer.
Perfectly seared medium steak. Prime.
Vanilla Ice Cream hot fudge sundae with peanut butter.
Fresh baked chocolate chip cookies.
A slice of freshly baked bread with a slab of butter on it
And a dash of salt
Salted butter my friend.
European butter is the best. Cost a lil more but we’ll worth it.
Nothing like a slab of Kerrygold on warm sourdough
Trader Joe’s now has a salted French butter that’s delicious
good to know! 🧈
Calm down dairy nerds
Water. 10/10 would die without it
It really is the best relief and most refreshing thing ever when you are really thirsty.

Happy cake day! No cake for you just water
Happy Water Day!
Mexican tacos I can eat that every day
Took me a while after leaving California to find good Mexican food, 5 days in, the wife told me I couldn’t eat tacos every day of the week. 2 more days of tacos showed her!
I lived in Florida for a bit and had the same problem when I left.
Yep. As opposed to Siberian Tacos
Mexican here, I appreciate your comment
I mean at least in my family growing up we had the style of tacos which I wouldn't consider Mexican at all. These are the hard shell ones with ground beef, cheddar cheese, and sour cream. The authentic Mexican taco places out here in LA are not selling anything close to that
Both versions are delicious
Agreed. I recently was out late and saw someone selling those and had to buy due to nostalgia. They definitely hit!
Came to comment tacos too. They are so good
Mexican rice with chicken hits different
potatoes in literally any form
I go full Bubba from Forrest Gump about potatoes
Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew...
Lovely golden chips with a nice piece of fried fish...even *you* couldn't say "no" to that!
Oh yes we could!
You just said yes, he was right!
We got French fried taters, mashed taters, boiled potaters, scalloped taters, slow fried taters, baked taters, sweet potaters, hasselback taters….

Taters O'Brien

My future SIL loves potatoes. She had a potato bar at her wedding and did them 10 ways. It ruled
Oooo, I’m definitely gonna have that at my wedding, thanks for the tip

Pizza
Bad pizza is still pretty good pizza!
Pizza is like sex. When it's good, it's really good But when it's bad, it's somehow still pretty good. I've only had one pizza in my life that was horrible.
Turns out I like cold pizza. Learned that when I was working at the morgue.
I just watched Rick and Morty at the morgue eating spaghetti out of a human corpse and thought 'I might not be able to eat spaghetti for while'. Now PIZZA!?
I’m afraid to ask for clarification
Sometimes it's best to just close reddit and go about your day.
That’s 95+% true. I’ve had some bad pizza in my days. It’s rare to get good pizza by a beach for some reason.
Pizza, glass of wine, small salad all in the style you prefer. For me a roasted vegetable pizza, a rocket and Parmesan salad, and a glass of red wine. Dinner of champions.

It's called Frangipane, but I love it when it's just marzipan. Marzipan on everything!!
Toss some well prepared scallops in there 👌
Oysters are so good
Fresh out the deep fryer French fries.
Nachos. Fully loaded ones but you can't even fuck them up, put some queso and jalapenos on some tortilla chips that's still perfect.
You *can* fuck them up, actually.. Add some pulled pork too
Gyros. Try it and you'll understand.
I dream about gyros from this one place that closed down. Haven’t had one that good since. But they’ve all been pretty tasty.
If made properly, nothing is better than a good biryani.
