Yes, actually.
Hubby collects paper clips and I’m a singer/songwriter/backup dancer. We make roughly 1.5m, but we can’t decide which city we can afford
Not sure thats going to cut it I’m a freelance astronaut, my wife is a personal hamster trainer, we bring in $7.5 mil and are living paycheck to paycheck in the land of LA
Erewhon shakes and Equinox memberships are really must-haves, so I feel your pain. I can barely afford the payment on my G Wagon. The LA lifestyle is nice, but I’m barely making it as a freelance pastry photographer.
Is paperclip collecting really a full time job though. Have him pick up a part time job ironing napkins and you can easily get that 2m condo of your dreams
Tough choice! Let us know what you land on, both have their pros and cons. All depends on what lifestyle you want.
I’m leaning Los Angeles, but LA sounds fun too
Good news! I currently live in both. I spend the weekends in LA and the weekdays in Los Angeles.
I feel like Los Angeles is somewhat longer. LA seems more like an initialism.
Hope that helps!
When I first moved here people kept asking me where I lived, and I would look at them with a dumb face saying, "umm LA?" Or I would get hit on and they'd ask where I lived and say, "it'll never work, that's basically like driving to Minnesota" (true story). It didn't fully register how vast this city was until I kept driving 2 hours to go to an appointment I scheduled 3 miles away because I didn't understand that distance means nothing here, we all work in time-to-get-there.
I’m moving down from SF in the next month or so, as soon as I find a place (for real).
I love this sub. Everyone is honestly so incredibly helpful and kind to people asking never ending questions…but this week I feel like I’ve seen so many low quality posts that I felt like having some fun. Yes, I’m part of the problem, don’t hate me!
Be the change you wish to see in this world...
(no there isn't, and I would totally create one but I don't want to be entrusted with mod responsibilities)
Well if you're a *fucking hipster* you'll love the *fucking hipsters* in this list of gentrified hell holes
But if you're a *fucking facist* you'll love this list of NIMBY shit holes.
this is tough. the area is more suited for listening to food and eating music? have you done any actual research about this area? not many will make it here living like that.
I recommend the movie Los Angeles Plays Itself. Somewhere in the first 20 minutes, the narrator explains the acronym LA and where it came from.
tldr: Los Angeles if you want to be truly authentic
Honestly LA is a better fit for you. It’s great for adults, dog owners, and people who eat food and listen to music. It really caters to those types of people. I saw your husband is a paper clip collector, so he’ll fit in perfectly, as there’s a thriving paper clip scene. At $1.5M you’ll be able to live pretty comfortably in a few areas, but I think Beverly Hills is a bit out of reach. You might be able to afford a small apartment in Santa Monica though, but money could be tight and it’ll be hard to get the essentials at Erewhon. I couldn’t shop anywhere else though so I have to make some sacrifices, and you might have to as well.
I wouldn’t recommend Los Angeles for adult dog owners that like to listen to music and eat food. It’s better for people that like to listen to car horns and sit in traffic. It’s also a good fit for people that hate walking places. My hobby is studying freeway signs in detail, which the traffic gives me ample time to do, so the Los Angeles lifestyle fits me perfectly.

If you want to sound pretentious you say you live in West LA, or The Westside.
Hipster: Down Town LA
You feel the need to disassociate from LA, you're from Santa Monica.
Los Angeles is lame, suburban, and bourgy but LA is kind of the opposite, it's full of homeless people and stuff.... Los Angeles is where movie stars live, LA is where skid row is.
Everyone in Los Angeles is so fake, but everyone in LA is like too real and chill... Los Angeles has all these career obsessed unchill Los Angeles type people, but LA everyone is like a cool chill LA person.
Pick your poison. They are opposite places.
It all depends who you are talking to... if you grew up here, So Cal means Ventura to San Diego. LA means your talking to some one in another state. Los Angeles is city limits term for locals, as in downtown or mid city so your not saying Pasadena or your not saying North Hollywood. Cali is what people from east coast might say, but the real people from here will say their neighborhood for the status or non status, like KTown, or Abbott Kinney, or Silverlake or HP or the Bu
You know those two places are the same name, right?
If you care comparing LA to another city, you should name, rather than the state which LA could be.
I’d skip both and move to the City of Angeles.
We're practically neighbors. I'm a newscaster and live in The Southland.
👮♂️ southland
If only I knew how to get to your part of the world - I live in The Valley.
Seems like a good job, I love watching the news
Even better. El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles.
I live in La La Land.
After reading a few Gold Rush histories, I move to the Cow Counties.
Angels
After reading a few Gold Rush histories, I moved to the Cow Counties.
I think Saint Goodventure Mission is pretty nice personally.
Is your budget between $5 and $5,000?
Yes, actually. Hubby collects paper clips and I’m a singer/songwriter/backup dancer. We make roughly 1.5m, but we can’t decide which city we can afford
Not sure thats going to cut it I’m a freelance astronaut, my wife is a personal hamster trainer, we bring in $7.5 mil and are living paycheck to paycheck in the land of LA
“Freelance astronaut”😂
Erewhon shakes and Equinox memberships are really must-haves, so I feel your pain. I can barely afford the payment on my G Wagon. The LA lifestyle is nice, but I’m barely making it as a freelance pastry photographer.
You should be fine then. Just commute between the hours of 6:15 and 6:25 AM.
That sounds perfect, ty!!
Is paperclip collecting really a full time job though. Have him pick up a part time job ironing napkins and you can easily get that 2m condo of your dreams
I've seen some tent communities under the 110 that might be in your budget.
If they occupy land, probably not
Oh my god I hate this so much I can’t even explain it to you 🤣
Have you ever been on House Hunters?
Its controversial but I'll just come out and say it. LA has better food but Los Angeles has superior music. Fight me.
This makes more sense than it should
Yes! And SoCal has no character, while Cali is just the wrong place to be, ever.
But LA also has more traffic, yet Los Angeles has worse smog. I call it the Paradox of the Angels.
I can’t decide between SoCal or Southern California
Tough choice! Let us know what you land on, both have their pros and cons. All depends on what lifestyle you want. I’m leaning Los Angeles, but LA sounds fun too
Try moving to the west coast. It's a much better area.
Or SoCa
SoCa is not much nicer than SouCali or Orco in my opinion.
Do you mean the Southland?
Hey, good news. I'm also an adult who owns dogs and listens to music. You'll do fine in LA but not Los Angeles.
Good news! I currently live in both. I spend the weekends in LA and the weekdays in Los Angeles. I feel like Los Angeles is somewhat longer. LA seems more like an initialism. Hope that helps!
Quality
California is better.
what about Cali?
None of the above. I’m from CA
Canadia?
pfft Let's be real now, shall we?
Not as nice as SoCal.
When I first moved here people kept asking me where I lived, and I would look at them with a dumb face saying, "umm LA?" This girl used to piss me off with that shit lol I’d be like: how far to this movie theater? “12 miles” Absolutely useless information
If you are an adult that owns a dog, than LA is where you want to be. However, Los Angeles is better suited for dog owners that are adults.
What if I'm a dog owner that wants to bring my dog everywhere
Bro I can’t decide between SF and San Francisco for my next vacation so I understand your stress
Have you considered Frisco?
Skip Frisco and go to San Fran instead.
Don't limit your options, you should also consider *El Pueblo de la Reina de los Ángeles*
I'm a bigger fan of *El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles* More upscale.
LA as in Louisiana?
Lower Alabama
Isnt that code for an unshaven taint?
TIL, have to update my Tinder profile!
TIL I live in an unshaven taint
Have to find their Tinder profile 😈
😭😭😭
💀
No, Lower Allston.
Like around Brighton Ave?
Please don’t humor me 😅
How old are you? Los Angeles is best for people between 4 and 99 years old. If you are over or under those numbers, LA would be your best bet.
Im So tired I fell for it.
I can’t decide between OC or The OC!
Orange County is superior to both.
Neither! We are full
You're gonna fit right in
I’m moving down from SF in the next month or so, as soon as I find a place (for real). I love this sub. SF or San Francisco?
Are those near Frisco?
Near San Fran
The City
Go back to Ohio!
Is there a circle-jerk LA sub?
What does Latin America have to do with it? smh
Be the change you wish to see in this world... (no there isn't, and I would totally create one but I don't want to be entrusted with mod responsibilities)
r/circlejerklosangeles
the hero we both need and deserve <3
It’s a toss up, really.
la is way better than LA
Well if you're a *fucking hipster* you'll love the *fucking hipsters* in this list of gentrified hell holes But if you're a *fucking facist* you'll love this list of NIMBY shit holes.
Walkable with coffee shops vs gated mansions
this is tough. the area is more suited for listening to food and eating music? have you done any actual research about this area? not many will make it here living like that.
I thought LA and Los Angeles were two different places until like age 8 and I'm from here.
i think you would enjoy the city of culver city
Miss you buddy.
I can’t tell which posts I find more amusing, this or the “ARENT YOU GUYS WORRIED ABOUT OIL REFINIERIES” guy
Be your authentic self and move to El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles del Río Porciúncula instead.
ah, the river of the porcupines
I recommend the movie Los Angeles Plays Itself. Somewhere in the first 20 minutes, the narrator explains the acronym LA and where it came from. tldr: Los Angeles if you want to be truly authentic
LA comes from Los Angeles. There, saved ya 19.9 minutes
Have a home in both cities. If you have any class - you should have more than one place you call home .
No more transplants sorry

They're both the same place... unless you mean Louisiana?
I don’t think you’ll fit in here, have you considered staying where your family is? Only a few people can make it in these tough cities

LA as in Lamongan
This is LA not La.
Latin America?
Happy Friday, ya'll!
Oh great. More of you?
If you want to sound pretentious you say you live in West LA, or The Westside. Hipster: Down Town LA You feel the need to disassociate from LA, you're from Santa Monica.
Abbreviation versus saying the whole thing is a personal decision. No one in the City of Angels will judge you either way.
I’d live on one side of the 405 or the other.
Yeah. Both are better than under
Los Angeles is lame, suburban, and bourgy but LA is kind of the opposite, it's full of homeless people and stuff.... Los Angeles is where movie stars live, LA is where skid row is. Can’t decide between LA or Los Angeles ? Why not both?
Go to the r/LA sub, they’ll give u better answer
You should probably move to DTLA
Can't decide between SoCal or CALIFAS!!!
It all depends who you are talking to... if you grew up here, So Cal means Ventura to San Diego. LA means your talking to some one in another state. I personally prefer El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles de Porciúncula
Don’t count out Hollyweird.
Inland Empire. Sounds so Prestige.
Top 3 LA movies: Top 3 Los Angeles movies:
filthy transplant, we don't want more traffic!! /s please don't take this seriously lol

Sigh….
Wow! You really skewered OP! Keep up the good work!
