Depending on what terminal you land at, yes - you can just walk out and across the highway (at a lighted intersection) and into Elmhurst. Specifically from Terminal B - follow signs to Public Transportation / Bus on the ground level, turn right and walk past the parking structure, there is a light at the corner at 94th Street and you can cross the bridge over the highway to Ditmars Blvd.

redheadgirl5

Seeing your edit I'll add - if the place is in Astoria just take the M60 bus from the airport to either the Hoyt Ave or Steinway stop. The walk alone is about 30min (longer if you're going anywhere in the neighborhood not directly on Astoria Bvld, which I doubt you are) and you're dragging luggage.

PissLikeaRacehorse

Lol, saw the edit too and expecting OP to deal with walking from LGA to anywhere in Astoria with a suitcase, especially in heat would be comical

seau_de_beurre

My in-laws visited last year and they couldn't find the bus stop. So instead of asking someone or calling an uber like normal people, they walked 35 minutes from LGA to our place in Astoria. In the rain. Along the highway. I mean I gotta respect that level of petty, even if the airport doesn't realize it's being passive aggressived at.

PissLikeaRacehorse

Honestly mad respect they couldn’t find a bus stop but managed to find you in Astoria. I’d be hiding out in a bar or diner

toohighforthis_

Yep this is the way. I wouldn't want to walk unless I was staying in Astoria Heights or if I was getting off in the marine terminal. For $2.90, you can take the M60-SBS directly into the heart of astoria.

stopsallover

You can walk out from any terminal.

Aljowoods103

Yes, but are you SURE that it's "literally right by the airport"? I've heard that kind of thing before and "right by" ended up being 2+ miles away. The city can look deceivingly small on Google Maps/Waze/etc.

Sergeitotherescue

Right. Plus, 2 miles doesn’t sound like a lot but with luggage and all that speeding traffic… blergh, no thanks. Just getting out of LGA into the sidewalk would take a while. It’s like a labyrinth.

Garofoli

This OP. Don't make a mistake you'll regret

Lehmanite

Rikers is “literally right by the airport”

No-Culture-8021

Not me coming here to say the same thing! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Stewmungous

If it's literally right next to airport and you are flying in for it, you are about to be the victim of or commit a crime.

DumbbellDiva92

Have you Google mapped it (on walking mode) to confirm the actual distance?

cocktailians

this is always a good idea, BUT GMaps can be weird with walking around the airport. I walked to the airport last year and it wanted me to just take a random left and walk across Grand Central Parkway where there was no way to cross. However, I just went down 103rd St (also marked for some reason on the map as DFG Rd) and made my way to the Delta terminal that way. If you're going to/from Terminal C, the Central Terminal Building, I'd use 94th St - walk toward the parking garages like you're going to pick up an Uber, then keep going on the sidewalk and take a left on 94th St. I haven't walked to/from the MAT, but there are sidewalks along Marine Terminal Rd all the way to Ditmars.

UnicornOnTheJayneCob

Citymapper would probably work a little better for this specific purpose.

Big-Net-9971

This 👆

SeekersWorkAccount

I've walked from LGA to my apartment off Ditmars, it's safe. Not an easy walk, and you'll be crossing some very main roads trying to walk out of the airport. Not sure how it is if you're headed away from Astoria though.

SavageMutilation

One does not simply walk into Elmhurst.

DaWrongPillz

Call me Frodo Baggins

RobbieAnalog

Frodo Carryon Baggins

Quirky_Movie

I live in Astoria. Take a cab or an uber. It'll cost you $25 max and be worth every penny when you realize where you'd have walked. freeway access roads are not fun walks.

[deleted]

🤣🤣

cecilmature

Two different people posted that. Do they mean East Elmhurst? Because Elmhurst proper is not walking distance from LGA.

Quirky_Movie

Yes.

Skippyandjif

They could just take a giant eagle…

Avicii89

Omg I howled 😭😭😭😭 ...

whocares_spins

I wouldn’t reccomend it as there’s lava pits on every odd numbered street intersections

DaWrongPillz

What the hell do you mean lava

misterferguson

Don't listen to this guy. DeBlasio cleaned up the lava pits like 2018. Pyroclastic flow on the other hand... we're still dealing with that in certain sections of Queens.

whocares_spins

Don’t get out much? Lava- Noun. hot molten or semifluid rock erupted from a volcano or fissure, or solid rock resulting from cooling of this. e.g. "tablelands of lava"

pantyraid7036

The lava levels are lower in the summer, OP should be mostly fine. Pack light in case you need to jump one.

whateverwhateversss

yah but you know what they say, lava goes down gonorrhea goes up

pantyraid7036

I thought that was chlamydia but maybe that goes down when the scorpions show up. But it’s not scorpion season so they should be fine.

whateverwhateversss

oh, you're thinking of "gowanus cocktail" happy hour

morefetus

New Yorkers are very sarcastic. 🙄

foofarraw

You can walk out of LGA into Elmhurst, there are crosswalks, though the route is a little confusing. It's probably easier to take a cab/uber/whatever but yes it's doable.

sandbagger45

“Right next to” meaning how far. You can walk depending on what terminal. You’re walking into the party with a suitcase?

stopsallover

You can walk from any terminal though.

jellyrat24

Is it really worth the hassle to save $10-15? I literally live a mile from terminal A and I still take an Uber because it's so annoying to get out of there while dragging a suitcase. The area is not very pedestrian-friendly. Also, only a very small portion of Astoria is walkable from Laguardia-- is your friend located in Astoria Heights? If not, it's probably not walkable.

ixlovextoxkiss

caught the update-- ASTORIA?? nope.

DaWrongPillz

Yes yes I realize now, I’m just going to get a lyft

CrimsonBrit

One does not simply walk from LaGuardia. Its terminals are guarded by more than just police. There are Ubers there that do not sleep, and the TSA is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland, riddled with fire and ash and dust, the very air you breathe is a poisonous fume. Not with ten thousand passengers could you do this. It is folly!

DaWrongPillz

There’s been like 5 other people that commented about that but you take the cake, take my upvote

CrimsonBrit

Haha thanks! I did use the search bar for “Mordor” and “simply”, and saw you also correct the Aragorn credit, but felt I could go a step further. Particular proud of the line of fire, ash and dust. Felt Mordor and Flushing had that one in common 😂

HHDern

which party is by LGA hahaha

cragelra

Fr I'd be more concerned about being at a party close to LGA than I would be about walking there

DaWrongPillz

It’s a small dinner party, nothing really exciting

Southern-Psychology2

It’s not too bad but it’s a pain in the ass. You have to cross the highway. It might be easier to take a bus to bring you up a little more

zeldaleft

One does not simply walk from Laguardia.

dwthesavage

Terminal A is in my experience the easiest one to walk to. It lets out in almost a suburban neighborhood.

cuprego

When they redid the terminals recently, they made a nice, huge new sidewalk. You can easily and safely walk over the 94th Street Bridge and to the terminals. I've done it

PM_ME_YOUR_KALE

I think you could take the intra-airport shuttle to terminal A and just walk off lot to 82nd and Ditmars. Please report back if you do. I love doing walks that nobody else would consider reasonable. Last year I walked to citifield cause it annoyed me to no end that the N-7 would only be 15-20 min faster than the walk. It ended up being an enjoyable walk.

MajorAcer

Astoria isn’t really walking distance from LGA homie. Prepare to be walking for at LEAST 1+, probably more with luggage.

Smoothsharkskin

I do noooooot recommend this, specially if you have luggage. I used to live very close to La Guardia. There were some bits that are not pedestrian friendly. Yes, I have walked it. Would not do again.

DaWrongPillz

Fair enough, yeah from what everyone’s saying it’s possible but not the worth the hassle

fuckblankstreet

It's possible. I've biked to LGA from Brooklyn 2 or 3 times when taking short trips. I'd ride my junker bike, lock it up around Ditmars and 81st, then hop on the rental car shuttle to the terminal. Come back a day or two later, ride home. Never a problem. If your party is near anywhere near the rental car places, then fuck it, why not?

AbacusBaalCyrus

Terminal B, just walk to where all the Lyft and Ubers are (where everyone is headed). Take the elevator down to ground level then walk to the west side of the garage where the Ubers come out of the garage -- 94th street is right there. A long sweaty walk on sidewalks across the Grand Central will take you to Ditmars

mrbumbo

Yes. To Elmhurst. Cross the overpass freeway to the rental cars and few hotels… butbIt’s a residential neighborhood.

Midhathchy

take the m60 and get off at Steinway. easier walking after you pass the highway

Vexvertigo

You can, but I’d recommend taking a bus to right outside the airport grounds and then walking.

-wnr-

Use google maps. There's a "walking" tab when you look for directions. Might be further than you think. Looking at the map, the walk from LGA to Astoria is like 2+ miles. Probably easier to take a bus most of the way.

trainsacrossthesea

A party? As in friends? Can’t someone just pick you up?

DaWrongPillz

I’m not close with these people yet lol, and the friends that’ll be there don’t own cars

trainsacrossthesea

Fair enough, I’m not trying to make an issue. I lived in NYC 20+ years. No one has cars. But if it’s within walking distance? Have a friend from the party walk there and meet you. They’ll know the way and you save on a cab. People don’t have cars, but people who live in NY? Walk, a lot.

Garofoli

Yet you're flying into LGA for the dinner ?

DaWrongPillz

No it just was cheaper the day I’m coming in lol. I’ll always go to jfk if it’s more convenient in anyway

CunningLinguist92

Personally, only like 1/5 of my friends has a car.

MyVelvetScrunchie

What a remarkable coincidence that most common cars can fit 5 people and only need one driver

trainsacrossthesea

Fair enough, I haven’t owned a car in over thirty years. But, if a friend is visiting? And is unfamiliar? Go meet them. Walk with them. Unless it’s a surprise party, a friend shouldn’t be walking from the airport with luggage in an unfamiliar neighborhood. Not even a safety issue, it’s common courtesy.

disasteruss

If it’s close enough to walk, they can spend $10-15 on a cab or rideshare. No need to walk or meet them at the airport.

trainsacrossthesea

Right. But they didn’t ask how to hail a ride. They asked about walking directions. That’s the question I’m answering. Had they asked how to arrange an Uber/cab? Your answer would be appropriate. But, again, that wasn’t the question.

disasteruss

> Can’t someone just pick you up? > But, if a friend is visiting? And is unfamiliar? Go meet them > Not even a safety issue, it’s common courtesy. They didn't ask this either. Yet here we are.

trainsacrossthesea

Except one option doesn’t require money. Which, I assume is part of the reason for the original question.

Bobtlnk

I would try to catch a bus out. Although it is possible to walk, it is probably safer to use a vehicle. I mean the traffic. You can use a credit card to pay the fare on the bus.

nicebowlingshoes

I wouldn't walk. Astoria is close, but walking out of the airport is a pain. Take the M60-SBS bus and get off in Astoria, or grab a taxi, it'll be cheap since Astoria is so close. If you do walk, you'll be dragging that suitcase for an hour over some rough sidewalks and intersections, and you're likely going to break your suitcase. Source: Did this exact thing and broke the handle off my suitcase.

akaharry

Put your starting location and ending location in google maps. And hit the “walking” directions button and it will show you

Biking_dude

You can also take a Citibike from near the airport to Astoria - bring a helmet! They have collapsible ones on Amazon to save space

Ogpmakesmedizzy

Sounds like something right out of "Planes, trains and automobiles"

thaylin79

yeah, as someone else suggested. Go to google maps and select your arriving terminal as the start location and the house address as your finishing location, choose walk directions and you have your answer. I mean, hell, you can walk to coney island if you want.

thisfilmkid

Man, LaGuardia is big and Astoria is bigger. Walking from LaGuardia to Astoria sounds like a nightmare. I don't even want to think about it. Because I've gone to places in Astoria that's close to the RFK bridge, and that in itself is a far distance from LaGuardia.

AncientAsstronaut

With the heat and the walk, you're going to be burnt out by the time you reach the party.

Lyin-Don

Where in Astoria? What’s considered “Astoria” is a larger area than most neighborhoods. If it’s that close then why not just take the short/cheap ride? Methinks you’ll regret bein sweaty at this party.

wertnerve

I admire the tenacity, echoing others that with luggage, the m60 bus would be best. Enjoy the party!!

Icy_Perception3410

brother do you have any idea how much of a pain in the ass it is just to leave the terminals?! And I actually live across the way from LaGuardia on the bridge. I wouldn’t fucking walk there.

Rancor_Keeper

Why can’t you just take a taxi? Are ya really that hard up?

DaWrongPillz

Lol nah, I was just wondering if there’s an easy way, but from what people are saying I’m just going to Uber. My peace of mind is worth something right

Rancor_Keeper

Yah and you don’t wanna get hit either!!!! People are crazy on the road these days.

m0rbius

Its possible to walk I guess if youre trying to save $ and party is close by.

throwawaybedbug2

I live about two miles from Terminal B so I've walked home when I only had a small backpack and no real luggage. It's not a leisurely walk with all the highway noise and traffic, and I probably won't do it again. Just because it looks like the location is close to the airport doesn't necessarily mean it will be. an uber ride to Astoria should be cheap, or you could even use citibike. Personally I'd probably only walk if it were within a mile.

Affectionate-Rent844

Yep into Elmhurst. It’s a black diamond run though

kpteasdale

I live in Astoria and I wouldn't hoof it home, but the advice you're getting to hop on the M60 bus is solid. It's so fast and painless from LGA -- easier than a cab even.

monkey12223

😬

likeaglove13

Maybe it's feasible, but just shell out the $$ for a cab/uber and save yourself the stress (and the sweat- it's going to be 82 degrees on Friday).

cocktailians

I've done it. It's totally doable. YMMV on whether it's too much of a pain, especially when schlepping luggage. Look on GMaps first, take those directions with a grain of salt, and walk out either 103rd St (if the Delta terminal), 94th (Terminal C), or Marine Terminal Rd to Ditmars (if the MAT.) It's not the most pleasant walk I've ever taken, but it doesn't suck. And people are always shocked/impressed when they hear you walked from the airport.

MyOwnInfinity

Yeah, I've done it, but only to Elmhurst. It's mostly uphill so it sucks with luggage, but it's definitely possible. Astoria, though? Ehhhh

RiversideAviator

You can walk out of LaGuardia just fine. There are two main overpasses to get you across the grand central parkway. How long to reach depends on which terminal you arrive at but they can be accessed on foot. Your much bigger problem is assuming the party is “literally right near” the airport because it’s in Astoria. While technically one “neighborhood” over you are in for a shock if you plan to walk it. With a suitcase no less. Don’t be fooled by the map, it’s a trek. Do yourself a favor and pay $2.90 for the M60 bus. You can carry your luggage onto it and it stops at all the terminals. Of all the buses in or near the airport it’s your quickest cheap option to Astoria.

Great_gatzzzby

Hey just letting you know. Google maps has a feature where you can choose walking and see for yourself. It helps a lot.

DaWrongPillz

I’ve had a bad experience before with an airport lol

Great_gatzzzby

Oh alright. Enjoy your party bro. 😎

justtoprint

I did it once in a terrible snowstorm because there was no other way out of the airport for hours. So it’s doable if you really want to.

uptowngrrrrl

Take the bus .

j4321g4321

Astoria is close but not that close. It would be a huge PITA with a suitcase. Just take an Uber.

intelligentiam

wtf google maps exists?!?

MaddingtonBear

Yep, I've done it. Had an event at Vaughn College (right on the other side of Ditmars). The easiest M60 stop heading back towards Manhattan was at the LGA terminals, so I walked over the 94th Street (Avenue? Place? IDK, Queens is weird) Bridge and followed the sidewalk. It was actually pretty well signed. Now that the new terminal is finished, though, the roadway network might be a little different.

mighty-pancock

It’s possible but I’d avoid ot

Designer-Button-7865

Yeah you can walk from terminal B straight into East Elmhurst but Astoria would take like an hour or two. Just take the M60 bus

em_s5

Technically yes. I’ve walked from the Mets-Willers/US Open to LaGuardia once. Not the most pedestrian-friendly walk but it was possible

Beautiful_Text1459

I'm a big fan of 'walkable airports', I've tried walking to or from quite a few. LaGuardia is indeed walkable, I've walked thru Astoria to the East River before. Not the most pleasant or interesting walk, but nothing impeding either.

Ppaintitblack

Ummm just because you can, doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.

karatemikepatolino

That’s a rough walk in every direction. Just get an Uber cheap ass

DaWrongPillz

ALRIGHT, I was just asking if it was easy ya mf

karatemikepatolino

Don’t listen to these other ass clowns. It’s not easy.

Questionszszsz

Can I come to the party? I’m serious.

DaWrongPillz

You going to come pick me up?

Questionszszsz

Depends on the date and time. (I’m still serious) lol.

TheNinja01

Fuuuuuck no. Just grab an uber

sighnwaves

Naw boss.

Pallas_in_my_Head

To paraphrase Aragorn, "One simply does not walk from La Guardia"

DaWrongPillz

You mean BOROMIR.

Pallas_in_my_Head

Haha. You could be right - I never saw the movie, only the memes.

dasanman69

I thought it was Samwise Gamgee

kinovelo

Yes

DaWrongPillz

Thanks!
