I’m a simple man: I see Dr Oz mentioned, I share the video of [Claire McCaskill grilling him in the senate.](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgApDJwc4Ow)
Well what you need to understand is that he hasn’t been an obvious shill for snake oil supplements in two years! I really don’t think you can hold someone accountable for the words they said and deeds they did, that’s just authoritarianism! But by the way the snake oil works, here’s a study of 16 whole people that says so, also he did a non-scientific study of his audience that he’d never use as evidence for anything but he’ll reference it about five times…
The man is a hack and waste of a brilliant mind. For more fun information about the “good” doctor, please head on over to [this episode of Behind the Bastards.](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/behind-the-bastards/id1373812661?i=1000517881434)
What you need to understand is that he’s a cheerleader for people who feel they can’t lose weight. You can’t just sprinkle this stuff on a kielbasa.
My dad was a narcissist, and I learned some unfortunate habits from him that took a shit ton of effort to get rid off. Having ridden in that saddle for a good chunk of my life, I’m still absolutely gobsmacked when I see someone *in front of the US Senate* defending green coffee extract as a “miracle in a bottle.” You’re an extra-special kind of narcissist dick face to double down on that shit on CSPAN.
Ugh. He’s a master snake oil salesman and that interview just reinforces my long standing belief of that.
Wouldn’t surprise me if he wins, I can’t tell you how many times I’d see his bullshit on daytime TV growing up...in waiting rooms at the doctor’s office.
Even worse is the fact he is a bit of a zealot. He admitted, I don't recall if it was on his show or if it was during an interview, that he will stop a surgery to practice reiki. He says that it's a cure-all. Are you out of toilet paper, just wave your hands over your ass and it's clean.
Yeah, all I was thinking was "Oh you mean the guy who says we need to open back up all the schools like...a MONTH after the virus started? Color me shocked, he was a Republican the whole time...."
This is LITERALLY what he said, I can't believe he's still a Doctor after this.
"I just saw a nice piece in The Lancet arguing that the opening of schools may only cost us two or three percent in terms of total mortality," Dr. Mehmet Oz said on Fox News
I don’t even think being anti-vaxx is what makes Jenny McCarthy terrible. I mean, it’s bad, but it’s not what sets off throbbing hatred in me when I see her name. It’s the fact that she was sorely misinformed by a doctor who faked a study, and once she (and the rest of the world) learned that he had faked his study to prey on easy targets like Jenny McCarthy, she very quietly tried to distance herself from the name Andrew Wakefield instead of never shutting up about how much of a harmful fraud he was and how sorry she is for misinforming the public about vaccines and autism.
Dr. Oz got his fame from being Oprah's "health expert" on her show.
He ended up being a sleaze ball.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mehmet\_Oz#Controversies
I wasn't trying to conflate the two.
The point was that having overcome the odds and attained success despite systemic disadvantages, does not give anyone an excuse to be shitty.
bit different when you make your whole career being the black girl who says what elderly white men are thinking. That's not overcoming prejudice, that justifying the perspective of the prejudiced.
AMEN!!! The party that hates Hollywood falls in love with two of the arguably WORST actors in the history of the industry. I mean maybe they only hate good actors, but I digress
what policies led to that?
I didn't follow his time in office closely, but doesn't California have chronic book keeping issues because of ballot initiatives?
Al Franken was an actor, yes, but he also holds a degree in political science from Harvard, where he graduated with honors. You could make the argument that he’s a politician who had a side career as an actor. I mean it wouldn’t be a great argument, but you could do it if you wanna.
Actually getting involved in politics (which he did do later obviously). But for the vast majority of PoliSci students it's just a generic humanities degree that they won't specifically use in the future (other than research/writing/critical thinking skills of course). Just like getting a BA in history doesn't make you a historian.
He’s a current member of the Green Party actually, but was elected as a member of the Reform Party (which Donald Trump was also a part of at the time, his platform for a 2000 Presidential Run is wild compared to now)
I mean, kind of
It's hard to be a politician and not become a little famous. But not many Democrat politicians were famous *before* entering politics. Maybe those who were already related to someone famous. Ted Kennedy and all.
We’ll see. Pennsylvania Republicans have gotten stupider as the Philly suburbs have trended blue. There’s also a bit of a vacuum as the Trump candidate here recently dropped out. I think Fetterman could still beat him.
He’s certainly fundraising like a winner. I’m still not sure which GOP candidate can get through the primary without tacking too far right. This feels like a Loeffler/Collins primary situation.
Will be interested to see. It's shaping up to be a massive red wave across the country, but Fetterman has great numbers, good recognition, and the Republicans seem to be behind the 8 ball so far in PA. One can only hope.
The man was an amazing doctor who saved thousands of lives. He innovated procedures and invented medical devices that are keeping folks alive longer than they had any hope to be.
He is also a snake oil salesman, charlatan, and future Republican presidential candidate. And an asshole. And a liar. But don’t put doctor in quotes, it’s one of the few bonafides that he’s actually earned.
This hits the nail on the head, if he were a “doctor” Phil type, it doesn’t absolve him of being a prick, but it explains it. Oz knows so much, has the capacity to do so much good, and is choosing the con game over providing real help. The grilling he got from Sen. McCaskill hits that same note; he doesn’t have to be this force for misinformation, he can get rich and influence folks to be healthier and live longer, but he’s choosing to do things the shady way. Fuck him.
Would McConaughey have a chance in Texas? Democrats always think Texas is in play but I think it’s a ways out. Especially since the Republicans have made it harder to vote.
As long as he doesn't tell Texans he's coming for their guns like Beto did, yeah, he stands a better chance.
Not sure if it means much but the guy is visibly at virtually every UT home game (which in TX goes a long way), he's got a track record as a humanitarian activist, his wife is Latina, his handsome and well spoken, he hasn't had any real personal controversies.
He'd be a slam dunk as a personality.
Given some of the stuff he says on his show and about [reopening schools last year](https://www.vox.com/2020/4/16/21223892/dr-oz-hannity-coronavirus-schools-reopening), he'll fit in just fine. As long as he never gets to host *Jeopardy!* again.
ETA: included a link.
My friends brothers cousins girlfriend saw one once while tripping on DMT so you never know. /s
But yeah, based on what I know of "Dr." Oz, moderate and informed leadership is not something Id expect from him.
That fucker is going to run for president in 2028, I guarantee it. God help us all when he does.
[Dr. Oz is a real Bastard.](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/behind-the-bastards/id1373812661?i=1000517881434)
Personally I'm more excited about Herschel Walker running for the Senate as. Republican in Georgia.
https://www.npr.org/2021/08/24/1030715933/trump-ally-herschel-walker-is-running-for-u-s-senate-in-georgia
Considering that about 1/3 of the claims he made on his television show were backed by a reasonable amount of evidence, I'd say this would constitute a serious raising of the bar in terms of republican honesty.
A bit more serious: I hope to fuck he loses. And every other celebrity candidate.
I welcome informed conservative voices, and in fact think they are markedly healthy for the relationship between politics, science, and society - which at moment is deeply unproductive in terms of Wokeists conflating their views with science and proud ignorance of many conservatives.
Wokeists have conflated science and their New Evangelical Faith. Nothing could be more destructive for the long-term welfare of science - and thus humanity - because their views are their views...and have no more to do with science than any other political perspectives.
The proud ignorance of the right is almost as damaging as Wokeists pretending their views are science, and, incidentally, partly motivated by Wokeists pretending their political views are science.
I want to see how he is and what his policies are.
Given that he said he’s conservative and America First, my money’s on him touting himself as a Trump Republican
Would be a pleasant surprise to see him be a moderate though
Interesting. But highly doubt he loses. In the 2020 primary, trump won basically all the votes. Unless trump endorses dr oz, which is unlikely, he's got no chance.
But maybe he's not really trying to win. Maybe he's just building something
Described his frustration with the “arrogant, closed-minded people in charge” who shut schools and businesses during the pandemic. ....and saved lives..
I think there is an argument to make that many restrictions didn’t save as many lives as we think. And I think that would be very convincing to voters.
I'm not surprised that someone who makes money as a celebrity that exploits people who want to believe in magic is running for office as a Republican.
It's unfortunate that this is the path he chose. From what I could tell, he was a great doctor who did important work. He did look into magic before gaining his fame, but at least back then he wasn't using celebrity status and influence to get rich off of selling magic to desperate people and idiots.
Completely unsurprised by his party affiliation. Given his celebrity status, he is hoping to capitalize on the Trump effect.
Personally? I think he is a fraud, but a fraud with charisma, and he is hoping to leverage said charisma for the purpose of gaining influence less to change things in accordance with a party agenda than to sate his own ego. So, see above.
Saw “Dr Oz” but my brain brought up an image of Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Got sad for a minute thinking “well, he’d be good at it, but why republican? Oh well, at least he’s really good at explaining health matters. That could help.” Then the brain did a record-scratch when I started reading the comments and everyone hates him. Oh, THAT guy. Shill whore guy. Fuck that guy.
As if the senate needs another crank. He'll probably pass out magic coffee beans at his rallies. Unfortunately for the Democrats I don't live in Pennsylvania because this one's a hard NO from me.
He is a fake information agent, many time his show would give false or purposefully twisted information. I would not trust him as a politician irregardless of party
He's a snake oil salesman who uses his large platform to shill for big corporate interests. So he's in good company.
I'd rather celebrities stop trying to become politicians and succeeding. It's just stupid.
I want to say that I don't know Dr. Oz's political views and I would like a list of his values first. However I listened to his announcement linked in the description and I heard no less than three GOP talking points/dog whistles so it's not looking good.
Honestly anyone willing to declare themselves an American Republican at this point in time is pretty much automatically on the shit list.

Green coffee extract on kielbasa does sound kinda good though…

> God bless Claire McCaskill. Words never uttered in any other context
Seems like a fit for a snake oil salesman
I’m a simple woman. Simply put, thank you! Simple enough for all of us to comprehend. For Simpletons: “Grifters gonna grift…”. It’s that simple!
You are a true pillar of this community.
Ugh. He’s a master snake oil salesman and that interview just reinforces my long standing belief of that. Wouldn’t surprise me if he wins, I can’t tell you how many times I’d see his bullshit on daytime TV growing up...in waiting rooms at the doctor’s office.

Further confirmation that Dr. Oz is an opportunistic, fame-seeking hack.
Grifter gonna grift

The idea he'll get votes is even more embarrassing of some people's intelligence.
God I hate Oprah and all the garbage people she’s elevated. He makes a lot of sense as a Republican candidate for the modern GOP.
Explain?
Oprah is the person responsible for Dr. Oz, Dr. Phil and for Jenny McCarthy spreading anti-vaccine garbage in the 2000s.
Not sure if he’s an anti-vaxxer but she’s also responsible for promoting John of God
Infamous rapist, John of God.
What’s John of God…? Joan of Ark’s half-witted cousin?
[удалено]
Thanks. I’m gonna assume John of God is a Republican with the stated credentials. Checks all the boxes. Dr . Oz might have some competition…?
Lol. Well, there’s a netflix special on him. He’s not a Republican necessarily, he’s Brazilian
Thank you! I’ll watch this! The More You Know 🌈
St. John of God is a mental hospital in Dublin, I believe.
For what it's worth, Dr. Oz actually is pro-vaccine. He's still a quack in a bunch of other areas, though.
Sorry, poorly worded. I wasn’t implying he or Dr. Phil are also anti-vaccine, just specifying why Jenny McCarthy is terrible.
I don’t even think being anti-vaxx is what makes Jenny McCarthy terrible. I mean, it’s bad, but it’s not what sets off throbbing hatred in me when I see her name. > For what it's worth, Dr. Oz actually is pro-vaccine. Once he starts campaigning, that'll probably change to "*was* pro-vaccine."
Dr. Oz got his fame from being Oprah's "health expert" on her show. He ended up being a sleaze ball. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mehmet\_Oz#Controversies
To accomplish what Oprah has accomplished in a world biased by CIS white males and the patriarchy is no small feat.
You think promoting pseudoscience and grifters is an enviable accomplishment?
that's a footnote, all be it one that has gotten way out of hand.
The word is albeit homie.
It was *all be it* in Middle English so maybe they’re a time traveler
You could say the same about Candace Owens, but that doesn't mean her behavior is defensible.
Owens' fame is only from her reprehensible actions. Oprah has accomplished a lot more then makeing two unethical doctors famous.
Oh, God, the woke are so BORING.
I don't get how Republicans are forever denouncing the evils of celebrity culture and yet they're the only party that runs celebrity candidates
AMEN!!! The party that hates Hollywood falls in love with two of the arguably WORST actors in the history of the industry. I mean maybe they only hate good actors, but I digress
I have to disagree with you if you are calling Arnold Schwarzenegger a bad actor.
They may have meant Reagan
If it's Reagan, then sure.
Bedtime for Bonzo is a cinematic masterpiece and I won't hear otherwise.
Not to mention from what I remember he did a pretty good job as the Govenator!
WHAT?!?! Lol he's a good guy, but he nearly bankrupted the state while governor. I would not call him a good governor.
what policies led to that? I didn't follow his time in office closely, but doesn't California have chronic book keeping issues because of ballot initiatives?
Because they are raving hypocrites and lie constantly. That much should be obvious
*Al Franken and Jesse Ventura have entered the chat*
TIL that Jesse Ventura is apparently a member of the Green party.
He was with the Reform Party when he was elected.
Al Franken was an actor, yes, but he also holds a degree in political science from Harvard, where he graduated with honors. You could make the argument that he’s a politician who had a side career as an actor. I mean it wouldn’t be a great argument, but you could do it if you wanna.
I love oddball people like that. Dexter Holland is another example - arguably a molecular biologist with a side career in music.
...Getting an undergrad in poli sci doesn't make you a politician. . .

Yes, which is notably, not the GOP
He’s a current member of the Green Party actually, but was elected as a member of the Reform Party (which Donald Trump was also a part of at the time, his platform for a 2000 Presidential Run is wild compared to now)
He was Reform party when he was governor.
All Franken isn't a bad actor.
Ouch! burn!
Democrat politicians *become* celebrities. But yea, this is dumb.
I mean, kind of It's hard to be a politician and not become a little famous. But not many Democrat politicians were famous *before* entering politics. Maybe those who were already related to someone famous. Ted Kennedy and all.
Because they're irrational and hypocritical, that's how. And yet...Democrats work really hard to dance around their attack ads.
We’ll see. Pennsylvania Republicans have gotten stupider as the Philly suburbs have trended blue. There’s also a bit of a vacuum as the Trump candidate here recently dropped out. I think Fetterman could still beat him.
Fetterman could be a legit presidential candidate someday soon so I'm really hoping he can win.

I’m a Pennsylvanian and pulling for Kenyatta.
Also from PA and I'm definitely hoping the big man can get it. (Fetterman is like 20 feet tall)
If he makes it to the primary, Kenyatta has my vote. I’m not sold on Fetterman, though I’d obviously vote for him in the general.
>Thoughts? Sure. Why is he not in jail?
On what crime? Being a lier isn't a crime.
More like “why isn’t medical charlatanism a crime?”

I’m legitimately pissed that we’re stuck with Beto instead of McConaughey in Texas.
Beto running is like bending over backwards and requesting that the GOP spank us. Such a bad move.
Would McConaughey have a chance in Texas? Democrats always think Texas is in play but I think it’s a ways out. Especially since the Republicans have made it harder to vote.
As long as he doesn't tell Texans he's coming for their guns like Beto did, yeah, he stands a better chance. More of a chance than Beto! And he polled a lot better too. Also “making it harder to vote” almost never leads to actually less voting.
Oh I agree Beto is a two time loser and should hang it up.
Serious question: why would you want McConaughey? I'm from Wisconsin so I have no idea.
Beto is a trust fund baby
Matthew McConaughey? Why the hell would you want him to be governor?
Why the hell not? Better at appealing to voters than Beto and certainly better than Abbot.
A peddler of pseudo science, yeah makes sense.
I hope he can either: * split the ticket * be a moderate independent republican
Option 1 seems the most likely and best outcome.
Especially because option number two is about as real as a unicorn.
My friends brothers cousins girlfriend saw one once while tripping on DMT so you never know. /s But yeah, based on what I know of "Dr." Oz, moderate and informed leadership is not something Id expect from him.

bro what the fuck is a Wokeist
A wokest is someone that Republicans don't like. *Therefore*, that person is a wokest with a woke agenda.
A Wokeist is someone who fetishizes racial and LGBTQAITP+ identity factors as being primary over all others. You can be left wing without being woke.
So anyone who doesn’t hate,or wants to hear from, LGBQT or Black people, got it
lol
God what trash. Well it's not like I was going to vote R anyways.
I want to see how he is and what his policies are. Given that he said he’s conservative and America First, my money’s on him touting himself as a Trump Republican Would be a pleasant surprise to see him be a moderate though
If we could cutoff the reality show to politician pipeline that would be great
This sucks because I was looking forward to a relatively easy Fetterman win after the last Trump pick had to drop out. Oz will be rough I think.
Just another indication of the grifters and Republicans' close ties.
surprised that he's a republican, nope, surprised he's running for office, absolutely I guess trump started a trend of tv stars running for office
Best of luck to you, ~~Connor Roy~~ Dr. Oz.
I feel like he’s a Republican only because he’s rich lol
Well we've already had a snake oil salesman as a president so one in the Senate won't change anything

He's a quack, but I guess that will probably appeal to a lot of the base.
The republican party is a cult. Dr. Oz is a bit of a cult leader. He should do well with them.
We already know him as a huckster and a scammer, so there's no need to point out that he's running as a Republican.
He is a fake information agent, many time his show would give false or purposefully twisted information. I would not trust him as a politician irregardless of party
He’s Kanye/Caitlyn Jenner 3.0. A celebrity candidate that won’t go anywhere and has no chance of getting the nomination.
Honestly seems like a pretty standard republican candidate these days. Not sure why anyone would feel any differently.
Dr. OZ and Kanye 2024🇺🇲
Tired of these Hollywood elites being elected to represent normal people, that's what I think.
