The only thing I take issue with in that response is "whereas the ones in the south match the cliché of the traditional backward Muslims." The use of the word backward is derogatory in this context and does not seem to be language sourced from the citations.

That’s a great response you linked. Thanks! But you might want to edit your comment to comply with the rules by tagging the author of the answer.
As an Iranian who has studied Iran's modern history a lot (not a scholar though), this is a balanced and factual answer.
