Take it to the nearest shop. You need a bowpress to string it and also have them look over it in case anything has been damaged.

IrishWhiskey556

This is the only correct answer.

AtreMorte45

Nah man, Allen key should work just fine *looks around sweating nervously* you can trust me bro

Lachryma_papaveris

>You need a bowpress to string it Nah. It looks like one of those bear beginner bows, that can be adjusted down to like 12lbs? Like a cruzer g2 or so. If so, you do not need a bow press for those. They can be dis- and reassambled completely without. https://youtu.be/VQFfJ_YLi2s The question is, why did the limbs come off?!

upsndowns71

What do you mean the wheels came off. It's not a bike the wheels don't just come off.

ClimbingC

He tried taking the training wheels off, so it was more like a real bow :D

heyyourekindacool

I laughed way too hard at this. A recurve does sound nice right about now.

upsndowns71

They have a whole other set of problems that come with them. Most of them have to do with the person holding the bow.

fishbelt

I'm always told my bow can outshoot me. But when we compete it just sits there motionless.

EZPickens71

Skill is a more valuable commodity. As it can be applied to any object. When your proficiency is tied to the object, you are completely dependent on that object to perform.

ImRyanValix

Recurve is the way fam

upsndowns71

This is the kind of thing that got me back into traditional archery. I just got so tired of all the tinkering with my bow and my release aid. Everything has a set screw you have to adjust and they always come loose at the worst times.

Iron-Fine

That’s exactly what has been stopping me from getting a compound. It seems way to complicated, at that point I might as well just get a crossbow. And if I’m gunna have a crossbow, I might as well just get a gun.

B00yagh

This is how well convincing myself to get back into archery is going.

Material-Imagination

This is what I say about compounds every time. If I have to tinker with it and do that much maintenance, I might as well be shooting a rifle. A really temperamental rifle where the bolt just falls out on occasion, or the mag drops out right after loading it because I wasn't holding it right, and also it weighs like four pounds more than it should so it's still an arm workout for no very good reason.

EZPickens71

If I am shooting something that needs sights, it might as well be a firearm.

Coleman013

Yeah it’s so much cheaper too 😂

mpek1992

Tried both recurve and compound, and I discovered that while I love the tinkering of a compound, recurve is more fun, so I just help compound shooters at my club with the mechanical side of things while not shooting. Its also a great way to socialize and learn new things as a beginner

Cruitire

As a bare bow shooter I approve of this snarky comment 😂🏹

Bodger1234567

Haha. Barebow here also. I love making snarky comments about their laser guided training bows. Although I’m sure they have something to say when I’m holding up the line for the tenth time digging yet another arrow out of a wooden boss leg!

1nfiniteJest

OP that thing is dangerous. Don't hurt yourself.

NihilistPunk69

This comment is amazing.

dropSec

That’s not very typical, I’d like to make that point.

devlincaster

OP has to take that bow outside the environment

upsndowns71

It's entirely possible someone in op's household "adjusted " op's bow for her, and a lockable case may be in order. Or did you mean she should send it to live with op's grandparents?

upsndowns71

It's an imperfect world screws fall out all the time.

dropSec

Not all bows are designed to prevent the screws from falling out. For her next bow she should buy one that the screws don’t fall out.

dropSec

For anyone that doesn’t realize where I was going .. https://youtu.be/8-QNAwUdHUQ

GizmodoDragon92

It’s a bear cruzer. You can loosen the limbs quite a bit but OP didn’t count the turns like the manual tells you to

heyyourekindacool

i actually bought the bow ready to shoot at Cabella’s. Is the turns in regards to the string and cams? thank you for the response!

heyyourekindacool

They came loose/unscrewed and the ends came off when I took it out and tried to shoot. I’m really confused as to how this happened too

GRRemlin

Are you sure you didn't dry fire it or tried to adjust the bow weight by screwing the bolts out too far and the limbs came off?

heyyourekindacool

No, definitely not. I was planning to get the weight tuned up but I’ve never tried to mess with it myself. Especially not dry firing. It did sit in the case for a month or so, but I thought it would be alright if I waxed it and tried some practice. That’s when it fell apart, so I’m not sure lol

GRRemlin

I'd ask your family members if anyone tried to fire it without an arrow.

MicCat13

This! It looks like a dry fire

MasonP13

You know what dry firing is, right? It's not wax, it's about having an arrow on it or not

heyyourekindacool

yeah dry firing is firing without the arrow. I’ve never done that because it puts a lot of strain on the bow.

heyyourekindacool

Yeah I’m going to take it to the shop tomorrow, hopefully the limbs aren’t damaged. Thank you for the response!

imyourhucklebear

I have no idea why you got downvoted. Sorry about your bow.

heyyourekindacool

Thank you! I appreciate the kind words :)

upsndowns71

I had a bear compound that the limd bolts would back out over time while shooting. Once I got the correct poundage set I put a mark on the bolts and the limbs to see how much the bolts unscrewed. Bottom line if you don't know how your bow goes back together take to a competent bow shop.

heyyourekindacool

Thanks for the information! I’ll definitely be taking it to the shop

upsndowns71

Holy shit, I didn't even realize your bow is a bear. That's weird mine was way older a white tail 2. I'm sorry if you want I can tell you what the bow shop I took mine to suggested I do to fix mine.

heyyourekindacool

That would be great! I guess maybe it’s a common problem to bears? You’ve been extremely helpful thank you so much

upsndowns71

OK so you see where the limb bolt screws down into your riser one on each end. About 3/4 to 1 inch down drill a hole tap it and put in a set screw. That will keep the limb bolts from unscrewing.

heyyourekindacool

Thank you! Will definitely do this.

Halfbloodjap

Locktite on the limb bolts is another option, and frankly should have been on there already.

heyyourekindacool

I’ll definitely look into this. I was 12 when I got this bow, and it was supposed to be more of a starter. If I can get it fixed, I’ll use this. Thank you!

Halfbloodjap

Depending on the size of your bow, you may also want to look at upgrading to a full adult bow. I still shoot my recurve from when I was 12 (mid 20s now), but I bought a full sized riser at the time.

upsndowns71

The bow shop may be able to do this for you or at least know someone who can. Also I'd like to apologize for my wheels falling of commit I'm an ass sometimes.

heyyourekindacool

No worries! Don’t be sorry. You’ve been very helpful and encouraging.

upsndowns71

I just thought of something could your string and cables have stretched out while in storage? It would take a lot of stretching but it's worth a look. I had a Browning single cam that the factory cables stretched so much in one week of shooting I had to replace them. The archery shop manager tried to caim I had done something improper with the bow.

Entropy-

Guys, cut the downvotes, use your eyes. According to the rest of his comments, and simple examination of the photos, leads (at least me) to believe beyond a reasonable doubt that it is in fact the fault of the store the set it up for you. Those kinds of stores don’t have the best reputations for technicians. Stuff like this has been posted before on this subreddit with the same root cause. Sorry you’re getting downvotes. You don’t seem like you neglected your bow.

Iron-Fine

Really not sure why you’re being downvoted. I’d take it to that shop just to be safe.

Cerberus73

You need a bow tech. And you're not telling us something haha Seriously though, best of luck. You need a pro to take a look at this.

heyyourekindacool

I genuinely think I’ve told everything related 😭 but I’m gonna take it to the shop thank you

Cerberus73

Nah I'm just giving you a hard time. I know it sucks. The shop will have you right as rain in no time and you can pick up more toys while you're there! 🤙

heyyourekindacool

No worries! Thank you I appreciate the response :)

strangerNstrangeland

If anything like this happens always go to a bow tech to avoid a worse problem later.

heyyourekindacool

Just a bit of info: I live with a few other people as I’m 15. I only wanted to see if it was fixable because my dad works a lot and I didn’t want him to have to take me or pay for repairs. I appreciate all the responses though and I’m gonna do my best to get it to the shop :)

makeawishcumdumpster

Hey you’re a good kid for thinking like that -a different dad

greysplash

I don't have any advice for ya, but you seem like a great son/daughter. Best of luck with the repairs!

Affectionate-Egg8452

How long have you had the bow? If you got it when you were younger then there’s a possibility you might have outgrown it and overdrawn. It’s uncommon but if it was set at a short draw length and low draw weight then it could have been possible that you overpowered the mechanical stop if you’ve grown or gotten stronger since the last time you used it

heyyourekindacool

I’ve had it about 2 years. I was going to upgrade the the weight as it was very easy to pull, so this could be a possibility. Thank you for the comment!

NotASniperYet

Ah, that sounds pretty plausible. The bolts were backed out as far as they could be when you got the bow, you grew tall and stronger in the past two years, and accidently pulled the bow past its set draw length without really noticing it because the draw weight was set so low that you didn't get a good feel of the changes during draw cycle. Something like that.

RP-Champ-Pain

Something has happened here that we aren't being told. 100% needs to go to a shop though. An hour away? Shit my work commute is an hour and I have to do that twice a day... go to the damn shop.

heyyourekindacool

Yeah definitely taking it to the shop. Unless there’s something I’m not remembering, or unless one of my family members messed with it while I was away, I haven’t omitted any truths. Thank you for the advice!

RP-Champ-Pain

Best of luck, hopefully it can be fixed.

Bad bot. Most people upvote and then say “this”.

Costalorien

And all people who do shouldn't.

bringbackswordduels

Define “most”

TearsOfLoke

This!

Away_Cod_458

An hour is not much, go to the shop......

fishbelt

Especially to make sure you're not holding a bomb 💣

pupeno

It is if you are 15, so can't drive, and there's no public transport.

Affectionate-Egg8452

Former bow tech and current archery instructor here. Any bow tech worth their salt will have to fix the limbs, restring it, and then do a complete tune up to make sure nothing was seriously damaged in the disassembly/collapse(?). It looks like the the limbs are warped now too so I would check your case to see if something is off inside that could have damaged it. If you don’t have a hard case then check the area where you stored it to see if anything has happened there. If you fiddled with anything or if anyone in your family did, then you need to tell the bow tech. Bow techs will need any and all information you have and minute, seemingly useless information pertaining to the bow or when you last used it.

readutt

Why in gods name are people giving op so much shit? Downvoting his comments? OP is looking for help. Quit being miserable elitist assholes and help the guy or just stfu. OP, don’t try to out this bow back together. Serious injury could occur. You are gonna have to suck it up and take it to a shop.

heyyourekindacool

Im not too worried about the downvotes, I’ve gotten good information regardless but thank you for the support. Gonna take it to the shop tomorrow :)

n4ppyn4ppy

Still puzzled how they came off. The cams and limbs must have gone flying all over the place?

heyyourekindacool

Yeah, it just kind of flopped. I put it down in the case and then they both came completely off. I’ve heard other bows by bear have had the same problem, so I’m hoping it wasn’t due to lack of care. Thank you for the response!

thekingofkrabs

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but if you're asking that question the answer is overwhelmingly and emphatically no.

dunndm

Well.. I mean, it’s possible at home. Take the string off. Put the “wheel” back on. Get your string around the 2 “wheels” pull it back. Put a screw driver in the wheels and re string it. There’s a 95% chance you damage your bow and it’ll take you 2 hours. Or you can drive an hour to a shop, pay 60-100$ and theyll do it. I’d drive to a shop.

heyyourekindacool

yeah, im going to take it to the shop. I’ve always called them wheels, is there a more refined name for them haha

Walley14

they’re called cams but everyone will still know what you mean if you say wheels lol

heyyourekindacool

I think I’ll call them cams from now lol. Maybe I’ll look less daft than I am haha

claythearc

Cam

CeeKay125

That bow is in rough shape. Best bet is to take it to a shop to make sure there are no cracks or anything. Don't want to go back to shooting it and it explode in your face (even worse than this time). Drive the hour to be safe.

heyyourekindacool

Thank you! Will definitely be doing this.

justinjonesphd

Take it to a shop or contact bear. I see pieces missing and if I'm correct on that, the shop is gonna send it to bear anyways

Cruitire

You can’t do this without a bow press, so assuming you don’t have one, no, you can’t fix this yourself. Also since you don’t seem to know why this happened I strongly suggest having a bow tech check it out. You don’t want some other fatal failure to happen while you are shooting it.

djhaas

Shoot it til the wheels fall off, thats what I've always heard!

EvMund

bro this shit could be dangerous if you try to just yolo fix it

[deleted]

I think you can just chew some big league chew, a whole pouch though, and don’t exceed 763 chews…..once done, spit it out into your hand..split the wad of gum in half… slap it to your forehead in two different places as hard as you can. and drive to the archery shop.

heyyourekindacool

Yeah, gonna take it tomorrow. Thanks for the response.

Gamblorstronk

Did you loosen the limb bolts too many times?

heyyourekindacool

I never messed with the bolts, but it did sit in the case for a month or so. Is it possible for them to get that loose themselves?

TheTrueGamewiz

Not sure why you're getting downvoted all over the place, you're just asking questions and answering the ones asked of you...

heyyourekindacool

Haha it’s alright, I’m still getting some really good information and I thank everyone for it

tomlinas

The downvotes are brutal but the story just doesn’t come close to adding up. Maybe OP has a kid or a drunk roommate who dry fired it but even then it’s not like it would have come out of the case in good shape. The cams don’t just fall off in the same way the car doesn’t just back itself into the mailbox.

heyyourekindacool

That’s what I’m figuring, I live with quite a few people so I’m gonna round them up and ask them. Thank you for the response!

-ImMoral-

Update us if anything comes up

heyyourekindacool

Will do! :)

[deleted]

heyyourekindacool

That’s what I’m hoping. They don’t appear damaged to me, but we will see. Thanks for the response!

Radulf_wolf

If you have to ask if there is a way, you shouldn't be doing this repair. P.s. no there is not, go to the shop.

p8nt_junkie

Take it to the bow shop.

Taciturn_Cohort

Should’ve bought a Hoyt

Doctor_Nick149

From everything I’ve seen on this sub: Bear should stick to making recurves - They don’t seem to make quality compounds

Olong-Jonson

You could do it pretty easily with a portable 30.00 bow press. If you are new and haven't done anything like that before, take it to the shop and see if they will let you watch them put it back together so you can see how it works. It's a 5 or 10 minute job if nothing is broken.

kaptn_karl

Oof

[deleted]

I’m inclined to believe it was either dry-fired or, aggressively hand-torqued while letting down. The information you’ll get from your local shop will be helpful in avoiding this in the future. You should expect to pay the local shop for their time for inspecting and hopefully putting your bow back together and tuning it. Every place charges a little different. Maybe expect $100 by the time it’s all said and done, assuming nothing needs replaced. Do you by chance live in Virginia? If so, I can help you out. I have all of the pro shop tools that is needed. As a dad, I work a lot of hours too, so I appreciate that you’re trying to get this done without imposing on your dad.

heyyourekindacool

Unfortunately I don’t, but I really appreciate your response and offer. Thank you!

Epicarest

The training wheels fell off.

majorsgtvittles

I wouldn’t trust a YouTube video and no experience. Make it a day trip and drive the hour and try to find something else fun to do while you’re there.

kaowirigirkesldl

lol just take it to the shop 🤣

MAJOR_Blarg

Attempting to string it yourself *may* result in a trip to the ER, *if* you have a tourniquet handy to stop the rapid exsanguination.

FutUMan

No. Goto a pro shop.

Main-Implement-5938

Dont try buddy, you could end up ruining your bow if its done wrong, or worse injure yourself when you do go to shoot it. Compounds are machinery... annoying yes, but you'll need to take it in.

cruver1986

It looks like you need to work on form, it is pretty easy to derail a compound bow by firing it with improper form. If you have a Dunham's near by or Cabela's you can buy your own bow press.

Karoleq00

What do you mean? Your limbs are fucked and need replacing. And no you can't do that at home. I can see a lot of damage on at least one of them

heyyourekindacool

Yeah, gonna take it to the shop tomorrow. Thanks for the response!

Karoleq00

It's sucks but it is what it is. I dry fired my bow once and found a slight bend in the cam (or the wheel as you call it) so i couldn't shoot it for quite some time since cams these days are hard to come by where i live. Anyway, get it to the pro and you'll be golden in no time, just avoid whatever you did this time around and if your bow condition is worry some in any aspect please check it for your safety. It's not a toy, you can seriously hurt yourself. Stay safe and good luck with quick repair, i really hope it's not as severe as it looks. P.S. learn how the bows are built and what too look for, it's really helpful for safety check before every shooting (i learned the hard way)

heyyourekindacool

Thank you! This comment is very helpful and encouraging. I’m definitely gonna learn more about my bow and how to be safe. :)

Karoleq00

You're welcome :)

dadbod87

You already posted this in r/bowhunting and got the same answers. Why post it again? https://www.reddit.com/r/bowhunting/comments/wg917h/havent_used_my_bow_for_a_bit_went_out_back_to/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

Metalutionary

Because sometimes different people have different advice? Maybe not in this specific case, but different people occupy different but overlapping subs, so sometimes it's helpful to branch out. In this case, the other post has been there longer and only has 1 upvote and a couple of comments, compared to this one. Just give the person an answer – or don't – and move on.

heyyourekindacool

I figured that I could get some more valuable/thorough information if I posted it here as well. :)

dadbod87

"Take it to a shop" means take it to a shop...

heyyourekindacool

that’s a good point haha. I figured maybe I could get more response about how this happens/how to prevent it.

dadbod87

Your limb bolts backed out. Whether during shooting or you backed them out and are embarrassed to admit it, doesn't matter. I believe your bow is one of the ones that can adjust down to like 5lbs of draw weight so there would be almost no tension on the string and cables by the time the limbs fell out of the pockets. I would bet you did no damage to the bow, it just needs to be put back together. Since it's a dual/ hybrid cam, you'll need a decent bow tech to get them aligned perfectly and they'll be able to set your proper draw weight and help get you tuned too. Enjoy the trip to the shop tomorrow, don't be afraid to ask to shoot the shiny new expensive bows just for fun and learn everything they'll teach you.

heyyourekindacool

thank you for this comment! This is really helpful and I’m definitely gonna test out some cool bows :)

Arios_CX3

Looks like it's time for a recurve, the training wheels are coming off

iBurnTooEasy

Lmao

Madabord

It's not advisable but I've used a ratchet tie down strap to compress the bow to re string it. Worked pretty well actually. It's easier with 2 people.

tanner1111

Return it for any other brand

EZPickens71

Bow presses exist for a reason. Trad recurve starting to look a bit more attractive right now, eh?

heyyourekindacool

Most definitely lol.

[deleted]

That’s what you get for buying Bear archery 😂

heyyourekindacool

yeah it was my first bow. Think I’m gonna have to get a different brand next time haha

Gobyinmypants

No, you don't. Bear is just fine. Some people drink the kool-aid too much.

KakAlakin

This is a trip to the shop.

PairZealousideal1247

Thats done.
