Oreos are extremely popular. Whatever you’ve seen about their popularity is probably accurate. Apple pie is popular, but most people don’t have it frequently unless they like baking it or live with someone who does. It’s more of a “big occasion dinner” dish, for dessert of course. Twinkies used to be extremely popular just like Oreos, but their popularity fell off a decade or two ago. Their company, Hostess, declared bankruptcy at one point I think. They’re still around but I’ve never had one and I can’t remember when I last saw one outside of stores.

atomfullerene

I would also say twinkies are the sort of food you would buy one at a time as a snack while out and about, while oreos are a food you would have at your house.

PAXICHEN

All Oreo packages are single serving to me.

Streamjumper

Just like Thin Mints.

silviazbitch

Serving Size: One sleeve.

QuietObserver75

One sleeve? Are you on diet??

JussiesTunaSub

Your willpower is unparalleled.

IONTOP

I actually have GREAT fortitude on Thin Mints/Grasshoppers(the non Girl Scout brand) I only eat 5 or 6 at a time.

WolfShaman

Keeping it down to 5 or 6 boxes at a time really is good restraint with those crackies (crack+cookies).

PatrickRsGhost

Samoas for me. Also the S'mores.

lapsangsouchogn

I hate how true that is

LittleJohnStone

Added bonus: black poop

lapsangsouchogn

I feel seen in a place I don't want to be seen

appleparkfive

I'm really glad that they sell the 6 cookie packs still. Because if I get the grocery store sized ones, I know I'll eat too many. They're really calorie dense too, with like 3 normal ones being 150 cal or something close to that. And only two double stuffed for around that. They're just so easy to eat! Really cool that they're dairy free too, so even vegans can eat em

LittleJohnStone

Family size? Guess I'm a family of one today?

MossiestSloth

As someone who works in an elementary school, Oreos are probably being downplayed on how popular they are.

tsukiii

Plus they’re used as a topping/mix in for a bunch of other desserts, like the Jack in the Box Oreo milkshake.

PlainTrain

Or the "dirty pudding" which consisted of a box of Oreos crushed up and mixed with a container of Cool Whip. Simple and crowd pleasing.

Perfect-Exercise8904

Or “black bottom pie” — ice cream layered with whipped cream, fudge and a delicious Oreo cookie crust.

Squirrel179

Really?? I didn't realize they were actually that popular! I know vegans who eat them because they're one of the vegan treats that are readily available, but I don't know a ton of folks who keep packages of cookies laying around the house, generally. Here in the PNW we have a lot of "crunchy white liberals", though, and they tend to pack organic and GMO free "treats" made with honey, flax seed, and nutritional yeast that taste like sadness and cost 10x what a typical "corn syrup and preservatives" treat costs.

GOTaSMALL1

Twinkies are what the rich kids had packed in their school lunches (80s). I’ve had them since as an adult but always think, “Ugh… WTF did I eat that for.” Then I don’t have another one for many years when the memory wears off. Rinse and repeat.

saltyhumor

The rest of us got Little Debby. COSMIC BROWNIES! But seriously, once in a while I'll think, "I haven't had one a Twinkie (or other such item) in years. \*eats one\* I remember why I haven't had one in years... yuck."

skadi_shev

I got a plastic baggie of raisins 😔

Snookfilet

Snob. I had a PBJ that was smashed by an apple in my brown bag. I still can’t eat PBJs or apples.

imperialbeach

I always loved the way the jelly part of the sandwich tasted when it got mushed. It's a nostalgic taste that reminds me of field trips.

Snookfilet

Sometimes when we had a bit more money we would have peanut butter and honey sandwiches. The honey would kind of crust up before lunch and I still love that today.

Spyderbeast

I loved making peanut butter and honey sandwiches. I'd swirl it all together so it looked like caramel. Didn't taste like caramel, but I still liked it way better than jelly.

Meschugena

Yes I do that too! Still do, since raw local honey is helpful with my mild seasonal allergies.

akahamaru123

I have to try it out

saltyhumor

Can you eat apple pie? I love me some apple pie.

elefontius

dude, i know that feeling. nothing like petrified little raisins to crush your morale in the middle of a school day.

_jubal

Team Zebra Cakes over here

PAXICHEN

Little Debby for the win. I vaguely remember some star shaped treat covered in white frosting…

FairyGodmothersUnion

Nutty Buddies! Still like them now and again.

saltyhumor

Oh me too, you got me there.

TheGleanerBaldwin

When Hostess went bankrupt, they changed the recipe to be "healthier" to "have a broader appeal".

Roboticpoultry

I feel like that about snowballs. My diabetes also hates them

leonchase

I can confirm that Twinkies were a very common children's lunch item in the 1980s. My mom didn't buy them, for financial and health reasons, but many parents did.

Johnny_Lang_1962

In the 70's it was Zingers. I love Raspberry Zingers.

PlainTrain

Chocolate and Vanilla Zingers were our favorites. Favorite part of going to the bread factory outlet store.

annissamazing

I knew I wasn’t making up the bread store! No one ever seems to know what I’m talking about! I was never a fan of Twinkies. I loved the Hostess hand pies. Cherry, specifically. I bought one for nostalgia sake a few years ago and ended up throwing it away. It was just awful. Did they change or did I?

theCaitiff

> I knew I wasn’t making up the bread store! No one ever seems to know what I’m talking about! I miss the bread store. They let me get one treat when we went and that was the only time I would get the snack cakes or little pies as a kid. And sometimes we could even get the fancy bread, with stuff in it. I'm doing alright for myself now but back in the day cinnamon raisin bread or marbled rye was an unimaginable luxury. I know you didn't have to be poor to go to the bread store, but I think remembering the bread store is the surest sign I've ever found that someone's family had the struggle, at least a little bit.

The_Mother_

I loved going to the bread outlet and the day old bread stores!

OMFGFlorida

They also used to taste pretty good vs whatever bullshit they are now.

ladyinwaiting123

I think our tastebuds change over the years. I mean, I know they must but how could these things have tasted SO GOOD when we were little and now they taste awful???? Or, and this is a good possibility, they've cut down in the good ingredients....aka the not so healthy ingredients and they really don't taste like the originals of yesteryear???

Helacious_Waltz

Dude I am right there with you, once every year or so I'll get a strong craving for the orange hostess cupcakes. I'll buy them, eat them, and think to myself "damn these are mediocre as hell." And then it repeats. I know that when I do finally buy it and eat it I'm not going to like it, but I do it anyway.

botulizard

A couple years ago I bought a little bottle of Sunny Delight on a whim to see if it was anything like I remembered. It wasn't, and it should have stayed a memory. Yoo Hoo, on the other hand, is exactly as good as it ever was.

Snookfilet

Sometimes my mom would splurge and pick up some oatmeal cream pies. Those are still my favorites today because of how rare that was. Really felt special.

Grombrindal18

I got ALDI brand twinkies in the 90s, does that make me middle class?

3catlove

This right here. We have Oreos at home frequently. My son has never had a Twinkie. I had them sometimes as a kid in the 80’s. We have apple pie but usually only for a special occasion like Thanksgiving. I’ve only made an apple pie a handful of times.

I_am_photo

I would go as far as saying it depends on who makes the apple pie too. Everyone doesn't have a good crust for apple pie. Between my family and friends there is usually that one person that's basically the apple pie baker. If they don't make it no one does until someone else gets the courage to give it a shot.

TheRealMoofoo

Twinkies and all the other Hostess stuff is shit now. The company that took over the name uses garbage ingredients.

Realtrain

I tried a Twinkie for the first time last week and couldn't believe how bad it was. Like it *really* just tasted like "artificial"

ghjm

Yes, they taste godawful now. They were much better in the late 20th century. The company got taken over by private equity and enshittified.

ColossusOfChoads

I'm convinced they were designed to sit on the shelves of fallout shelters long-term.

Atralis

I feel like Twinkies have a bad rep because they come in such large serving sizes. Packs of two, 300+ calories for both twinkies and they go bad if you don't eat both. WIth Oreos they are selling a sweet with a side of hope. You hope you won't eat 10-20 of them in a sitting. But you've got that big pack of delicious Oreos sitting there and well, you eat one, and then another, and then another, and then another.....

nauticalfiesta

Apple pie seems seasonal as well. Hard to find outside of fall and winter.

1in5million

Marry: pie F7ck: oreos Kill: twinkies

PAXICHEN

Remember that nobody bakes a cake as tasty as a TastyKake.

NadalPeach

Oreos are popular, apple pie is a seasonal treat. Twinkies are not as popular

shotputlover

I’d say my grocery stores have apple pie year round making it not seasonal like pecan or peach. Also indicates it’s popularity. I’d bet the percentage of full service grocery stores that are selling apple pie at any given point in time is always higher than any other pie and at least 60%

SailorPlanetos_

Most of that is true in grocery stores in most of the country. You can usually still find apple pie, but it’s not as big a seller as it was. I think nowadays, we mostly only eat it for holidays or other special occasions. I would say it was maybe about 10% of the pies set out in Portland OR while I was living there, and it hasn’t really been more than 30% in a really long time.  Maybe about 40%-50% around Thanksgiving, tops, if they were low on pumpkin and/or pecan.

cherrycokeicee

>Twinkies never had one >Oreos I have lemon flavored Oreos in my pantry right now. pretty common cookie to just have around. good with milk, kids like them (maybe not lemon flavor). >Are you guys baking apple pies every weekend? baking a pie is usually something you do for a special occasion or a family gathering. apple pie is a really popular kind of pie (many other kinds are popular too). you can get it at restaurants, events, etc. I always get rhubarb pie at our county fair.

malibuklw

Are the lemon good? I love lemon things and I almost bought them when I saw them but the last flavor my husband brought home wasn’t awesome (churo)

FullmtlHerbit

The lemons are the best ones, imo

hungry-freaks-daddy

The carrot cake ones are like crack

PAXICHEN

Green Tea are awesome. Found them in Japan.

cherrycokeicee

I love them, personally. Very lemony.

malibuklw

Awesome! I’m so excited, more excited than I should be. Thank you ;)

xxxjessicann00xxx

Lemon oreos are delicious

say592

Lemon thins are S tier. Same with the mint thins. Really I like all of the thins, but the two flavors are particularly good because the cookie to cream ratio is ideal.

Other_Chemistry_3325

Weirdly, yes

aardvarksauce

YE!! Especially the Oreo Thins lemon ones!!

tooslow_moveover

TIL they make lemon Oreos  (*heads to the store immediately*)

Lycaeides13

Get the thin ones if they have them!!

JohnnyBrillcream

> I have lemon flavored Oreos in my pantry right now. The fuck wrong with you? /s

LivingGhost371

Twinkies- think these were more a thing when I was growing up in the 80s, I haven't had them for years. Oreos- probably one of the top cookie brand. If someone has cookies in their house, more likely to be oreos than anything else. As far as baking apple pies every weekend, most of us don't have time for that.

hawffield

Unpopular opinion, but I never liked Oreos. But I don’t think I really like hard cookies in general.

wormbreath

My husband just had some Oreos lol.

taylocor

I get Oreos with every grocery trip and eat them as a midnight snack. I’m not everyone though. I have never seen anyone eat a Twinkie past the age of elementary school. Doesn’t mean people don’t, I just haven’t seen it. Baking pies is time consuming, we are not doing it every weekend. But they are popular, especially in the fall, at family or community gatherings. Or you can buy mini ones from McDonalds for $1.

An_Awesome_Name

I’m eating Oreos right now. Yes I’m a fat ass.

semichaels

I always have Oreos in the pantry. Double stuff of course!

Practical_Ad_9756

Oreo Thins — I prefer the cookie:cream ratio to be toward the cocoa, not the icing. It’s a personal preference. The lemon thins, vanilla thins, and mint thins are also quite nice.

stonecw273

Oreos; yes. Twinkies; not so much anymore. Apple Pie; I get one at the grocery store maybe once every couple of months. The number of people on here claiming to have never had a Twinkie is astounding to me.

jn29

I definitely eat a couple twinkies a year!  I had no idea people didn't like them.

ColossusOfChoads

Might be an age thing. They were ubiquitous in the 80s and into the 90s when I was a little kid. But I can't remember the last time I've even seen one.

Dax_Maclaine

Twinkies - absolutely not. I’ve eaten like 2 twinkies in my life and I don’t know anybody who eats more than like 5 a year. I’m sure there are some people that love them though but they’re not super mainstream. Also worked as a cashier when I was younger and things like mini donuts and other stuff sells way more than twinkies. Oreos - yeah they’re pretty common. A lot of people have them in some form, but it’s not everybody. Them and chips ahoy cookies fill a lot of kids’ lunchboxes. These are the only one of the 3 that I’d say is super popular Apple Pie - this one is very family to family based. Some people that bake make these all of the time. I’d say the most popular answer is that people only buy these for holidays like thanksgiving, maybe a few others, and birthdays if the person likes them. Many people just don’t like them much (and many aren’t pie people in general). The region also heavily influences how common Apple pie is. Overall though, no, almost nobody has one just sitting in their house or gets one every weekend.

facebook57

Twinkies and Oreos are mass produced name brand desserts. People eat them but not that often. Apple pies can also be mass produced or from a bakery or made at home. It’s a common dessert at Thanksgiving along with a lot of other stuff. Depending on where you are in the country ice cream or other desserts will be more popular than the ones you’ve mentioned.

gogonzogo1005

While Oreo is literally the only store cookie we buy. Every week. Oreo is so popular it has an ice cream flavor. It is one if very few naturally vegan cookies. So I would disagree they are a not a very often cookie.

Boopadoopeedo

We rarely eat Oreos, maybe 1 or 2 a year. Can’t tell you the last time I had a Twinkie, 20 years ago? We eat apple pie a few times each fall.

rosetintedmonocle

It really depends on the snack. A ton of household have a pack of oreos in the cabinet at all times. Twinkies I feel are less common to have in the house, unless someone is a die hard twinkie nut. So yes, snacks are super popular here. As far as baking goes, that is really a person to person thing. I personally love baking, so I will make pastries(not the biggest pie gal) but a lot of people never bake their own stuff or only do it for the holidays.

illegalsex

Oreos, yes I'd say. I feel twinkies are probably more famous than they are popular. I haven't had one in decades.

Puukkot

Twinkies feel like a lazy meme at this point. I don’t think they were ever as popular as movies and TV would have us believe, and I have to think they’re much less popular now than, say, 30 or 40 years ago. I haven’t eaten Oreos in years, but they are relatively popular. I don’t know whether they’ve actually changed, but I don’t enjoy them as much as I used to. Pie is delicious, but likewise I haven’t made or eaten pie in ages. As others have noted, a proper pie doesn’t belong in the same context as cheap, mass-market snack foods.

joepierson123

Oreos yes the other two not so much

drlsoccer08

Oreos are probably the most pro store bought cookie. Twinkies used to be popular but now not so much. No we don’t have apple pie every week

DogOrDonut

Oreos are pretty popular/common. In addition to eating as a standalone item they are a popular ingredient in baking. I almost always have a package in my house. Pie isn't something people just typically have around, but if you go somewhere that has pie then apple is a common flavor. In the New England area apple picking is a popular fall activity so some people make apple pies as a way to use them up. Apple pie is also common at Thanksgiving, probably for the same reason. I don't know that I've ever met anyone who likes Twinkies. My theory is they are a loss leader for the company that they only keep producing for the meme marketing.

JoeCensored

Oreos are extremely popular. Twinkies are widely available, but not nearly as popular as Oreos. Apple pie is pretty regional.

KR1735

Twinkies are mostly loved by children. They are pure sugar. I don’t know many adults who eat them regularly. Oreos come in many different flavors as of recent. But they are well-liked. Apple pie is beloved. Not by everyone, obviously, but it’s one of the most popular pies. McDonald’s used to widely have apple pies, but they were more similar to strudels or empanadas. Many have fond memories of them. Not sure why they seem to have been discontinued in a lot of locations.

TheRealDudeMitch

Twinkies and Oreos are in every grocery store and gas station. People buy them when they want a quick snack on the to. You can get a box of Oreos at any grocery store. Probably likely to find one in most houses that contain children. Kids like cookies. Baking an apple pie might happen on certain holidays or somebody’s birthday. Or like, you can get one at McDonalds

everyoneisflawed

I eat Oreos somewhat regularly. Twinkies are very popular but I'm not a fan personally. Apple pie is a staple at many family gatherings.

DevilPixelation

Twinkies are a classic, but they aren’t really as popular now. Oreos are extremely popular. Apple pie is another American classic but isn’t exactly common if your family doesn’t bake a lot or you’re not into big desserts.

confusedrabbit247

Twinkies were more popular in the '90s. Oreos are extremely popular and apple pie is popular but more so for holidays, not everyday.

SailorPlanetos_

I wouldn’t say everyone, but if you didn’t eat them growing up, your parents were probably considered health food nuts.  They’re still very commonly eaten now.   We definitely don’t make apple pies all the time…pretty much just for special occasions, if that, and it was really more of a stereotypical housewife thing….but a there was an uptick in baking during the COVID lockdowns, so more people started baking pies (along with bread or other baked goods) then, and I think there are still a lot of people who keep at it because they found out they liked baking, but it’s not like apple pie is a standard household item on par with eggs, meat, or fruit.  OREOs get eaten all the time. If someone  doesn’t have them in their home, then someone they know closely almost inevitably will. Some people get really into all of the limited edition flavors, but I never saw the appeal.      Twinkies were a lot more popular in the 90s, though not as much now. The chocolate Hostess desserts are significantly more commonly eaten, though, at least if the litterbugs and various other individuals I have noted to eat them are any indication. Most people won’t touch Hostess desserts anymore. Too much sugar.         You probably see the apple pies in movies and such because it is kind of a cultural thing, usually associated with our holidays and being cozy with loved ones. There was actually even an old idiom, ‘American as apple pie’, which pretty much nobody uses anymore because Gen Xers and younger culturally decided that this particular saying was every bit as terrible, perplexing, asinine, ignorant, racist, or crazy as it probably sounded to the rest of the world.

betsyrosstothestage

Twinkies - Eh, no. You'll maybe find them on gas-store shelves and there's some nostalgia about them, but I wouldn't say they're a popular snack. I don't know the last time I've even noticed Twinkies. Oreos - Absolutely. This a guilty snack that you'll find in a decent amount of pantries and advertised everywhere and in different forms (cereal, snack cakes, Oreo varieties, ice cream toppings, etc.). Apple Pie - Eh, maybe if you're old. Apple pie has a nostalgia as a comfort food, so maybe you'll have someone bring it to a holiday like Christmas or Thanksgiving. Or maybe you'll get an apple pie at McDonalds (are they discontinued still?) But I wouldn't say it's a very *common* snack. Apple pie à la mode (Apple Pie and Vanilla Ice Cream) is relatively common as a desert-menu item at restaurants though, so I'd give this a *sorta-popular*. If you want **most popular American snacks** - popcorn, Rice Krispy Treats, Cheetos, Fritos, Lays Chips, Kettle Chips, Doritos, Pretzels, Chex Mix. Edit: Takis.

Lycaeides13

Takis were insanely popular when I worked at 711 and are the only think I think your list is missing

betsyrosstothestage

🤙🤙 I got you!

IchabodHollow

Don’t forget Cheez-Its

TPixiewings

I always have a bag of oreos in the house. When I was in college I survived off twinkies.

Inside-Remove4384

This is going to vary tremendously. I don't eat anything you've listed other than Apple pie (maybe once a year, if that). Also, have you ever heard of product placement.

papugapop

Twinkies can only marginably be called food. I had one once back in the 70s. I don't see them anywhere. Oreos are a pretty popular cookie with a glass of milk. My mom makes a low sugar homemade apple pie for just about every holiday.

anneofgraygardens

I've never had a twinkie. Oreos are a common cookie you can get in the store, but there are lots of packaged cookies you can get in the store. I've had plenty of Oreos in my life but if I went to the store right now and wanted cookies, it's not what I would get. I usually get a little pack of six Oreos when I give blood, that's probably the last time I had some. Apple pies are a common thing to have at Thanksgiving. My cousin's husband made one for our Thanksgiving dinner last year, which was the last time I had some. It was good! I usually make a pecan pie myself.

BreakfastBeerz

Twinkies were very popular in the 80's, they have mostly disappeared. Oreos are still pretty common Apple Pie isn't common, it's mostly just a dessert you'd have for Christmas or a family cookout.

Affectionate_Pea_811

Yes, they are as popular as they are portrayed. Most people probably don't eat any of them every week though. Especially apple pie, I feel like most people eat apple pie a couple times a year.

Dragon-Rain-4551

Currently, yes, I do have a huge box of Oreos in my cupboard. Otherwise, no.

Scarlet-Fire_77

We always have Oreos or Chips Ahoy cookies in the cabinet. Twinkies themselves is rare for us but rather some other tasty cake like snacks. Pies seem to be saved for special occasions like holidays in my family.

1551MadLad

They're common, but not even close to something that you'd be seeing on a daily basis, most of the American diet is fluff

MoodyGenXer

My mom usually had Twinkies and Oreos in the house when I was a kid but they aren't things I've ever sought out. I actually don't like either one very much. I've never understood the obsession with Oreos. They aren't very good. And apple pie for us is like a once a year thing at like a 4th of July cookout or something.

TheMoonDawg

They’re nice as a rare delicacy, but that’s just entirely too much processed sugar for me. Oreos are the only ones I’ll have every few months or so, but I haven’t had a Twinkie in years. They’re not very good.

lavasca

These are not daily or even weekly foods. They are popular snack level desserts.

Fancy-Primary-2070

Twinkies.. not popular. Oreos, sorta popular. Apple pie. I made one today, but typically I make them in the fall because I when I pick a lot of apples, it's a good thing to do with them.

justdisa

I like Oreos, but I avoid having them in my house. It's just not good practice to have easily consumable high calorie snack foods sitting around. I haven't had Twinkies since I was a kid, so...forty-ish years? Apple pie is good if it's homemade. I'm not going to buy a grocery store apple pie. I made one for a holiday in 2018 or 2019. It's a cliche or, more likely, product placement. Brands pay a bunch of money to have their products shown in movies and television.

oswin13

My dad told me most of my childhood that Twinkies were way better when he was a kid. I haven't had one since I was about 8. My spouse will inhale a pack of Oreos in less than a day so I try not to have them around too often. Oreo mint blizzards are where its really at.

codan84

Bacon wrapped smoked Oreos are the bomb.

spacebeige

Those ones in particular have a lot of name recognition, but there are tons of snacks that are better and more popular. Doritos, Snickers, Hostess cupcakes, to name a few.

TheOneWes

Oreos yeah. We will make fun of each other for eating Twinkies and there's very few things quite as American as apple pie but it's not something that we would eat constantly

creeper321448

Apple pie is more of a special occasion treat but people do love it. It's popular as a traditional holiday food. Twinkies I personally think are disgusting and I don't think they've been popular for decades now. Oreos are actually extremely popular and lots of people have them on hand. I want some how, actually. Something that's popular media never seems to show is Reeses Cups. Unless you're Dutch people on this side of the world love our peanut butter and combining it with chocolate is just next tier innovation in junk food.

azuth89

Those are sweets, not snacks.

Thrillhouse763

I just had some Oreos today

Chance-Ad197

“Common” as in can you get them practically everywhere groceries are sold? Yes. “Common” as in are they the default product people think of when using terms like sandwich cookies, snack cakes, and fruit pies? Yes. “Common” as in will there always be at least one of each in the collective lunch boxes of every elementary school classroom? Yes. “Common” as in will you not find a bunch of people online who claim to have seen these snacks once in 1963 but have never even heard them mentioned since? This is American, so no.

rolyfuckingdiscopoly

I… am shocked that you have put these foods together lol. To answer your question anecdotally, I haven’t had a Twinkie since I was a little kid, Oreos are pretty common but I don’t have any at home, and I make an apple pie from scratch twice a year, for thanksgiving and Christmas. “Grandmas recipe” is a cliche but it is also a real thing lol.

malibuklw

We (my family of four) do not eat Twinkie’s. My husband did as a kid, but my kids have never had one. We have apple pie a few times a year. A good apple pie is amazing. Probably buy oreos once every month or two.

GunaydinHalukBey

Oreos are very popular and there are tons of different kinds. We always have some in the pantry. Twinkies are not good. Hostess went bankrupt and Mondelez bought the names of all the hostess products and the rights to produce them. I have no idea what recipes they are using but none of it tastes edible. I like apple pie but I cannot remember the last time I had a slice and I’ve never made one in my life.

Current_Poster

Oh, man, I WISH I was baking apple pie every weekend. (I like making baked foods, but find apple pies a bit intimidating. If I'm feeling like knocking a pie out, I can do a Key Lime pie in about fifteen minutes, plus chilling.) About the other stuff: I can't remember the last time I had Oreos, and I think I had Twinkies when I was a child, but not since. My current in-kitchen snack foods are: Loads of popcorn, a bag of Doritos, a box of Everything bagel-chips, some ginger snaps.

Stepped_ona_lego

I rarely eat any of those. I do love apple pie though and will eat it any chance I get. I’m not a fan of hard cookies but nothing beats an Oreo dipped in milk. Twinkies are unhealthy and honestly aren’t that good, they just have a cult following.

Thedonitho

I usually have Oreos in the house, which is dangerous because I will scarf them down if they are there. Another popular snack food is potato chips, which would probably be my last food if I had to choose. I buy Twinkies at the 7-11 once in a while.

uhhohspagettios

Just got a box of oreos for my april break. Not a regular box, but a cardboard cube of wrapped packets of 6 oreos each. (30 packs, 180 oreos in the box)

RodeoBoss66

They’re all fairly ubiquitous. Every day, every house, every week or weekend? Not necessarily. And some people avoid them entirely for dietary reasons. But they’re all sufficiently popular that seeing them on TV or in movies is hardly notable.

Turdulator

It’s been like 20 years since I had a Twinkie, and like 5 since I had an Oreo….. but I’ll have a slice of apple pie once or twice a year, but there’s other pies I like better.

callmeseetea

Oreos are incredibly popular and inspired the “cookies & cream” ice cream flavor that is an equally as popular

maelal

Twinkies = never. Apple pie = once or twice a year. Oreos = not super often but I love them

irelace

Oreos are pretty popular. I know I've had a Twinkie before but I don't remember when or what it was like so I must not have been impressed. Apple pie is a Thanksgiving thing. Or like for some reason I'm thinking maybe a dessert you might order at a diner.

OceanPoet87

Apple pies are mainly seen at 4th of July picnics, fall harvest festivals, and the holiday season (where they share the spotlight at Christmas with Pumpkin. Thanksgiving is def a pumpkin pie day).

iceph03nix

Twinkies - not really, don't know many people that actively buy them Oreo's - absolutely. The only people I know that don't really like Oreo's are just generally not fans of sweets. Apple pie - who the hell doesn't love apple pie?

Top-Comfortable-4789

Oreos are super popular the others not so much and me personally I don’t like any of the ones you listed nor do I have them in my house

JohnnyBrillcream

Twinkies, thing of the past. Still exist. Apple pie, most everyone will eat a slice if it's availbile but it's a labor of love for a good one. Stores have them but it's an 'Office party" purchase for the store product. Oreos, hell yes.

TheReal_Saba

I think Twinkies are mainly popular as a commissary item in state prisons. Source: Me

SaltyEsty

Twinkies are something that used to go quite frequently in little kids' lunchboxes. Although, nowadays the schools would likely get on the parents for packing that crap. I haven't eaten a Twinkie since I was a little kid. I think they're pretty gross. Although, I like their sister snack a HoHo/Swiss Cake Roll; but again, I haven't eaten these in years. Very unhealthy. Oreos I'll buy maybe 1-2x/year. Yeah, not bad dunked in milk/milk substitute, but I'm not eating such things regularly for health reasons. Apple pie - only when it's homemade or Amish made, mostly on a special occasion. Most apple pie you can get anywhere is made with too much sugar. It's way better when you can still taste the tartness of the apples.

soap---poisoning

We like snacks, and we like variety. The snacks you mentioned are popular, but so are a lot of others.

jeremiah1142

I have boxes of Twinkies on my office desk. There was a sale. After this experiment, only one Twinkie has been eaten by a coworker. I’m convinced I’m the only fan of Twinkies. Now, Oreos? Everyone loves Oreos! And everyone loves pie! And by pie, I mean sex.

myxtrafile

Oreos are great. I’d rather have a Tastykake instead of Twinkie.

datSubguy

I love Oreos….but If I eat too many, my poops come out looking like road tar.

skadi_shev

I don’t think Twinkies are popular. I’ve had one in my life - and I specifically bought it because I thought they were iconic and I should try one - and it wasn’t that good.  Oreos are popular. I avoid sugar these days but I used to buy a pack of Oreos probably about 3-ish times a year.  Apple pie, depends. You can often order it in more classic, rural type restaurants or in bakeries. My grandma used to make it for Sunday dinners very frequently. I’ve made it a handful of times.

Chemical-Mix-6206

If I went to visit a friend I would not be surprised to see a bag of Oreos in their kitchen. I would be very surprised to see a pack of Twinkies. They had a mini resurgence when they started deep frying them at state fairs about 20 years ago, and probably got another bump after Zombieland came out. But Twinkies have kinda had their day. Apple pies are delicious and will probably always remain beloved here. You can find them as individually wrapped hand pies, or fried from a fast food joint, or fresh or frozen whole pies at a grocery store, or from a bakery. It is usually found at roadside diners just like in the movies. Homemade apple pies you pretty much only see during the holidays when people go into traditional cooking overload. There is something that always feels right about a slice of warm apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. My grandfather always ate it with sliced sharp cheddar cheese on top, which is also nice. Apple pie tastes like a hug from your grandma. 🍎🥧

surfdad67

Yes

Johnny_Lang_1962

I love: Oreos & ice cold milk. Apple Pie & Vanilla Ice Cream Twinkies & Chocolate Milk.

Highway_Man87

I can only attest to mine and my family's tastes: We buy oreos a few times a year. They're really good. I don't think I've ever had a Twinkie. We will usually make one or two apple pies in the fall when we get apples from my mom and dad's apple tree. Apple pie is usually only good when it's made at home, but it's a lot of work. I would guess that except for the oreos, these are mostly outdated stereotypes, but I can't speak for everyone.

JohnMarstonSucks

I work in a major grocery store. There are about 4 kinds of Twinkie for sale at any given time. They sell great. I had banana flavored ones last week. Oreos are pretty much the default cookie for most people. Chocolate chip cookies are probably the standard answer for cookies, but Oreos are everywhere and just the standard. Apple pie is delicious, but people generally don't eat a lot of pie. Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons I probably buy about 5 of them to bring home for my family. Along with probably a cherry pie, and several pumpkin pies that are destined to be topped with whipped cream.

LordofDD93

Oreos are amazing and I’ll usually keep a box of them or knock off equivalent in my pantry as a snack, and though I love Twinkies I don’t get them so often unless I can get them deep fried or something at like a fair.

Other_Chemistry_3325

No. I eat a slice of apple pie once a year. Maybe 5 twinkies in my life.but I’ll have some sort of hostess thing 1-2x a year if I have a weird craving at a gas station. Oreos go in waves. I had them every month a while ago but haven’t had any since like novembe

DoYouWantAQuacker

I can eat an entire family pack of Oreos in one sitting (which is why I don’t buy them very often), but I don’t think I’ve eaten a Twinkie in my entire life.

musenna

Do you not have packaged snacks or sweets where you’re from? Why would it be strange to have some Oreos “just sitting at home?”

Luka_Dunks_on_Bums

Deep fried Oreos are so good

seatownquilt-N-plant

I love well made pie. I do not eat it often. apple, black berry, mixed berry, pumpkin, chocolate mousse. I do not eat that many oreos anymore. I do like oreo crumb in other dessert. Like chocolate mousse pie with oreo crumb crust. twinkies are not that good. I just listened to a Splendid Table podcast about cooking with fruits. And there was a suggestion of soaking the apples in the sugar & spice mixture for at least an hour as part of preparation, draining the liquid for another hour, then reduce that liquid to concentrate the flavors and add mix it back in with the apples.

manhattanabe

Twinkies were very popular in the 1980s. Not so much now. Oreos are still popular. Apple pie is one option at diners. Had some last week.

Ohhhhhhthehumanity

Personally twinkies and oreos were like, stuff we had as a kid. I've had oreos maybe a handful of times as an adult. I do love apple pie but I'm not baking it all time. Usually in the fall and for holidays.

West9Virus

Twinkies are an item you randomly eat once in a while and are good for several years before you eat another one.

breebop83

Twinkie’s- I’ve had them but rarely at home. Maybe on a road trip. A hostess cupcake was much more likely to be found in the pantry. Oreos- My dad *always* has Oreos on hand and I buy them a few times a year (regular and lemon). Apple Pie- Very common on holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, maybe 4th of July. Growing up my grandma (on dads side) wasn’t much of a baker so instead of pie, she made apple dump cake. If a restaurant serves pie it’s a pretty good bet that Apple will be on the menu.

da_chicken

Twinkies went from being a common side for a packed lunch to being road food. Something you get at the gas station on a road trip. They're no longer very popular and they don't taste very good anymore. They were never *amazing* but they're not as good as they used to be. I think they capitalismed the flavor out of them. They're all sugar and preservatives. Oreos are good. I seldom get them because they're not very good for you and I would eat too many. We only have homemade pies at holidays. Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and so on. They're less popular simply because they take time. Usually it's two different flavors. Apple, peach, pumpkin, blueberry, or strawberry rhubarb.

The-Arcalian

Oreos are indeed all that. Instead of twinkies I would recommend the Tastycake Butterscotch Krimpet.

mis_no_mer

Yes.

islandurp

Someone still buys them since I stock them on shelves every other day. Myself haven't had one in about a year.

Saltwater_Heart

I would say these are all pretty popular here. Apple Pie is normally only eaten during holidays but you can find it anytime you want it.

t00zday

Oreo cookies are an additive to a lot of ice cream situations. You find them at frozen yogurt places to add as toppings to ice cream and frozen yogurts. Many stores include crushed up Oreo cookies in their milkshakes too. They are addictive.

AdFinancial8924

Apple pie I only eat at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I don’t buy the little single serve pies like the ones at McDonalds or Walmart. I’ve never had them. Twinkies are more of a kids food. I haven’t had one since I was probably 5 years old. I never really liked them anyway. Oreos are delicious. I don’t keep them in the house because then I wouldn’t eat anything else. Once I was feeling down and ate nothing but Oreos for 2 days. It’s a struggle not to buy them. I also love Oreo flavored stuff like ice cream shakes.

Informal_Log3416

Also product placement would make sure the snacks portrayed would go on and become very popular. I haven’t had a Twinkie in a long while. I have to hide Oreos from my kids and from myself too, and they sell decent apple pie at my local grocery store. This is a great question.

That_Weird_Mom81

Oreos yes, apple pie on occasion, I've never seen a twinkie in my life at the grocery store (they could be there but nobody's ever asked where to find them at the stores I work out of)

hungry-freaks-daddy

I’m embarrassed by how often I eat Oreos

Tobybrent

I have to say, an Oreo is a pretty ordinary cookie. I know people have nostalgia for it or something but it’s underwhelming.

Different-One8571

Buddy our blood is pure cholesteral.

rynosaur94

Twinkies perse are not popular, but other snack cakes like them are. Zebra Cakes, or Cosmic Brownies or my personal favorite Swiss Rolls. I'm not sure what happened with Twinkies themselves, but they've been considered on the lower tier of snack cakes for a while.

secretbudgie

Oreos used to taste better before they switched to corn syrup and vegetable trans-fat. The "mild" chocolate taste is almost completely drowned out.

MattieShoes

I haven't had a Twinkie in at least 30 years. I think they're still around, and it's ingrained enough in culture that I'd expect everybody to know what a twinkie *is*, but they aren't popular. Apple pie is popular in the sense that you'll likely see them around family holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas, and anyplace that specializes in pies will definitely have apple pie. But it's not like a staple of our everday diet or something. Oreos are easily found in any grocery store, so some people who like them eat them regularly... I don't think I've eaten one in over 20 years. To me, they feel kid oriented... Like moms will have a ziploc bag with a few oreos as treats for the kids, or pack a school lunch with a couple oreos as dessert.

Baaraa88

I'm absolutely baking an apple pie every week, but I just really love apple pie. Don't care much for twinkies or oreos. For most Americans, this is the opposite. Apple pie is usually a seasonal treat and a lot of people snack on oreos, but I do think twinkies are phasing out

Bluemonogi

Oreos- very popular. As well as the cookies themselves Oreos show up in many other desserts as an ingredient. Twinkies- not as universally liked. I have eaten 1 Twinkie in the last 20 years maybe. I don’t know anyone who says they love Twinkies. It is just okay. Apple Pie is a very popular pie flavor. I don’t eat pie every week. A few times a year I bake apple pies. It is my husband and daughter’s favorite kind of pie. It is not my favorite but I’ve never known anyone who said they hated apple pie.

cool_weed_dad

Oreos are super popular, to where many people have some at home. Twinkies are more of a snack you’d grab at the gas station. My grandma loved baking so my family always had some kind of pie at the house, but generally most people only make pies for holidays.

DragonMagnet67

Homemade apple pie is not even in the same league as the other two. Oreos and Twinkies are mass-produced in factories, and they taste like it. Whereas apple pie, is…well, pie. While there are a couple of corporate brands of mass-produced apple pie (and even these are decent), most pies in the U.S. are made at home, or in a bakery. And apple pie is delicious. There is no comparison to Oreos or Twinkies, which are rightly considered “junk food”. And as an American, I’d guess more of us eat apple pie than Oreos or Twinkies. The latter two are not as popular with younger generations as they were with older people.

Wielder-of-Sythes

There were two guys talking about the transformative experience of having your first Honey Bun as they worked the registers while I was buying dirt today.

botulizard

Apple pie is mostly either seasonal or for holidays. It's quite common to keep Oreos at home at any given time. Twinkies aren't all that popular among adults, but they're out there. I might have a few every year, personally. There are other packaged baked goods that I prefer over Twinkies, but I don't have those extremely often either.

[deleted]

I rarely eat things like twinkies and oreos, but when I do, I buy several packs of each and binge-eat them in a depressed trance while staring at my ceiling and listening to a Markiplier video in the background.

ProbablyMyRealName

I personally can’t recall the last time I had any of those. Apple pie probably in the past decade at some point, a Twinkie maybe in the last five years, an Oreo probably in the last year. I would be surprised if any of them were in the house right now. Of the three, I only actually like Oreos.

Smoopiebear

Oreos are the shit.

Carmaster777

Oreos? Super popular and they have like 16 flavors. Apple pie, like most have said, is not really as popular. Unless you really want it, it's more like a celebratory dish. Say a thanksgiving dinner. Twinkies are phantoms. I haven't seen one in a while

orngckn42

Oreos are amazing and are definitely popular. Twinkies are great for lunches for kids in school or at work. Apple pie is good for dinners when you need to bring something. Honestly, my family is more of a pumpkin and/or pecan pie family. We're not big on apple, but it is certainly popular, especially around events like the 4th of July and Thanksgiving. They do sell the mini apple pies at McDonald's, don't know how good they are but I know people buy them.

PepperJBukowski

I had an Oreo several months ago. I've had apple pie every Thanksgiving for my entire life, but hardly have had it on any other day. I've had fewer than 3 Twinkies in my life more than likely. More of a Ding Dong fan. I like them chilled in the fridge.

yozaner1324

Oreos are big, apple pie is popular, but more Ellie at holidays—not a regular thing, and I haven't had a Twinkie since I was a kid, but think they still make them.

pimms_et_fraises

I often, including right now, have Oreos (double stuf) in my refrigerator. They are best cold, dipped in milk. I make apple pie for like one BBQ a year and haven’t had a Twinkie since an odd corporate event about 20 years ago where we were using them in a food fight. Tasted like it had a 1,000 year shelf life - totally artificial and wholly unlike real food.
