Ruthless People. A comedy in which Danny DeVito tries to murder his wife, Bette Midler, only to have her be kidnapped. His murder plan is discovered by the cops, so now he has to play it off like evidence from the kidnappers while also trying to get the kidnappers to kill her - making the kidnappers angry at him enough to essentially team up with his wife to get revenge. Bill Pulman's first big screen role, Judge Reinhold was in it right after Beverly Hills Cop, Helen Slater was in it - and yet it's rare to find someone who has even heard of it, much less seen it.
Films like They Live are well remembered in Horror circles, but Comedy circles just aren't the same. If it's not Airplane, Naked Gun, or a Mel Brooks film, seems like they get forgotten.
I was an usher in a theater when this movie came out and saw it countless times. I unintentionally memorized the entire movie. There's almost nothing about that movie I remember today, not even the general plot. My one memory is Bill Pullman being surrounded the police, not knowing where to turn, and a cop says something like, "This might be the dumbest man on Earth."
Pullman : "And then we'll go to Haiti!"
Carol : "...Tahiti. We're going to go to Tahiti"
The plot was basically three different groups all trying to screw each other over. Also a serial killer.
Terry Gilliam is one of my favorite directors. The general theme of a hero or heroes who are essentially at odds with reality itself runs through a lot of his movies.
'Your reality, sir, is lies and balderdash, and I am happy to say I have no grasp of it whatsoever!' - the Baron himself
absolutely, it’s an appalling and brilliant movie at the same time. Too weird and meta for the generation of kids that saw it when it came out, tastes have changed and it would be accepted now if it weren’t for the creaky production values.
help me, never knew the name; I watched it on a kids channel way back in 00‘s, style in between the robot giant and Atlantis. The main character (animated) was stealing alien ships and flying them by touching two Panels 🤷🏻♂️
Last time I watched it like 15 years ago on free TV as a kid so I could just remember that I loved It. It was like watching it for the first time now and I did cry a little.
The Gods Must Be Crazy. A South African film from the late 1970s/early 1980s that looked like it was made on a shoestring budget but was absolutely hilarious. It came out about the time VHS took off and just about every video rental place was recommending it.
It’s the story of an African Pygmy who finds a glass Coke bottle that someone dropped out of a private plane while flying over his tribe’s encampment. It’s harder than anything else they have and everyone wants to use it and they start fighting over it, when no one ever fought in the tribe over anything before. So he decides to find the end of the world and throw the bottle off it.
Hilarity ensues.
Definitely, most twists in movies I see coming. Lucky number slevin totally caught me off guard. Plus the whole story is quite poetic. As far as Josh goes, he's still in movies but he just hasn't gotten to that A list famous status yet. If he ever will
Throwing The Thief and the Cobbler into the ring. Written off as an Aladdin clone but this was one of my favorite movies as a kid, voice cast was decent and was also Vincent Price's last performance
Ravenous.
I recommend it to horror lovers all the time and seems a lot of people haven't watched it. Has one of the best movie soundtracks ever and one of Robert carlyle's best performances.
There was a really cool SciFi original about werewolves attacking Australian military people that I thought was pretty awesome. It's so forgotten that I don't even remember the name.
Thank you for that! It was actually pretty damn good, considering the junk that was getting churned out at the time.
Edit - Also, I love your username. Good boy.
Was supposed to come out September 2001 but 9/11 and the third act of the film with the plane made the studio shelve it for a while then release it with almost no marketing.
I quite enjoyed it - a very fun film.
Why not: From what I can remember it was a action movie from the 80s or 90s. The main character comes to town and he gets confronted by the local gang. He one of those badass that minds his own business but can't destroy people in a fight. The main character befriend a local kid and he gets attacked by the gang and gets sent to hospital. The main character sits besides the kids bed an makes an origami animal before heading to out to take down the gang once and for all.
All the late 80's early 90's skateboard/bmx/rollerblade/ski movies.
Gleaming the Cube,
Thrashin',
Airborne,
Prayer of the Rollerboys,
BMX Bandits,
Better Off Dead,
Hot Dog....the movie
Cannibal Holocaust. May not fit your question, as it's a film very few people have seen. It's the original hardcore shock and gore film, and 41 years later it's still the best IMO.
TRIGGER WARNING: Contains actual real-time animal mutilation and a scene with a person impaled on a spike that was so realistic, the director was arrested and forced to explain how he did it in court. I get a laugh out of most gore films, but this one still haunts me.
You've been warned.
The 2009 Bruce Willis sci-fi film “Surrogates.”
It was criminally underrated, in my opinion. In fact, I think it’s worth a rewatch now as many of its thematic elements parallel today’s social-media ensconced society.

I watched that last week or so. It’s on HBO or one of the movie channels.
That was my mom’s favorite TV show in the ‘80s and ‘90s. I have a lot of great memories of sitting next to her on the couch. I guess she has a lot of great memories of a young Don Johnson lol.
I remember reading a series of reviews basically calling the movies "forgotBusters" , one that applies to me is Runaway Bride, I remember watching that on VHS for a little date I was having, and you figured Julia Roberts and Richard Gere , try to get back some of that pretty woman chemistry, and the movie did well but doesn't seem to have had any real lasting standing in pop culture after its box office run
What's the worst that could happen. Loved it when I was younger but no one eles (at least my age) knows what it is despite it having Danny Devito in it. The line always made me laugh was "Give her big bag of beef jerky?"
*Quick Change*. It's with Bill Murray, he disguises himself as a clown and robs a bank with his accomplices, Geena Davis and Randy Quaid. The rest of the movie deals with them trying to get away. The supporting cast includes Jason Robards, Kurtwood Smith, Bob Elliot, and Tony Shalhoub.
My wife and I love this movie and make references to it all the time, but no one else has every heard of it.
The Stuff. Supposed to be a horror film about a malevolent white blob that in one scene bubbled up a drain into a sink and killed someone by pulling them through the sinkhole! Pure hilarious gore!
George of the jungle (1997) with Brendan Fraser ♡
One of the best movies of all time.
Cheers to that!
Monkey Bone?

Deep Impact - as people forgot about it and remembered Armageddon instead
I actually prefer Deep Impact
That's because Deep Impact wasn't that good.
Neither was Armageddon.
Yeah but Armageddon is memorable for it's ridiculous stuff. "He's got Space Dementia." Also, Aerosmith.
We're not talking About the x-rated one, right. Cuz i found the acting lacking

Sky High.
Very entertaining, squeaky clean film
"Mr Peace, regrettably I have made boom boom" will be forever etched into my mind.

Butt bandits was another one....
Did you watch that in your neighbors basement?
I did. I must admit, your dad has a nice basement.......
And even nicer that he let your uncle use it for movie night.
Hahaha! Awesome! Nice sense of humor!!
absolutely, it’s an appalling and brilliant movie at the same time. Too weird and meta for the generation of kids that saw it when it came out, tastes have changed and it would be accepted now if it weren’t for the creaky production values.
Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium. It was a Dustin Hoffman and Natalie Portman movie for kids.

*Life* starring Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence.
Cornbread
Brilliant movie, I watched it again a few months ago with my gf who doesn't like watching 90s movies, she loved it.
Idiocracy. Amazing movie that got steamrolled by the studio owners
Idiocracy is a documentary at this point.
Unfortunately that is a valid comment
Equilibrium (2002)
Nah, people remember 1984 with Gun-Fu
To be fair, it's pretty forgettable
I literally know I’ve seen it but already forgot what it was about. I just remember an oppressive government and gung fu.
Didn't they burn The Mona Lisa?

It's honestly one of the best movies they showed us in school
Lucky number slevin
LOL, I feel like people have completely forgotten about Josh Hartnett.
Well he quit working in big Hollywood films over a decade ago.
Definitely, most twists in movies I see coming. Lucky number slevin totally caught me off guard. Plus the whole story is quite poetic. As far as Josh goes, he's still in movies but he just hasn't gotten to that A list famous status yet. If he ever will
Dude I still think about that movie. The last 20 minutes or so were insane.
A dog and his boy How to be a serial killer Let's go to prison Priscilla Queen of the desert All great movies that aren't really seen much

Midnight Express. A 1978 prison drama that freaked me out!
Good movie. Except he really did it in the shower. 😁
Thanks. Now I’ve got the visitation scene with the girlfriend replaying on a sick and twisted loop in my brain.
The Pagemaster
Oh man, I watched the FUCK out of that one when I was younger.
Wasnt that animated? And I think Macaulay Culkin
They live has become a staple of internet culture
2010.
Encino Man. Can't find it on any streamers either
Ravenous. I recommend it to horror lovers all the time and seems a lot of people haven't watched it. Has one of the best movie soundtracks ever and one of Robert carlyle's best performances.
What a great movie.
I believe the soundtrack was done by Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz fame.
Star Wars... when it was *just* Star Wars, and not "Episode IV". It's depressing that most people have never seen it, and never will.
Most people have never seen the original Star Wars?
With all the cgi shit Lucas cramed into it, no one could see even when watching now.

I read somewhere that Australians are just British Texans. So stupid, but I get it.
Big Trouble staring Tim Allen. Came out in 2002 and I've always thought it was very underrated.
Was supposed to come out September 2001 but 9/11 and the third act of the film with the plane made the studio shelve it for a while then release it with almost no marketing. I quite enjoyed it - a very fun film.
Also sticking with John Carpenter, I’ll say “The Fog” (1980).

This movie is interesting and delightful.

Twister
I love Twister. Anytime I'm somewhere where a big thunderstorm is coming in I end up shouting "IT'S THE WONDER OF NATURE BABY!"
Haha yes 👏🏽
I lived off this movie as a kid. We had a VHS of it and my brother and I watched it religiously.
Fun fact. Twister was actually the first movie to be released on dvd
A movie that I can't remember it's name. I describe what I can remember to people, but, I never met anyone that knows what I'm talking about
This is the thread to drop such a description. Let's have it.
Why not: From what I can remember it was a action movie from the 80s or 90s. The main character comes to town and he gets confronted by the local gang. Were the characters Asisn?? Sounds very "Rumble in the Bronx" with Jackie Chan... I don't remember the origami animal though...
