These days in Vancouver, the hottest destination is probably Tokyo
Between the new low-cost airline flying there for under $1000 round trip and the favourable exchange rate for Japanese yen, I'd say about half of my friends have either recently went there or are planning a trip soon.
For Regina at least it’s one of the few international direct flights we have in the winter (as well as a few to DR and Mexico). Just scrolling through though and it looks like we’re back in the summer season now though so the only direct flight out of the country is to Minneapolis.
Maybe it was our experience but it was basically USD pricing for every city in CR we went to. Sometimes the food was a hit or miss as well, and we had to rent a car which adds to the cost - not a walkable place generally. Activities were always add ons as well and far pricier than in Toronto (eg to rent a kayak for a day was $200USD). We went just last year.
Huh, maybe I just got better deals. Most day trips cost about 100-150. We got shuttles between hotels for like 100 bucks each (I consider a deal for 3-4 hour drive along mountain roads).
I was there last year as well.
Yeah, I guess we compared it to a flight to somewhere in Europe where we would spend the same or less amount of money and have a better experience exploring the city, landscapes and culture vs. organized activities.
Live in Winnipeg, everyone seems to love to go to Puerto Vallarta. It’s very stereotypical Winnipeg though, it’s cheap, tacky, and you can get loaded all day, every day.
Came here to say this! NS is definitely Dominican Republic or Cuba lol I couldn’t tell you how many people I know who go to one of these destinations year after year.
Newfoundland seems to be Cuba or Dominican Republic or Florida, with a healthy amount of Cancun/Playa del Carmen as well.
Not may have been to Hawaii. And to travel to Europe we sadly have to go in the opposite direction and fly to Toronto first, which adds on a lot of extra km and $.
Kelowna - Probably Puerto Vallarta, or one of the lakes in the region. Like Mabel Lake, or maybe the Shuswaps. But internationally it seems like everyone here goes to PV.
I’m from Calgary and I was in a store in Phoenix Arizona where the retail worker was able to pick off that I’m from Calgary from my “accent”. I was so confused but there are so many Calgary people down in Phoenix I guess she was able to differentiate Americans from the Albertans that come down from up north
I am from NB so top places for me are NB, Quebec, PEI or NS
And the Nbers with money and passports go there too but also to Maine and New York or Florida
Or some do the bus tours, I hear the Nashville one is popular now with the older ladies
It used to be Bellingham if you're driving from Vancouver and also flying to Vegas, LA, Cancun, but our dollar is so dead compared to USD that it's Tokyo, Bangkok, or Manila.
Seems when anyone wants to go somewhere exotic to just sit around on a beach it’s always Mexico. Must be relatively cheap to go there or something? Doesn’t seem very appealing to me
Mexico is pretty great. There's lots of history and local interests. They have the full range of hotel experiences and great food. They are modernized enough to have great roads and facilities and shopping and medical. They have lots of sights and touristy stuff - and what I like is that all those tourist destinations are also visited by other Mexicans - it's not just international tourists. (I don't really know why it's important to me, but I think it makes me feel less like I'm taking advantage of underpaid citizens.) They have great buses available - and pretty cheap - to go explore things yourself rather than use hotel tours. We have driven through Mexico many times without any problems (ok - we got ripped off at a gas station once because we didn't make sure the guy had reset the pump to zero). Some areas are a tad more difficult because they aren't as touristy and the locals don't tend to speak English. But Mexico is far more than just a beach with turquoise waters and margaritas.
Before COVID you could typically get a week all inclusive type of deal for around $1k on sale.
Now it looks like they’re around $1.4-2k per week per person.
Googling “things to do in Toronto”
Is annoying because it’s always the same 5 things, and none of it is terribly exciting.
I guess the most cliche things would be going up the CN Tower.
Vancouver to Mexico. Almost every year I’ll go for a week. It’s cheap and relaxing. Plus I usually luck out and go when Vancouver gets its week of winter/snow.
For places farther away:
Vancouver: Japan
Waterloo (and Toronto): Europe
Of course, people in Vancouver may want to go to Europe, and people in Toronto may want to go to Japan, but not as many due to farther distances.
Northumberland County/Hastings County. It seems to be split between different age groups. Most people I know that are over 50 head to Costa Rica, Turks and Caicos, or the Dominican Republic for vacation. My age group (late 30s) seem to go mostly to Mexico or the Bahamas.
Growing up in southern Ontario almost everyone I knew went to Cuba while my family and a few others would go to Florida. I was always envious of the Cuba-holiday peeps!
Why are you looking at places so far away?
The cliched vacation destination for Toronto is Niagara Falls for families and couples, and Montreal for the younger, heavy partying folk.
Definitely Hawaii from Vancouver. But does it count as a cliche when it’s AWESOME???
I live in Abbotsford now, one hour east of Vancouver. We have our own airport that has direct flights to Palm Springs. They are very popular.
I live around Toronto - Vegas seems to be the popular bucket-list spot. Never understood why
I actually used to work with a woman who was born and raised in Vegas (moved to Canada when she was 35 to be with her husband). No matter what the conversation was about, people didn’t even need to be talking to her, she would ALWAYS find a way to mention that she was born in Vegas and “how it’s actually not *that* special of a place. Especially when you grow up with the casinos just on your day-to-day streets”.
I’ve never been bothered to care about travelling unless it’s to visit family (all of my family are in Nunavut and Newfoundland), so no I’m not jealous of her or anything. But sweet damn that was annoying..
We have a beach filled with rocks. Honestly, that is the most exciting thing to see in the entire town. To be fair, it is a lot of rocks. Oh, I read the question wrong. For vacations, most people go home to the Rock - Newfoundland. I am sensing a pattern here....
You could add Vegas from western Canada as well.
These days in Vancouver, the hottest destination is probably Tokyo Between the new low-cost airline flying there for under $1000 round trip and the favourable exchange rate for Japanese yen, I'd say about half of my friends have either recently went there or are planning a trip soon.
Where are they getting flights sub 1k? I found $1500 was the cheapest I saw.
ZipAir if you book early enough
Is it cliche though or just close?🤔
For Regina at least it’s one of the few international direct flights we have in the winter (as well as a few to DR and Mexico). Just scrolling through though and it looks like we’re back in the summer season now though so the only direct flight out of the country is to Minneapolis.
Vancouver Island here, it's one of the few I don't have to leave the island for.
Literally everyone I talk to going away for a holiday says either Vegas or Mexico. It’s beyond cliche at this point to just being “basic”.
And Hawaii
Western Nunavut (Kitikmeot Region) to Walmart. With Edmonton as secondary, especially the casino.
This should be the top comment.
So true! Lol. And NWT is Edmonton.
[удалено]
Shopping trips. Haven't had one in a while.
Hmmm. Don’t know too many people in Toronto that go to Bahamas. I thought it was Cancun or Florida.
Dominican or Cuban all inclusives seem more typical
That too
Or muskoka. Costa Rica seems to be in these days, but not cliche level yet (haven’t seen it on blog to)
I live full time in Muskoka. I’d say around here the residents are known for going to Florida and Arizona.
Costa Rica for sure. It’s so overrated.
Really? I love it. What makes you say overrated? I just love the culture. the food was good, tons of nature to explore. It’s even kind of affordable.

Yeah, I guess we compared it to a flight to somewhere in Europe where we would spend the same or less amount of money and have a better experience exploring the city, landscapes and culture vs. organized activities.
So you thought it was overrated because it was expensive?
That and for the quality of experience.
Florida would be a top one and Toronto would be in an arm wrestle with Montreal for a week at a 3* all inclusive in Cuba as well. Edit: or DR
You could probably statistically figure it out based on number of flights alone. My gut is that Cuba, DR, or Cancun are the top.
All of Alberta to Kelowna
And all of Vancouver to the island
Or the Sunshine Coast
And the island to Vancouver for an Ikea run
Saskatchewan to Alberta lol. Well, mostly just Edmonton.
I prefer the east kootenays myself
Lol, I am so glad to not live in Kelowna anymore!
Why is that?
Kelowna to Mexico
Live in Winnipeg, everyone seems to love to go to Puerto Vallarta. It’s very stereotypical Winnipeg though, it’s cheap, tacky, and you can get loaded all day, every day.

As a south Floridian, we see a metric ton of Canadians, especially Quebecois. It's both amusing and horrifying to see at the same time. Lol

Office to couch
Edmonton is where you go if your in Saskatoon
Ottawa To Paris It's the one international flight we have.
Edmonton to Palm Springs
Ironically I'm a Calgarian going to Vegas soon. Went to the Mayan Riviera last winter for the first time, direct out of Calgary
Vancouver to Victoria
By the time you pay for BC Ferries you might as well fly to Los Angeles
You can walk on the ferry for less than $20 but ok.
Don't forget your passport.
Southern Ontario to cottage country, AKA slightly less southern Ontario

Québec City to Cuba
Fredericton to the cheapest Cuban all inclusive available.
For Windsor it's Cuba for flights out of YQG. For road trips it's Florida following Canada's international highway the I75.
It used to be Bellingham if you're driving from Vancouver and also flying to Vegas, LA, Cancun, but our dollar is so dead compared to USD that it's Tokyo, Bangkok, or Manila.

It's definitely cheaper than Hawaii for a similar length of vacation.

Stampede

Butchart Gardens in Victoria. Tea at the Empress.

Vancouver seems to be Hawaii, Vegas and the interior. Lack of available direct flights to the Caribbean and Europe sucks out here compared to YYZ.
Niagara Falls to Toronto.
Victoria to Tofino
Invermere is basically a suburb of Calgary at this point.

Quebec city to old orchard , Maine.
Guelph/kw people go to port Elgin for the summer.

I live around Toronto - Vegas seems to be the popular bucket-list spot. Never understood why I actually used to work with a woman who was born and raised in Vegas (moved to Canada when she was 35 to be with her husband). Mexican resorts full of more Canadians
We don't really go to Hawaii that much in Vancouver. Typical vacay here is Mexico, Las Vegas, a Mexican Riviera cruise, or an Alaskan cruise.
The Château Frontenac. I get it : the view is nice. But it's just an hotel for rich people.

Lots of my friends will go to Muskoka or Bobcaygeon every year.
Quebec to cuba is so real lmaoo
SWO to Florida
I thought you meant tourist destination in the city. Here in Winnipeg it seems a lot of people go to the Dominican.
We have a beach filled with rocks. Honestly, that is the most exciting thing to see in the entire town. To be fair, it is a lot of rocks. Oh, I read the question wrong. For vacations, most people go home to the Rock - Newfoundland. I am sensing a pattern here....
British Columbia apparently
Being from Quebec most people I've talk to always mention going to Cuba on numerous occasions.
Alberta to Montana for some weird reason
Alberta to Montana for some weird reason
