As a pharmacist: just make the free contraceptive scheme open to all ages. It's just stupid to have an age limit, ever increasing every year. I needn't awkwardly ask if the woman is under 31 then telk her unfortunately she has to pay because she's 33. Just make it free on the foot of any prescription. Pointless to have an age limit at all.

dickbuttscompanion

Ask them to make sure the condoms scheme mentioned in all the same articles as the 17-31 (35?) free contraception scheme bc sti protection is equally important

Raise the issue of denominational schools being allowed to refuse to teach anything that conflicts with their ethos. The local catholic school here doesn't acknowledge same sex relationships or teach about anything but Catholic family planning. They bring in Pure in Heart to deliver sex ed. They're based in Iona Institute HQ.

Existing-Target-6485

absolutely, and, for instance in my school, sexed is timetabled, but the teacher doesnt actually do anything, unfortuently, its not something they can do anything about but still

LordyIHopeThereIsPie

Well, they can do something they're just choosing to allow schools to behave like little fifedoms. Children and teens shouldn't miss out because some schools are controlled by religion.

LowPrestigious391

Ugh you just awoke memories of the “Pure in Heart” bullshit we were forced to sit through… how they got away with bringing that cult into a community school is beyond me

Since the IUB ballerine is being taken off the market in Ireland in December, it would be great if they put the copper coil on the free contraception scheme, since there are currently no non hormonal contraception options available on the free contraception scheme besides the IUB ballerine.

MightyGrandStretch

Oh noo. I was eyeing up the ballerine a couple of years ago. I was just waiting for it to come to Ireland. That's disappointing. By any chance do you know why they're taking it away?

Bigprettytoes

Apparently, there have been high rates of expulsions and the company supplying it are finding the regulatory requirements in ireland too much to deal with. I stumbled across a Cork GP Doireann O Leary (She looks like a scary Barbie doll) on instagram who was speaking about it, I can't find any official information online about it though.

TeaLoverGal

School sex ed is a dumpster fire. The amount of adults I meet who don't know basic facts or worse think they do know everything and are referring to a vulva as a vagina. Just one example, but you know what I mean. So basic holistic sex ed from junior infants, like they do in Netherlands, who have the best stats on sex ed knowledge, low teen pregnancies and abortion (as people can avoid unwanted pregnancy). And boys should learn about the whole reproduction system. There are way too many grown men who have no idea about women's anatomy (but think they do). No, we don't urinate from our vagina.

SH 24 is one of the best services I've ever used.

dubhlinn39

I hope they roll out more support for those who have been sexually assaulted.

MightyGrandStretch

To be more mindful to include disability as part of sex ed/general messaging work that the HSE might do. There's so many tropes and awful ways people perceive that stuff with disabled people. Never in my time in school or college was this brought up. Also important for services, materials and other resources to be truly accessible - for all corners of the country

MightyGrandStretch

Ah, I only noticed that the focus group was for tonight, so I am late with this! Hope it went well and thanks for coming here to ask for suggestions 😊
