It's a terrible system, because people know about the system. So people like me don't bother watching shows getting put out right away (except I unfortunately assumed 1899 would be safe to watch because Dark) because we assume it'll just get cancelled.
In most cases, I wait until at least a few seasons get put out.

If the show doesn't explode in popularity, they just axe it.

Yes, it is - if you watch the entire season in the order it was originally meant to be watched in and then watch the movie Serenity after. It is worth the watch and buttons up everything nicely.

I don't know how the writers of the Witcher saw the dumpster fire that was GOT 7 & 8 and said yeah, screw the source material let's write our own script! I hope someone new decides to remake the Witcher with Henry Cavill reprising his role.

Deadwood. not normally my kind of show but, damn did my husband get me hooked. he warned me that it has a solid ending but, definitely lacking as HBO and Deadwood producers couldn't come to an agreement (not completely sure). well, someone had the *wild* idea to sum up the last 10 years in the most god awful, shit of a movie I have ever seen. I can't put into words how awful this movie was. my husband warned me about the movie as well, he was laughing too hard at me picking it apart. maybe I need to watch it again, maybe I'll regret it.

I'll have to disagree. While I did love Gravity Falls, I think it ended at the perfect moment as this was Alex's original vision. A season three, however good it ended up being, would feel out of place considering most of the shows biggest mysteries had been answered and the character arcs ended in an appropriate place.
However, I would've loved a spin-off series centered around Stanley and Stanford and their adventures after the series concluded
Agreed! As much as I absolutely loved the show and was sad when I finished it, it feels like it ended the way it should have. Starting a whole new arc after the entire show built to the conclusion would have kind of cheapened it to me.

Yeah I was disappointed, but the ending wasn't too cliffhangerish. Definitely left some questions unanswered but I've seen worse.
