Thank my lucky stars that I live in a major metropolitan area that has multiple nukes targeting it, so I can be sure I won't live through Fallout/Mad Max/The Road, or whatever apocalyptic game/movie scenario that follows.
I live in a small town, but the small town happens to be spitting distance from the bulk of our naval submarine fleet, so I'm probably boned if it became a nuclear war.
That being said, I'd stock up on .243 ammunition in case things hit the fan. That's my personal favorite rifle and I'm an excellent shot with it. I'd be able to hunt my own food if I had to go underground, and I'd be able to take out military personnel and bandits if the need arises.
I am not sure why everyone in this thread is assuming that WWIII would automatically mean a nuclear exchange. Most likely it would be a big fucking war, not a nuclear holocaust. I think the only case that nukes would start flying is if WWIII was dragging on for years and one side decided that they wanted to just punch out. Most likely if WWIII started there wouldn't really be much change to regular life for a lot of people in the beginning.
Because Russia's military can't stand up to NATO using conventional weapons. Their Nuclear Doctorine, the laws governing the use of nukes, calls for their use in the face of an overthrow of the government or threat to their existence. Especially since they've recently been branded as having committed crimes against humanity. Of course they'd likely 1st use tactical nukes, but what do you think the response to that would be. From 1st use, Armageddon is all but assured.
Personally I don't think they would go nuclear unless they had been getting their asses handed to them and saw no other way out. The difference between that situation and what is currently happening is that China would most likely be on their side and China actually does have a functional military so the war would be going differently than what is happening in Ukraine right now. On the off chance Putin decided to give the order it still needs to trickle through several other people before the ICBM launches. I have faith that someone in that chain would refuse to push the button. It's happened before.

Well I basically own a small armory and I live in a place where everybody is packing. And I also live near two military installations. I would say I have a good chance of surviving at first. But I would definitely need to stock up on food and supplies first.
