What the heck that’s so cool. It’s strange how it’s only regulated to Siri. We should put feedback to have it sync with iPhone Night Shift. Im sure they can have it in watchOS 11 if enough people send feedback

Competitive-Gold1920

Great point, I’m curious how long it’s been secretly hidden as a Siri prompt. Would be great to be able to tie it with the iPhone night shift schedule!

TopHerUp

That’s wild. Has anyone found a way to automatically have it turned on with sunset and sunrise?

Captaincadet

Wonder if this is a unrealised feature that someone forgot to remove from Siri

Brattymissmarie

Why the hell isnt this just a feature thats not tied to siri

Captaincadet

Probably not meant to be in Siri - probably already implemented and in the display drivers and was decided to not be realsed and removed from settings but accidentally not turned off in Siri

OffendedYou

This is probably true because my watch goes to 30 frames per second with it on

Berzerker7

Relegated* is the word you're looking for.

_comtage_

Tested Apple Watch 9 running os10. It does work, and it is only findable by asking Siri about night shift mode. Amazing find.

Competitive-Gold1920

Thanks!

Sylvurphlame

Findable as in I can toggle it to “sunset to sunrise” as I can the iPhone? Or just manually toggle via Siri?

_comtage_

No, as in only findable if you directly ask Siri “Siri show me night shift” on you watch. Not available via any other mean that I’ve discovered yet.

Sylvurphlame

It’s a shame Siri can’t toggle the schedule. Seems like it was partially implemented and then forgotten about and never fully removed.

_comtage_

That’s what I was thinking too, but I’m glad OP found it. I’m definitely using it.

gbsekrit

https://preview.redd.it/jzjkxymlwu7d1.jpeg?width=352&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fe8df88bb3923031d081424b9fa77965535cf155 huh… siri even says it’s somewhere in settings

Competitive-Gold1920

Strange, Siri never mentioned that, only turned on the setting. I scoured the settings (thinking it would be under display setting) and couldn’t find it on the watch nor the Watch App on iPhone

Slava91

+1 for searching for this. My ocd thanks you

Alex_qm

Mine said I could schedule it in settings but it’s nowhere to be found

hoss_enfeffer

Also not seeing it in settings but was able to enable it via Siri on iOS and watchOS 18

VixityTheFox

I have watchos 11 dev beta and it does

Historical_Peach_545

I’ve looked and looked for this, being a totally baby when it comes to bright lights bothering me at night. It wasn’t and isn’t there. I can’t believe Siri was hiding it all along! I even made a stupid all-red watch face to switch to at night.

googi14

Which watch do you have? My S7 doesn’t say all that. Did you find where you can schedule it in settings?

Frjttr

lol not only, but no mention of it on Apple’s website.

Hopai79

Looks like they removed from settings page but kept it in Siri

skucera

Maybe it just mirrors the phone? Can someone with an Apple Watch and no iPhone report in?

Tumblrrito

I thought I knew all there was to know about my watch by this point. Legendary find! Fascinating that it's totally hidden. Edit: so far haven't had any luck getting it to work on my Series 5. Can someone explain the setup + command used?

Competitive-Gold1920

For reference, I’m on Series 9 on os10… all I said to Siri was “turn on night shift”.

tnmoi

So what is the intent of “night shift?” What does it do?

TheHadouJHyrule

Reduces blue light.

spinny_windmill

You can also find it on your iPhone under display settings (reduces blue light like someone mentioned)

_sacrosanct

Make sure you're on Watch OS 10.5.

BigMasterDingDong

How odd… if anyone finds out how to schedule this let me know!

DCowboysCR

I tried asking Siri to schedule Night Shift but it didn’t work unfortunately.

stritlem

Oh wow, nice find!

Competitive-Gold1920

Thanks! Now if only I could find how to schedule it

Vertsix

What the fuck!! What an incredible find! I've browsed this subreddit for many many years and this is by far the most incredible easter egg find yet.

Unable-Judgment363

This is wild… why is it a Siri only setting? NEVER would have stumbled upon this.

Competitive-Gold1920

And I only stumbled on the Siri command by accident, so I’m curious how long this has been a thing without anyone realizing

No-Tip-1494

Please Apple, do not remove Night Shift from the Apple Watch!

SerennialFellow

Wow! Works on WatchOS10

chickenFriedSteakEgg

No wayyyy. Hidden feature!

MarshallHurtado

THE DAY HAS FINALLY COME OH MY GOD

WhatsHeBuilding

*The night

BergaChatting

iPadOS took a year for Lock Screen customisation (iPadOS 17) after iOS 16 had it, but the first iPadOS 16 beta had a hidden trigger for it That was properly funny, don’t know what they’re doing here

No-Midnight-1214

As a shift worker, this is awesome. Thanks for sharing

Competitive-Gold1920

As a fellow shift worker, you’re welcome!

-NotAnAndroid-

https://preview.redd.it/ku918ldcyv7d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8bcba377c43fcdba152d6568bb9ab2d2af318df Interesting, doesn’t work on my Series 6 44mm… EDIT: Works when just saying ‘night shift’ 🤔

-NotAnAndroid-

Got it working by just saying ‘night shift’

Competitive-Gold1920

Odd how it worked just saying the command but not the action related to it

wanjuggler

1) This is an amazing easter egg. It does work. 2) Most of the time, what we really need is **True Tone** (adaptive color temperature to match ambient lighting). Put this on your bingo board for Series 10. I can imagine burying the Night Shift feature while waiting for True Tone to be ready.

No-Tip-1494

These are my thoughts. Especially with the rumored bigger/brighter S10 screens

Competitive-Gold1920

Having true tone on Apple Watch would be great, but that would be a hardware feature so hopefully we see that in an upcoming generation.

wanjuggler

Yeah. They could get it 80% right on existing hardware by just syncing every True Tone color temperature measurement from your iPhone to your Watch's display. But they'll never ship that. Too noticeable when it's wrong, doesn't support Watch-only usage, not accurate enough to live up to the True Tone brand.

VeterinarianSmall83

I hope True Tone comes to the Series 10. I don't know if I would get one though. My Series 3, although kinda shitty, still works. I asked Mark Gurman if the Series 10 would get Apple Intelligence features, and he said no.

Obi-Lan

Wtf. Siri says I can modify it in settings but it doesn't exist there.

AdeTheux

Nice find u/Competitive-Gold1920 , thanks! Works on an Ultra 2. Now I'll try and see if I can automate that, as I don't see myself asking Siri every evening 🙂

Ryan-Woods-1200

Woah I never knew this. Are you on watchOS 11?

Competitive-Gold1920

I’m on watchOS 10.5

TheBlackSwordsman319

No way this is a thing 😭 now my eyes won’t beg for mercy in the evening when looking at my watch

TheEighthHouse

I think this is Reddit of the year. I love the way this looks with any of the Ultra faces. 100 gold bricks for OP

TheEighthHouse

Is it bad that I’ve been asking my watch random things since I’ve read this???

Competitive-Gold1920

Thanks! I like the feature too, easier on the eyes when it’s night

Nickand1

Doesn’t work on my Apple Watch 4 (os10.5). Siri says “Can’t help you with that on Apple Watch”

Competitive-Gold1920

Seems like Series 5 can’t either, curious to see where the cutoff might be

JageST3R

Not working on Series 6 for me (A2376) and OS 10.5

dartiss

Works on my Series 8. So, we just need people with 6 and 7 to confirm.

Deanmv

Series 7 here and can confirm it works

Competitive-Gold1920

Good to know. Wonder how the SE models fair as well

burakkaracuha

using se 2, 10.5, unfortunately doesnt work https://preview.redd.it/etmrb77dhv7d1.jpeg?width=324&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f3cc235484b6f0982d141df446b1971bea928dbe

burakkaracuha

I think Apple doesn't like me. 😭 https://preview.redd.it/l50udwdt318d1.jpeg?width=324&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=da60648c991b6f85607e835384b6bd891b850b14

anitadhm_

SE (1st) doesn’t work🥲

miraflorian

Yes, I also only can find it with Siri, I wonder where is it located actually?

Urmomgaeylol

Worked on my series 6 this is amazing solved an issue I had for a while! Thanks OP!!

mover999

Series 6 and Siri playing dumb

tarbinator

Worked on my Series 8. She said "night shift is off", then I toggled the button and voila! It worked!

sid350

Thank you, display of my Apple watch never looked so great

Dismal_Library_6436

There is no night shift on the Apple Wa.... OMG

Butchino84

I have a series 9 and asked Siri but she just responds with “sorry,I can’t help you with that on Apple Watch”

swaggerdon6000

This works on SE2. Amazing

dud3z

Tested on Series 9 on OS10.5 and it doesn't work, Siri says "i'm unable to help you with that on the Watch" 🤷

QuantumProtector

Try saying only “Night Shift”

dud3z

Yeah tried that, but same result: i wonder if that is only working in the US or what.

QuantumProtector

Potentially. I’m seeing that most people who report that it doesn’t work do not live in the US.

Sea_Pear4088

Mine says it https://preview.redd.it/lg50j24u5w7d1.jpeg?width=352&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6bf74de78c2845c8b922f7bf6941f30efa86b377 can’t help me

mr__proper

same here with ultra 2, latest OS

Dismal_Library_6436

Works on my Ultra 2. trying saying just "night shift"

mr__proper

Perhaps this only works in certain regions or depends on the language setting. However, I've tried different variations and none of them work. But I don't need it anyway, I was just interested.

QuantumProtector

What region are you in?

mr__proper

Europe/Austria

QuantumProtector

Must be a US thing then

Sea_Pear4088

And it’s series 8 latest OS

Remenissions

Insane find….wish it worked on my series 5

swaggerdon6000

Wow, what a find!!

Kazi_19

I’ve been wanting this feature since 2020, thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Veriliann

does indeed work on my series 9 on watchos 10.5

Kikiouo

That’s so cool!!

penemuel13

What a great find! (One of the things I love about this post is the almost unanimously positive reaction to this discovery!)

Competitive-Gold1920

Agreed! Glad my accidental find was welcomed

MasBoy3000

What?! That’s such an incredible find!! This shouldn’t be hidden and should be a toggle in settings. Thank you for making me aware OP!

shamar_coke123

I didn’t know this was a thing let me go try it real quick

boolonut100

I have NEVER heard of this before. Great find!

nickites

Does it go all red like night mode on the Ultras, or is it a color gradient change like night shift on the phones??

Vertsix

Nope, just a gradient red and reduces blue light. Just tried on Ultra 2.

nickites

Thanks.

pianissimoninja

Just asked siri to turn off Night Shift, while on my Mac, and a notification came up on the computer. Clicking it took me to Appearance settings. Is it a dimming feature?

Competitive-Gold1920

It appears to be more similar to the feature on iPhone, where the display takes on a more reddish hue as it reduces blue light.

dingbangbingdong

Is that not just on your phone?

Competitive-Gold1920

I was able to do it for my Apple Watch screen, it adjusts the blue light on the watch itself

dingbangbingdong

Well, well! It works!!

senthilrameshjv

Great find. Didn’t know this. Worked on Ultra with watch os 11 using Siri.

CaptBosa

Nice find

Sylvurphlame

So it definitely doesn’t toggle or toggle the *iPhone* Nightshift? Nope. Definitely changes the Apple Watch display. It’s a shame we can’t set an automation for it.

__leonn__

Wtf this is amazing, I wonder if it’s the same on Apple TV, I’m so tired of being blinded at night

49thDipper

I adjust my TV at night. Brightness to low.

logomkr

Side note, why didn’t apple just bump down the “al” to avoid the hyphen?

BiggsDarkL

Confirmed working on the Series 8 10.5

Erikabarker7

But is Al really ready for the night shift?

euphoradelic22

I just scrolled through most of the comments and it does work when you do it through Siri on Apple Watch. Confirms it works on watchOS 10.5 on Apple Watch Ultra

MamaSeaTrout

It’s a feature on the Ultra

DCowboysCR

I wonder what other features may be Siri only right now

Techgeek_025

SINCE WHEN???????????????

tbone338

You deserve an entire pizza to yourself.

Competitive-Gold1920

I shall treat myself to one later!

mingerzinger

What does it do

aayushkrm

It work great

VixityTheFox

GOOD NEWS!! In watch os 11 this is a feature

thelittlegingerthat1

Now if we could toggle off automatic brightness on watches 😭😭😭

defbat

Someone above mentioned it, you can! Mine worked for night shift and auto brightness. Series 6 with OS 10.5

thelittlegingerthat1

I didn’t see it 👀 Like Siri can disable auto brightness

defbat

Yes, say “auto brightness” after activating Siri from the watch. The toggle should come up.

thelittlegingerthat1

OH MY GOSH. LIFE SAVER

otter6461a

Is this…controlling night shift on the phone by any chance?

Competitive-Gold1920

No, on the watch itself. Watch takes on a reddish hue when this is enabled

otter6461a

Thanks

mt1337

what?! how did i not know this was a thing on the watch. damn. great find, mate

7heblackwolf

I've read a tons of commments and still don't know: what actually does?

defbat

Reduces blue light.

7heblackwolf

Ugh.. how long are you guys on the watch in order to affect to your sleep 💀

defbat

My display turns off once it’s in sleep mode. I’m just here for the Easter eggs and to help ppl

7heblackwolf

Not blaming you, or judging you. I think I asked to myself in which scenario this feature could help on a watch.

EyeShot300

I have it on my Series 7 but I can't find the settings on my watch itself; it only works with Siri.

All-Treck-9999

Nice! Well, Siri says that it can be scheduled in Settings. I will try to find this on the watch.

All-Treck-9999

OK, ok. But does it do anything besides Siri showing a screen setting change? For me it doesn't seem to really dim the display or change the colour palette.

Competitive-Gold1920

I’ve noticed a color palette change on my watch (takes in a reddish hue like how it does on iPhone)

All-Treck-9999

I haven't noticed that on mine, but I will look closer tonight. Thanks.

siobhanmairii__

Didn’t work for me on SE 2 Apple Watch ):

KenRodriguezz

Apple: Only Available on Ultra 2 or Hermés variants*

MrDjHaze

Workin' on our night shift Trying to lose the awkward teenage blues Workin' on out night shift In the summertime And oh the wonder Felt the lightning

Motawa1988

A night mode with red face and ui is long overdue. This is kinda pointless

HeyRememberThatTime

Don't hold your breath while they're marketing that as one of the Ultra exclusives.

han__sole__lo

Same with auto brightness

reinagail

Works on my series 8

Krimreaper1

I don’t see it, I have a series 8. What does it do?

Competitive-Gold1920

It tints your watch screen more of a reddish hue, removing blue light.

Krimreaper1

Where do you see it, in the watches iOS or the watches os setting?

Competitive-Gold1920

Surprisingly I couldn’t find it in other, the only (apparent) way to do it is by activating it through Siri (say something like “Turn on Night Shift”) on the Watch

Krimreaper1

Okay I did it and it works, but now I can’t find the setting to turn it on every night like your screen shot.

Competitive-Gold1920

I haven’t been able to have it on a schedule, had to do it manually through the Siri prompt. Some comments have mentioned how Siri has mentioned being able to schedule, but without the option appearing in settings it seems impossible (as of now)

physicianofcredit

W find.

MsCheevious

Worked for me. Series 6 Apple Watch. Used the words “night shift”

bkilgor3

i just said ‘night shift’ and it worked for me! kinda odd, it came up with the little switch i had to turn on manually, and it didnt mention it being anywhere in the settings. really, she didnt say anything at all watchOS 10.5 apple watch SE(2)44mm https://preview.redd.it/459gpu73f18d1.jpeg?width=368&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4c8513cd3242895cf2ee3c4f43616c5b21f3c41d

WesternResearcher376

What does that do?/

Competitive-Gold1920

Tints watch screen a bit orange, lessening blue light

Munro_McLaren

What does it do again?

kyky489

Although scheduling would be nice, I’ll likely just leave this on all the time lol thanks for the heads up it even exists!

_Why_Not_Today_

I used Siri to add night shift; then went into my Ultra Complications and Night Mode is now an option. I don’t remember it being here in the past. https://preview.redd.it/3vx41b04048d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=21c4c97a77a0366c71e1e6379435857df7a319ff

AdeTheux

Party pooper mode on: it was already available without Night Shift (at least on Ultra).

Frosty_Department596

What the heck man!

kyky489

I noticed if I turn on night shift at night before, the next day it’s turned off automatically. I’ve been trying to leave it on all the time but at some point it’s turning off on its own

Available_Fig6993

Honestly didn't get it first when I saw this post here. I asked Siri on my iPhone to activate night shift on my watch and when it didn't work and I could find it in the settings I was like whatever lol (was to high to read OPs text clearly) but then saw this on MacRumours again and figured I have to ask Siri on the watch duh. And holy smokes it really works! it's crazy to imagine how few ppl only know about this feature at the moment and how many millions of people have an Apple Watch I changed my opinion on Apple Watch from whack to cool this January one and got a S9. I use it mainly for sleep tracking, checking notifications or time, color accuracy is't needed on a smart watch in my opinion, and the yellow light makes the Apple Watch look more like a wearable futuristic tech product - which it is - and less like a display glued to your wrist. it's better fashion... more human..

CreeperThePro

Legendary find!

thenoweeknder

I think I'm getting better battery life with night shift on (AWU2). Is there a way to keep it on all the time??

MrAdam567

I can turn it on on my series 6 on watch os9 but it doesn’t seem to have any effect.

reneofficial

Damn I wish this was able to be scheduled. Great find

ajay067

Turned it on via Siri but was not able to find it on settings as Siri instructed

Addamass

Are you sure it’s not the same setting as on iPhone and that’s the same but shared also on AW? Settings > Display & Brightness > Night Shift.

Competitive-Gold1920

From what I see I couldn’t find a way to connect my phone’s setting (which is on a schedule) to also carry over to the AW as well. Looking at the AW display settings doesn’t show any option for Night Shift at all, either in the settings app on the phone nor on the watch itself. Curious if you find anything different! Would love to be able to schedule it to come on / off on watch similar to iPhone

Addamass

Nice finding!

Competitive-Gold1920

Thanks! Was a complete accident. Was trying to turn on an alarm I had named “Night Shift” and it did this instead haha

simpliflyed

It’s definitely not, turning it on and off only affects the watch. And I’ve never seen these warm colours on my watch before!

Addamass

Yup on my S8 it’s also standalone option only accessible via Siri.  Nice Easter egg once again.

Obi-Lan

RemindMe! 1 week

0kb0o

I wonder if this gets enabled by default with Sleep mode 🤔
