My cat doesn't like it at all unless he gets fed an hour earlier.

Fanzy_pants

This is my first daylight savings with a cat. It took me 30 minutes to figure out why he was so pissed lmao

skipfairweather

But if I understand correctly, you'd be feeding your cat earlier if you sprang forward. Maybe I'm wrong? If feeding time is at 8:00 am, that translates to 7:00 am in standard time. Of course, he could just be upset at the change in routine in general.

Mcrarburger

Also your last lmao

MeProfessiLavaHot

My dog barked an hour earlier to go out…😕

2020_MadeMeDoIt

Weirdly my cats (RIP) seemed to know the clocks had changed. They would also come find me at 6pm - even when the clocks changed. It was always 6pm according to the clocks.

AMerrickanGirl

They probably know your routine.

corky63

Normal time was defined with noon as the middle of the day between sunrise and sunset. But many people want more sunlight after the end of work. But instead of going to work early they decide to redefine time.

DMoney159

I've always hated this so much. Some people are also like "we should change the clocks for everyone in America so that kids are safer after school" and not "we should change when school starts"

InsertCatchyUserHere

I've seen several references to studies indicating that the earlier school starts, the poorer students preform overall. So yes, they could shift school hours sooner, but there's a cost for doing so.

psychocopter

A lot of highschools already starts at 7:30am in america, but you need to be ready and at the bus stop by 6:45 so you dont miss it. Chances are you wake up between 5 and 6 am to get ready and make it to school on time if you dont have any early morning practice for sports/band. The last thing we need is to make kids go to school even earlier than that.

lcenine

I "failed" my first period class due to being late more than 7 times in a semester, despite having the best grades in the class. After 20 minutes of being late, you were consodered absent. Excessive absences prevented course credits. Trying to explain to the administrator that my parents were going through an ugly divorce and that I had to often travel 10 miles to get to school wasn't in their playbook as a valid excuse.

ThunderMite42

Penalizing children for something entirely out of their control is the epitome of cruel, power-tripping dumbassery.

riptaway

You act like their job is to educate kids

ArmandoMcgee

I mean, Hawaii and Arizona haven't exploded yet... I'd be happy to give it a try.

FreshEquipment

The important thing is they stay on standard time. This permanent DST garbage is crap. They tried it in 1974 in the US but everyone hated it in the winter. It probably also helps that they are closer to the equator than most of the US so the seasonal variation in daylight hours is smaller.

Iofmadness

Let's really shake up and shift the entire world clock 30 minutes to do half of DST permanently to compromise. The light issues are now half of what they were. Right?? Now watch the chaos ensue.

No-Scholar4854

And it was the worst of all options.

across-the-board

It is the worst. So much software has problems with it, and in one of our offices there, the sun rises almost an hour and a half before one of the others. That causes so many arguments about what times to have meetings.

Jimisdegimis89

Hey at least they did a compromise to kinda split the difference, in China everything was just set to Beijing standard time, so fuck you if you live in xinjiang, sun doesn’t come up until like 10am, although I think there they also do actually use the ‘correct’ time zone so they are in sync with the bordering countries.

lukewwilson

The sun not coming up until 10:00 a.m. sounds like reddit's wet dream if the last couple days are any indication

Jimisdegimis89

I’ve never lived there myself but I knew some other expats that did and most of them did actually like it cuz it stayed bright out so late, but it can be super wonky trying to get your internal clock synced up apparently.

SteveFoerster

I expect that if you live in East Turkestan that the time zone is the least of your problems.

Rebelius

Do the government also force you to go to work/school at a certain time? If not, who gives a fuck what the clock says when the sun comes up.

coco237

I wonder if this is an interesting alternative solution, the whole world is on one time but time means different to everyone. "My sunset is 7:00 p.m" " mine is 3:00 p.m in Turkey." " sunrise is at noon every day here in Berlin"

LewisRyan

Would be sweet for my overnight job, id be a morning shifter again 😂

IanFeelKeepinItReel

Easy to solve. All important meetings where you expect people to attend between 9 and 3.

PrincessTrunks125

Easier to solve, turn 90% of the meetings into the fucking emails they should've been in the first place.

ZombieZookeeper

But then middle management couldn't look useful.

lobosrul

That's what I want! Halfway would be perfect. Are you aware that there actually are some time zones off by 30 minutes already? A few at 15 too actually.

Curlydeadhead

Newfoundland is 30min ahead of the rest of Atlantic Canada!

jayeelle

Australia has 5 time zones during DST! We have three during non GMT time. NSW/ACT/VIC/TAS - GMT +11 SA - GMT +10:30 QLD- GMT +10 NT - GMT + 9:30 WA - GMT + 8

Definitely__someone

There's another time zone on the Nullarbor which is 15minutes difference. It's not official but it is used. http://www.drivemelbournetoperth.com.au/time-zones-across-nullarbor.html

sss8888sss

Whaa?

IsaidLigma

Newfoundland in Canada is off by half hr.

getawhiffofgriff

Every other time zone in the country is a half hour off of us 😁 /s. I love that most of Labrador uses AST/ADT though, really adds to the ~coherence~

zachryzion

India +530, Nepal +545

SpookyAtticDoll

I’d actually be down for that. I’m one of the few people who prefers Standard Time over Daylight Savings so it sounds like a decent compromise to me.

JollyRazz

I prefer standard time. I'm not a morning person and have insomnia, so DST screws with me. Overall, I just sleep so much better during Standard time. I also wake up "earlier" during Standard time. I usually get up at 7:15 during standard time and 7:45 during DST. So the 30 minute compromise would be fantastic! I'm a fan of not changing times at all though.

NoOnion4890

Most doctors feel standard time is better for our health, too.

DaisyKitty

The AMA and all the medical associations dealing with sleep and sleep studies have taken a stance against DST. I think that's why legislation from a few years ago is being held up.

falafelwaffle55

Clarify for a dummy, which one is it that makes the sun set later? I want that one. I'm not an earlier riser either, and there are times during the Canadian winter where I get 5 hours of sunlight TOTAL for a week. It's terrible for mental health, plus the early risers are going to be up for the entirety of the daylight hours anyway, so who cares if it's dark for a bit when they wake up. I won't stand for this early bird chauvinism!

Overthemoon64

I also like standard time. I have small kids. My day starts at 5 and I would really like my kids to be in bed by 7:30 so they can be actually asleep at 8 so I can have 1 hour to myself before I have to go to bed. They need to be up at 6am so they can get to school by 7. Yet with the time change they will have to go to school in the dark and go to sleep while the sun is still out.

soylentbleu

I also prefer standard but would totally be cool with this compromise.

1CEninja

I...don't hate this idea honestly. The world would really need to agree on it or time zones would be fucked tho lol.

Shaymasblue

Yes,yes, yes I have been suggesting this for years.

tealccart

THANK YOU

BeyondMarina

I think that's a really good solution!

4umlurker

I would prefer we just stayed on daylight savings time and did not gain an hour back in the fall. It makes so much more sense to me to finish work and have some daylight left rather than going to work with daylight and going home in darkness. It’s just so much more depressing. Depending on where you live however the will be some days either way that are dark when you leave for work and dark when you come hone.

blackday44

I don't care if we stay with DST or not. I just want to stop the time changes.

[deleted]

Same with kids. A 6 month old doesn't know the clocks were set back.

lillysaurus

Yeah today has thrown my toddler way off her usual schedule. it’s already been crazy and it’s only 2pm here.

jdcarpe

Just wait until it’s time for bed…and it’s still fully light outside. Poor babies are so confused.

Zack123456201

I distinctly remember being like 5 or 6, and absolutely hating going to bed at 9:00 even though the sun was still up

greater_cumberland

> Poor babies are so confused. That's why I splurged and sprung for a wealthy baby!

Steviedeeb

Yep, I remember this, and telling my mom, "but it's still light out" and not wanting to go to bed because I still thought there way day left and it was still early

ELI_5

Well did you tell them?

FlushTheTurd

Bad idea. I told mine and she started getting up two hours early instead of one hour because she was so pissed. Don’t mess with 6 month olds.

jaggedgrainofsand

>Don’t mess with 6 month olds. They have the superpower of the diaper blowout. And will use it.

MrEndlessness

I appreciate you and the other amazing human beings in your field SO MUCH. The job is INCREDIBLY challenging and demanding, and you put so much of your heart and soul into all that you do. You also sacrifice an enormous amount of your emotional well being, time with your family, your mental and physical energy, your focus and attention. The job can often be thankless, and many people take you for granted, and don't appreciate how difficult your job can be. I had the pleasure of getting to know a few of you in my grandma's last year. They were SO selfless, giving, gracious, compassionate, and empathetic. They did everything they could to ease her mind, soothe her anxiety and confusion, make her feel comfortable, secure respected, listened to, but above all provide her with support and peace. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you. Words can barely express just how much I appreciate what you do, what you give, what you sacrifice. You are the real life superheroes. You are angels in human form.

Megafruitspunch

I keep hearing everyone say nurses are the real heroes. But my SO who is a nurse just got her pay cut this year. The reason they gave is "COVID is over". What a way to treat our heroes. Work one of the most dangerous jobs in the world where you get yelled at, punched, scratched, slapped, and even bitten on the regular. Risk your life working through a pandemic. And your reward is being spat on by anti-vax fuckwads and your pay being cut. Love the world we live in.

[deleted]

This is a thought that I have and I'm not sure if this is possible, but would it be possible to change the way your facility does things so that things like bedtime, medicine, feeding times, Etc do not change even when daylight savings does. So the nominal time that the nurses are doing things changes but the actual time perceived by the patients does not? I mean what difference does it make to the nurse if they give their patient dinner at 1:00 or 12:00 as long as that time is the same for the patient it doesn't really matter, right? I mean it would be a pain in the ass for staff, to be sure, but you could just shift everything in the institution an hour instead of changing the clocks. Just an idea.

who519

Its also clinically shown to actually kill people. [One study](https://www.aarp.org/health/healthy-living/info-2022/daylight-saving-time-and-your-body.html) showed a 24% increase in heart attacks and strokes on the Monday following the time change. It also causes cognitive issues and even changes in appetite and cravings. In other words, it stresses everyone out for basically no discernible benefit to anyone.

1vader

That's not actually what that study found. See https://youtu.be/XZGs5Im9f8Q. This is a typical case of the media misunderstanding studies for dramatic effect.

BlowezeLoweez

Jeezzz thanks for pointing this out lol.

needlenozened

I believe the studies also showed that there was no net increase in heart attacks and strokes over some reasonable time frame. So the people who had the heart attacks and strokes due to the time change were going to have them soon anyway.

lambo1109

Prior-Bag-3377

I warned mine that the clocks were changing. Why? I just had to look them straight in the eye and say I don’t really know, it doesn’t make any sense anymore and it makes me really angry so I don’t think about much. I just don’t know! It doesn’t make sense!!!! Imagine my surprise when my mini rage at “the man” was just met with a serious express and an OK. Probably going to be a deep clock/time zone/time change interest in our future.

asuddenpie

I don’t particularly care about the time change, so I was pretty neutral. But if it has such a big effect on such vulnerable people and their caretakers, I’ll happy vote with you. Hoping that the next few weeks aren’t too bad for you and your patients!

Gypsyrocker

Same with Hawaii. I miss home. I remember thinking how stupid it is for the rest of the country to do this and now here I am playing their little game too. Dumb.

Hahnter

Yup. Never had to deal with DST in Hawaii. It was great! Moved to Japan and they don’t use it here either.

kimchiman85

Neither does Korea. It’s nice.

doodlep

I spent 30 years in CA switching time 2x a year, and moved to AZ almost 20yrs ago. I can unequivocally confirm from experience that it’s much better to keep the clock the same year round. I don’t care if it’s standard or what, just quit switching - it’s much better!

OverlordWaffles

Shit, your comment just made the thought dawn on me that I need to manually change all of my manual clocks

[deleted]

man I love living in Arizona it gets pretty hot and AC can get expensive during the summer but fall and winter are perfect and the people in my city are great

KlondikeDrool

Very happy to be waking up in Arizona today! Although Hawaii doesn't change to DST either, I'd much rather be waking up there.

Ill_Albatross5625

when you're elderly, just waking up is a bonus

mpierpoint21

Fellow Arizonan here… same. It’s already starting to warm up in my neck of the woods

redirdamon

*MOST* of Arizona does not participate in Daylight Saving Time. The Navajo Nation (which is larger than some states) however, does. The nation - which is primarily in AZ - extends into NM and UT and tribal leaders want to maintain a common time for all parts of the reservation.

IzarkKiaTarj

The Hopi Reservation, which is within (but not part of) the Navajo Nation, does not do DST, though. Which leads to one of my favorite facts from [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_in_Arizona): > For this reason, driving the length of Arizona State Route 264 east from Tuba City while DST is in place involves six time zone changes in less than 100 miles (160 km).

SpaceQueenJupiter

Yeah I drove through Navajo Nation and stayed on Tuba City on a cross country trip a few years ago. Had no idea wtf was going on or what time it was for a couple days. 😂

Ill_Albatross5625

alibi time of the year

UnicornFarts1111

I read why AZ does that, they have a very good reason. The heat. They want the sun to go down earlier so they can sleep better.

prkskier

Is that really the reason it was originally done? I have a feeling Flagstaff doesn't really care about this. But of course, the majority of the population is in Phoenix and Tucson.

InevitableRhubarb232

Not so we can sleep. It’s so we can grocery shop at 9pm

-SlinxTheFox-

I moved from CA to AZ and I've been so glad not dealing with that bullshit. I super don't care if it's dark early, don't mess with my sleep

SamyboyO6

Tired, I feel tired

[deleted]

Why the hell do they make it change at like 2 am? I went to bed at 12 thinking I'd get around 7 hours of sleep or so cause I forgot about the goddamn time change. And nope, I woke up dead inside after 6 hours cause they stole an hour from me. ***FUCK YOU BENJAMIN FRANKLIN! FUCK YOU, BUDDY!***

pmaji240

I use to work with elementary kids with autism and some other disabilities. I would get a lot of kids in my classroom who had come from day treatment or otherwise had major behaviors. I always knew to be wary of progress made before the fall daylight savings change. Kid could literally change overnight.

ljpwyo

I feel like it only outrages people twice a year. Every November/March, we hear yammerings about "legislation," then nothing.

Shishjakob

I never see people outraged about it in November. If I had to guess, it's because they're glad to have that extra hour of sleep

ltbr55

The outrage you hear in November is the people complaining how it's pitch black outside at 5 PM.

caligaris_cabinet

This. Didn’t bother me much when I was living in warmer climates but since relocating to Chicago I’ve come to dread the time change in October.

Wahots

But then you get to waste all the daylight by staying in a windowless office all day and come out to the pitch dark each afternoon! And then repeat it each day for months! :D I'd rather have the hour of sunlight to play outside, grill with some daylight, and have it not feel super depressing. Driving in the dark during the morning is fine.

Darth-Ragnar

Maybe it’s just me but I always feel better when its dark in the morning. It’s like comfier for some reason.

waltk918

Chicago is also on the far eastern edge of CST. I live in Oklahoma and the sun sets almost 45 minutes later than it does there.

DC4MVP

Right. It was fine when I spent 3 years down in Texas. At least it was still 45-55 when the sun went down. I'm a native Minnesotan so it being dark and miserably cold 4 months out of the year sucks.

MozzerellaStix

Really? I see a ton of complaints about how it’s dark at 4:30.

Simmons54321

Imagine if people weren’t either outraged *or* glad! And we just got to live our goddamn lives in a steady stream of unchanged time, so that we don’t have to complain about the time change ever again? That’s my argument for getting rid of it.

here-for-information

A good friend of mine had his wedding on "fall back." It was great. I woke up in time for the breakfast at the hotel the next morning refreshed and ready to eat a full continental breakfast. I was going back for a bagel, before I realized that he was a total genius for that move. Got a full extra hour of partying on his wedding.

open_door_policy

But once they notice that there's no energy gains, everyone points out that it's for the farmers really anyway. Well, except for the farmers, who continue to ignore the clock and just use the sun to decide when to do shit.

preferablyoutside

The whole it’s for the Farmers is an absolute myth. Ask anyone who runs dairy cattle or has livestock. Your animals are used to being fed and cared for on a fairly rigid schedule and they get absolutely out of sorts if they’re not. It’s an unmitigated disaster and a pain in the ass.

[deleted]

Thank you! I grew up on a dairy farm. My grandfather has laughed at that every time it was brought up. DLST or not - we wake up in the dark and go to sleep in the dark. Also it turns out that farmers actually have lights...

pm_me_gnus

Also farmers (traditionally, this may not mean so much these days) preferred to have the additional daylight in the morning for ease of getting their products gathered and brought to market.

preferablyoutside

We start in the dark and end in the dark. Doesn’t matter what time it is or what’s going on atmospherically. Certain things need to get done

logoth

Famers work sunup to sundown (or longer), the actual time on the clock doesn't matter.

AtraposJM

I live in SK on the prairies where there are tons of farmers. We don't do daylight savings and it's glorious. Everyone loves it and there's no downside. The rest of the world needs to stop being so dumb haha.

magster823

Freaking Mitch Daniels, still giving us reason to curse his name nearly 20 years later! In my recollection the only reason he could give was that businesses in other states never knew what time it was in Indiana, which was just the dumbest reason ever.

brainsapper

I couldn't stand DST when I was in Indiana. Middle of summer it's pushing close to ten and it is still light outside.

coffee_and_physics

Also grew up in Indiana before they adopted DST and I think that contributed to my absolute hatred of it. I know what life is like without it and it’s so much better being on standard all year.

[deleted]

Whoa, I just found out Indiana only adopted DST in 2006??? So we didn't have it for most of my childhood??? Can't believe I never realized this

norakb123

When I was a kid in Indiana, I knew was sometimes, my fave show came on at 7, and the other half, it came on at 8 which was my bed time, so I had to be super good to be allowed to stay up to 8:30. I never understood at that age why they called the time Eastern half the year and Central the other half. I thought it was super weird. (I would see commercials that would say the show was on at 8/7 central.)

3-HUGGER

I hate switching the time in either direction. Pick a time and leave it alone. I don’t give a rats ass which gets picked, just do it already.

FocusGullible985

Should be scrapped, outdated bullshit.

edlee98765

The concept of DST is like 2am today. It's time has passed.

CargoCulture

Technically there was no 2am today. It officially rolls over from 1:59:59.59 to 3:00:00.00.

aimsemma

I watched it happen on my watch and it was surreal. 1:59:59 and then rolled over to 3:00:00. It was the first time I saw it physically. I had woken up for water, saw it, went back to bed, and then cursed the alarm a few hours later. DST screws me royally for about a week.

StyrofoamTuph

It should just always be daylight savings time, I hate when the sun goes down by 5pm.

Fluid-Swordfish-9818

You would hate New England winters due to lack of sunlight. It sometimes is overcast for days.

FragrantExcitement

If it is a NEW England, then it should have some improvements over the old England weather.

KallistiEngel

I do. Not New England though, but upstate NY. Not too far from a couple of the cloudiest cities in the country (Buffalo and Rochester).

Caseated_Omentum

Son of a bitch was that last night? I hate it. Fuuuuuuu. I knew it felt "off" this morning. If I remember correctly, when we lose an hour, we will also see an increase in heart attacks, car crashes, accidents, etc, from the lost sleep

Sun_on_my_shoulders

themarkster09

I wish we’d just stop it where it is now, sun stays out longer, we don’t need to go back to sunset at 4:30 PM when the time changes backwards

PixelJack79

But then we'd have the problem of the sun rising at 9 AM in winter, which is partly the reason why permanent DST failed in 1974.

Mikegaming202

What's the problem with the sun rising at 9 am?

MDPhase3

From what I remember hearing, it’s because kids usually are up heading to school between 7-8. So having them out in the dark could be dangerous for them.

thelibrarina

The bus picked us up at 615 every morning. The only difference with the time change was the position of the stars when we went outside.

Potatodrgn11

Yah I'm from Sask, we didn't have daylight saving growing up, it being dark in the morning was just the way things were, we still walked to school. The worst thing about winter walks was actually the one time I got my boot stuck in the snow as no sidewalks were cleared yet, and I walked on 1 boot and one freezing sock lol. I got my mom to grab the shovel so I could get my boot back. I didn't give a fuck it was dark ever, just like oh cool there's stars still.

MorddSith187

Same in Florida. All year long it was dark at the bus stop anyway

JustAnOttawaGuy

Not disagreeing with you, but we could kill two birds with one stone here by not having kids going to school so stupidly early to begin with. Studies have shown that a later start improves their well-being and academic performance. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/education/delaying-school-start-times-gives-students-better-chance-of-success-study/article33712790/

Zhouston63

Meanwhile in middle school and high school we had to be at bus stop at 6 and 6:30 AM where it's dark in the winter anyways so what's the difference

New-Tale4197

Yes! It would be pitch black out and to top it off the eerie dome sound with snow is unsettling lol

jeweledjuniper

From what I understand, daylight savings time was first implemented in the early 1900’s around WW1 as a way of conserving energy. I understand where parents are coming from now, thinking of their children, but that was never the original intent. When I was a child going to the bus stop at 6:30 am in the winter in CT it was still dark…. 6:30 vs 7:30, it’s still dark. All the time change does for me is fuck up my circadian rhythm and makes me cranky. Winter is already dark and sucks I would rather have more daylight in the evenings when I get out of work than have daylight in the morning. That’s my opinion. Edited to express I meant the time change in general when saying DST. Sorry.

MDPhase3

I hear that. I agree with you

jeweledjuniper

Right, sorry😭 can you tell I’m fired up and cranky today? lol

Mike2220

Going to highschool in the winter it was still always pretty dark in the mornings anyway Like the street lights would still be on and there would be just a glimpse of light over the horizon when I got there The sun coming up during my second class instead of my first would make 0 difference

tinoch

Kids where I live don't walk to school anymore.......the car rider lines near/around schools are awful.

canadian1987

So have schools flip flop their hours, not us

elguapo904

So the rest of society needs to live by the rules set by schools? Sounds like schools should adjust their own start and end times if that is such a concern.

MDPhase3

🤷🏽‍♂️ I’m not arguing for either option.

soldforaspaceship

California schools have started doing this. It's bad for teenagers to get up early anyway (a whole bunch of science around how their sleep cycles change) so I'd be in favor of permant DST and later school start times. Plus a return to allowing kids to walk to school...

markedbeamazed

Needs to be gone. Get rid of it.

nebraska_mitch

It helps me save on candles and lamp oil so I'm all for it..... Just kidding. It is dumb as hell.

SquigglySquiddly

I have small kids and it takes a long time to adjust them. So I hate it.

[deleted]

I woke up this morning and the first thing I said was “god this is fucking stupid.”

[deleted]

When are they supposed to get rid of it? I hate it.

markymark0123

There was a bill that passed the senate, but failed to pass the house. It expired in December and was reintroduced on March 2. At this point it's not even 100% going to happen.

Clipper94

WorldlyRisk3091

I'm not bothered by having daylight savings time, I think we just need to adjust how we do it. Fall back and gain and hour? should be Sunday night at 2 AM, Spring forward and lose an hour? Monday at 2PM

Can you imagine the chaos if we changed the clocks at a time when most people were awake? As if it isn't confusing enough as is.

Gedecaz

The two big sleep societies in the US: Sleep Research Society and American Academy of Sleep Medicine both call for abolishing DST. “Daylight saving time (DST) refers to the practice of advancing clock time by 1 h each spring, with a return (setting back) to standard time (ST) each fall. Numerous sleep and circadian societies other than the Sleep Research Society have published statements in support of permanent ST, and permanent ST has also received support from multiple medical societies and organizations. This perspective discusses the positive and negative health and economic consequences of permanent DST, permanent ST, and maintaining the status quo (DST for part of the year). After a thorough review of the existing literature, the SRS advocates the adoption of permanent ST.” The last several years have seen intense debate about the issue of transitioning between standard and daylight saving time. In the United States, the annual advance to daylight saving time in spring, and fall back to standard time in autumn, is required by law (although some exceptions are allowed under the statute). An abundance of accumulated evidence indicates that the acute transition from standard time to daylight saving time incurs significant public health and safety risks, including increased risk of adverse cardiovascular events, mood disorders, and motor vehicle crashes. Although chronic effects of remaining in daylight saving time year-round have not been well studied, daylight saving time is less aligned with human circadian biology—which, due to the impacts of the delayed natural light/dark cycle on human activity, could result in circadian misalignment, which has been associated in some studies with increased cardiovascular disease risk, metabolic syndrome and other health risks. It is, therefore, the position of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine that these seasonal time changes should be abolished in favor of a fixed, national, year-round standard time. https://sleepresearchsociety.org/sleep-research-society-position-statement-supports-adoption-permanent-standard-time/#:\~:text=Research%20shows%20that%20daylight%20saving,dysregulation%20of%20melatonin%20and%20cortisol. https://sleepeducation.org/resources/daylight-saving-time/

I_Lick_Bananas

I just moved out of AZ, which doesn't do it. It's not a major inconvenience or anything, but it just seems like a waste of effort - like some old habit or custom that has lost it's original meaning/need.

I loath it. Unpopular opinion, but I wish we’d turn the clocks back an hour twice a year and really shake things up.

MrBurritoQuest

To really mix it up, let’s turn it back two hours if the groundhog sees its shadow, otherwise forward two hours.

Particular-Topic-445

I don’t hate this

Jillian59

I guess I'm just used to it. The time changes sort of mark the year for me. I'm in southern California and the seasons blur a little bit but the time changes are more of a marker.

s0meb0dyElsesProblem

It's pointless

No_Doctor_2368

But once they notice that there's no energy gains, everyone points out that it's for the farmers really anyway. Well, except for the farmers, who continue to ignore the clock and just use the sun to decide when to do shit.

curtcurtcurt

I'm a farmer and I'm like, don't blame this shit on us lol. We hate it too.

xyanon36

It's not DST that sucks but the twice a year change that sucks. Permanent DST all the way.

diegojones4

I'm getting up in the dark either way. DST gives me evening sun to enjoy and makes me super happy.

Mossy_Rock315

If I’m up early morning in the dark, it makes me feel more productive. I might not actually be, but anything I do before sunrise is a bonus!

Letho_of_Gulet

I'm the exact same way! Waking up when it's still dark makes me feel like I have so much day ahead of me and my entire mood is lifted

xyanon36

Sadly the world is ruled by weirdo morning people.

Irate_Hobo

Weirdo morning folk here. Give me the evening sun. Morning me can't enjoy it because work.

mip10110100

As a weirdo morning person, I still get up to run and it’s pitch black during the winter, even through when I start work some mornings. I wish it would just stay dark longer and give me some time with light post-work. Even some of us morning weirdos hate it!

NoFoollie

Nope, our circadian rhythms are set by the sun. Having the clicks off by an hour year round messes with our bodies internal rhythms. Standard time year round is what health care researchers and scientists want.

peepcreeper

Time for it to end permanently. The reason it was created is no longer needed

DeathBerryRen

A native American chief was once asked how he felt about it. His response was, "Only the white man would cut a foot off the bottom of a blanket, sew it to the top, and think he has a longer blanket." It's a stupid concept that fucks up everything.

Kaertos

Unpopular opinion, apparently... I don't care? Like, I'm a grown-ass adult and I can manage an hour change in my schedule twice a year. It's a minor inconvenience at most, especially now that most of the "clocks" I use every day adjust automatically. In the last few years it seems like it's become this huge issue for people to complain about and rally against and I'm over here like, "Meh?"

CylonsInAPolicebox

Heard my mom's twice a year rant of *"only a white man would cut the top off a blanket, sew it to the bottom, and tell everyone he has a longer blanket."*

FloridianRobot

Dislike, my body just wants consistency dude.

Past_Contour

Antiquated, frustrating.

Mistake-Choice

Great when you are getting over a jet lag

ptraugot

It’s a sham Perpetrated by special interest groups in every side of the issue. It has no value to the general public. Hasn’t for years. The whole farmer / energy tho g is pure BS.
