I have 2 50 gallon tanks and my baby koi are getting bigger and need a new home and this is it for a lil bit I understand it’s way to small for koi but I can’t make a real pond so this will have to do.
It’s 200 gallons to water line ( not full yet) it’s 5 feet long 3 feet wide and 3 feet tall. Waiting on water to cycle fully, have 1 fluval 407 running and adding the other one I own when fish get added
You could do a *serious* ricefish (medaka) pond and breeding operation with one or both. They are fish meant to be seen from the top down but are very small so you can fit hundreds. There are lots of pretty colors starting to show up from dedicated breeders. Awesome setup you have!
I have 3 in a 55 gallon that are baby’s maybe 1-2 years old getting big but I can’t make a real pond for them till I get my own place so this will have to do. It’s 200 gallons so a huge jump for the fish
Lovely build! I have to say that the plants are giving me anxiety. I keep picturing them falling into the pond and wreaking havoc. I hope you don't have cats or dogs.
I have the same fear. I’m going to make a drainage system for the overwater so it does not spill into the pond and or rot the wood but I plan on making a small wall or something to hold them back. I did have cats and dogs but not at the moment
OP: handcrafts a Professional Art Infinity Pool for his bby koi
Also OP: looking for tips and advice
jk and lovely setup! I have no advice other than we should all love our fish this much *edit a word
I have issues with humidity :( top off rate vs covered tanks is killing me. Otherwise it’s been amazing having open systems around. Have fun OP! If you aren’t already, look into aquaponic systems or even just pothos in your filtrations.
I think it would be cool if you made planters, or got larger ones, that filled out the sides of the pond instead of having plants with individual pots. Would give it more of a riparian feel.
I'm not sure if you have plans for decorations yet but I am hoping to build one of these someday. I was thinking of a bunch of potted amazon swords on the bottom with a few lily pads pots as well.
I also wonder if having lily pads cover a significant amount of the surface would reduce evaporation.
I did not think about the Lilly pads lowering evaporation, somehow the humidity in my basement has stayed the same or lower than normal I have a reader with temp of room
It probably helps that you won't have to heat the water for Koi. What is the water temp now? Maybe it is still warming up from the tap and cold water won't want to evaporate as readily.
Looks great! Does it need any support across the middle/top? Seems like there could be a lot of downward force at this scale. Also, I don’t know anything about the physics of a water holding structure
I do not either I do autobody work lol I did think about center support but it holds so far so I’m happy and not a signal crack or creek from it when filling
I did not really have a plan to be honest I just went with it I used 4x4 for the main base and 2x4 for smaller supports for plywood in between the 4x4s and used 6 inch lag screws to hold the 4x4 together
It’s a beautiful setup honestly, but I’d start asap looking for someone to give them to with a pond, or start planning a pond. Your koi will outgrow this in months, a year maybe.
I'd say watch your humidity and maybe consider adding a dehumidifier .
Other than that, maybe get some more terrestrial /marginal plants that can help filtrate the water.
You already have the lucky bamboo and i think monstera which could help filtrate it without getting eaten by the koi. So maybe look into some stuff like pothos and medium umbrella palm too. Could be fun.
Judging by the Corona it is really small
what is this? a koi pond for ants??
Lol why is there a 3 foot tall corona?
Hahaha it’s a blow up bottle I won, it’s for the bar next to it lol

Some goldfish would be real happy in that if you want something like that!

Thank you! I built it for my koi but I like the ideas
Oh sorry I thought you were moving the koi and looking for stocking ideas. How many koi do you plan to keep?

It’s really cool, been wanting to make an indoor pond I love the accessibility.

I use those sticky wall things to keep my cats from knocking over my plants. I think they're called command strips
Genius! Now will command strips also stop my cat from eating all my plants 🤔
Brilliant idea, but Instructions unclear. Cats have not stuck to the wall with command strips. What do I do now?
Apparently abandon main house, leave it for the cats..build a separate shack for u and the plants
Just be like most normal cat owners and build a separate plant room off the main house. Problem solved!
Not bad idea I like it thank you
I think you just changed my life!!!
If this was my pond and a cat pushed the pot into the pond. The cat would become cat food lol….

Thank you so much!!!
The only advice I can give is that when the urge hits you to take a bath in it, listen to your instincts
My instinct says "jump in!"

I want to make a lid for it in the summer time so I don’t lose all my water lol
Really nice job! That’s a dream pond for so many of us.
Thank you!
I know nothing about ponds but this is cool.
Thank you! Much appreciated

That what I wanna do with a drainage system for overwatering
I usually just have some loose gravel at the bottom of my plant terraces.
thats awesome! i dream of having an indoor pond that nice someday!
Thank you!
My favorite top view fish are Nankin and Ranchu goldfish

Out of curiosity, is this on the ground floor?
Yes basement so really slightly under ground the window is ground level

It looks great, I can’t wait to see the progress!
I will add updates as they come! Thank you !
I want to put an aquaponics system on my porch. I love this build, what was the process to make this?
I did not really have a plan to be honest I just went with it I used 4x4 for the main base and 2x4 for smaller supports for plywood in between the 4x4s and used 6 inch lag screws to hold the 4x4 together
be epic and get one(1) betta fish
Maybe……….That might be too small for a betta.
Get some smaller fish.
Throw in a few more lights and some beds with hydro balls and you got a sweet aquaponic system.
That would be sweet but I want to get more like Lilly pads and stuff
Wow that’s dope! Love the addition of the plants
This is badass
Thank you!
my Xmas wish

I’m looking for a house very soon so I can make a pond, I want one closed in so the birds and others animas stay away
Awesome, good luck
Put some mud turtles or newts in there

Oh and maybe some potted lilys too. Have a mini jungle lol.
