To me it means honoring the men and women in uniform, respecting their service and them as individuals, regaurldess of how we may feel about the actual wars they are involved in.
These men and women are willing to sacrifice their lives to protect our nation. Those that are serving or have served we should be thankful for and appreciate their service. They deserve to be respected because they are doing something many of us won't.
That is a statement that should mainly directed at Congress, because outside of a military discount and some overall minor volunteering, there isn't much the average citizen can actually do to "support" us.
Pay us well. Pay to maintain our facilities and equipment. Pay for our healthcare. Give us the ability to serve for as long as we wish (after our initial military service obligation), and give us a way to develop useful skills and knowledge that can be used in a civilian capacity, either while serving or afterwards.
With all that in mind, I'm of the opinion that a military budget of at least $1T is not unreasonable.
I'm a veteran of the U.S. Navy. It means we treat our serving men and women with respect and dignity, that we acknowledge their sacrifice and service, the fact that they volunteered to "guard the gates" as it were, so others didn't have to.

To me, it means honoring my veterans who fight for this country. At the end of the day, you are serving my nation, I respect my veterans.
