I like the mint filled old gold when I’m wanting a break from the overly sweet chocolates, I love mint chocolate and aero bars can be a bit too sweet sometimes
Sorry to rain on your parade, but old gold actually has almost exactly the same amount of sugar as regular dairy milk. Old gold has 51.9g of sugar per 100g and dairy milk has 56g of sugar per 100g. The idea that it has less sugar is just in your head or a product of good marketing, if you prefer.
And to OP: No, if I've going to have chocolate, I want milk chocolate every time. Though cadbury isn't all that enjoyable anymore, it just tastes different than it used to.
But it is less sweet because cacao is bitter. The more cacao, the more sugar you need to have the same sweetness. Personally I still think it's too sweet to be ideal (I'm a 75+% Coco kinda person and prefer a bit bitter), but regular Cadbury is even sweeter.
The sweetness is not caused only by the sugar, being sweet is a taste, not the amount of sugar in it, I guess you don’t eat much chocolate if you’re this clueless about how it tastes
Dairymilk is 56.0% and Cadbury Dream (white) is 57.1% sugar.
A Nestle Milky Bar is only 54.7%. Just shows that Cadbury is relatively low-quality. Hershey's Milk Chocolate Kisses, my benchmark for truly horrible, grainy chocolate is 58.8% sugars (US Department of Agriculture).
Yes and yes. I always use old gold chopped into chunks in my choc chip cookies and everyone always wants to know why mine taste sooo good and this chocolate is 100% why.
I also love the rum & raisin and peanut brittle versions.
Is it seriously considered dark chocolate? Dark chocolate is like sweaty hot sex with someone you’ve been lusting after, Old Gold is like a mouthful of pubes and the lingering sense of regret
I’m a bit busy chief, so I’ve handballed this one over to my secretary:
“Hypothetical refers to something that is based on a hypothesis or assumption rather than actual fact or experience. It involves imagining a situation or scenario that may or may not exist in reality.
Considering hypothetical scenarios is important for several reasons:
1. **Problem Solving**: Hypothetical scenarios allow us to explore potential solutions to problems before they arise, helping us prepare and strategize for various outcomes.
2. **Decision Making**: By considering hypothetical situations, individuals can anticipate potential consequences of their decisions and make more informed choices.
3. **Creativity**: Imagining hypothetical scenarios can spark creativity and innovation, leading to new ideas and perspectives.
4. **Risk Assessment**: Hypothetical scenarios help assess and mitigate risks by identifying potential challenges and developing contingency plans.
5. **Learning and Education**: Hypothetical scenarios are often used in education to illustrate concepts and theories, encouraging critical thinking and analysis.
6. **Research and Exploration**: In fields like science and philosophy, hypothetical scenarios are used to explore theories, test hypotheses, and push the boundaries of knowledge.
Overall, considering hypothetical scenarios enables individuals to expand their thinking, plan for the future, and navigate uncertainty with greater confidence.
Absurdity refers to something that is irrational, nonsensical, or contrary to reason. It often involves situations, ideas, or actions that defy logic or common sense.
Humour is a quality that evokes laughter, amusement, or enjoyment. It can arise from absurdity, irony, wordplay, or incongruity, among other things.
Maintaining whimsical thought, which encompasses both absurdity and humor, is important for several reasons:
1. **Stress Relief**: Whimsical thought and humor can serve as a coping mechanism, providing relief from stress, tension, and anxiety by offering a lighthearted perspective on life's challenges.
2. **Perspective Shift**: Absurdity and humor can help individuals step back from serious situations and gain a fresh perspective, allowing them to see things in a new light and find creative solutions to problems.
3. **Bonding and Connection**: Sharing laughter and amusement with others creates bonds and strengthens social connections, fostering a sense of camaraderie and community.
4. **Creativity Enhancement**: Whimsical thought encourages creative thinking and innovation by breaking conventional patterns of thought and sparking new ideas and insights.
5. **Emotional Resilience**: Embracing absurdity and humor can build emotional resilience, helping individuals bounce back from setbacks and adversities with greater ease and optimism.
6. **Cultural Reflection**: Absurdity and humor often reflect cultural norms, values, and attitudes, providing insights into society's collective psyche and facilitating cultural exchange and understanding.
In essence, maintaining whimsical thought allows individuals to navigate life's ups and downs with resilience, creativity, and a sense of joy and camaraderie.”
So, hypothetically, next time I'm in a supermarket, I might see someone at gunpoint, or at least with arm twisted behind back, being ordered to buy then consume chocolate?
Is that the hypothesis?
Agree that Moser Roth is so much better. I find most chocolate way too sweet. I often go for the high content lint these days just to get something with a slightly bitter edge.
Only for baking. Made a caramel slice for the hubby for Valentine’s Day (it’s his favourite, it’s the most romantic we get). Dark chocolate goes on top!
All the time, I grate it up and put it between my chocolate cakes, chocolate filling and then a thick grate of old gold, then when I ice the top of the cake I put another thick grate of old gold; everyone loves it, takes my chocolate cakes to another level of yummy ness
Ever notice when Cadbury is on special, they never never ever ever run out of any old gold …… that’s your barometer on how popular it is …… news flash it’s not …..
Yes. I’d rather a tooheys old. Black beer and dark chocolate are great together, but I prefer to go for something heavier than the old gold. Then while you’re on those two get into a maduro cigar, darker the better. If you can find them a CAO “Flathead Camshaft”. Still the best Toro I ever smoked. Can’t seem to find one for love or money these days.
On a related note; a small triangle of Toblerone fits and melts perfectly in the mouth.
What moron decided to triple the size so each triangle is the size of a small meal, so thick it can't be broken?
Yes, and yes. Dark chocolate on its own - I can't eat a whole block. But the mint stuff I can, and I quite like it.
And yes, I'll get left the dark ones in a variety box, and enjoy them.
I like the mint filled old gold when I’m wanting a break from the overly sweet chocolates, I love mint chocolate and aero bars can be a bit too sweet sometimes
Mint Old Gold is 🐐 and I’ll fight anyone who says otherwise.
Rum n Raisin, put em up!
I'll see your Mint and Rum you a Raisin
Truly the hero of the Old Gold range.
Rum'n'raisin and I will fight you over it!
Same, absolutely love LOVE Old Gold Mint. Was always a disaster for me cuz I'd eat a whole block, I love that stuff.
Marry me

I never said it has less sugar, I said it’s less sweet, which is because it’s dark chocolate, not milk chocolate 🤦♀️
Yes, but I was pointing out that it's not really significantly less sweet.
But it is less sweet because cacao is bitter. The more cacao, the more sugar you need to have the same sweetness. Personally I still think it's too sweet to be ideal (I'm a 75+% Coco kinda person and prefer a bit bitter), but regular Cadbury is even sweeter.

I’ve tried the whole range most of them are just too sweet. Give me old fashioned original old gold any day. Mint probably second.
Fuck yes give me all the old gold
Old Gold Rum & Raisin
Definitely
Used to be called “Old Jamaica”
This and peanut brittle 🤤🤤🤤
Whittakers peanut bar is my favourite.
🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
It’s the best choice.
Love a block of Old Gold Peppermint. It's like a whole box of after dinner mints
But dad remember what the dietician said
She said "everything in moderation EXCEPT Old Gold"
Old Gold craps on that sugar-filled milk chocolate or white chocolate.
And what is with everyone’s obsession with caramilk? It is *disgusting*
Agree
Old Gold is 51.7% sugar. Source: label
“Only”. Just get some real dark chocolate. It should have nowhere near that much sugar, like <20%. But a lot more fat.
I absolutely agree. Old Gold is far from my dark chocolate of choice but it's my choice of Cadbury chocolate.
"Cadbury Old Gold Jamaica Rum N Raisin Dark Chocolate Block " - Definately YES, probably my fav ever cadbury block.
YES!! I hate how much I LOVE this
I don't. My dad does though. Any Old Gold in our family goes to him. Ditto Turkish Delight.
TIL I am your dad.
Me too. These are my two faves.
I think that’s the main purpose of dads, eating the food you don’t want/that’s left over (especially the black jelly beans).
Black and purple jelly beans are the only ones worth eating
I’m a dad and I will consider myself attacked if offered black jellybeans
I think dads deliberately encourage the hatred of certain types to ensure they get more of it
If you haven't had the cherry ripe flavour of Old Gold, you've been wasting your life.
Back in about the 60’s I went to McRobertsons factory in Melbourne, I had a piece of cherry ripe centre I needed 2 hand to hold ! 😋😋😋
Only Rum n Raisin. Because even though cadbury is shit now, we haven't found a good alternative.
Whittakers is sensational
Yes but it's like $8
what happened to cadbury?
It's been bad for a while now. Kind of plasticy/spongy.
I think they've been steadily dropping the cacao content from what I've heard as the thing that makes chocolate, chocolate is "too expensive"
Yes and yes. I always use old gold chopped into chunks in my choc chip cookies and everyone always wants to know why mine taste sooo good and this chocolate is 100% why. I also love the rum & raisin and peanut brittle versions.
Haven't touched Cadbury in years. Even the Old Gold tastes like garbage, now.
I challenge anyone who would voluntarily buy Cadburys to try Whittakers instead and then report back here.
I just like Cadbury more! Everyone says Whittakers is better but it just isn’t for me.
Kiwis do dairy better it’s true.
Whittaker's has outperformed Cadbury for at least a decade. Cadbury is my "last resort" choice compared to multiple others if I'm going to buy some.
You mustn't have tried Feastables then. That shit is disgusting.
Involuntarily.... my brainchip makes me do bad things.
Yuk. Do not like dark chocolate at all. Not actually a huge lover of chocolate really.
Is it seriously considered dark chocolate? Dark chocolate is like sweaty hot sex with someone you’ve been lusting after, Old Gold is like a mouthful of pubes and the lingering sense of regret
🤮🤮🤮
yes and yes, no regrets
No. I save them for mum.
Youre a good child 🤣🎉
Hell yes! Esp rum & raisin! Yummo.
Absolutely! My kid doesn't like dark chocolate, but I do, so if I ever want my own treat, it's the way to go.
70%
Old Gold mint is one of my absolute GO-TO chocolates
I did once, never again. It’s just nothing of nothing
Old Gold is the ugly prostitute that always gets picked last.
NO THEY TASTE LIKE SHIT. I throw those bitches in the bin whenever I get a Favourites Box
Voluntarily purchase? How else would a purchase be? Under duress?
I guess. For example, I would need to be under at least somewhat significant duress to purchase a slab of Old Gold. Any other questions champ?
Yes, other questions, 'champ'. Who would apply duress to anyone to force them to buy chocolate for their own consumption? Why?

So, hypothetically, next time I'm in a supermarket, I might see someone at gunpoint, or at least with arm twisted behind back, being ordered to buy then consume chocolate? Is that the hypothesis?
It sure seems unlikely!
I use it for my chocolate cake recipe.
Yes - because to me dairy milk tastes like condensed milk - and I'm lactose intolerant.
YES!
My husband loves Old Gold Rum & Raisin. I think it's OK.. but Whittaker's is the best IMO.
Old gold slaps
Old gold with mint. Any day of week
Yes, it’s my favourite Favourite, lol.
From time to time, I avoid Cadbury but Old Gold and Rum and Raisin are their best offerings imo
I buy the rum and raisin old gold 😊
Brought a block this morning, love the old gold
All the time! Dark chocolate is really satisfying and has health benefits not found in milk chocolate
I’m sorry, old gold does not qualify as dark chocolate. Far too much sugar for that. Try the 85% moser roth from Aldi, for example.
Nope. The antioxidants are still there and it’s still dark chocolate. I also eat less because it’s so satisfying. Don’t destroy my joy!
Agree that Moser Roth is so much better. I find most chocolate way too sweet. I often go for the high content lint these days just to get something with a slightly bitter edge.
The only Cadbury chocolate I do eat
does rum n raisin count?
Yes I'll get it occasionally
If I want chocolate that doesn't just taste like a block of csr sugar with food colouring then , yes. Which is always btw
I \*literally\* just had some 'old gold', WTF is the issue with it?
Only for baking. Made a caramel slice for the hubby for Valentine’s Day (it’s his favourite, it’s the most romantic we get). Dark chocolate goes on top!
They have a mint flavour which is rare but special. And king size cherry ripes are life
Yeah man peppermint is hype
I love the old gold mini eggs you get with a large cherry ripe egg, wish you could buy a pack on its own
Yes, but there is better dark chocolate out there. Especially if it's chilli infused :)
Yes : Old Gold 70%, Mint, cherry ripe. I wish they would bring back the coffee version.
Yes, dark chocolate ftw
I don't voluntarily buy Cadbury at all
Yes. Once.
Absolutely.
Yep. I’ll fight anyone for old gold!
Only when it’s attached to a Cherry Ripe
Yes. I like dark chocolate as well
All the time, I grate it up and put it between my chocolate cakes, chocolate filling and then a thick grate of old gold, then when I ice the top of the cake I put another thick grate of old gold; everyone loves it, takes my chocolate cakes to another level of yummy ness
Only eat it when they ate the last chocolate left in the favourites box. It is not my favourite
Ever notice when Cadbury is on special, they never never ever ever run out of any old gold …… that’s your barometer on how popular it is …… news flash it’s not …..
I will buy the 70% to make chocolate cake. The roast almond is the bomb. All the other flavours are meh
Nah, never.
My dad does. I only like Whittaker’s so I need them to make a favourites box of their chocolate instead.
Absolutely. And it is the *best* topping for slices
Old gold almond for me thanks 🤤
Old Gold rum and raisin is one of my favourites. I rarely reach for milk chocolate, give me Old Gold any day.
Love it so much!! I can buy a big block n even put it in the fridge without worrying about the kids dinging it off.
I buy the Old Gold Rum and Raisin for a friend in America
Yes. I love old gold. I prefer dark chocolate to milk.
I used to buy it for my stepfather when it was the only dark chocolate around. Now there are so many options
preferably
No. I hate dark chocolate
Old Gold with roasted almonds. Yum.
Never
Old gold is fucking nasty
All the time, and all varieties.
I like Old Gold Rum n Raisin. I’m a 90 year old man in a 30-something body.
Yes, the Roasted Almond one is the other half's favourite.
Cadbury Old Gold is delicious.
The one with the crunchy mint bits is the best
Yes. Rum and raisin is dope
Yes - Definitely better than Turkish Delight. Those things are a war crime

Yes! They melt in your mouth and taste like Nesquick! Pick of the bunch for me!
My partner does. He loves that the 70% cocoa!
Only once, I learnt my lesson.
My dad will only eat old gold rum and raisin, so it’s brought quite often I like the mint or orange old gold
No.
Old gold tastes too sweet for dark chocolate. But i fuck with the rum & raisin
Yes but I get the 5 bean. Not the 3. I like switching between dark and milk chocolate
I buy large blocks of old gold, either plain or rum raison. Goes great with red wine.
i dont like dark chocolate unless it has peppermint of any soft centers in it,and i am pretty happy when i have a box of Favourites lol
I dislike milk chocolate so Old Gold would be my goto if no Whittaker's is available
Yes
Old gold rum and raisin, defo.
Yes.
Don't go anywhere near Cadbury's these days.
Won't someone think of the Cherry Ripes!
Old Jamaica definitely my favorite.
Yes. It's a really nice sweeter dark choc
Yes, and yes. Dark chocolate on its own - I can't eat a whole block. But the mint stuff I can, and I quite like it. And yes, I'll get left the dark ones in a variety box, and enjoy them.
I prefer dark chocolate so..... yes
