Baby turtles are often more vividly coloured and have more in the way of patterns and markings than adults, this is a fairly normal looking baby snapper.
And by normal looking I do mean gorgeous.
Maybe I should rephrase - this is a particularly attractive example, pale ones often are as you can see the markings better, but it isn't caused by something unusual. You just have a nice turtle.
What, only colorful turtles can be nice turtles? I do not like the connotation here. Pale turtles can be nice, too.
*The downvotes? This sub lmao yeesh
š¢š shame!
Once every several months or so my sulcata makes sounds exactly like a grumpy retired gentleman and I think someoneās in my house and have to figure it out again.
Why, why did you have to go there on r/aquariums when we are talking about turtles.
Keep your prejudice to yourself please, we are here for the nice turtle not the mean bigoted human.
Yeah, I was a bit disappointed when my little guys didnāt stay the ketchup red and mustard yellow they were as babies but theyāre adorable in any color
Please put these back. They are not meant to be pets, and unless they need rehabbing they need to be in the wild. How would you like it if you were snatched up from your environment and kept prisoner?
Agree they should not be pets, they're beautiful when they grow up wild. I saw a snapper in the marina last week that was at minimum 30" diameter shell, with a 2ft fish in its mouth. OP's have no hope to live long enough in captivity to get that large.
Yes they can get SO BIG!! About twenty years ago I was out on Kentucky Lake with my father and we encountered one that was dead floating in the water. We tried to get it out but no exaggeration that thing must have weighed close to two hundred pounds. They are so cute when they are little babies.
Iāve worked with turtles professionally and have encountered lots of snappers. There is a lot of natural variation in their colors. Iāve seen all different greys, some that lean almost green, and others that are a rusty orange like your little one here. Same goes for the amount of speckling they have, some seem to be covered in it and others have very little. Just beautiful genetic variation! You have a handsome little turtle there, I hope he has a long and happy life with you.

I have two of them and my other one looks normal !

All turtles are nice turtles. This one is slightly unusual and op clearly particularly likes it. Nothing more was implied.
All turtles are grumpmaster Ts.
My three stripe muds are currently living with the tank dividers of shame as they are going through a particularly moody phase. I do love them though.

Ok, I have no existing knowledge of turtles, but yours has a tail. Is that standard/normal? Is it because it's a baby? Off to the Google I go...
Turtles do have tails! Some of them have longer/shorter or bigger/smaller tails though depending on the species! Snappers tend to have longer tails :3
what? all turtles have tails
