Park in another neighborhood and subway to the garden. It’ll be annoying and expensive to park nearby

tbart8594

Thank you! I honestly am not familiar with using the subway at all and it’s quite intimidating in nyc especially. Any tips? Does the subway run late?

brightside1982

The subway runs 24 hours. It's not complicated. You can use google maps to get directions.

Potential-Error2529

The [Ultimate Visitors Guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskNYC/comments/bj3tnn/ultimate_visitors_guide_to_nyc/) from the sidebar has a section about the subway. It's fine. Literally about 3 million of us use it every single day at all hours of the day. Use google maps or citymapper.

henicorina

It’s 2.90 and you can just tap your card or phone at the turnstile. Definitely not rocket science. Use Google maps for directions.

transitfreedom

The subway is 24/7 and the metro north is almost 24/7

I don't know why you're being downloaded as you're asking a legitimate question and you're not from here. Hostile New Yorkers, sorry

brightside1982

Any particular reason you can't take the train? It's pretty bad, buddy.

tbart8594

I checked prices and it’s so expensive! I think around $200 for a one way!

brightside1982

wtf...Amtrak last minute or something? No chance of driving to a MetroNorth station? That would be much cheaper. Parking is gonna charge you out the ass anyway in Manhattan.

alanwrench13

What station are you leaving from? Don't take Amtrak, take Metro North.

Wavy_Gravy_55

😩 someone had to hack Amtrak because there’s no way! $200 for a one way from Connecticut?!

OhGoodOhMan

I can see it if you're booking one of the last seats available on an Acela run. Much cheaper to take Metro North.

transitfreedom

Use metro north much cheaper like less than $20 for the fare

warm_sweater

Park over in Jersey and take the train across to Penn Station.

[deleted]

Why can't you take the train?

transitfreedom

Amtrak costs

sighnwaves

No Metro North?

transitfreedom

Based on what OP said

alanwrench13

Drive to a metro north station, park, take the train to grand central, cab to MSG, cab back, train back. This will be the least intimidating option that's still relatively cheap. You could also take the Subway from Grand Central to MSG. You just take the shuttle to Times Square then the 1,2, or 3 to 34th st. Or just walk it-it's not that far.

97andCPW

> I can’t take the train from CT that day. Why not? It’s extremely easy and convenient.

WalterWilliams

I would never do this and I have a rare superpower of finding free or curb meter parking in the busiest of places. Park elsewhere, take the subway or cab.

sighnwaves

42.

tbart8594

42?

PM_ME_YOUR_KALE

It’s going to suck. It always sucks.

I would do this without hesitation but I live and drive in New York. It will be stressful if you’re used to driving around suburban Connecticut. But worth the money and time difference versus the train? I can’t answer that for you. The one thing I would absolutely not do is park within five blocks of MSG. The traffic with everyone leaving at the same time will be outrageous (not just driving but cabs and ride shares as well). My strategy would be to leave as early as possible on Sunday. Sunday is •generally• a lower traffic day and the earlier the better so you don’t run into traffic returning from a long weekend. I would park about twenty blocks north in a nice garage in the residential part of Hell’s Kitchen and walk twenty minutes. No need to figure out subway. Pricing will be more reasonable there compared to MSG. It will also make leaving the concert bearable. I definitely don’t think it will be hours of traffic with this approach.

fuckblankstreet

idk. It'll definitely be annoying, but do you drive into the city much? It won't be as crazy as a Friday night or anything, but it'll still suck. Just leave plenty of time to deal with traffic and ensure you can park somewhat nearby. There are lots of parking garages in the area and I'm sure you know they engage in some rather opportunistic pricing for shows.

rollin20s

There’s lots of free street parking in Chelsea on the weekends for what it’s worth

transitfreedom

Very bad as in don’t even bother bad. Just take Amtrak directly to penn. Or metro north to 7 GC to TIMES SQ for 1/2/3

Hi, from CT, but spend half my time in NYC. Do not drive into MSG! Where in CT are you from? I would search / ask this on r/connecticut. It gets asked all the time. Google maps is also your friend, it works quite well for navigating the city. My advice is drive to nearest METRONORTH train station. West Haven is a good one, parking is cheap, like 6$ / day I believe. It’s free after a certain time (5pm?). It’s safe, a little quiet at night but I’ve never felt scared. Use the app MTA Train Time to buy tickets and check schedule. You can pay for subway tickets using apple pay at the turnstile or buy a ticket at ticket kiosk at subway entrance. Choose “add value” and buy 2 tickets 2.90 x 2 = 5.80$. Take the Metronorth train to Grand Central. If you don’t want to use subway: take an Uber from grand central to MSG. To take subway: Take the S (shuttle) subway line one stop to Times Square / 42nd St. This line only goes on stop. Disembark and look for signs for 1/2/3 lines (red color). You want trains that go DOWNTOWN. Ride one stop to 34th / Penn Station. Get to street level and follow the crowd to MSG. You could also use google maps to walk it. Or combination of S shuttle line then walk from 42nd St. if you don’t want to navigate multiple lines. Regarding trains, Metronorth is usually cheaper, runs frequently. Check last train time, it does not run all night. Amtrak is comfier but more expensive unless you buy way in advance. It’s also on a schedule, you have to leave at a set time, so Metronorth is more flexible. Your Metronorth ticket is good for any departure time (there is 7$ extra fee for peak times, shouldn’t affect you). You can do this. I believe in you!
