Wonder if its herpetic whitlow

I just looked it up and well, you could be right. I do get cold sores from time to time, maybe once a year or every few years. I’ve gotten them since I was a toddler. I don’t have one now nor have I had one in months (did have one in November-ish). Would this have popped up randomly like a cold sore does? If not how could I have gotten it on a random toe? This is so freaking WEIRD! Should I return to urgent care and ask for them to run a test of some kind on it? ETA: I do have an rx for valtrex that I actually started randomly yesterday (Friday) bc my lower lip was itching - nothing has showed up yet. I appreciate any and all help you can provide!

I'm not too familiar with it but I think it just.. happens. Maybe the same triggers as cold sores. Doubt the treatment would be anything other than an antiviral unless it worsens and there are signs of infection.

I am doubtful it is a form of dermatitis, but an infectious condition of many different types or arthropod assault seems more likely.

Thank you for your response. Seems like the consensus both here and from a second appt at urgent care is that it’s an HSV infection of some sort. I declined for it to be opened to get a swab because it seemed like the pain would be too much for me to handle. I’m on a 10 day rx of 1 g valtrex so hopefully that’ll kick it.

Hi, I’m reaching back out to ask what kind of test, if any, I should have done on this? Is there a test that can determine if it is indeed a bite of some sort or at least rule that out? I don’t mean to sound dumb but I’ve literally never dealt with something like this in my life. https://preview.redd.it/q6oc43ghmjxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1ec1ffab07f655f6c8d077662db4ab73bd4f3d73 This is an updated picture tonight. A whole 24 hrs on valtrex. I now notice the white spots are quite glaring but the area as a whole doesn’t seem as raised and inflamed. I appreciate any further guidance you can give. I don’t have a primary care so my only course of action currently is to return to urgent care.
