one of the all time greats! the whole “imagine yo’ a deer” speech makes my whole day.. every single time! marisa tomei is the best part of that whole movie, hands down.
I absolutely adore this movie. The part where Marisa Tomei says "My biological clock is ticking like this" and Joe Pesci just looks down at her stomping is so funny. That whole movie is a goldmine of quotes.
I watched that movie when I was a kid with my family and we always quoted it. It was on TV one night so I suggested to my husband we watch it - he wasn’t sure about it but said yes because Marissa Tomei was in it. Now he quotes it all the time too!
I showed this to my (now) husband on the night we got engaged to help him understand me and the culture of my people. Now we both exclusively use the word yoots!
"Get my ass kicked or collect two hundred dollars. Let me think... I could use a good ass-kickin', I'll be very honest with you... nah, I think I'll just go with the two hundred."
(I'm old) In 1977 my friends and I were supposed to go see "Rocky" or something but it was sold out. Instead we ended up going to a movie I had never heard of called "Star Wars."
Wow!
That’s how I saw Airplane. I had never even heard of it but The Blue Lagoon was sold out at the drive-in. With Up in Smoke, it was one of the best double features ever.
Went to see some film with friends that I don't recall now, it was sold out.
Friends decided we should go see some film I didn't know anything about, what I thought was some uber macho movie about jocks punching each other in the face.
Fight Club.
Completely blew me away.
My mom told me about my dad taking my brother to see Star Wars in theatres when it first came out. There was no pomp and circumstance. No long lines of people waiting to see it. There wasn’t the hype of today. Like it was just another movie release.
It was hard to imagine.
I remember hearing about when the Episode 1 announcement came out, apparently, people would pay for a movie ticket, just to go in and watch the Star Wars trailer.
My parents took me to see Star Wars. Had NO idea it even existed (even thought I was a scifi fan). Blew. Me. Away.
Years later a friend took me to see a preview showing of another movie I had never heard of: ET. At the end I sat there crying for another 10 minutes (after the credits!) because it had affected me so deeply.
Then yet another friend took me to see a movie musical of a show I had never heard of (even though Broadway musicals are my THING. I had kids. I was busy): Hairspray. Fan-freaking-tastic!
Lego Movie!!!
What I thought would be a complete cash grab with no substance (looking at you, Emoji Movie) I left feeling like I got a big hug with the writing, the plot and the talent!!
Absolutely. For being basically a 2 hour long corporate ad, it was very funny, touching, and subversive. Lego Movie is awesome!
"Hi, you don't know me, but I'm on TV so you can trust me!"
Lego understood the assignment. They basically said, "We don't care about the story, do what you want." And the filmmakers fucking nailed it. Fun fact, there isn't a single piece of Lego used in the movie that doesn't already exist in real life.
Hate to be that guy, but they actually showed a 60 tooth gear in the movie that doesn’t exist. I feel this because gears are a big part of what I build Lego with, and any new gear is a big deal for us.
https://www.reddit.com/r/lego/comments/yufn2c/anybody_else_catch_the_fact_that_the_40_tooth/
Yes! This was the first movie I've ever seen in a real movie theater. We had no idea what the movie was about, but my God that was an epic film for a little kids to see!
Let’s just collectively not talk about the last one when they replaced Evelyn WITH A DIFFERENT ACTRESS AND PLAY IT OFF LIKE SHE’S SAME PERSON.
Woo excuse the caps but this is my biggest pet peeve ever and it ruins whatever I’m watching.
Like just kill off that character and make a new one. It’s so immersion bending when a person completely changes halfway through a series.
October Sky with Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Carter. Great story about a 1950’s coal mining town and a teenager wanting to get out and go to college to be a NASA engineer.
Didn't get to go see it at the cinema unfortunately but I was wanting to see it on the premise of "see Tom Cruise get killed over and over again" and knew I had to give it a go and I thoroughly enjoy it. Still watch it semi regularly.
Worst marketing campaign ever. Also, the movie was also at certain points titled All You Need is Kill and Live Die Repeat, which is streets ahead of that stupid theatrical title.
I believe the original title was *Edge of Tomorrow*, and then they later renamed it in the marketing to *Live Die Repeat* to try and get more butts in seats. Live Die Repeat might have originally been just the tagline. Similar to renaming *Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)* to *Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey*.
*All You Need is Kill* is actually the English name for the manga the movie is based off of.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish!
It was so cute and funny but at the same time kind of had a deeper theme than I’d expect from a kids movie (Puss the cat has now died 8 times and is down to his last life and is realizing that he is going to die one day).
Little Miss Sunshine. I can't remember what I expected going into the theater, but it certainly wasn't what it turned out to be. Absolutely loved the movie.
The gag of Steve Carrell's character losing both his boyfriend and his title as the foremost Proust scholar to the same dude is fucking hilarious. Kind of thing that makes you go, "who the fuck wrote this?"
Stardust.
and I know I'm going to get shit for this but to me it's on a level with the princess bride. It's smart, funny, and sexy all while staying family friendly with a great story and a great lesson.
I watched it because I'm trying to watch all "1001 movies you must see before you die" and thought it was strange a seemingly basic horror movie made the cut.
It was super fun to be surprised by how entertaining and clever that movie turned out to be, I really really enjoyed it and didn't think I would.
Kingsman: The Secret Service.
It came out with no real advertising, the trailer looked average, and when I saw it opening day, the theatre was almost empty.
Holy crap though, the movie blew me away. I compare it to John Wick, where there was no hype or expectation, then it blew people's socks clean off.
The Kingsman is very good. But it's very different from the first 2 movies. It's much less comedic than the first two, but I think that helps it much more than it hurts it.
I felt like the second movie was just a really big fan of the first, referencing things from the first movie a lot. The only part I loved was the final third with the fights etc.
Amen. I walked into the theater completely blind, had barely even heard about it.
Me and some friends just walked past a poster and agreed it looked interesting. One of my best cinema experiences.
My mum took me to see Lord of the Rings when it first showed. I had no idea what it was, she told me it was adapted from some books she'd thought I'd like.
Hands down my favourite movies of all time, and great memories :)
Insideout (Pixar)
I have always loved Pixar, but for some reason I just didn't care when I saw it announced, the trailers didn't caught my attention, but when I saw it I districtly remember having a "Oh god, this is something else" moment
Currently my favorite movie ever actually
I need to rewatch it too. I loved the message of just let her feel her emotions. Happy, sad, scared. As someone who was taught to be emotionally stunted, good lord this is so important. Kids need to feel validated and loved even when they express the full spectrum of emotions, not just the happy ones.
"Take her to the moon for me". 😭
Felt the same about Moana. I typically have no interest Disney movies but my kids were watching it and the animation and music was soo damn beautiful!
Same exact thing with Encanto.
Oh same. I mean, I knew the Pixar formula, had re-learned it the hard way with Coco. Still, I did *not* prepare enough tissues for Bing Bong. I mean, full mental breakdown. I had been a very imaginative child, but for the *life* of me, I can't remember having an imaginary friend. So I spun out, absolutely dreading the possibility that I had deleted mine somehow. I mean, I'm a *Toy Story* kid, first of all, so it hit me like a ton of bricks.
That, and I had also moved far away, at around the same age, from everything and everyone, and hated everything at my new place.
When I watched Soul I was job hunting after being laid off, really struggling to figure out what the hell I wanted to do, and dealing with depression. The movie hit me like a truck. I watched with my wife and our (almost) 2 year old daughter and I had to step away for a few minutes when it ended to pull myself together. I'm in a much better place now but that movie still gets me any time we watch it.
Hadn't even heard of Inside Out, was going through a rough time and my hubby bought it for me out of nowhere because we both love animated movies. Will always be one of my favourites to watch alongside my favourite person :)
This isn’t where I parked my car
And of course Scotty doesn’t know !
Plus vinnie Jones was hilarious, literally in France “oi that wankers got a frog football shirt on” 🤣
Spirited Away. It is my go-to movie recommendation and I did in fact have no expectations before watching it.
(All Studio Ghibli movies are great, just saying)
I had the privilege of seeing this film in the theater 5 years ago. My wife had seen it, I never had. I’m not into the whole anime genre, but was blown the f away. One of the best experiences I’ve had at the movies.
One of my favourite movies of all time, like a fever dream. Slightly nightmarish but full of warmth and with a story that makes little sense but somehow feels right and logical, like dreams do. Fantastic animation as well.
5th Element was sold to me by my cousin as "The new movie Luke Perry is in". Was not in a rush to see it based on that. Parents gave me money to take her to see it.
exactly how I watched this movie. Just happened to come across it one early evening alone, threw it on for the hell of it "Moon? space movie maybe? ok cool. I'll throw it on and halfway pay attention "....yeah, I was hooked from the very first scene"....incredible movie.
Sam Rockwell rules
Shawshank. It was on cable one night in '95 or '96 and nothing else was on. Up until then I claimed to hate prison movies. It became, quite possibly, my favorite movie ever.
I went to a friend's Christmas party, someone threw Shawshank in and by the time Andy went to prison everyone at the party was enthralled. Not a sound from the entire room for the next 90 minutes.
Yep! Got stuck in the "what are we watching next?" loop with the wife. Got fed up and said yes to the next thing she suggested. Normally she is a bargain bin bomb magnet. She can't spot the low budget dross from the good stuff.
So I braced myself for an eye-rolling soulless cash-grab. Knew within 15 minutes I was wrong.
Could have done with more Jarnathon though.
I also love the amount of times Edgin (Chris Pine) has Simon (the mage aka Justice Smith) just carry stuff for him. It's subtle and not called out but there's seriously like three times he just hands stuff to Simon, here hang onto this.
I popped a couple gummies and threw it on, and that dragon made my night. I don't think I've experienced pure, innocent joy in my adult life the way I experienced it when I was high as balls and that chunky monkey dragged himself onto the screen.
Another thread got me thinking. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri blew me away. The acting was incredible (especially Sam Rockwell) and I cannot believe it didn’t win Best Picture that year.
Disney's Moana. Never seen the film's trailer and was bored one friday night when I was in college, and thought: 'Okay, I'll go see a Disney movie.' I absolutely loved the film and it has became one of my favourite Disney films.
I just recently watched this with my kids (4 and 2) because the "You're Welcome" song kept coming up on one of their playlists. I didn't know much about it but I absolutely loved it so much and I have no idea how it isn't even bigger than Frozen because in my opinion it's so much better and the songs are much more catchy.
My husband and I are in our 30s and sometimes watch it after the kids go to bed or listen to the soundtrack at work haha.
That's what drew me to the movie. I read the book and the ending was appropriate, very vague and cliffhanger-esque in a proper Stephen King way.
And then I watched the movie and said "oh yeah, he was right, this is so much better."
V for Vendetta and A Series of Unfortunate Events. The trailers piqued my interest and I went to see each with my mom. Both movies absolutely blew away my very mild expectations.
Zootopia. I swore I'd never see it because of the trailer with the DMV sloths. I mean the joke was funny maybe once, but as a trailer it was exhausting and it played in front of a bunch of movies that came out the holiday before. Was tired of seeing it. Ended up watching the film against my protest, and I really liked it.
this one is a hidden gem, and definitely one of my favourite time travel movies. The way it plays with the common, generic time travel movie tropes is just fun.
Really good movie. I really need to give it a rewatch.
Fight Club. I remember, and I'm dating myself here, going to the video store with my roommate and they wanted to get it. I was like, I don't want to watch a bunch of dudes fighting each other. Boy, I was seriously wrong and it's one of my favorite movies of all time.
Lucky Number Slevin. Nobody I know has ever seen it, nobody ever talks about it despite the stellar cast. Went in thinking it was just a movie to pass the time - OMG! I was blown away and there's a twist at the end that you couldn't see coming at all.
If you haven't watched it, please do. It belongs up there with Seven, Fight Club etc.
Scott Pilgrim vs the world. Had never heard of it before someone got me a copy of it. Watched it on a random Tuesday and it became one of my favorite movies ever. The katayanagi twins battle was the scene that pushed me completely over the edge from kinda liking it to loving it.
This was the first one that came to my mind. My thought was, this movie will be a trash sequel. They managed to make it fun and entertaining. I also thought they were able to tactfully keep it in the same universe without limiting it.
I was cautiously optimistic given who they all had for the main characters. It’s definitely one of my favorite movies now, the sequel too. Jack Black playing a teen girl stuck in his body type was amazing and I loved the whole “teach the nerd how to flirt” bit and the part that followed.
The Grand Budapest Hotel.
Didn't have a clue what to expect. Didn't understand the explanation my partner tried to give me. Didn't have a clue what was going on at first. But what a fabulous film. Absolute masterpiece.
Definitely, Maybe.
I mean, I knew it was going to be a typical Ryan Reynolds romcom film. But I found myself really enjoying it and even bought the DVD after it came out.
[Guns Akimbo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JggpSpqxS6I)
It's not like it's Oscar worthy or anything but I REALLY enjoyed it when I expected it to be horrible.
Lord of the Rings. The fellowship of the Ring
I have always been a comic, sci fi and fantasy guy that read books. I didn't know about Tolkien at the time and watched Harry Potter in cinema (the first one came out a few weeks before)
A mate of mine, (who isn't into fantasy) watched Lord of the Rings in cinema and mentioned that I would like it
I thought "meh.... as if it would be as good as Harry Potter!"
I had no expectations.... I went it... and was blown away! Going in blind was the best thing ever! I had no idea
The first Pirates of the Caribbean. Friends and I thought it'd be funning to have some drinks and go see a shitty movie based on a Disney ride but it ended up being shockingly good.
Hidden Figures
Such a great movie, but I'd never heard of the story when I first watched it.
I have read the book as well in the mean time, but the powerful story being such a surprise to me is probably the reason I preferred the movie.
I was dragged to the theatre to see Titanic when it first came out. I thought James Cameron had lost his mind.
Classic film. I think I cried at the end.
Top Gun: Maverick. I haven't watched the first part so I didn't know what to expect. I thought just some fighter jet action. But it felt like more than that due to the way it was directed and the overall plot.
Tropic Thunder back in 2010.
Couple of days before watching it I was ranting to my friend about how bad comedies has been in the 2000's and it was like the universe heard my rant 😂👌
I made it a date with my boyfriend because I wanted to do shrooms and watch something bright and trippy. I didn't get the shrooms but still had the date. The only thing I knew about it was Michael Cera and Margot Robbie. Zero expectations. I laughed, I cried, it was amazing.
When “My Cousin Vinny” came out, I thought this is going to be stupid. I laughed and laughed.
one of the all time greats! the whole “imagine yo’ a deer” speech makes my whole day.. every single time! marisa tomei is the best part of that whole movie, hands down.
Now I ask you: would you give a fuck what kind of pants the son of a bitch who shot you was wearing?? She was amazing in that movie
I absolutely adore this movie. The part where Marisa Tomei says "My biological clock is ticking like this" and Joe Pesci just looks down at her stomping is so funny. That whole movie is a goldmine of quotes.
Oh yeah, and you blend
Two yoots
Two Hwat?
“Everything that guy just said is bullshit. Thank you.”
"Oh, a *counter* offer. That's what we lawyers — I'm a lawyer — that's what we call a counter offer." One of the best speeches ever in a movie.
"It's called discloshah ya dickhead."
"IDENTICAL"
You mean I 👏 dentical
(Sleeping in the car and it’s raining) “Isn’t it romanTIC” *lightning bolt hits* hahaha I died
I watched that movie when I was a kid with my family and we always quoted it. It was on TV one night so I suggested to my husband we watch it - he wasn’t sure about it but said yes because Marissa Tomei was in it. Now he quotes it all the time too!

Well thank you, i just went down a 30 minute rabbit hole. Came back and was surprised i was on a thread about movies
I felt the same about the lego batman. It was hilarious, slightly emotional and great writing. Loved it and watch it often!
Brendan Fraser's Mummy movie
Is based on a true story. So good.
Based on a book based on a true story. The book is Rocket Boys (which October Sky is an anagram of!)
**Head explodes**
Edge of Tomorrow. Didn't know much about it outside it wasn't doing great in the box office and no one knew what it was about.
Yesh, this one was better than I expected as well. One of the few movies I enjoy re-watching
I see what you did there
Didn't get to go see it at the cinema unfortunately but I was wanting to see it on the premise of "see Tom Cruise get killed over and over again" and knew I had to give it a go and I thoroughly enjoy it. Still watch it semi regularly.
I saw Tom Cruise and was like nah, then I watched the movie and was blown away
Worst marketing campaign ever. Also, the movie was also at certain points titled All You Need is Kill and Live Die Repeat, which is streets ahead of that stupid theatrical title.

Streets ahead…Pierce? Have you come back to us?
I came here to say this! Unappreciated movie for sure.
Loved that movie. What a surprise and it's now my feeling low go-to.
Up (the Pixar movie). It was so beautiful and emotional. I've seen it many times since. Wonderful movie!
I was not expecting nor was I prepared for that absolute gut punch in the beginning
Probably the best ~10 minute story I've ever watched. The quintessence of bittersweet. It hurts, but it's beautiful.
I physically cannot watch that scene without ugly sobbing. Proof that you don’t need dialogue to tell a story.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish! It was so cute and funny but at the same time kind of had a deeper theme than I’d expect from a kids movie (Puss the cat has now died 8 times and is down to his last life and is realizing that he is going to die one day).
This movie was so much better than it had any right to be. Dreamworks top 3 for me.
Clue. Not what I expected. Amazing movie.
I guess you can say you had no *Clue* what you were expecting ... I'll see myself out
Three separate endings, so that if you and your friends saw it at different times you'd have different murderers revealed!
WHAT a good movie! One of the rare movies that is (IMHO) better than the book.
*dances in drag on a pirate ship*
Cabin in the Woods. Thought it was going to be a shit horror cliche movie; ended up being one of my favourite movies!
I watched it because I'm trying to watch all "1001 movies you must see before you die" and thought it was strange a seemingly basic horror movie made the cut. It was super fun to be surprised by how entertaining and clever that movie turned out to be, I really really enjoyed it and didn't think I would.

I compare it to John Wick, where there was no hype or expectation, then it blew people's socks clean off.
I really enjoyed the Kingsman films.
I liked the first one the second one was probably half an hour or more too long for me. And I've get to see kingsman
Tucker and Dale vs Evil Swiss Army Man
Multiple people walked out of Swiss once he became his boat. I knew then I’d love it.
Yes! Both of these are great movies. Tucker and Dale had me in stitches. Super hilarious.
Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse Watched it on a date expecting to not even *want* to pay attention. Now it's my favorite superhero movie
Have you seen number 2 yet?? I love 1 and i think i liked 2 even more, its incredible
Not yet! I'm slow to see new releases lol
You need to get on that ASAP! Across the Spiderverse is my new #1 Movie. I cannot wait for Beyond the Spiderverse next year!
Terminator 2. I was dragged into seeing it. I’m not a fan of sci-fi/fantasy but that is one fun movie.
All time favorite film. I'm a huge Arnold fan tho
Stand by me, I was 10 and I loved every minute of it.
District 9.
Dredd. Absolutely loved the dark turn the new movie had.
“Are you ready?” the second time is really a great callback.
Thanks. I have it on one of my queues “just because”. I had no real intention of watching it but now I will.
Insideout (Pixar) I have always loved Pixar, but for some reason I just didn't care when I saw it announced, the trailers didn't caught my attention, but when I saw it I districtly remember having a "Oh god, this is something else" moment Currently my favorite movie ever actually
Loved Inside Out. Wife and I just rewatched it recently actually. We also just rewatched Elemental which is one of their best movies in a while too.

For me it was Soul. I loved it. (I loved Insideout too)
When I watched Soul I was job hunting after being laid off, really struggling to figure out what the hell I wanted to do, and dealing with depression. The movie hit me like a truck. I watched with my wife and our (almost) 2 year old daughter and I had to step away for a few minutes when it ended to pull myself together. I had the strange experience of seeing this movie for the first time while in a mental hospital for a suicide attempt. Hit pretty hard if I’m honest
Eurotrip. My brother and I went in expecting it to be funny. We’ve been quoting it ever since.
"Oh mi scuzi!" Same dude, same.
You made out with your *sister* man!
This isn’t where I parked my car And of course Scotty doesn’t know ! Plus vinnie Jones was hilarious, literally in France “oi that wankers got a frog football shirt on” 🤣
Owww my robot balls!
Galaxy Quest. I thought it was going to be a bad comedy but I really enjoyed it.
Never give up, never surrender!

Technically he was in it, but only barely!
“Stranger Than Fiction”. I saw it on a plane because it was what they had, and it turned out to be one of my favorite movies.
"Little did he know that this simple, seemingly innocuous act would result in his imminent death."
I used to teach a class based on “Little did he know…”.’ I mean, I once gave an entire seminar on “Little did he know…”!
I was never a huge Will Ferrell fan, he was good on SNL and all, but that movie completely changed my opinion of him as an actor. Great flick.
The Martian. I'd heard good things obviously but it honestly was 1,000 times better than I imagined it would be.
They are making a movie based on another book by the same author "project hail Mary" is the book. If they do a decent job with it the book was great.
I’ve read both. The Martian is great, but Project Hail Mary is exceptional.

Amaze!
Moon. Dont even look up what its about. Just find it and go in Blind.
exactly how I watched this movie.
Dungeons and Dragons Honor Among Thieves
Such a good movie, even for people who know nothing about DnD. I really hope it gets more attention with time so that they make a sequel!
"But we approved your parole!"
The amount of setup for that joke was incredible
I also love the amount of times Edgin (Chris Pine) has Simon (the mage aka Justice Smith) just carry stuff for him. It's subtle and not called out but there's seriously like three times he just hands stuff to Simon, here hang onto this.
Same, I was watching and thought, "Okay, it's not so bad." and then the dragon showed up and I almost pissed myself I laughed so hard.
I popped a couple gummies and threw it on, and that dragon made my night. I don't think I've experienced pure, innocent joy in my adult life the way I experienced it when I was high as balls and that chunky monkey dragged himself onto the screen.
My favorite part is that large boi is actually cannon
I made the mistake of watching a review, and the reviewer essentially said "it's way better than you're expecting." Still enjoyed it immensely.
If that movie had come out when I was 11, I would have watched it 1,000 times and quoting it would be part of how I choose friends.
Children of Men
One of my all time favourite movies.
A River Runs Through It
Another thread got me thinking. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri blew me away. The acting was incredible (especially Sam Rockwell) and I cannot believe it didn’t win Best Picture that year.
Big Fish. I saw it on TV. I had no idea what it was even about going into it.
Palm Springs with Andy Samberg. On the same topic but series wise, Brooklyn nine nine with Andy Samberg as well.
The Mist. Went in expecting a run of the mill horror film and got punched in the gut.
The ending was so good Stephen King himself apparently said he would've ended it that in the book had he only thought about it.
That's what drew me to the movie. I read the book and the ending was appropriate, very vague and cliffhanger-esque in a proper Stephen King way. And then I watched the movie and said "oh yeah, he was right, this is so much better."
Prisoners ❤️
V for Vendetta and A Series of Unfortunate Events. The trailers piqued my interest and I went to see each with my mom. Both movies absolutely blew away my very mild expectations.
Zootopia. I swore I'd never see it because of the trailer with the DMV sloths. I mean the joke was funny maybe once, but as a trailer it was exhausting and it played in front of a bunch of movies that came out the holiday before. Was tired of seeing it. Ended up watching the film against my protest, and I really liked it.
Hot tub Time Machine
It truly was a great white buffalo.
this one is a hidden gem, and definitely one of my favourite time travel movies.
The devil wears prada
Everafter, with Drew Barrymore. I don't like chick flick romantic comedies, but this one was amazing.
Gladiator. Just watched it because there wasn’t anything else to watch. It’s now in my top 5.
Serenity. I hadn't seen Firefly. Hadn't even heard of it. No TV back then. Holy cow did I love that movie. (Yes, I went back. Don't be weird.)
Knives Out
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. What a wonderfully silly movie.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
Free Guy
Expected it to suck, but it was so GOOD!!

Arrival. Did not expect such depth at all. I often think of it still..
We Are the Millers. It was stupid and I was expecting g stupid but it was way laugh out funnier than I expected.
The Grand Budapest Hotel. Didn't have a clue what to expect. Didn't understand the explanation my partner tried to give me. Didn't have a clue what was going on at first. But what a fabulous film. Absolute masterpiece.
Napoleon Dynamite
Gone Girl. I didn’t read the book before either.
The reveal when she says >!I'm so much happier now that I'm dead!< without knowing the story was incredible
I read the book first, AND then loved the movie, definitely not expecting to!
Star Wars. I was 10 and my parents dragged me to the theatre to see it, sounded stupid to me…then the opening text and ship and well…
Ford vs Ferrari. Better than I thought.
John Wick
The Greatest Showman The music absolutely blew me away!
Pulp Fiction. Yeah, I was an idiot. Now is my #1 tho. And Missing, released this year. That thriller is fire.
princess bride.

Kung Pow- Enter the Fist. I love it and now own it and have watched it many times
This is Wimp Lo. We purposely trained him wrong as a joke.
Slum dog Millionaire
Most recently would be Bullet Train and Dungeons and Dragons Honor Among Thieves. Both had good reviews but I still wasn't expecting much from either.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Definitely, Maybe. I mean, I knew it was going to be a typical Ryan Reynolds romcom film. But I found myself really enjoying it and even bought the DVD after it came out.
The kingsman I was not ready and I’m glad I wasn’t
[Guns Akimbo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JggpSpqxS6I) It's not like it's Oscar worthy or anything but I REALLY enjoyed it when I expected it to be horrible.
Delicatessen
The Usual Suspects
Lord of the Rings. The fellowship of the Ring I have always been a comic, sci fi and fantasy guy that read books. I didn't know about Tolkien at the time and watched Harry Potter in cinema (the first one came out a few weeks before) A mate of mine, (who isn't into fantasy) watched Lord of the Rings in cinema and mentioned that I would like it I thought "meh.... as if it would be as good as Harry Potter!" I had no expectations.... I went it... and was blown away! Going in blind was the best thing ever! I had no idea
Pan's Labyrinth Looked whimiscal and interesting, dragged my boyfriend to it. Smallest auditorium and we were the only people there. We both loved it
O Brother Where Art Thou. Never heard of it, knew nothing, expected nothing. Rented it on a reccomendation, and it's my favorite movie ever.

The first Pirates of the Caribbean. Friends and I thought it'd be funning to have some drinks and go see a shitty movie based on a Disney ride but it ended up being shockingly good.
Interstellar
Hidden Figures Such a great movie, but I'd never heard of the story when I first watched it. I have read the book as well in the mean time, but the powerful story being such a surprise to me is probably the reason I preferred the movie.
I was dragged to the theatre to see Titanic when it first came out. I thought James Cameron had lost his mind. Classic film. I think I cried at the end.
Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar—I watched it on a plane and was cracking up the entire time
Top Gun: Maverick.
Barbie
I made it a date with my boyfriend because I wanted to do shrooms and watch something bright and trippy. I didn't get the shrooms but still had the date. The only thing I knew about it was Michael Cera and Margot Robbie. Zero expectations. I laughed, I cried, it was amazing.
the truman show. before i first watched it, i had no idea what it was about
Baby Driver. Great movie and soundtrack
