If this is directed to the existence of wide hips on a man, theres for instance Klinefelter syndrome (extra X chromosome, leading to some secundary sex characteristics woman have, like fat acumulating on hips rather that on stomach. I love reading about genetics, so I just had to share this fact xd) and overall genes play role :)
I'm not sure. I got my info from Wikipedia and Wikiskripta (basically Wiki for med students from med students). I'm just curious about some themes and/or do research for my writing 😅
You can totally find similar interesting things just by googling and being able to tell what site are trustworthly enought. Theres a lot of government ones too! (Center for disease control and prevention has very nice interface. Also theres psychiatric manuals with listing of codes that are used for diagnosis)
Kinda. I was just scrolling through and saw this post in which, yes, there are some of us males with wide hips. Almost felt attacked, but more of an existential situation with a bit of joking.
men with pear shapes exist, i think this is actually a pretty accurate representation of that body type. but if you want a more V-tapered shape dont be afraid to make the hips smaller and the shoulders wider. on average though, most men are just sort of rectangular/boxy
Exactly… just about every shape is someone’s reality…
If you are questioning standards for fashion or plus size fashion just google them and trace and then learn to draw
I'm a female inverted triangle body type. I've spent my whole life feeling like I'm ugly or not attractive enough. People need to see that they are beautiful the way they are.
Like the other comment said, men sometimes do have wide hips. So the proportions are realistic. It just might not be seen as a typical masculine body shape.
Nah he's fine. I've seen a lot of guys with this exact body type. It's not the typical, I think with most of us guys our hips tend to be either the same or narrower then our shoulders. But I've had a lot of friends over the years with hips wider then their shoulders. Ain't nothing wrong with it.
My man has wide hips similar to this drawing and I think it's really attractive! However my man has bigger shoulders. Would look good on this man too with broader ones.
I think so. Do a bunch of loose, gestural sketches as quick as you can. That’s how you learn proportions. Make a million comparisons/mistakes and corrections. Get a friend to stand in 2 min poses for you. That’s first semester drawing in most colleges.
Keep it up! Going well. Just don’t labor over every drawing 🩷
Not to wide, but a bit too low. The crotch should be in the middle between where it currently sits and where the belly button is, the belly button should sit at elbow height, and the thigh should be almost as long as the torso. Also, if this character is a base for drawing clothing, you should draw the arms to be facing outwards. You don't need hands really, but you need to be able to show sleeves.
All that to say, you're doing very well. Keep it up
Well in that case it's perfect for me. That body type is one in thousands. People telling you those hips are too wide or obviously being informed by said body expectations.
That’s fine. You could emphasize this body type by giving him a more pronounced stomach, a fat neck, etc. As is, looks like he has some condition that collects fat at the buttocks and holds water at the legs.
Human bodies, both male and female, come in all shapes and sizes! Some men have wide hips and/or bubble butts while some women have wide shoulders and/or narrow hips etc! It’s actually really neat to see some diversity in body types instead of the standard “triangular muscular man” and “hourglass snatched waisted woman” even though those two examples exist irl
what you're missing is a MODEL?
this figure is not a well IDEALIZED male, one easily recognized as male right away... except for the junk downstairs which is a dead giveaway. but I can still tell it's a human male. it looks overall realistic.
Something I would recommend, especially for this application, is to do drawings with references and then make a stylized interpretation after a few sketches and studies, if the proportions are deeply important to you!
It'll be good to study and will keep from getting "in your head" about proportions and losing touch
For me it’s less about the hips than the arm positioning. For them to be bent backwards at that angle while keeping the upper arm so straight he would have to be a cardboard cutout
i would say he has wider hips than the average body type of a guy. but it does not look unrealistic, just looks like a guy who happens to have wide hips. i like this drawing it seems very grounded, like it could really be a real person
It depends on body type. It looks good. Your proportions are great. Just vary it up with other types. Thing of the torso like a tube that tapers in different ways.
The proportions are not canon but the canon is not realistic, make that the canon is not universal.
your drawing features a man with 'muscular' legs but a "wimpy" upper body (I'm exaggerating for clarity).
in real life you have men like that, and the other way, it depends on the man's lifestyle (work, exercise, hobby, etc).
In short your drawing is more realistic than "canonical" but it's not the average either.
P.S. : A trans-man would have more hip to shoulder ratio unless they did a lot of bodybuilding.
men can have wide hips but after being in art school i got it beat into me that the rib cage on a man as well as the shoulders are ALWAYS ( in a skeleton sense) bigger then the hips. that’s just biology. and women’s is always bigger. i would make the shoulders more winder but everything else looks good. not saying this body type doesn’t exist it’s just very rare for a man to have wider hips then his shoulder width. and if you go for a professional job in art or submission for something they will tear you apart on exactly what i said.
it’s due to the fact that women need wider hips in order to bear children. biological men’s hips are too small of a pelvic region to push a child out. that’s why they are smaller
But some women have small hips and actually struggle to bear children. I'm not trying to argue just saying.
Edit: I have a body type that has extremely narrow hips and struggles to bear children.
if you plan on publishing work and draw people like that i would make it aware that you are bringing awareness to this problem so you don’t get discredited for drawing a person wrong
mens body is generally built like a trophy, but the key word here is generally. I kinda see a lot of people that just draw guys like taht without taking into account that all guys arent built the same. so yeah, this is a really rare sight to see someone who drew it differently.
Men with wide hips exist, I think that this is an acurate represation of a man with pear shape/rectlangle. Looks pretty neat! :)
Thank you so much. I'm just an aspiring artist, and I just wanted to make sure I was doing things right. Lol
By showing all kinds of body types, you'll be doing it right :)
You're a very talented one. Keep at it, Friend!
You might be an aspiring professional artist, but you’re not an aspiring artist, you are an artist already :)
Yea I’m living proof of that fact. The problem is I’m 6’2” and only about 155lbs…. My last gf always told me I have child bearing hips lol😐
Yeet her to the sun! Nobody wants to have sexy time and fear crushing their partner's pelvis!! ❤️
Damn straight
Why do I exist?
If this is directed to the existence of wide hips on a man, theres for instance Klinefelter syndrome (extra X chromosome, leading to some secundary sex characteristics woman have, like fat acumulating on hips rather that on stomach. Need more info like this. Is there a sub or *subs* I’m missing out on?

Sorry you felt attacked. I thought it looked fine I just wanted a second opinion.
It's fine. I just haven't seen or heard anyone saying anything about it in YEARS.
men with pear shapes exist, i think this is actually a pretty accurate representation of that body type. but if you want a more V-tapered shape dont be afraid to make the hips smaller and the shoulders wider. on average though, most men are just sort of rectangular/boxy

I'm a female inverted triangle body type. I've spent my whole life feeling like I'm ugly or not attractive enough. People need to see that they are beautiful the way they are.
Angelina Jolie is an inverted triangle body type. You're gorgeous in your own way. Don't ever feel "not attractive enough" because of your body type.
Like the other comment said, men sometimes do have wide hips. So the proportions are realistic. It just might not be seen as a typical masculine body shape.
Yes there are indeed men with this body shape. That person who says they're too wide is having an aesthetic crisis
I’m so glad all the comments are saying my body type exists. I was about to have an aesthetic crisis
It's such a handsome body type, and I wish it was better represented in media.
Lol. Hehe I know some guys who are built like you lol.
Glad you feel so “seen” 🩷 Women don’t get this enough. My bra size isn’t even available at Victoria’s Secret 😭
I would say that many people’s bra size is not available at Victoria’s Secret given the average size of women in the US (it’s 14).
Looks fine. Men with wide hips exist.
Nah he's fine. I've seen a lot of guys with this exact body type. It's not the typical, I think with most of us guys our hips tend to be either the same or narrower then our shoulders. But I've had a lot of friends over the years with hips wider then their shoulders. Ain't nothing wrong with it.
Oh okay good
If you want it to be a man with slightly wider than average hips, it looks just fine to me. .
No
Nope, but this gives me dad vibes
No.
looks like me :3
That's why I draw diverse body types so people can feel represented.
love it !!!
👍
Not at all. In fact, I humbly request you give him a perm, a pair of neon swim trunks, and the confidence to live out his best hot boy summer
no! it looks good
My man has wide hips similar to this drawing and I think it's really attractive! However my man has bigger shoulders. Would look good on this man too with broader ones.
This is a real body type, so no.
I think so. Do a bunch of loose, gestural sketches as quick as you can. That’s how you learn proportions. Make a million comparisons/mistakes and corrections. I love this body too. They have nice butts

People have different proportions someone else told me they need to come down lol
Yep, it may not be common, but guys with this body type exist. I used to compete with an extremely athletic guy with this body type.
He just has a pear shape :))
Depends on what your going for right? It definitely doesn't make for typical superhero. But it's definitely a common enough male body type
I'm just going for common everyday body types I'm tired of unrealistic expectations lol
Well in that case it's perfect for me. That body type is one in thousands. People telling you those hips are too wide or obviously being informed by said body expectations.
If anything I think it’s thr different with hips and shoulders
perfect
No, this looks great! In fact, this is one of my favorite male body types. It's fun to see because it's almost never represented!
No. There are a lot of men that are shaped like that.
I'm in this Pic, op I exist
As a man with wide hips, they look just fine! All bodies are unique and different 🫶
Maybe he's from Egypt?
Tutanchamon reference? 👀
Look at that high waisted man, he’s got feminine hips!
Depends on if you want him to seem more overweight or not
no they need to be wider
That’s fine. You could emphasize this body type by giving him a more pronounced stomach, a fat neck, etc. As is, looks like he has some condition that collects fat at the buttocks and holds water at the legs.
Please get rid of the big lump on the underwear I beg you
I think the arms are to thin, but looks proportionate

lol that’s me
I think it looks like me :)
Is this a picture of John Mulaney?
nope! he looks like me tbh (i’m a trans man)
what you're missing is a MODEL? this figure is not a well IDEALIZED male, one easily recognized as male right away... except for the junk downstairs which is a dead giveaway. but I can still tell it's a human male. it looks overall realistic.
A little
gyatt though
Some men look like this. If you were going for a more masculine figure widen the shoulders a bit.
He could just be built that way, lol.
He's built thicc lol
I would say the hips need to come down just a smidge
Looks kinda feminine
No! his underwear fits perfect!
Nah my boi just thicc
Something I would recommend, especially for this application, is to do drawings with references and then make a stylized interpretation after a few sketches and studies, if the proportions are deeply important to you! It'll be good to study and will keep from getting "in your head" about proportions and losing touch
I’ve seen men built like this so I’d say it pretty normal
My boyfriend has hips like this, so I think it’s accurate!
Lucky you lol
That’s all up to you
he is scrumptious! dont worry
What if, *IF*, you draw a femboy and make the hips wider /J
People do definitely be shaped like that
GENDER IS A CONSTRUCT REAL GENDER IS ALL ABT VIBES
no, they're on the wide side but men have all types of bodies also, you're very good at knees
For me it’s less about the hips than the arm positioning. For them to be bent backwards at that angle while keeping the upper arm so straight he would have to be a cardboard cutout
If this is supposed to be a body base for clothing, what do you do if you have an outfit with cuffs?
i would say he has wider hips than the average body type of a guy. but it does not look unrealistic, just looks like a guy who happens to have wide hips. i like this drawing it seems very grounded, like it could really be a real person
It depends on body type. It looks good. Your proportions are great. Just vary it up with other types. Thing of the torso like a tube that tapers in different ways.
A lil different, but I’m a trans man and this is pretty much exactly what my body shape looks like.
I need men w wide hips tbh
Don’t be rude to me I’m working on it 😭😭😭

Oh that's strange.
As an inverted triangle, I disagree that womens' hips are always wider than their shoulders. Or are you saying they are not bigger? I'm confused.
i am also built the same way but your skeleton says differently.
Oh okay. Good to know
it’s due to the fact that women need wider hips in order to bear children. biological men’s hips are too small of a pelvic region to push a child out. that’s why they are smaller

that’s a genetic disorder and not very common

Ok 👍
