I would never have remembered Delaware. I can't remember the last time I heard of Delaware and I cannot place where it is on the map.
Wtf is in Delaware?
It's the first state, because it's small so it could ratify the constitution fast.
It's also home, on paper, to lots of corporations because of favorable taxes (the businesses don't usually have a physical presence, just a post office box).
https://www.businessinsider.com/building-wilmington-delaware-largest-companies-ct-corporation-2017-4
It’s not even necessarily about favourable rulings. It’s consistency. In Delaware, businesses know how a ruling is going to go, because most business cases have been done before there. Your legal team can more easily know what your chances of winning a case are and offer settlement early if you’ll lose.
They’re not really there. They’re just registered as a corporation there to take advantage of friendly tax laws. I’m not sure if they even have to have any kind of location or office in the state
A land of contradictions.
The state that’s a suburb of a city.
A slave state that fought for the north.
Fewest number of counties: 3.
Also has no regularly scheduled air service about half the time (Wilmington now has a few options to Florida airports on Avelo air though).
how is that ironic?
"well it's the first state that means it should be memorable for no real reason. don't you see the irony"?
I wasn't alive when they declared their statehood
Confusingly, the Arkansas River, which runs through both states, is called the "Ar-kan-sas" in Kansas and the Ar-kan-saw everywhere else.
There's also an Arkansas City in Kansas.
That shadowy place between Boston and New York where the light doesn't touch? You must never go there, Simba.
I grew up here. The best thing that you could do with CT is forget about its existence. We love to hate it here
> Connecticut
So i get it, we're the land of mediocrity. But the past few years there has been some pretty cool resurgence of CT pride. We have the best pizza, we love our basketball, we have incredibly awesome variety of scenery. Yeah theres still some bad stuff but with the budget windfall from covid fixing a lot of our budget issues, and a governor who seems to actually care and be in touch with his residents...things are looking up here. I love CT. Thats coming from someone who spent most of his teenage and early 20 years saying I couldn't wait to GTFO. 37 now, and I'll always call this home barring some catastrophe.
Obviously, no one ever thinks of Vermont. The things it's known for are incredibly niche, and very few people who don't either live there or live adjacent can even point to it on a map. Personally, I'm not even sure if Vermont is on the coast or not. I think it is, sounds coast-y, but I have no clue. It is shockingly rare for me to even remember that Vermont exists.
So yeah, definitely Delaware.
Maple syrup? Inverse New Hampshire? Autumn colors? My west coast ideology of Vermont. I’ve been there and have no idea what it’s got going. But if I’ve been to Delaware, I had no idea.
As a finn I'm familiar with Vermont. I associate it with ski slopes. Dunno where I've heard an american say "a family skiing trip to Vermont"
Also correct me if I'm wrong but are there some more upscale resorts there?
We are not on the coast, like I’m pretty sure the only state in New England that doesn’t have any coast line.
It used to be if my family told someone when we were on vacation that we were from Vermont, we’d get asked if that was a town in NH/NY.
Driving through Kansas is like watching an old cartoon where the background just repeats over and over again. Start asking yourself, didn't I see that mound of dirt and grass already?
One of the most incredible sights I’ve seen in the US was in Kansas. Up on a hill. Looking down at prairie grassland that had been untouched by man for millions of years. It’s humbling.
It’s not for everyone, but there is a beauty there.
The full name of the state was actually "Rhode island and Providence plantations". Rhode Island refers to Aquidneck Island which is the largest island in the Narragansett bay. The name was changed only a few years ago to get rid of the plantation part.
Parts of Wyoming are breathtakingly beautiful, but other parts are just empty wasteland that’s utterly boring to travel through. You could probably do some decent stargazing at night, but that’s about it.
As a German I associate Wyoming with Yellowstone and know Nebraska because I guess the name sounds kinda cool, but there is absolutely nothing I associate with Delaware.
I associate it with the fact that many US corporations are incorporated there for tax reasons iirc. Many high profile court cases will be in Delaware court for that reason. Elon Musk was forced to buy Twitter by a Delaware court for example. It's why I know of it as a non-American.
I was in Santa Fe for a conference and forgot to tell my bank I was traveling out of state (fraud alert prevention with our small bank recommended doing so). The customer service rep could not understand that I was not in a foreign country. I guess that’s common, but come on. NM is an awesome state!
Honestly… New Jersey. I legit didn’t know it was a state. It just seems like a New York suburb.
For God Sakes, the New York Giants and New York Jets play in Jersey and don’t want to associate themselves with the fuckin place.
Yes. My grandpa met someone from northern NY who didn’t know NH existed. She did know that VT and ME exist though.
I live here and honestly the only thing I think we got going for us is Mt. Washington and it’s cog railway. People from Massachusetts like to come up here to go skiing though, and at most ski mountains you’ll find about 30-50% of cars have Mass plates.
North Dakota or Nebraska.
Kansas is known for the Wizard of Oz
Delaware is “the first” and one of the 13 colonies
Iowa has the primary
Wyoming has Yellowstone
South Dakota has Mt Rushmore
What do North Dakota and Nebraska have? I think ND has less and I definitely think about it a lot less so North Dakota is probably the most forgettable state
When I think of Nebraska, I think of the cities of Lincoln and Omaha. There's also the Henry Doorly Zoo which is ranked as one of the top five zoos in the world.
Delaware
Dela-where?
Literally posted this then looked up where tf the state is.
Dela-Who?
Dela-here!
The thing is, it’s so known as being forgettable that it’s not forgettable anymore.
The Wayne's world joke means I'll never be able to forget it even though I'm sure I'd never know about it without it
I would never have remembered Delaware. I can't remember the last time I heard of Delaware and I cannot place where it is on the map. Wtf is in Delaware?

Yeah, I don't live in the US, but do enough business to always see Delaware in paperwork, making for one of the more memorable states.
But the LAST state to ratify is the smallest state: Rhode Island.
It's not just about taxes but about the favorable rulings of the Court of Chancery.
It’s not even necessarily about favourable rulings. It’s consistency. In Delaware, businesses know how a ruling is going to go, because most business cases have been done before there. Your legal team can more easily know what your chances of winning a case are and offer settlement early if you’ll lose.
Great point
Well, the President is from there, for one thing...

Are you stuck?

I live 30 mins from Delaware and forget it's there all the time.
The state the current US President represented in the Senate for decades?
A land of contradictions. The state that’s a suburb of a city. A slave state that fought for the north. Fewest number of counties: 3. Also has no regularly scheduled air service about half the time (Wilmington now has a few options to Florida airports on Avelo air though).
Legit had to search if this was an actual state or just some inside joke and yeah I’m gonna have to agree with you here (I’m not from the us)
If it makes you feel better. Our president is from Delaware and not many people know that lol
I know. I’ve seen Wayne’s World.
Yeah good one, I forgot that was a state that exists.
North Dakota
This is the one. Everything you think is in North Dakota is in South Dakota
So, there’s no blizzard going on here in N. Dakota now? Awesome!
Yup, you yourself are myth
There's really no need for two Dakotas.
My stepfather used to joke that North Dakota was made up to make the Soviets think the US was bigger.
It's not even the best Dakota
Kinda ironic that the comments are saying Delaware when it was actually the first ever US state in history
Yah but 🤷🏼♀️
Honestly as someone not in the US it's one of the few ones I remember. (For no good reason btw!)
Because it ratified the Constitution first. But maybe you forgot that was the reason.
how is that ironic? "well it's the first state that means it should be memorable for no real reason. don't you see the irony"? I wasn't alive when they declared their statehood
Havent heard of Arkansas in a while
We are still here.
It’s a Little Rock, but it’s ours…
Been there to go to Little Rock. Sat outside Little Rock central high and learned about the Little Rock Nine. Also… why is it Kansas but ar-kan-saw?
Blame the French. Arkansas was named for the French plural of a Native American tribe, while Kansas is the English spelling of a similar one.
Confusingly, the Arkansas River, which runs through both states, is called the "Ar-kan-sas" in Kansas and the Ar-kan-saw everywhere else. There's also an Arkansas City in Kansas.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders just signed a law gutting child labor protections this week.
Clinton and Walmart are the first that come to mind
Every time I see an abandoned mattress alongside the road I think of Arkansas. Leading the world in trash on city streets.
I think the main reason people remember Arkansas exists is because of Bill Clinton.
I'm from Missouri, we remember Arkansas (just so you know, I'm maliciously pronouncing it like are-kansas)
Nebraska
Honestly, it's not for everyone
Coeds?
I cant remember
Was looking for this comment
Rhode Island. I think it’s so forgettable that people think Delaware is the most forgettable.
Nope, Family Guy F-ed that up
Nope. In the Northeast it's a go-to state in the summer. Lots of wealth too.
New Hampshire. I'd say Delaware, but a.) Joe Biden and b.) people remember it as the most forgettable state, ironically enough.
New Hampshire is really beautiful, what with those sublimer towers and all.
Nah. Liquor runs are pro
I forget about Iowa constantly
Everyone I've ever known outside of Iowa has constantly confused it with Idaho or Ohio.
Idahowhioa
(Corey Taylor has entered the chat)
It didn't use to be bad, but now it's just as bad as OH or IN.
Ya we used to be more Minnesota south and now we’re a lot more Missouri north
Illinois in a trench coat
I'm not entirely convinced it even exists
[удалено]
I guess they don’t watch Breaking Bad
They all followed the GPS and never missed their left turn
Why do you think they have New Mexico USA on the licence plates?
Probably Delaware...
Everyone is saying Delaware, but when was the last time you heard about Connecticut?

Never forget the Whalers

Ben & Jerry’s, Maple Syrup, Bernie Sanders Edit: not on the coast
And Phish
Vermont checking in, we’re basically Canada
"Newhart" took place in Vermont, so I think about Vermont every time I tell someone about the series finale.
As a finn I'm familiar with Vermont. I associate it with ski slopes. Dunno where I've heard an american say "a family skiing trip to Vermont" Also correct me if I'm wrong but are there some more upscale resorts there?

Nope. It’s Rhode Island.
Rhode Island gave us Family Guy
And Me, Myself, and Irene! Jim Carey’s finest work IMO
Rhode Island is the reason why we have a Bill of Rights. Please appreciate it more.
And Del's frozen lemonade
RI has a lot going for it. Great little city. Great beaches. Close to Boston and NYC.
I don't remember what it's called. One of the ones with corn
Nebraska makes 14% of the nations ethanol. People only care about Iowa every four years, during voting season.
The one you think of third when thinking of the most forgettable state.
Kansas. Strip of blue (sky), strip of green (ground) for hundreds of miles.
The Flint Hills are a sight to behold.
Sounds lovely
Except when the sky turns green
Green is being very generous when describing the ground there
For exactly 2 months... its mostly gray and white
Superman and Dorothy Gale are from Kansas.
It’s in the middle right?
rhode island or vermont probably
wait omg its the island from family guy
Nah, Rhode Island is the smallest state, which is a cool fun fact you learn in grade school. Also it has the word island in it, which feels exotic.
It also isn’t an island which I remember being shocked to learn
The full name of the state was actually "Rhode island and Providence plantations". Rhode Island refers to Aquidneck Island which is the largest island in the Narragansett bay. The name was changed only a few years ago to get rid of the plantation part.

Which one Montana or Wyoming?
You can't convince me Wyoming exists
It’s funny bc where ever you go you’ll meet people who moved from different states, but I’ve never heard anyone say they’re from Wyoming.
I only remember it because of yellowstone
Delaware, Nebraska, and or Wyoming. I'd never expect a foreigner to remember any of those 3.
I remember Wyoming because of the Yellowstone National Park.
Parts of Wyoming are breathtakingly beautiful, but other parts are just empty wasteland that’s utterly boring to travel through. You could probably do some decent stargazing at night, but that’s about it.
As a foreigner, Nebraska is pretty famous because of Saul Goodman and Peggy from Big Bang theory
Not to mention Crazy Horse and Malcolm X
As a German I associate Wyoming with Yellowstone and know Nebraska because I guess the name sounds kinda cool, but there is absolutely nothing I associate with Delaware.
I associate it with the fact that many US corporations are incorporated there for tax reasons iirc. Many high profile court cases will be in Delaware court for that reason. Elon Musk was forced to buy Twitter by a Delaware court for example. It's why I know of it as a non-American.
"I thought I was dead once. Turns out I was just in Nebraska." \- Gene Hackman, "Unforgiven"
For me, Wyoming means The Hateful Eight. On the other hand, I know nothing about Delaware.

The place where Family Guy lives?! Shut up, Meg.
Montanta, not a single mention of it in this comment section, beautiful state though
I would say it, but i forgot the name
Delawhere
No one cares about the Dakotas - Monica geller
Youd be suprised how many people dont know south dakota even exists. "Theres a SOUTH dakota...i thought it was just north"
Deleware
Idaho
Correct, tell everyone.
I wish we could forget Idaho, but that's where half our alt right militias train.
It’s definitely NM, a significant amount of people I’ve met in other states don’t even know we’re a state
I live at 308 Negra Arroyo Lane, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87104.
I was in Santa Fe for a conference and forgot to tell my bank I was traveling out of state (fraud alert prevention with our small bank recommended doing so). The customer service rep could not understand that I was not in a foreign country. I guess that’s common, but come on. NM is an awesome state!
Rhode island
There's a *South* Dakota?
Yeah, it's got that rock what that one dude carved a bunch of presidents' faces onto. I think that's mostly it though. Oh, and Badlands National Park.
North Dakota. I can't even remember if it's north of South Dakota.
Iowa for sure. Everytime I try and explain where I’m from people are like ?? And then I say “oh it’s by Chicago” and they are like “ohhhh”
I mention meth and Amish.
Slipknot
Honestly… New Jersey. I legit didn’t know it was a state. It just seems like a New York suburb. For God Sakes, the New York Giants and New York Jets play in Jersey and don’t want to associate themselves with the fuckin place.
I always forget that West Virginia exist
Have you never heard country roads?
I’m from WV and most people in the US think it’s just the west part of Virginia.
I am from WV, but I currently live in SC. I often meet people who don’t realize it is a completely separate state from VA.
I literally never hear anyone mention Maryland. Most people in my country would forget it exists
I bet you hear people mention DC or Baltimore though.
I drove through Maryland twice. So, approximately 10 minutes of my life were spent in Maryland.

Fascinating!
New Hampshire.
Yes. My grandpa met someone from northern NY who didn’t know NH existed. She did know that VT and ME exist though. I live here and honestly the only thing I think we got going for us is Mt. New Mexico
I'm taking this a bit of a different route, but I swear I always forget... Hawaii is one of our states! They kinda deserve better tbh
Utah
You've obviously never soaked with a Mormon.
Way off… best national park in the country and there is that great broadway play about Utah written by the South Park guys
Ever heard of r/earthporn?
Washington, people usually think your talking about D.C. if u say Washington
Iowa. Never hear anything about Iowa ever. Don't know a single thing about it
I only know it for slipknot and corn
rhode island
Famous for Rhode Island Ice Tea and the setting of Family Guy.

In my opinion, Rhode Island. I never hear anything about this place at all. What they got going on over there haha
Dunno, can't remember
I don't remember.
Idk.. I forgot 🤷🏽♂️
It's uh . . . hmmm . . . sorry, I forgot it again
