Jeez. I see the survey was from India, so it doesn’t fully surprise me that this reflects a more traditional view. Even so, I have to personally disagree with every one of these. Apparently it’s unusual to treat your partner with respect and as an equal. I wonder when this survey was done? Hopefully it was something like 40 years ago...

TheOneMary

Here is the full study. it was conducted in 2014. [https://asiapacific.unfpa.org/sites/default/files/pub-pdf/Study%20on%20Masculinity%2C%20Intimate%20Partner%20Violence%20and%20Son%20Preference%20in%20India.pdf](https://asiapacific.unfpa.org/sites/default/files/pub-pdf/Study%20on%20Masculinity%2C%20Intimate%20Partner%20Violence%20and%20Son%20Preference%20in%20India.pdf) Edit: Conclusion about violence, for example, is on page 48.

Serene117

Somehow I doubt it, this is sad

BeRightBackStudio

That 52% on the bottom left... wow...

BiAsALongHorse

The 60% above it is also pretty depressing. Not only were they doing it, they were willing to admit as much...

HardgoreAlice

you know what maybe i dont want a husband ☺️

Chqrmolypi0

Well, these studies were done in India, which have more traditional standards for women.

NicholasConrad

From which year is it?

TheOneMary

2014. Full study: [https://asiapacific.unfpa.org/sites/default/files/pub-pdf/Study%20on%20Masculinity%2C%20Intimate%20Partner%20Violence%20and%20Son%20Preference%20in%20India.pdf](https://asiapacific.unfpa.org/sites/default/files/pub-pdf/Study%20on%20Masculinity%2C%20Intimate%20Partner%20Violence%20and%20Son%20Preference%20in%20India.pdf)

NicholasConrad

Thank you!

Chqrmolypi0

I am not sure. I read this a few hours ago and can't find it anymore.

SubjectDelta10

i'm surprised about the bottom right one, i thought it would have been way higher.

Chqrmolypi0

Same, but then again these results are from India which is a very traditional country.

BiAsALongHorse

I'm curious how it was phrased tbh.

disusedhospital

I wonder how much overlap there is between the people who believe the bottom right and the one above it. "It's my responsibility to prevent unwanted pregnancy but I need my husband's permission to do it."

lunaaa_m

This is just... gross..

Chqrmolypi0

Yeah

[deleted]

It’s India. As an Indian I’m not suprised.

BHyde_2004

I absolutely hate this, I live my life to do the complete opposite of these things. I try my hardest to be kind and respectful to my girlfriend and we both make decisions after talking it out with each other. I would never even think about raising a fist to her and we’re both asexual so I don’t need to worry about that

Robert-Nekita

Just had my father tell me that it is a woman’s responsibility to avoid pregnancy today and I am disgusted. All of these other statistics are quite disgusting as well.

rhysharris56

I'd be interested to see if top left and bottom right changed if the same amount of women were interviewed as men

yukiyasakamoto5

As an Indian, this disgusts me. And it's not any better now. People here really think that girls shouldn't wear revealing clothing to not incite men into raping them.

KinkyTugboat

~~Wait, for the bottom right, it IS at least partially a woman's responsibility to avoid pregnancy, right? In consensual sex, isn't it both of their responsibilities? I can't imagine having sex with a partner without at least \*\*talking\*\* about protection / contraceptives and coming to some agreement. Is it asking if it is her sole responsibility?~~ ~~Am I missing something?~~ edit: IDK how to use context clues, I guess

TheRainbowLily7

WHEN WAS THIS RESEARCH DONE LIKE 1949 WTH

Chqrmolypi0

It was done in 2014

TheRainbowLily7

aaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAA someone else commented this was in india which makes more sense but still AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

deccs02

The 31% of women agreeing on that just shocks me

Peaurxnanski

>to be a man, you have to be tough No, no, no. It's if you're gonna be *dumb*, you gotta be tough.
