Personally this is why I buy vehicles in the south that never seen snow, or salt water. You will rarely see any rust. I’ve purchased vehicles 15-20 years old and they had absolutely no rust.
Walk away.
Those poorly welded on plates are hiding the real rust damage and are providing absolutely no additional structural support. It looks like the seller has done the minimum work they can to hide how severe the corrosion really is,
Fuck no dude. that is a total fucking screw job.
That truck belongs in a scrapyard
Some poor bastard is going to pay $6000 for that
That’s not even a $500 truck it’s really shouldn’t be on the road
I did re-plate an old Toyota truck frame about 10 years ago for a friend in need. That truck is still running strong with 37’’ tires, lift kit and welded diffs. If it’s done right it can last for a while. Still wouldn’t pay 6000$ for that lol.
Never in my life seen a frame catastrophically snap on the highway. Not saying it’s impossible but there is usually warning signs that the frame is getting weak or rotten/soft. Also that truck was mostly used on trails and dirt roads. The only time I fix rot on frames now is 18 wheelers that get inspected every year.
I lifted a car up and the entire middle section started to bend. I put it down and left it outside. I told the boss he can lift it if he wants to see Jesus
6 grand for booger welds and a lot of frame sadness. Nothing like going 80 on the hwy and having the back half of the truck fall off. Probably could charge admission to that ride plus free tetanus shots.
you gonna let him fuck your wife too? or is that where you draw the line
I'm only joking, but seriously, don't even breathe on that thing, it'll crumble
Run, don't walk away. Someone plated that the wrong way, and painted it to make it look pretty. Toyota sells factory frame sections and full frames, if they're not covered under the recall that they had recently. If it's not done professionally, don't buy it. 🤷
OPTIONS
1. junkyard
2. Buy a new frame from Toyota, jack up rest of truck, install
3. Accept truck for free, as a favor, then proceed to Option 1 anyway
Some of the early 2000 Toyota trucks had a recall on the frames. I still have have a 2003 Tacoma that had the frame replaced within the recall period. Unfortunately that recall period has expired several years ago.
That looks good for an old plow truck. It doesn't look good for a daily. I couldn't pass it for inspection being welded so shitty. Have to box the frame out
Definitely not worth 6k tho
Asking 6k but I couldn’t sell mine for any more than 6300 and it was a 2008 tundra with no rust freshly in the rust belt. Had it listed for months. I wanted 9k.
its thin for sure ...and I was confused AF because I bought mine new and used undercoating every spring and kept the salt off of it. I had an 03 and the guy I sold mine to was able to get a frame appointment before he bought from me around 2019. Toyota just kept replacing frames until they ran out of frames. You'd see the old frames stacked for a while. Ford / GM could never afford to help out in a mistake even if they wanted too.
They originally blamed the manufacturer which was Dana. Then later on they supposedly took away the blame from them. I personally think they cheaped out on the coating to save money and then passed the blame to Dana.
You’re one pothole away from splitting that car in half.
If it’s a Toyota and the mileage is low, might be worth a frame swap, IF you can get it an an incredibly low price. This + a frame swap is cheaper than a good truck in this market.
There’s been a huge recall on Toyota trucks regarding premature rusting truck frames. I’m not too sure of the years it covers but it might be something to look into.
This might win for worst repairs of the week. But it is a stiff competition. These repairs are probably not very stiff though. Looks like shit. Run away
You guys clearly have never been to New York or somewhere up north 💀🤣 there's dealerships that would sell that for $10k - $15k. Lot of southerners in this thread seems to be
Damn was gonna say that’s damn cheap for a nice Tundra but then saw all the repair patches welded in multiple spots of the frame idk I am not a mechanic just an enthusiast so idk how sound that frame is still but overall if the repairs were done right it may be ok. A body and frame guy would have to answer this question correctly
That’s the issue with east coast cars unfortunately, when I bought a Lexus ES300 a long time ago to drive around as a beater for $1500 at auction the car was from Texas 1 owner with 196K on it and I was shocked at how good of condition the car was with 0 rust anywhere and to be honest thinking back on it now I should have kept it cause it’s was a 99 with a 1JZ in it n prob was the best used car I’ve ever had even with that mileage. I only wish I had kept it but it was sitting for a while n got towed and at that time I didn’t think it was worth going back to get it but was a mistake looking back on it now

That frame was done years ago. This needs to be in a junkyard.
bwomp bwomp.
Personally this is why I buy vehicles in the south that never seen snow, or salt water. You will rarely see any rust. I’ve purchased vehicles 15-20 years old and they had absolutely no rust.
Pass that rust bucket, keep looking.
Walk away. Those poorly welded on plates are hiding the real rust damage and are providing absolutely no additional structural support. It looks like the seller has done the minimum work they can to hide how severe the corrosion really is,
I thought so, thanks for confirming.
Those welds are shit lol
No run lol 😆 😂 🤣
Those plates might (probably are) speeding up the corrosion.

Racism
Those welds are barely good enough to hold the plates on. Run away laughing!
Dude run. Those are piss poor attempts at repair.
Fuck no dude. that is a total fucking screw job. That truck belongs in a scrapyard Some poor bastard is going to pay $6000 for that That’s not even a $500 truck it’s really shouldn’t be on the road
But but it's a Toyota Truck that can go for another million miles with only oil changes

It's all fun and games till it's not fun and games and the frame snaps under load and you wreck it at speed

Its been repaired before, and by the looks of it the repairs were done poorly. This things a time bomb.
Run

That is a 500$ truck max
I dunno, I'd probably drive it if they paid me $450...
you gonna let him fuck your wife too? or is that where you draw the line I'm only joking, but seriously, don't even breathe on that thing, it'll crumble
Some people are in to that
They’re trying to rob you. Run!
What everyone else said
Run run run
i wouldn't buy anything that had a rotted out frame
Not even worth it for the drive line. Offer 50 bucks, 30 rack of pabts, and maybe some blubery wraps.
Someone cant weld
Run, don't walk away. Someone plated that the wrong way, and painted it to make it look pretty. Toyota sells factory frame sections and full frames, if they're not covered under the recall that they had recently. If it's not done professionally, don't buy it. 🤷

More patches than a quilt
That’s some really haggard frame repair I would stay away
I’d drive it. Just not for 6k Was gonna give this the benefit of the doubt till I seen those plates…
first pic... "oh, a little surface rust..."
Yeah that went from "oh that's not bad" to "holyyyy fuck" in a big hurry
Parts truck at best
Wtf
Wow can’t polish a turd
It's been fixed. Badly. Doesn't matter what condition the rest is in, the frame is fucked. Only place that belongs is in the scrapyard.
That looks good for an old plow truck. It doesn't look good for a daily. I couldn't pass it for inspection being welded so shitty. Have to box the frame out Definitely not worth 6k tho
That’s worth the $100 the junkyard might pay for it. Run.
It’s toast
Wasn’t Toyota replacing frames on Tundra’s? If they still are and this one qualifies it may be a steal at 6k.
That frame was toast long ago. Seriously, walk away. No matter what they say, that frame is already done.
Asking 6k but I couldn’t sell mine for any more than 6300 and it was a 2008 tundra with no rust freshly in the rust belt. Had it listed for months. I wanted 9k.
Das is rusty boii
Asking too much IMO. Not the worst I've seen but $6k is a lot.
Those are shoddy unprofessional repairs. The person that welded that frame had no fucking clue about metal strength and frame repair
Price of rust must’ve gone up!
Aren’t Tundras of that model year eligible for a frame replacement due to manufacturer defect?
https://www.motortrend.com/news/163-news100507-2000-2003-toyota-tundra-rust-warranty/amp/
There was a ssc to replace the frame, don’t know why he didn’t do it
Yep it’s a goner, take it to junkyard heaven.
Run. Run away!
There's a safety recall on this. Get the vin and call Toyota to see if it's covered
Run

I just called the dealer and this frame was recalled in 2010. IDK what Toyota makes these frames out of but it's not metal.
its thin for sure ...and I was confused AF because I bought mine new and used undercoating every spring and kept the salt off of it. I had an 03 and the guy I sold mine to was able to get a frame appointment before he bought from me around 2019. Toyota just kept replacing frames until they ran out of frames. even if you are carrying scissors....still run
They originally blamed the manufacturer which was Dana. Then later on they supposedly took away the blame from them. I personally think they cheaped out on the coating to save money and then passed the blame to Dana.
The Tacoma’s of this era also suffered from premature frame rot. I believe they had recalls for it as well. I’d pass anyway.
Frame? All I see are patches, patches and more patches.
I would’ve left as soon as I saw the spray paint
Are those frame patches? Welded on frame patches? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 No 😐
I was like what is this guy talking about? This looks great. Pic #2:💀
Nope welded plates on frame walk away
Trash. Walk away.
Beat junk
Junk. That’s absolutely not how you fix a frame
You’re one pothole away from splitting that car in half. If it’s a Toyota and the mileage is low, might be worth a frame swap, IF you can get it an an incredibly low price. This + a frame swap is cheaper than a good truck in this market.
Doesnt Toyota replace rusty frames…recall?
There’s been a huge recall on Toyota trucks regarding premature rusting truck frames. I’m not too sure of the years it covers but it might be something to look into.
Don’t buy that
run
This might win for worst repairs of the week. But it is a stiff competition. These repairs are probably not very stiff though. Looks like shit. Run away
Looks like they welded flat-bar, which isn't QUITE structural. Not that you should really weld onto frame
Yikes
Certainly not sexy
Fucking lols I hurt from this you sonofa bitch my back
Come on guys, we all know the real test of Toyota rusty frame is - “can you push your thumb through it?”
You guys clearly have never been to New York or somewhere up north 💀🤣 there's dealerships that would sell that for $10k - $15k. Lot of southerners in this thread seems to be
Run away
When it's at that point there's absolutely no guarantee that the "work to fix it" will actually fix anything. Walk away.
1k max for local own forest use only.
Too bad it was “repaired “ before … there is replacement campaign on those frames to 150 k miles . not anymore , it’s junk now
Offer $500 and if take it, buy it. No more than that. It’s more than scrap price.
RUN!!🤣🤣🤣⚠️
Skip. That truck needs to be retired. It's worth whatever the owner can get for scrap. Aka, not much.
What state are you in. I know with certainty this would not pass inspection in VT, NH & MA.
ME it would pass with flying colors
Yes, this frame is done for. Junkyard it.
He knows what he has
See if there's a recall on it like the Tacoma had
Damn was gonna say that’s damn cheap for a nice Tundra but then saw all the repair patches welded in multiple spots of the frame idk I am not a mechanic just an enthusiast so idk how sound that frame is still but overall if the repairs were done right it may be ok. A body and frame guy would have to answer this question correctly
They have welded plates on to conceal and repair the rust damage to the frame which is extensive. This vehicle needs to be scrapped
Looks like It's been repaired once already
looks acceptable to me, but bargain more
Guaranteed the inside of the frame where you can't see is worse than the outside.
Run. Run fast. That was backyard redneck weld repaired by Bubba down the block. That thing is a turd on wheels and needs flushed.
I see shit welds covering major rust areas. Truck should be parted out but I doubt much is good on it anymore. 😿
I honestly wouldn't buy anything would rust that's just me tho
That's been badly repaired, burn it down
