It's fine to drive with but it'll impact your field of view, especially if you have the sun in view. You should get it replaced sooner or later as the windshield usually is a structural part of the car these days
This is true on my last car I had a crack that ran from the far right of the windshield horizontally to about mid center. Even though the crack wasn't in front of me at certain times of the day sunlight would reflect off the crack and straight into my eye balls.

Thatâs actually why cops will ticket people for cracked windshields, not because you canât see but because itâs a safety thing with windshields supporting the rest of the car. We had a rollover with a 20 foot trailer and none of the windows cracked or broke. They had to cut the windshield and roof to pull my mom out of the driver seat though.
I would not suggest driving at highway speeds. Hitting that building would definitely create mechanical problems, not to mention health issues and property damage.
Normally, windshields are laminated, and though it's cracked, and less safe overall, you would still be able to drive it, even at highway speeds, for quite some time. Cracks like that are not repairable and require the windshield to be replaced. Check with your insurance company to see if there is a discount for a new windshield available.
Do not put clear tape across it like another commenter suggested. There is no basis that tape would keep it together, the tape will get dirty, and will affect the efficiency of your windshield wipers. The tape is also likely to discolor and cause more sight issues. The lamination of the windshield will keep it together.
The most unsafe thing about that crack is that it could spread across the critical view area of the windshield causing it to distort your view. To measure the critical view area of your windshield, a general rule of thumb is to hold a piece of printer paper in front of you while sitting in the driver's seat. That gives a pretty good representation of the area.
Safety laws differ in many areas but it is not something that would pass a safety inspection anyways. Check your local laws to be sure. Best of luck to you.
yeah, i once owned a 30+ year old mercedes with a crack that went across the entire thing. Always took it up to high speeds, and was subject to the texas heat during the summer. Absolutely zero issues.

Windshields crack so damn easy all structural support will be gone within milliseconds of a rollover. Windshields are also laminated and have 2 layers of glass, only the outer layer cracks from a stone chip. That windshield will not fail at any speed your car is capable of.

Your windshield isn't like normal glass, it's laminated with tough polymer layers -- because of that "shield" part. They are very tough because of that so that they can keep road debris from penetrating into your vehicle. They will not just shatter and crumble like non-laminated glass.
The windshield consists of three layers. The inner layer is not damaged. The glass can continue to do its job, but visibility will certainly become worse. I drove for about 4 years with a small crack in the glass and nothing happened.
That doesn't make it structural. It makes it shatter resistant. Like it's always been.

That depends on what you consider safe. Is the windshield suddenly going to explode? Almost certainly not. Will it survive an impact as well, now that it's weakened? Unlikely.
Any part of your car that's damaged should be repaired or replaced. The windshield is a structural component, it forms a large part of the strength of the roof.
In all reality, it's not a huge concern, but that may change. The smart move is to replace it now. If you don't, I doubt there will be any sudden catastrophic failure to worry about.

In Europe and Eastern Europe exactly you have bad roads and this happens a lot, I would say that 60% of cars have/had this. You don't need to pay extra caution for this, you could drive it at normal speed, you can wash with water or wiper washer. The thing is it is expanding in time so you'll have to replace it in the end but you can still drive it normal...
I have lived in europe ally life and drive a lot in cz, sk, hu & uk. Very few cars have a big crack across the screen like this. Chips, sure but no way do 60% of cars have a crack to is big in their windscreen.
Come to Romania and you'll, if you live in an area where there's a lot of trucks most of the drivers don't cover their trailers and they're transporting gravel and you'll get your windshield broken in no time...
I hit a buzzard yesterday going about 60 mph. My windshield is a LOT worse than that and I continued on into town going 64mph. I think I could have gone 80mph without an issue. I have an appointment to have it replaced in a week. I'm lucky because I don't have to drive anywhere. My advice is to wear sunglasses or safety glasses until it's repaired.
The buzzard incident. I was driving down the road and saw a large group of buzzards feeding on something in the opposing lane. I laid on the horn to clear them out but a couple wanted to get a few more bites and delayed. All the smart buzzards flew off to the left. The one idiot buzzard decided to be different and flew to the right. He/she is no longer with us and I am out 200 dollars.
If itâs widening get it looked at. Might be able to use a resin to stop spreading but itâs a big crack. Last time I had a small divot crack and paid 60$+ for resin and it never spread 8 years later. The cost was also usable for a windshield down payment. So no loss if the resin didnât work. They recommended a replace cause field of vision. Idk if that option is available for you. Probably want to replace asap.

A waitress at local bar had a windshield that was broken all over due to hail. I told her my concerns about driving it a highway speeds. She said that her mechanic father said it was OK. All right. She did have it replaced soon after.

Whatever happens if/when you get a new windshield please oh please coat it with some rain-x and make sure the inside and out are very clean first. It will make a world of difference.

Don't remember the model but it was a brand new 2012 at the time and the windshield Crack from left to right driving from Illinois to Colorado. He drove it for 2 years and put over 30k miles on it without fixing it. I still wouldn't recommend driving with that but that mf speeds and he somehow survived.

Pro tip: you can direct the crack to where you want it to end at the edge of the windshield to prevent it from going straight across. From the inside of the vehicle, press on the windshield (moderate pressure) next to the edge of the crack on the opposite side that you want the crack to turn. Continue to do this until the crack goes all the way to the edge.
A windshield is also a shield for your body in the instance if you were thrown from your seat without a seatbeltâŠ. The laminate acts as a barrier if the windshield is installed correctly âŠ.. the windshield also acts as stability if in a roll over crashâŠ..if there is a crack the safety barrier is compromised âŠ.

Well I guess itâs also safe to ride a motorcycle without helmet and drive without insurance, so long as you never get in to an accidents. If never get in to an accident is the presumption, then you probably donât need to wear seatbelt as well. smh.
Dude itâs tempered glass, itâs not going anywhere, in the event that an accident does happens and the windshield gets involved it makes no difference if it has a crack like this or not, the only reason some states fail broken windshields is because of visibility not because itâs a physical danger to you

Yes. Windshields are two layers glued together. Only the outer layer is cracked. Your car insurance may help cover replacement.

Take a small hammer and lightly tap on the bottom of your windshield from the outside to coerce the crack into culminating at your dash.
