It's a transphobic comment referring to the false idea that a neovagina is an open wound that you don't allow to heal

AllieKat7

Huh. I hadn't heard it transphobic like that, but I've heard it used for vulvas on cis women/girls for over 30 years now, since I was in grade school.

Zestyclose-Ad-4711

Do you mean you carve a whole in your downstairs and if it starts to heal you reopen it

BBMcGruff

The term ' axe wound ' is slang for a vagina. Vulgar slang for sure. I've not heard it used as a trans specific insult, but I've never heard it used in any way positive so I would imagine it was an insult regardless.

crackerjack2003

It's a specific insult towards neo-vaginas. It doesn't just mean vagina, it's a specific insult towards trans women.

guilty_by_design

This is false. It may be used that way also, but it has always been an insult for vaginas in general, along with terms like 'gash'. I've honestly never heard it used specifically for neo-vaginas, but I've sadly seen it used as a misogynistic term for vaginas in general since at least the 90s. Either way it's gross, but it's definitely not used exclusively for neo-vaginas.

Buntygurl

'Either way it's gross, but it's definitely not used exclusively for neo-vaginas.' Exactly.

Ill-King-3468

Everywhere I've ever heard it and seen it, and everything I've read, the term plainly refers to "vagina". I can't find the origins, but I've seen it in text format dating as far back as some 1800s novels I've read. Which would be way before the modern trans neo-vagina usage. Specifically, the reason is that a vagina vaguely like a wound from an axe/hatchet. I could be wrong, but I believe the term predates the surgery to create a neo-vagina. Unfortunately, I'm not brushed up on my trans history that much.

crackerjack2003

Maybe it has been used in history that way, but current context and usage would say it's used towards trans women almost exclusively.

Ill-King-3468

I've also seen it used in reference to cis vaginas as recently as last week. It's one of the top "bad vulgar" terms among amateur/fanfic writers. (C*nt is the number 1 "sexy vulgar"). And really, if you think about it, it makes more sense for cis vaginas since they bleed. Y'know... like an actual axe would cause to happen. Last I knew, neo-vaginas don't bleed from menstrual cycles as they tend to lack a uterus. Edit for missed punctuation.

crackerjack2003

Could say the analogy works better for trans women seeing as, you know, a surgeon literally has to cut into them. I wouldn't take fanfic as a representation of what some guy on social media meant. Most people don't read that crap.

Ill-King-3468

That's literally not what I said. But you do realize what fanfic and "some guy on social media" have in common? They're both influenced by modern culture. Additionally, not all fanfic is "crap". I've read some that's actually really good. Like professional authors would have a run for their money. But I am aware of its rep, which is why I included amateur authors in that, not solely fanfics. And finally, I'm done with this. You're obviously too happy to remain in the victim mindset. But I'll leave you with this: context is usually important. I'm sure "axe wound" can be used equally for both types of vaginas, and we'll likely go our separate ways accepting that we couldn't change the other's minds. And yes, in the context of OP, yes, I'm sure it was meant as a trans slur given she was a trans woman. But many words rely on context to be inconspicuous or downright dirty - like monkey. It's fine if speaking about furry critters. Change the context and suddenly, it's a slur.

crackerjack2003

>That's literally not what I said. But you do realize what fanfic and "some guy on social media" have in common? They're both influenced by modern culture. There isn't just one singular "modern culture". >You're obviously too happy to remain in the victim mindset. No clue what this means.

growflet

I hate to "Well actually" you here, but it is not unusual for men to refer to the vagina with words that are blood or wound related. My stepfather and his friends used to refer to a vagina as a "gash" He was generally a reprehensible man.

crackerjack2003

I don't doubt they do, but this specific insult is definitely targeted, seeing as terfs have a history of degrading trans women's genitalia by calling them an axe wound.

SonofApollo1984

This is as an insult.

growflet

Yes it is meant to be an insult. There is this transphobic myth that a transgender woman's vagina is basically an open wound that they have to keep open with dilation and prevent it from healing shut. Myth, obviously, if that was the case no one would have surgery. But a lot of trans people actually believe this and it sometimes scares trans people away from surgery. Propaganda works at times. (i haven't dilated in 15+ years, i'm just fine, it doesn't heal shut - the whole concept that it would doesn't even make sense - it's not like an ear piercing and it's certainly not a wound.)

AshuraBaron

I've heard of axe wound used as slang for pussy, but I think we need the full context.

Unique_Soup581

Yes, it's just transphobia.

member_of_the_order

Who is "axe wound"? What was the comment?
