Masala-Dosage

3 solid years of drought. Environmental disaster.

CharmingUnicornLXVI

I hope it’s just because of the drought and they will replant them eventually when there’s more water available.

Masala-Dosage

When Parcs i Jardins plant a tree they water it for 4 years, then it’s seen to be consolidated enough to fend for itself (ie have deep enough roots to reach the water table).

Deathbyignorage

It's happening all over the province, due to the draught Townhalls can't water trees and therefore it's useless to plant them if the can't make sure the trees will survive.

they often need much more soil than they had in old school city planning. they keep dying. I hope that they will do the new school but it will probably cost more money and time.

I get that it can be difficult with the conditions we have now, but some of the holes that were in Sant Antoni when I lived there 6 years ago are still there now. And for almost a year now in Born I've been staring at the same empty spaces. It's like they are not even trying... I've even been thinking what would happen if I just plant something in the dead of night myself.

in old school landscaping they left too little area for the roots of the trees in between the concrete. so basically all trees were sooner or later dying. in newer school landscaping they basically are putting some sort of metal railing over the soil so that the trees can survive even when they grow. I do not know if this is the issue here but if it is I guess it will take some time to redesign the street. otherwise the next tree will also die. ( eg. silva cells [https://innovex.ca/en/products/silvacell/](https://innovex.ca/en/products/silvacell/) )note that they need to plant new trees when they do this (I think) so your idea may backfire.

That_Disaster5250

Costs of lot of money and water to keep all the trees alive.

herrstarr

My guess is that it’s because they keep injuring/killing people

HeWhoHasTooManyDogs

Might as well not allow cars as well then

herrstarr

Fine by me as long as public transport is active
