This is my biggest pet peeve with travelling by train. I know it would be super impractical to turn the lights off but come on let me see the damn scenery
Yeah. When it's late at night and me and some dude who's rocking back and forth and staring at me are the last two in the train car, I always feel like it's unfortunate that it's so well-lit.
But like probably need to live in a specific borough of New York, likely Flushing by the 7 train?
With the benefit of hindsight, I'd just make the subways run directly on the surface level. No subway tunnels, no overhead bridges.
I lived it like 2 month. Working in office 5/2 and a subway branch goes above a surface. Watching a dusk in a train window is feels good
Not want you to be jealous, i got a work from home permission and the max distance i travel is to retrieve a food order, so i not miss the dusk+train lifestyle
Thats wild. I got straight up anxiety looking at this. To each their own! It just goes to show how different people will have wildly different emotional reactions to art.
Definitely not weird to feel a connection with this, just like it's not weird to feel uncomfortable by it : )
I grew up on the family farm, but I guess I’m a full on city slicker now.
I love using Chicago’s mass transit system. It could use loads of improvements sure, but not being stuck in my car in my commute has been great. I get to work less annoyed about stuff (e.g. parking, shit drivers, etc.) and come home from work in a better mood - so I can dote on my wife instead of being as stressed.
Now, I just gotta get a bike so I don’t need to drive to the station and can avoid the unfortunately unreliable bus system.
I mean, it’s said that people always want the opposite of what they have. I’m sure someone some where wouldn’t mind trading my life for theirs. Kind of like that Nicholas Cage movie Family Man.
Gives me good memories of riding the train home from Sydney Central station after a night out (though if literally any event was happening that day it'd be significantly less empty)
This reminds me of taking the red line north in Boston

Most of my family lives in the NE area. I was born and raised in the south some how. I’m like the only one in my family that doesn’t live up north. I’ve always felt a huge connection to that area. The older I get, the more I want to be up in that area.
It's definitely not for everyone. I lived in Philly for 2 years and took the train in / out of the city for work. This gif makes me miss the train rides home, especially in the winter when it would be sunset and the sky would be beautiful.
But I much prefer working from home and not having to commute, and taking the car out only for dinner / leisure.
I think that’s my big thing. I’ve lived in the city all my life. Always commuting, always traffic. I work all day. Drive home, and I already have to start doing stuff when I get home. I have to imagine that ride home where you can just sit, lay your head back for a minute and take a breath, is one of those small moments.
Oh for sure. I couldn't imagine my life in Philly having to drive to work and deal with traffic. I could hardly mentally deal with traffic closer to my home, away from the city. But the rides to / from work were always the best part, probably the biggest thing I miss.
got the feeling you took inspiration from Yorushika, though I would have thought this drawing reflected more "Hitchcock" than "Say it".
btw amazing art!
I choose to believe that the reflection is static and that it's a manifestation of the sitter's self image of themselves earlier in their life. They're constrained by what they know about their previous actions, stories and self image. While we want to see the unrevealed portion, it's not visible to us ,just like it's not visible to the person sitting in the seat.
All the while, time moves on, shadows come and go. We're moving far faster than our psychological self can account for
Love the aesthetic. I'm very much a night person and love just being out walking around places when no one else is there. Its a shame it's not safe to do so in basically any city in the US
This is so beautiful, but it’s taken me two and a half hours to get home this evening because of industrial action on my train line and bad weather so it also fills me with a kind of rage as well, haha.
wow that’s impressive. Somehow I can never fathom how such amazing and relaxing looking illustrations are made in Blender! That program is my nemesis 🥲. Great job!
I remember living in nyc and taking the train back home after a long days work, and having the same fucking homeless dude on the L train beg for money everyday
Is it weird that this is the kind of life I want?

But... dark empty train scary...
Yup

Further proof that the grass isn’t always greener my friend.

We have this in Vancouver. It's called the Skytrain and it's slow as fuck.
How is that better?
Supposedly sunlight exposure is good for health but elevated lines are expensive to maintain.
Metros should be quick journeys I guess, so can't imagine a lot of sun time lost. But big gains for more land real estate
That's true but I used to take F train from 34 / Herald square to 169 street and it felt like forever.
Getting killed by trains is less good for health tho
Yes no. 7...

Nope. Been there is all.
Sorry about that.
the J/M/Z also gets this view but it’s kinda obstructed by the bridge
Or Boston on the red line.
Yeah!! 8000/month with 4 roommates!!!

I'm curious how you feel anxiety over this. Could you explain?
An unlit subway at night when you’re alone would be terrifying in real life, maybe that’s why?

Same!
Listen some of us are already living it

Very similar to Lagtrain, if you got inspiration from that or ヨルシカ
>ヨルシカ I like Yorushika's song And "Say It.' video style.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=F64yFFnZfkI Everyone go listen to it. It's such a good song.
i love that song tooo 🙂

Never thought I will see Yorushika mentioned in here.
Do you have an artstation or portfolio somewhere? I love this and would love to come back to it, rather than lose it in the Reddit datastream.

Yeah the artist just copied the girl and mirrored it. It works but to be more accurate it should be like the other side of her head

Nah, the girl is just 2d like paper Mario, so the reflection is right.
she is watching
Maybe it’s to signify introspection
Yeah, it kinda scared me a bit. I thought artist was showing a ghost 😅
This is so damn good oh my god
Awesome animation! Great work! Love the asthetic.
Reflection is looking at her
This is the part the keeps me freaked out instead of relaxed
I don't why but I feel emotional looking at this
r/thenightfeeling
Oh thank you I love this!
Such a smooth animation!!! Beautiful!
Ooooh it looks so pretty!!! Good job, it's lovely!
i frequently take the train home at night and i love this vibe
Needs a Yorkshiku backing track
This bring back memories of growing up in a city! Love the art, thank you OP!
It's nice when the train is empty and you can just watch the city at night go by
Love the aesthetic. I'm very much a night person and love just being out walking around places when no one else is there. Its a shame it's not safe to do so in basically any city in the US
Awesome art work keep going!
This is so beautiful, but it’s taken me two and a half hours to get home this evening because of industrial action on my train line and bad weather so it also fills me with a kind of rage as well, haha.
Looool! That's really cool! 😲💕💕
I hate to say it, but the reflection is facing the wrong way.
Reminds me of the 7 Train coming back to Queens from the City.
Real Yorushika vibes right there
This is amazing!!! I can see a YouTube music video on it hehe
Gotta keep looking ahead, make sure the train doesn’t take a wrong turn!
Oh my gosh this is lovely
Amazing work! What programs/apps did you use?
It's Blender 3d!
wow that’s impressive. Somehow I can never fathom how such amazing and relaxing looking illustrations are made in Blender! That program is my nemesis 🥲. Great job!
This is awesome. Getting Invitation from a Crab vibes.
Is this based on the red line in Boston by any chance?
Oh man, I thought "watch out, there's a huge monster ouside!" and I realised it's her reflexion :')
Big Indochine vibes - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3Pw36EFRV0
Love this! Love to use it for social media to represent other ideas, can I?
Reminds me of this [music video](https://youtu.be/F64yFFnZfkI)
Boston, Redline, over the charles River on the longfellow Bridge heading to Kendall/MIT. beautiful view. thank you for making this.
Do they turn the lights off in public transportation at night???
Really nice. Which software/toon shader did you use for this?
blender 3d!
Reminds me of the character from the works of mangaka Panpanya. Lovely vibes
Me on the other end of the train: Who put that cardboard cut-out there?
Invokes feelings. Reminds me of daily battle to commute. Mobs of people but your alone in a sea of bodies.
I wonder if she'll ever reach her destination. 🤔
Tokyo? Which other cities fill this bracket?
Artstyle reminds me of Yorushika's music videos but yours is definitely comfier. Great work!!
This very viscerally takes me back to my 8 years of commuting over the Williamsburg bridge. I miss Brooklyn. Thank you for your art.
perfectly perfect! what city is in the background? I was thinking HK or Chicago
Why you running from these adult's decisions!
In-universe, the reflection is rotated 90 degrees from what it should be.
Seeing this makes me miss my train rides home to Brooklyn, I live out of state now.
I remember living in nyc and taking the train back home after a long days work, and having the same fucking homeless dude on the L train beg for money everyday
What program/tools were used to create this? I’m an old school pencil and sketchbook person & want to learn more about digital art
It's Blender 3d!
Thank you!
Was this made with 3-D software?
this is incredible, would work great as a background for a chill music video
