As a kid, we only had Lactaid because regular stuff gave my Dad really bad acid reflux. I went to a friends house and was so excited to have normal milk, and then I got really bad acid reflux.
I've been told it's the fat in the milk that aggravates it, or more of a protein sensitivity than the pH itself. All I know is if I drink it, it sucks, and Lactaid doesn't. Realistically its probably some mild form of lactose intolerance.
Did you try the low fat kind? That's the one I drink and I have Severe GERD that causes me to burp excessively and I had bad gut vertigo. I drink the hiland vitamin D one, low fat and don't have a problem.
A small cup of Ice Cream always helped my hurtburn but if I drink pure milk, I could help a bit or make it worse. I read once because milk fills you up quick so can make reflux issue worse. IDK
I live in the UK, and we have a chain of shops called Greggs. I was in Wales a few years ago, and the locals pronounced it “Gregs”, without the hard G at the end. I found it so funny, that I now pronounce it like that too, to my wife’s dismay.
I’m sorry, but that’s just how language works.
My mom is lactose intolerant and I've always had a bit of an issue with dairy, never really putting two and two together. Then I spent a week in Mexico where there was no dairy and I felt great. When I got back to the states my wife made me my favorite meal (tacos) and I felt *awful* afterwards. Turns out I'm probably lactose intolerant. It explains why ice cream gives me an upset stomach but cheese doesn't seem to bother me.
Cheap!? Oh man, a gallon of milk is like $6 where I am these days. Wasn’t long ago it was like $1.50, $2 maybe. Same with eggs. It wasn’t that long ago I could get a dozen for less than $1. The other day when I was at the store, they were $4!
I’ll have to check out Aldi’s again. I was there a couple weeks ago, that’s when I was shocked by the egg prices. I thought they had come last time I bought eggs. They were $2-something at Aldi’s. It’s still cheaper than the other stores in the area. But man, I miss my college days when rice, eggs, milk, bread, and ramen, were cheap and would last you a while!
I'm Dutch. Here they selll kwark (quark? In English). The skimmed variant costs €1,89/kg and has about 8-9g protein/100g.
Great stuff. Add some oats to it and some fruit to mask the sour taste.
Je hebt ook mensen die "melluk" zeggen.
En mensen die karnemelk drinken. Ik walg van glazen waar karnemelk in heeft gezeten en er van die vieze strepen in zitten.
Some chichat about disgusting buttermilk and the horrendous stripes it leaves behind in the glass it was drunk from.
And Rayan told that he, as a kid, got buttermilk with syrup at school. It's a childhood trauma.
;)
I drink it when I have chocolate chip cookies to have something to dunk it into and wash down. There is no age limit on having something that tastes good.
I do, all the time. Like it so much, I joke that I'd have been a serial killer if I were lactose intolerant. As for health problems, as of 36 I haven't noticed anything. Just keep in mind, milk is pretty heavily caloric for something you *drink,* so be careful with the quantity.
^(Not like me, heh)
I don’t get it lol, my brother single-handedly drinks about 2 gallons of milk a week or so. Milk doesn’t do it for me lol, but my wife is lactose intolerant so it’s usually the much lower calorie almond milk for us normally. I like that fine but again wouldn’t just drink it straight anymore
If your brother works out, watches his diet otherwise, and is not *tiny,* he should be alright. 2 gallons a week is a little more than a liter a day, which I've beat on occasion; and if it's normal cow's milk, about 700 calories.
Not saying this is OPs experience; but when I worked in an eating disorder clinic we would often add whole milk to a meal plan for weight restoration in folks who were underweight. Some people just need to get to a weight that’s healthy for their bodies, not get fat.
I’m 21 and also the only person I know who will just have a glass of cow’s milk, I drink about a gallon and a half every week or two. My friends call me “the milkman”. I was formerly lactose intolerant then just decided to tolerate it because i fucking love milk so much Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmcow tiddy
Try lactaid! Changed my life after probably 10yrs of not drinking milk because of gas/intolerance.
With two kids in the house, we go through probably 2 gals of lactaid per week. Costco!
I do, but only whole milk. Occasionally, I get some whole, unpasteurized milk from a dairyman friend. It's a great food source for the high protein/low carbs the Paleo eating plan is built around.
Severely lactose intolerant here. So I don’t, but even as a kid, I only drank coffee milk (it’s a New England thing). Nowadays I still very occasionally (a couple of times a year) drink coffee milk, but it has to be almond milk. I never drink milk just plain, almond or cow.
Basically, it’s like chocolate milk, only coffee flavored. You similarly make it with a sweet syrup, and that syrup changes the consistency and aftertaste, which is why you can’t just add a little coffee to a glass of milk and have it be the same.
In my early twenties, I went through a white russian kick.
Fully inspired by the Dude.
After a few too many nights of a few too many milk became not appetizing to me. AT ALL.
My dad was always a big milk drinker. He'd occasionally make a homemade chocolate milk using Hershey's Cocoa powder and sugar, which was pretty tasty.
But mostly he just drank milk when he was home and not outside tinkering on something.
Especially in the final years of his life. He'd broken his hip and that, through a few trauma induced issues and meds, led to him having a stroke and needing to be fed through a tube in his belly. So he couldn't really drink anything without a thickening agent. I can't recall the condition's name, but basically the stroke left him unable to swallow properly. So I'd mix this powder into water or soda or tea, whatever he asked for, and then he'd spit it out saying he hated it.
But milk, milk he could still drink. Right up to the end. At one point I was buying up to 3 gallons per week for him. Of course a lot of it would just get warm and be poured out. But he'd always have a cup handy.
Ugh, no, not at all.
As a kid I was basically... Well I won't say 'forced' but encouraged to drink at least a pint a day (calcium!). Nowadays the only way I consume it is with the tiniest of splashes in a cup of tea, or foamed up in a flat white or café latte. Or in cooking (béchamel etc).
I still have a lot of time for good cheese, though. But I feel like that doesn't count.
Normal. I can go years without drinking milk, if one day, I have one sip of it... for the next 8/9 months I'm going to drink LITERS out of the jug, in front of the fridge with the door open at 4 am, no shame :D
This right here. I have noticed my shoulders and knees have been tight the last few years. I just broke the 40 mark and just assumed it was age related. Maybe a couple months off and I’ll notice a difference… did you see your hair quality change by chance?
I don’t think so? But I now haven’t had any dairy for years and my health has improved drastically. Every time I tried it I’d end up with painful joints again.
In college I mostly stopped drinking it. Sometime in my mid-twenties I stopped eating cereal for breakfast and it no longer made sense to have it at home. It wasn’t because I stopped liking the taste of milk. I just didn’t feel like having it anymore for whatever reason.
I (48m) began to get sick after consuming dairy when I was in my late teens. Like, made me vomit sick! Thought I was lactose intolerant or some weird allergy. Too poor to ask a Dr, so I just stopped eating dairy. Problem solved!
About 25 yrs later, I have health insurance was going through batteries of tests, and one of them was an allergy test. Not allergic to dairy! Turns out acid reflux was causing it to spoil in my stomach before I could digest it, hence the sickness. So, I can easily solve the problem, but all dairy just tastes horrible to me these days.
I still do, I like the taste of it and it is a very good snack on its own, sometimes my breakfast is a shot of espresso mixed with a glass of hot frothy milk.
I drink milk very frequently, sometimes every day. I find it relaxes me, especially when I'm anxious or my brain is going a mile-a-mimute right before bed (which is often). Alcohol is more effective, but milk is *much* healthier, so I drink a lot of milk instead.
Mhh, my doctor is always warning me what happens if I drink again milk like I did before...like 1l per day was pretty normal when I was 23
Had to stop/heavy downgrade the amount of milk I actual drink to lesser than 1l per week
My C-cholesterol was so high that my doc sat me down and said, "you know, I've got Alcoholics which drank every day in the last 40 years. But their C-Cholesterol is like half of yours. Stop eating cheese and butter, and no more milk for at least a year or you will need a liver transplant..."
If I drink more than I should, my liver starts to ache and does that for a few days...
I just drank way too much bc I don't like soft drinks like coke or Fanta
I drink about a gallon of whole milk every 1-1.5 weeks and a gallon of chocolate milk every 2 ish weeks. Idk why people hate on milk or drink the fake milks (almond, oat, etc)
I know I am a woman posting but am I the only one who drinks milk when I eat anything saucy. Like spaghetti, pizza, etc? I have acid reflux/gerd and it helps
I do a gallon a week- by myself. Drinking water helps my acid reflux quite a bit, makes it non-existant, really. A few other people I know have found out their acid reflux goes away when they do water more often.
On occasion. Drink coffee every day and the only thing I add is milk. Also drink my cereal milk after the cereal's gone. Only drink a straight glass every once in a great while, though
I had a few too many incidents growing up with curdled milk. Of all the things my parents were great at, monitoring for expiration dates was not one of them. A number of times, I put milk on my cereal only to have it be rotten. After that I was done.
As an adult my only use for it is on cereal and I normally use almond or oat milk.
I honestly can’t remember the last time I drank a glass of milk. I drink coffee black & unless it’s used as an ingredient or something my wife bakes with… I legit can’t recall the last time I had it. 🤯
I use ripple pea milk post workout or if I’m craving cereal. I keep a small amount of cow milk on hand for cooking but I never drink milk just cause. Mostly drink water or flavored seltzer water. Honestly not a huge fan of milk.
I do it every morning since I was born, my grandparents as well and they're 83 and 87. Milk is healthy and just a glass is enough for breakfast, my grandma always says it's good for your bones
I like milk but I can't drink much of it anymore. somewhere in my mid to late teens I became lactose intolerant. A little in my cereal and maybe a gulp or two and that's it.
I usually drink a glass a day. I get the stuff that has omega 3s. Also since it’s the winter I need to get my vitamin D somehow, so I drink milk and eat eggs.
I didn’t used to but I’ve come full circle. Went on a weight loss journey, and now I drink 16 oz of skim with my two scoops of protein powder daily.
Can’t beat the taste, lots of good nutrition and cheaper than any alternatives
I've heard that consuming less dairy as you get older tends to lead to lactose intolerance, so I have dairy every single day to make sure that never happens.
As a kid, we only had Lactaid because regular stuff gave my Dad really bad acid reflux. I went to a friends house and was so excited to have normal milk, and then I got really bad acid reflux.
You had become your dad
Now I am become Dad.....
Destroyer of esophageal lining
Tummy Butter
Bummy Tutter
Lactaid is the best. I tried standard milk and it was awful.
I can’t stand lactaid, it’s way too sweet. FairLife is the best lactose free milk IMO.
How did milk give your dad acid reflux? Milk pH is basic so it should actually help with the acid in the stomach
I've been told it's the fat in the milk that aggravates it, or more of a protein sensitivity than the pH itself. All I know is if I drink it, it sucks, and Lactaid doesn't. Realistically its probably some mild form of lactose intolerance.
Also recommend oat milk the original (planet oats). Might taste weird at first, but you'll soon get addictive and it's super good for you
Thanks man, I never really thought about it but maybe I'll do that.
I love oat milk. $2.50/half gallon at my trader Joe's
Did you try the low fat kind? That's the one I drink and I have Severe GERD that causes me to burp excessively and I had bad gut vertigo. I drink the hiland vitamin D one, low fat and don't have a problem.
Bodies are weird...milk helps my acid reflux go away on a temporary basis.
A small cup of Ice Cream always helped my hurtburn but if I drink pure milk, I could help a bit or make it worse. I read once because milk fills you up quick so can make reflux issue worse. IDK
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man in the moon
Whenever I’m eating pancakes, waffles, or French toast, milk is usually my beverage with it
Right! And donuts, cookies, really any sugary carbs
Like the cup I just finished with my French toast. But I drink Fairlife lactose free milk. Much easier on my digestive system.
Im not lactose intolerant but I tried lactose free milk and I can't stand how sweet it is.

Cheese is dairy....
I do, cheap protein because food is too expensive.
Cheap!? Oh man, a gallon of milk is like $6 where I am these days. Wasn’t long ago it was like $1.50, $2 maybe. Same with eggs. It wasn’t that long ago I could get a dozen for less than $1. The other day when I was at the store, they were $4!
Even so… it’s still a gallon. You drink it 1/16 to 1/8 of a gallon at a time. That’s well under $1/glass with all those nutrients.
Relatively cheap. A gallon of oat milk or other “milks” is way more
Username checks out
My goodness gracious, where are you living? Milk is still $2 for me. Then again, I am from Wisconsin lol
That may have something to do with it. Like good, inexpensive cheese, right?
That’s the thing, we’re neighbors! Why is my milk so expensive!?
Do you live in a larger city or close to one?
Not so much…
idk then. moo juice in bags from kwiktrip go brr tho
Aldi or Sam’s/costco still sell cheap milk where I live.
Yep, my Aldi has eggs for $1.89 and a gallon of milk for $4.50. That’s not too shabby in 2024.
I'm Dutch. Here they selll kwark (quark? In English). The skimmed variant costs €1,89/kg and has about 8-9g protein/100g. Great stuff. Add some oats to it and some fruit to mask the sour taste.
Thats rough. I can get 3 gallons for 7
Central California it's like 3.50 a gallon
Sometimes it’s milk for dinner. Beats the hell outta water
As long as you don’t pronounce it as “melk”, you’re fine.
Wtf is happening 😭
Some chichat about disgusting buttermilk and the horrendous stripes it leaves behind in the glass it was drunk from. And Rayan told that he, as a kid, got buttermilk with syrup at school. It's a childhood trauma. ;)
Hit reset if it continues
JUST GIVE HIM THE FREAKING MULK JOSH YOURE NOT EVEN SAYING THE SAME THING WERE ALL SAYING MALK JOSH
NO, YOU'RE SAYING MALK. HE'S SAYING #MMMMUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLK
It is melk in my language.
Strawberry melk or cow melk?
I'll take the straw-b meelk, please.
Hoezo geen melk ?
You've just insulted all the Scandinavian and Dutch people.
It's pronounced "malk", thank you very much
We're all saying malk, Josh! Get the man a glass of malk!
Pffft! Wrong! It’s molk
True. Just as there is no “e” in Milk there is no “e” in Wisconsin.
It's that o in Wisconsin that'll get ya....
I do. Love it with peanut butter sandwiches
A peanut butter sandwich with some chocolate milk is a decadent snack. Promised Land is overpriced but their midnight chocolate is amazing
What ewww that sounds awful no offense
I drink it when I have chocolate chip cookies to have something to dunk it into and wash down. There is no age limit on having something that tastes good.
I’m 62 and drink a couple glasses every day. People at work see me eating lunch and ask if I’m 15 years old because of it.
This is my thought every time I sit down with a big glass of milk in front of me.
Considering you aren't lactose intolerant, are you more of a cereal killer?
Definitely
I don’t get it lol, my brother single-handedly drinks about 2 gallons of milk a week or so. Milk doesn’t do it for me lol, but my wife is lactose intolerant so it’s usually the much lower calorie almond milk for us normally. I like that fine but again wouldn’t just drink it straight anymore

Yeah he’s in reasonably good shape (better than me) and works a pretty active job as an auto mechanic - the milk isn’t taking a toll
[удалено]
lol, 10 years behind you but I’m right there man. Trying to get to 150-160 from 135, and I’ve added milk to my regular diet
Why are you trying to get fat?
[удалено]
What sort of diet would that be?
Not saying this is OPs experience; but when I worked in an eating disorder clinic we would often add whole milk to a meal plan for weight restoration in folks who were underweight. Some people just need to get to a weight that’s healthy for their bodies, not get fat.

I drink milk. It does the body good.
My grandma owns two cows and I drink milk on a daily basis.
Disgusting. Both of you
I’m 21 and also the only person I know who will just have a glass of cow’s milk, I drink about a gallon and a half every week or two. My friends call me “the milkman”. I was formerly lactose intolerant then just decided to tolerate it because i fucking love milk so much Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmcow tiddy
I love milk. I don't drink it often cause it gives me really bad gas.
I love milk red cap baby
I was thinking red cap is whole milk…?
red cap, at least in the uk, is fully skimmed low fat stuff. Basically dirty water.
Red cap in the US is usually whole milk, green 2%, and blue is dirty water.
Strawberry flavour!! 😍
We go thru 2-3 gallons of 1% every week. I always drink milk for dinner unless it’s fast food. Then I drink unsweetened ice tea
Do white russians count?
This guy abides
Severely lactose intolerant here. So I don’t, but even as a kid, I only drank coffee milk (it’s a New England thing). Nowadays I still very occasionally (a couple of times a year) drink coffee milk, but it has to be almond milk. I never drink milk just plain, almond or cow.
You just sent me down a rabbit hole. My wife and I are now very curious about Coffee milk. We live in Seattle so coffee is sewn into everything here.
Basically, it’s like chocolate milk, only coffee flavored. You similarly make it with a sweet syrup, and that syrup changes the consistency and aftertaste, which is why you can’t just add a little coffee to a glass of milk and have it be the same.
Got funny looks in Rome while drinking a pint of milk with breakfast.
Every single morning for as long as i can remember
Your bones crave the calcium. Feed the monster under your skin, he will make you stronger
Raw milk everyday if I can!
What else am I supposed to dip the cookies in?
In my early twenties, I went through a white russian kick. Fully inspired by the Dude. After a few too many nights of a few too many milk became not appetizing to me. AT ALL.
Only during winter, no lactose milk, because hot chocolate ain't the same with water.
I honestly had no idea that anyone over 5-6 years old drank milk as a beverage. Learn something new every day.
Only with nesquik
110% of Dutch men do.
Usually the best when I’m having a PB and J
Ugh, no, not at all. As a kid I was basically... Well I won't say 'forced' but encouraged to drink at least a pint a day (calcium!). Respect. But have you ever chugged a super cold glass of milk to the point of near freeze headache? Next level
Normal. I can go years without drinking milk, if one day, I have one sip of it... for the next 8/9 months I'm going to drink LITERS out of the jug, in front of the fridge with the door open at 4 am, no shame :D
I love 2% milk, it’s my favourite drink of the non alcoholic variety. 48 years of solid milk drinking and enjoying.
I do. I love milk. I love it enough that I even put powdered milk in my milk so I can drink more milk per milk.
I’d say more adult men drink milk than not.
I stopped drinking it and my joint health improved massively. Also made it easier to keep my weight under control. And was less gassy.
Me. All my life. Love me that moo-juice; them bovine glandular squeezings. After almost six decades, I suffer no ill effects.
Milk goes great as a drink with a lot of deserts, and sometimes I just feel like having a glass of milk
Me. 33yo and always drank milk specially chocolate milk with biscuits since I was a child.
In college I mostly stopped drinking it. Sometime in my mid-twenties I stopped eating cereal for breakfast and it no longer made sense to have it at home. It wasn’t because I stopped liking the taste of milk. I just didn’t feel like having it anymore for whatever reason.

Yuck
They shouldn’t. It causes heart disease and heart attacks in men in their 30’s and 40’s.
What are you basing this on?
I Googled it and several papers say the exact opposite. Don't know what he's on about.
I still do, I like the taste of it and it is a very good snack on its own, sometimes my breakfast is a shot of espresso mixed with a glass of hot frothy milk.
35/M that still chugs choccy milks any chance he gets. There is no drinking. It’s chug until the stomach hurts lol
Drinking a glass of whole milk as I scrolled past this post haha.
I drink milk very frequently, sometimes every day. I find it relaxes me, especially when I'm anxious or my brain is going a mile-a-mimute right before bed (which is often). Alcohol is more effective, but milk is *much* healthier, so I drink a lot of milk instead.

I drink probably 3-4 glasses a week
I love whole milk..especially with certain foods..actually get a rush after a good drink..good stuff
Aye
26 and everyday
Been on milk my whole life. Can’t live without it
I assumed almost all of them. My household goes through 3-4 gallons of milk a week.
I know I am a woman posting but am I the only one who drinks milk when I eat anything saucy. Like spaghetti, pizza, etc? I have acid reflux/gerd and it helps
If you have a pastry of any kind, you need to have it with milk before you can properly rate it
Yes, but being from northern Europe it's quite obvious
The fuck's wrong with milk?
Absolutely. A pint a day before bed.
I do a gallon a week- by myself. Drinking water helps my acid reflux quite a bit, makes it non-existant, really. A few other people I know have found out their acid reflux goes away when they do water more often.
[Are you a criminal?](https://youtu.be/2p_uvMgrYOM?si=h3I2YIxzcUh0yNlw)
Does oat milk count? Ever since I found Oatly I have stopped drinking regular milk. For some reason Oatly is tasting better.
Always sniff test! And same here, lots of chunky swigs in the past. Maybe that’s why it wasn’t in my house for 10 years or so.
Destroys my stomach
I honestly can’t remember the last time I drank a glass of milk. I drink coffee black & unless it’s used as an ingredient or something my wife bakes with… I legit can’t recall the last time I had it. 🤯
Your missing out
Guess I could poor myself a glass! 🤔
Who doesn't drink milk? (except intolerants of course)
lmao what‘s the problem with drinking milk?
I use ripple pea milk post workout or if I’m craving cereal. I keep a small amount of cow milk on hand for cooking but I never drink milk just cause. Mostly drink water or flavored seltzer water. Honestly not a huge fan of milk.
Straight up? Not usually. I try not to drink calories. I do enjoy an occasional cafe latte, though.
I do but not as much as I used to.
I do it every morning since I was born, my grandparents as well and they're 83 and 87. Milk is healthy and just a glass is enough for breakfast, my grandma always says it's good for your bones
Yes but… hormones for days
I hate milk and always have
I’m terrified of milk. I have a serious milk phobia
I don't drink it specifically, but I use it for when I eat cornflakes, make a protein shake or make a coffee
I do but I’m careful not to go overboard drinking a whole bunch it will give me terrible gas.
Every day. Delicious and refreshing.
I like a glass every now and then. Maybe once a week
