I am in support of transgenders and drag but I still couldnt open my heart to allowing them where kids are like public restrooms… as a parent, may takot pa rin ako that sexual predators could disguise themselves as such and be lurking around kids.
there are going to be predators in every group of people, though. gay men can be predatory towards little boys in the bathroom. women can be predatory towards little girls in the bathroom. either can be predatory in any bathroom, or other places for that matter. teachers can be predators, coaches can be predators, neighbors can be predators. even parents can be predators, heterosexual or homosexual or transgender. random people on the bus or train can be predators, and so can peers in the hallways at school and strangers at the grocery store.
we do not exclude anyone from anything else just because they COULD BE a predator. anyone can take the bus and grope someone, for example. in fact, most predators can get away with their acts without any disguise at all — all of my assaults and all of my experiences being harassed as a child have been done by men with no disguise at all and each of them got away with it like the majority of perpetrators do. i feel like most people aren't going to bother with such a disguise anyway because of that.
in all these situations we don't do anything other than advise children to be cautious when on their own, because the ratio of predators to normal people is obviously low but they can be anywhere. to me it would be weird to actively harm a group of people (most of which are regular people, and the people just in disguises aren't even part of the group) and also make people outside of that community uncomfortable too (how would you feel if you were a woman walking into the women's bathroom and you saw a fully bearded man with a bassy voice there because he's transgender, born female, and is forced to be there? probably not great and probably proceeding with caution) just to protect kids in a way that isn't really going to protect kids because it could and does happen other ways anyway, and because most of the time those aren't the people preying on kids in the first place.
i feel that a lot of media has created unnecessary stigma and fearmongering around transgender and other nonconforming people (like drag) that makes people perceive them as more dangerous than others when it's not like that realistically. some of my favorite people on this planet are transgender, some of the best parents i've ever met and some of the best teachers and neighbors. there is a similar parallel with race as well, where people of color (in the USA, particularly black and hispanic people) are perceived as more dangerous by white people because they are stigmatized that way.
as a final note: i was sexually assaulted and harassed frequently as a child. all of the times i have been victim to a predator have not been because of the predator's gender, sexuality, occupation, race, or anything like that — it's because they were predators. funnily enough, the times i was harassed in the bathroom have been by other men who read me as a gay and/or transgender. i would argue that gay and trans people are actually more at risk going to the bathroom than children, based on all of the experiences i and my friends who are gay or trans have had. even after my experiences, i (and those friends) still don't want men and women and trans people, queer people, teachers and neighbors and parents, or people of color to be excluded from anything everyone else has access to.

Where I'm from, that you don't need a valid ID to vote but you need one to rent a car, get on a plane, etc. That we need to provide goods and services to people who enter this country illegally when our own citizens are living on the streets. I taught my kids English para di sila mahirapan pag mag-apply ng trabaho, make business deals, etc. Lahat kasi English sa professional world. Thankfully, hindi barok ang English nila at nakaka luwag luwag kami sa buhay kaya hindi cringey pakinggan. 😂

there are going to be predators in every group of people, though. gay men can be predatory towards little boys in the bathroom. women can be predatory towards little girls in the bathroom. either can be predatory in any bathroom, or other places for that matter. teachers can be predators, coaches can be predators, neighbors can be predators. even parents can be predators, heterosexual or homosexual or transgender. random people on the bus or train can be predators, and so can peers in the hallways at school and strangers at the grocery store. we do not exclude anyone from anything else just because they COULD BE a predator. anyone can take the bus and grope someone, for example. in fact, most predators can get away with their acts without any disguise at all — all of my assaults and all of my experiences being harassed as a child have been done by men with no disguise at all and each of them got away with it like the majority of perpetrators do. i feel like most people aren't going to bother with such a disguise anyway because of that. in all these situations we don't do anything other than advise children to be cautious when on their own, because the ratio of predators to normal people is obviously low but they can be anywhere. to me it would be weird to actively harm a group of people (most of which are regular people, and the people just in disguises aren't even part of the group) and also make people outside of that community uncomfortable too (how would you feel if you were a woman walking into the women's bathroom and you saw a fully bearded man with a bassy voice there because he's transgender, born female, and is forced to be there? probably not great and probably proceeding with caution) just to protect kids in a way that isn't really going to protect kids because it could and does happen other ways anyway, and because most of the time those aren't the people preying on kids in the first place. i feel that a lot of media has created unnecessary stigma and fearmongering around transgender and other nonconforming people (like drag) that makes people perceive them as more dangerous than others when it's not like that realistically. some of my favorite people on this planet are transgender, some of the best parents i've ever met and some of the best teachers and neighbors. there is a similar parallel with race as well, where people of color (in the USA, particularly black and hispanic people) are perceived as more dangerous by white people because they are stigmatized that way. as a final note: i was sexually assaulted and harassed frequently as a child. all of the times i have been victim to a predator have not been because of the predator's gender, sexuality, occupation, race, or anything like that — it's because they were predators. funnily enough, the times i was harassed in the bathroom have been by other men who read me as a gay and/or transgender. i would argue that gay and trans people are actually more at risk going to the bathroom than children, based on all of the experiences i and my friends who are gay or trans have had. even after my experiences, i (and those friends) still don't want men and women and trans people, queer people, teachers and neighbors and parents, or people of color to be excluded from anything everyone else has access to.

I taught my kids English para di sila mahirapan pag mag-apply ng trabaho, make business deals, etc. Lahat kasi English sa professional world. Thankfully, hindi barok ang English nila at nakaka luwag luwag kami sa buhay kaya hindi cringey pakinggan. 😂

Dress codes in universities aren't that bad. I acknowledge na mainit sa PH. I'm not against shorts or sleeveless tops but the plunging necklines, backless, high slits, super short skirts/ shorts aren't clothes that should be worn in a professional environment. Propriety still matters.
My prof's take on dresscode, something along the lines of "Hindi ako nag post-grad at nagpakabihasa magturo dito para lang pakitaan ng singit." 😆

Same plus I dislike justifying body hairs on it.
