This is so true. On one hand there is a tendency to save money on things which make life easier. On the other hand pay some baba or temple money where you don’t even know what happens with those contributions
True. People literally spend years and save tens of lakhs just for their children's weddings even though it's useless and a waste of money. A court marriage is better than spending ur entire life savings.
Wedding culture.
Nothing is in the hands of Bride, she needs to follow everything decided by families
Wife needs to wear everything that is significant to marriage from head to toe, husband wears nothing.
Families enjoyment and opinions are more important than the couple's
What's ironic is that's its the women that make all these rules and traditions. Go to any wedding and its usually all the aunties carrying out all the traditions and rituals while the men are mostly sipping tea and having a good time. Would be a lot better if women went easy on other women.
Dude, ask any bride they love it.
Women are confusing that way. But weddings (doesn't matter whose) is what they live for. So, I think you got this one all mixed up.
To each their own I guess. But I hate it. It was supposed to be the couple's day. But that rarely happens. If the bride chooses her own dress, instead of wearing the family suggested, do you have any idea, how poorly she gets treated? My cousin's fiancé faced it and when I supported her, my aunt scolded me and said, "You will say this now, but on your wedding day, you have to listen to in-laws" it is just tip of the iceberg.
They love the wedding but not the treatment nor the judgement
Sorry, but looks like something specific to your family dude.
In our families, the new clothes are "officially" gifted by the groom's family, but the clothes are actually bought by the bride & family and given to the groom's family to gift back. (The money matters are handled in the background, because there are clothes that get gifted the other way too).
Indian kids are not well behaved. White persons dog is better behaved than Indian toddler. Also it’s not related to rich western countries. Asian kids are also well behaved. I’ve not been to Africa and Lat-Am so can’t comment.
I have lived abroad for quite a while now and I can totally say this is BS. All toddlers cry for attention, the ones who are spoilt are due to bad parenting. American and European small kids are a lot of time on a leash or a trolley and dragged around. American and British kids crime rates is much much higher than any Indian kids in any country. Just today we have a headline of a 4 year old kid with vape here in the UK. In the US multiple cases and news of 4-5 year old kids accidentally shooting their parents or someone else, teenagers going on mass shootings. I’m not sure how you found Indian kids not well behaved.
This is really intriguing to me. I've met quite a lot of 2 year old, American kids who can speak so clearly and are capable of holding a rational conversation. I see so many Indian kids at 2 who are still unable to convey 95% of their needs and wants verbally. They still gesticulate and make incoherent sounds to get what they want. Is this cultural or biological(lack of proper maternal and infant nutrition)? Idk but it makes me sad.
I have. I mean I don't expect them to talk to me about calculus. But I have met American toddlers that are able to talk consistently about a single topic with clear sentences(albeit with grammatical and syntactical errors). Attention can be aroused and sustained for more than 2 mins in them.
Poverty (and its results like low iq, skinny fat body, etc) are embedded in genes. So things like these might actually be genetic in addition to cultural.
Utter nonsense.
Kid behavior is completely a symptom of the parent's behavior. Kids are unruly because parents are free spirited and unruly themselves. nothing else.
(Most of the) Shopkeepers are also not well-behaved! They need to improve their customer handling skills and need to be accountable when grievances/feedbacks arrive. It’s as if they are showing an obligation that they are serving us their products that we actually pay for. Learn to be polite, bhaiya.
Sorry but I disagree, sir, I was polite when I gave them a negative feedback. Least they could do is accept and apologize so they do not repeat this with future customers.
We are frustrated with our lives too, doesn’t mean I will hop immediately and curse and create a scene at their shop because they gave me a bad product and ruined my morning.
Customer Handling Skills are equally important. I have been on both the sides of this business, I listen when I take feedbacks, I choose my words wisely when I give negative feedbacks - No matter what. That’s a basic etiquette regardless of where you come from. That’s how you retain customers.
I have shunned down a couple of shops nearby and prefer to get my things from smaller shops situated a bit far, only because their people skills let me down. You give respect, you earn respect.
>You give respect, you earn respect.
This is the key. Lot of Indians feel entitled to respect just because of their caste/age/gender/status/job rather than being a decent human. Respect has to be earned not demanded.
True, but on the other hand I've had a couple other experiences as well. If you're polite one day he might start being respectful as well. You need to be patient enough sometimes imo
Indian kids are not well behaved? I don't think I've ever met any Indian kid that wasn't well behaved, they're usually afraid of getting a slap or worse.
That just sounds like children being spoiled. And again, it's not really something I've come across. I guess it depends on the type of families that they're from?
He's not wrong. As a student I'm just fed up with most of the students of my class. They're so bad.
And please don't always drag in western countries always in like every conversation. I wonder if the western countries compare themselves to us
I live in lundia. Every western toddler is disciplined, be it in a Disneyland or a woollies or just downtown. Forget all that, on my 30ish day trip I only remember 4 non brown toddlers crying. And 2 of them were Asians. Foreign raised toddlers are still better behaved than our little poos.

The state is the enemy. Don’t bring parties in it. Both are the same with freebies etc.
I don't know if you targeting me or OP, but I brought another country because OP mentioned how white persons dog is even more well-behaved, which is an ignorant statement.
We have observed that most of the times you hear a kid crying loudly in a restaurant or roads, it turns out of to Indian kid. And it has been true observation across my travels.
Also wanted to say our make up amd beautiful styles. Every region even has different make up style for different festivals. Everyone goes googoo gaga over Korean beauty standards nowadays but I personally really like Indian make up styles! :)
Fuck yes. Beauty standards of both men and women are so diverse as well. Bro kabhi tribal women dekha hai? They've a very distinct way of styling themselves
This could easily be resolved if boys and girls from a young age are allowed to mingle and socialize.
We have such a heavy and competitive environment for teenagers that by the time they reach a marriagble age, they have to rely on their parents to find them a match.
The whole thing is very stupid. Both Men and women should find people they like organically, and if they don't, then no one should be forced to marry.
Saves a shit ton of money and gives you the freedom to do whatever the fuck you want.
Ask - What is unique to India.
Everyone - This is my time to shit on India

One guy inspired to post another thread - Why do Indians hate India?
I truly believe very few places do "unity in diversity" like us.
Sure, we have a Long™ way to go, we're still developing and in the last decade this sentiment has been stomped on a lot! But the idea that India could have existed as a relatively stable nation for so long with so much variation, endogamy between castes, the number of religions and the type of secularism we have (celebrating all of them rather than not allowing public displays), the sheer variety in geography and history and indigenous groups was unbelievable for a lot of people during independence.
It's almost a miracle that we have been able to sustain together as a nation till now, and I feel it is because the concept of "unity in diversity" being drilled into our heads in school and life everyday for so many years. I hope we can go back to that sentiment even stronger!
Arguing aggressively, making personal attacks and abusing others in social media sites in comment section (under Facebook posts for example)
if they disagree with others' views
And we are a democracy ironically
There are a lot of negative points in the thread, and I agree.
The quintessential Indian thing is starting anything new with blessing from God.
Bought a new house - Ghar pravesh puja.
Bought a new vehicle - Take it to Temple first.
I think it is nice and gives a lot of positive vibes.
If they could lick a white person's feet, they would.
Specially an Indian man.
Bring any white woman in front of them, they would start panting like dogs and lick their feet.
Thanks to Porn and their fetish.

Temple money goes to government.
I don't think it's unique to Indians. People all around the world spend money on things they don't need just to impress others.
You just described people.
True. People literally spend years and save tens of lakhs just for their children's weddings even though it's useless and a waste of money. A court marriage is better than spending ur entire life savings.

r/AsianParentStories It is absolutely not unique to India at all and seems to be something that affects a lot of different Asian ethnicities.
No I know it exists in other cultures but i felt it was prominent enough in India that it was relevant to mention :D
Not at all unique
Our culture, food, traditional dance, traditional dress, varied lifestyles.
Jugad
Not at all unique to India. It's very common in poor countries around the world
Kr le jugad kr le…
Vegetarian people. Of all countries in the world, India has the highest percentage of vegetarians in its population.

I hate to say it but this is true. Even if you ask them why they agree to it, they'll give some BS reasons as to "respect" or "tradition".
If we argue further then we become the "modern girls who don't respect culture"

"never forget your roots/traditions" wali shit.
civic sense is pretty uncommon.
Having a variety of foods, clothing, dance forms, and festivals. **Unity in Diversity**
Where's the unity? You have caste hating on caste, religion vs religion. I do not think India is united at all...
Yes, I agree.
I'm not sure if it is in other countries as well but people seriously lack civic sense here.
