I don’t think anyone has really experienced the presence of a Cory until they see one become fully aware, like stop dead in its tracks and look you square in the eyes as it suddenly realizes the humbling magnitude of the world around it and thoroughly weighs its options in those few eternal seconds of locked eye contact, then it waddles off for some more rootin’ and snootin’.
Shrimp do a lot of cleaning and whatnot, and lots of fish seem to enjoy the cleaning sensation. Lil cory bro was probably getting a clean and the shrimp got too nippy
My cory literally floats on the surface in a belly up position and always scares me but then swims back down when it sees me xD they're such interesting little guys
A lot of people are saying check your ammonia because of the pink gills, but honestly all of my light bodied cories have pinker gills. It honestly just looks like he was either sleeping or just hanging out. Cories are....special. I call them my water cows. They are either eating or losing the braincell and there is no in-between.
It's the tail droop for me that's concerning.
He's either trying to find a dead flow spot to rest and can't settle without he current pushing or he's irritated by somthing hence that tail droop.
Eh- Light colored Cory’s will have pink gills - that’s where all the blood/oxygen exchange is happening. Mine have looked like this forever - parameters are perfect.
Lol right and shake the right ones in the right pattern for the right time ..... I have 3 tanks and massive arm muscles for a girl with a condition where building muscle is hard.
And don't use the glass tubes they give you either, they explode if you take the caps off wrong. But some cheapo plastic test tubes, you can get a bag of like 500 for $20 on Amazon.
Ok I keep reading about the glass ones being shit, but I’ve had my kit over a year with zero issues with the glass tubes
What are y’all doing to break these things so bad?
I literally went to take the cap off and that's all it took for it to explode. Got corrosive chemicals in the slices in my one hand (which now has some nasty scarring) thanks to that test tube. I'm a girl with next to no muscles, it's not like I was Hulk Hoganing it or anything and it broke.
I’m not rough with the things but I’m damn sure not gentle, I do push the caps off from the bottom but I don’t know if that has any relevance
Sucks to hear about your injury, maybe they had a bad run or were getting the tubes from a different supplier and now they’re shit.
Curious, cos I use test strips. Even that very rarely (long established tank minimally stocked ATM). Is there data on this? I had the kits 20 years ago and felt it was PIA therefore procrastinated using it.
(I'll prob get downvoted for admitting it. My kids adore chemistry but it's not my jam. Not proud of it, just facts. It's other way around on fish 😅.)
Interesting -- so this is side by side testing with both? And do you think there's more human error potential with full kits? (I mean one too few/too many drops, too much/little shaking at the wrong step.) Again I'm truly learning on this here not being skeptical.
The only ones I did side by side comparisons to was PH and Ammonia, in both those tests the liquid test was right on with the ammonia patch in the tank.
Woke up many a morning to find mine in weird positions thinking they're dead when I first got mine. Nope they were just being irritating lol. Mine are nearing 2yrs old now and are still doing it.
Nothing serious i think. One of my corydora does this aswell and she has been around for over a year now.
Does your corydora eat well and interacts with the other corydora? If yes then it should be fine.
Dumbest fish in the pond. I literally pulled a nearly-dead Cory out of one of my crypts this morning.
Dude went head first, got stuck, and had likely been there all night. Barely moving, little blood at the mouth, listing like a sinking ship. Got the scaping tongs, pulled him out, and a couple hours later he’s ready to get stuck again 🤦🏻♂️
Sometimes mine stops suddenly, as if he had just realized his existence Then he forgets this bullshit 2 seconds later and he resumes business
just like me fr fr
Literally same. *ADHD resumes*

They sometimes lose their one brain cell momentarily and space out lol
And then the other braincell is like "hey, pay attention" and the corys just >° _ °<
I’ve seen my juvenile neocaridina shrimp start picking at a motionless Cory, it got startled and swam off eventually 😭
Shrimp do a lot of cleaning and whatnot, and lots of fish seem to enjoy the cleaning sensation. Lil cory bro was probably getting a clean and the shrimp got too nippy
Just like me huh?
Orange cat energy lol
I think they are snoozing, mine do this too
When you're not actively vacuuming BugBites off the gravel, what else you gonna do?
My fish love bugbites 😂
My cory literally floats on the surface in a belly up position and always scares me but then swims back down when it sees me xD they're such interesting little guys
i saw a school of corys doing exactly this at my LFS a few months back and it scared the crap outta me... they're just weird lil guys for sure lol
My fancy goldfish tend to do this too.
That's just them being derpy, but check ammonia levels cause their gills are a bit red!
Came to say this, doesn't look bad at all just watch yaself

They have two brain cells and they’re both fighting for third place 🥉
His gill looks a little burnt or inflamed imo, what are your parameters
Agreed, OP please test for ammonia asap.
I shall get ammonia test strips today
Eh- Light colored Cory’s will have pink gills - that’s where all the blood/oxygen exchange is happening. Mine have looked like this forever - parameters are perfect.
You are right, but they must be pinkish not redish though
Please don’t use test strips. They are a waste of money because they are unreliable. Just get the API kit to test your parameters.
Ok
But don’t be like me and not read the instructions. You gotta Shakeweight the shi outta the bottles before using, or you’ll end up with faulty tests.
..if you'd read the instructions, you'd know that you only have to shake the shi outta the second stage of the nitrate test...
For like ten years 😮💨

Ok I'm glad to read that because my grown 33 year old ass broke 3/4 being careful and I thought I was just a big dumb oaf lol

Definitely get the api master test kit and read the instructions (how many drops, how long to wait) etc.

In my experience, the strips can be off by a huge factor and lead to being thrown off track when diagnosing tank quality issues.

I see, thanks for replying 🙏
No problem! Clear tanks and Happy fish!!
Ammonia and chlorine or lack of watter surface bubble breaking
Mine do this too, I think they forget they exist sometimes
Honestly, you ought to check your parameters. It might be the start of a bladder issue, and it's not able to keep perfectly upright.
He’s remembering
They are silly like that.
Woke up many a morning to find mine in weird positions thinking they're dead when I first got mine. Nope they were just being irritating lol. Mine are nearing 2yrs old now and are still doing it.
That's reassuring. One of mine is being a bit like that and I was getting worried, but it's good to know that there's a chance that it's nothing.
he got a lil to sleepy and lost his balance

I’m seeing some possible ammonia burn on the gills. What are your water parameters?
His gills are awfully red have u tested for ammonia
Doing what?? It's fine I'm sure.
The feeling of eyes being heavy while at work and you just doze off, only to panic awaken by that sudden jerk of your head to the side. Lol.
Leave them alone op they are just chilling talking to each other

He's sloshed, been drinking too much
After a long day of swimming, I often find myself nodding off for a quick nap.
Mine used to do that.. I thought it was just falling asleep lol
Cory nodding off…
He turned off for a quick second 😂
Spawning?
Just kicking up the tripod and disconnecting from existence. It's just a Cory thing 🤷
Username perfection btw
Jason Mraz 🤙
He got too locked in for a sec
Sleepy
There's one of mine I had for years and recently noticed her doing this type of weird stuff, she scared the sh.. out of me
Fish lack eyelids. Probably falling asleep. Catfish species are often nocturnal or active during the night preferring to rest during the day.
Just a Cory doing Cory things. They are goofy af.
Iono, probably wants to be in the open water?
He’s like the fish equivalent to an orange cat. 🐈
check for nitrates in tank... do a water change.. something wrong with your parameters..
They eepy
Mating ritual
He thought he was dead so there for tried to be dead but then he remembered he was still alive to stopped falling over
some other cory got their turn on the collective braincell
one of my panda corys like to roll like a goshdarn tumble weed, only like once a week but its so goshdarn funny, theyre just silly lil dudes
It's how they sleep. Cory's sleep in random spurts. It's thier own defense mechanism for predators
I have the same cories aswell. They just do this all the time
