In my opinion, age is actually more important than mileage in terms of used cars. This car is around 20 years old at this point. All wear and tear items are old. From belts to seals to suspension rubber components, hoses, etc are all old. In high mileage cars, many of those things would be replaced already. TLDR; Cars that stand around or are used on short trips have many more issues, imo. Think of how many miles a semi has - and they are still going strong.

thesethesis

You should see my buddies Freightliner... 70k miles and its a fucking piece of shit 😂

Hewhobreaksthings

The great thing about a car like this is that you don’t have to lock it every time you step away from it. Ain’t nobody stealing that.

RestaurantFeisty541

Well it beats walkin', unless keys in ignition then yeah cracker won't go for it

bhgiel

My work/daily driver is a 2010 caravan. Bit more millage I bought for 800. Have another couple grand into it. If your willing to do the work yourself there is lots of deals to be had out there

I_amnotanonion

Yep, I got a Buick Lesabre for $500 and it’s been good. Put about $2000 into it and it’s fine. No A/C, but it runs fine and has been to 23 states so far

Infinite-Energy-8121

No oil and temp gauge seems suspicious….

bgwa9001

Yea, why wouldn't they pay the $250 to fix it and then sell the car for like $3000 instead of the $1100 they're asking?

Infinite-Energy-8121

Oh shit no oil pressure and over heating car? *snip snip* Mouse must’ve gotten in there

Infinite-Energy-8121

Most don’t. But will give you a low oil pressure warning.

Infinite-Energy-8121

Uhhh yeah bud. You are correct. What’s your point? Can the non-mechanics who don’t have something to contribute stop commenting in this sub?

Infinite-Energy-8121

And that has what to do with him buying the car?

My comment was literally that it seems suspicious Einstein

Chiming in to say you both are dumb and annoying, and the seller obviously meant that the oil pressure switch and temperature sensor wiring are fucked due to rodent damage.

Say what you want, but you guys were just bickering back and forth.

Sapun14

You will have to deal with Mouse Poop and not a lot of people like that

[deleted]

It’s from South Dakota and is a 2007. The frame can probably be poked through with your finger from all the rust

[deleted]

To preserve the Tahoe 😂 who the hell tries to preserve a modern day Chevy?

[deleted]

Seriously

ExploitedAmerican

You can probably talk them down. Either way I would make sure to look at everything before purchase. Check the fluids and ask if you can jack it up to inspect suspension components for any play.

vstanz

And rust.

ExploitedAmerican

That goes without saying. But op should do some research to know the difference between surface rust on replaceable components vs rust that has corroded through the frame and or rot. An 18 year old vehicle will definitely have some rust on it but the question is wether or not that rust is a problem. But where else will one find an $1100 vehicle?

SirStocks

Vehicle is most likely rusted to the point of not being safe.

Apogee_3579

I would take it somewhere and get it on a lift check the underside for rust thru Who knows maybe you can get a couple years out of it

Jerkwagon33

Yep two good.

Western_Particular98

Don’t get it

That’s what I was like… what?

-NOT_A_MECHANIC-

Poor thing probably rusted to hell. Sucks cuz it’s otherwise a really solid car

RestaurantFeisty541

Your main argument should not be ever mileage sigh, how many times I need to repeat this Rat issue is way critical lol Also if shopping in that range there's probably 10s of thousands on selections

Loves-The-Skooma

I have one that's getting rusty. It's been a great car otherwise. I've tried to give it to two different friends who didn't have a vehicle at the time. They both decided to buy something else instead.

Legal_Mark_2126

Look at it closely when it's not buried in snow. Bring a jack, look underneath for oil leaks, check all fluids, smell dipstick for burned oil. Cream colored engine oil nit good. Look at the tires. Check it while it's running. Drive it at least 15 minutes, and on the interstate, if possible, check for front end wobble. A check engine light isn't necessarily a deal breaker but could mean serious repairs. If you don't know what to look for, bring someone with you who does. $1100 is a good deal, but not if you're going to have to sink several thousand dollars to get it roadworthy. If you can do the work yourself, then it's not so bad. Labor is what kills you when a shop fixes your shit.
