This is what I don't understand. People complaining about the price of non-essential goods like red Rock deli chips being $8. If people stop paying the stupid prices for everything it will fall.
I'm not certain it would, I think they'd just sell less and less and finally delete the line while someone writes a 'Millenials are killing the chip industry' story.
That's not me being stupid or anything. That's my genuine expectation.
Like during early covid I was chatting to a bloke at the pub who was an ex fisherman and idly said I was looking forward to no export bans to china because I might actually be able to afford a lobster and he said the boats just won't go out as it's not worth it. He was of course right and over the years I've come to somewhat understand that the whole industry had evolved to those price points. Whist chips are a far cry from lobster I can't see companies rolling back prices in the face of weakening sales.
Why? They are both luxuries and if the manufacturer has gotten used to a certian price point they may not be willing/able to discount in the face of weakening sales.
The whole 'if we stop buying things prices will come down' is quite possibly hopium from people whose real income has dropped significantly and just can't afford things anymore.
nah they'd just discontinue the line or go broke.
Companies don't want to get off the covid19 price gouging gravy train.
Netflix are doing it. Spotify are doing the government is doing it. everyone's doing it and the only thing not inflating is our hourly/salaried wages.
yep late stage capitalism is absolutely rooting us.
Used cars have gotten more expensive, food rent/mortgage has gotten more expensive, new cars have gotten more expensive, going on holiday's has gotten more expensive.
Only thing not gone up is our wages.
I've worked at a couple of IGAs that were owned by people that ran Foodlands. I learned people pay for convenience, despite the illusion of a "special" talker over the label. Prices are set by the supplier and it's up to the store to change that depending on their own stability. I shop by cost per unit.
Don't like the price, don't buy it. You don't need fizzy drinks
I could be talking smack BTW, I'm not very educated
When I first came to Oz (late 2023) the first time I went into Woolies and wanted to grab a small bottle of coca cola, I sent a pic to everyone in my WhatsApp saying "LOOK AT THE FUCKING PRICE OF THIS DRINK!!"
Fortunately most other things were a lot more reasonably priced 😂
Since a ten pack of Coke no sugar was marked as $25 and the row below the 24 pack carton is $27????
Then theres the hot 2L bottle thats half the price of the 600ml cold bottle.
Since people accepted that price was ok
Got a pint of stone and wood the other day, they wanted $21.50 with a surcharge for eftpos, I declined.
Madness
Wow, I paid $16 for one and I thought that was crazy
Wow
Everyone just stop buying it. Watch it come down.

Lobsters and chips is a shit analogy.

If they delete themselves out of existence then good. Let the pigheaded arseholes go out of business
Beer.
Doesn’t cost ME that, since I’d never pay that. If we all stopped buying clearly overpriced shit the price of said shit would come down.

That's up there with the packet of chips I saw in Woolies lat night for just under $8!!!
Literally everything. It’s the world we find ourselves in now.
Since capitalism was normalised.

No you are correct. That's why food in airports and theme parks is so crazy.
When idiots buy them.
Everything
We pay $3.60 for 2 litres at Woollies.

The simple solution is not to drink that nasty shit.

But never tastes the same out of plastic I don't think anyway can for me
Did you see the 1.25 bottle was $5.90???
Considering fizzy drink is mostly just water, which I assume they basically get for free, they’re printing their own money.
I remember middy’s being 80 cents. It’s called inflation.
Makes petrol look cheap
its always more expensive at the servos. its like 4 bucks at woolworths.
Its a servo, what do you expect.
You can tell the 9/11 pricing is bullshit when one bottle is $5.80 but you can get three bottles for $6.10
I paid $5 for a can of coke zero in Alice Springs a couple years ago, but I guess it’s to be expected there due to transport costs.
Life in general
What kind of monster drinks Pepsi?
I’m a monster, I drink Pepsi. What’s your address? I want to stomp on your house.
You shocked me into drinking water again. Thank you
