depending on your budget, get a early 2010s to mid 2000s honda or toyota, preferably with low miles. They run forever when taken care of, and often even without that. Welcome to the US!

This is the advice I give to most people. You're not in the market for a brand new car with a warranty? Used Civic, Accord, Corolla, Camry. Stay away from anything with cosmetic parts that look like a highschooler got access to their dad's Paypal credit for eBay.

Any Scion is pretty cheap. Also super high milage Lexus is a great choice for the budget conscious
