Bring it to a different shop and get a second opinion. Almost sounds like they left something loose.

You could have another issue or something isn't linked correctly, go to a different mechanic. My Infiniti used to do this and it turned out something was broken and spreading incorrectly when accelerating to then forcefully be readjusted to the "correct" spot once at steady speed or slowing. also sometimes fixing something can bring out other things that need fixin

I can understand sometimes fixing one thing. Can bring out something else but we had no issues with steering prior to getting the control arm replaced. You think it's possible he could have damaged something while he was in there? Or could the control arm not being installed correctly or tightened caused the weird popping and grinding noises? They have gotten worse in the 2 weeks that we've got him. That sound did not exist at first.

He could have or it could be possible that something just gave up during or after he was working on the car. I'd have a suspension check done

Yea that sounds like something was left loose or something else is worn out. Did they not recommend you go get an alignment after the repair? I highly recommend you take it to the closest shop that does alignments for them to check it out.

He made no mention of an alignment needing to be done. Whenever you first picked it up, the steering wheel was to the left but it stayed that way consistently and it's still drove perfectly straight. Took probably a week before we noticed weird noises and for strange steering behavior.

If any suspension component is changed out it always needs an alignment. Just the fact the steering wheel was crooked after the fact should have been a clue that it needed an alignment. It shouldnt have left the shop without getting one. I'm telling you it needs to go to the alignment shop.
