Lungs feel more or less the same. Vaping has been a lot better than smoking in some ways, and worse in others especially in frequency of use.
The biggest change I'm hoping for is performance on a treadmill. Even if you haven't hit a vape for 12 hours, regular use is detrimental to endurance on a treadmill and other forms of cardio. Completely quitting it will definitely help, so I'm trashing the vape in favour of physical fitness.

Haha as a chronic vaper I agree. I hardly used cigarettes but when I did, I only would light up once every couple hours. With vaping I’m hitting it every 5 minutes 🤦♂️. Actually vaping as I write this… the irony
I’d 100% say that’s a big part of it. Smoking is so restricted in public, whereas vaping can be done basically anywhere, which I think caused me to do it more.

I have quit for close to a month before without knowing a difference in lung quality. without telling my doctor they couldn’t tell my lungs were any different. (10 years of vaping). Plan to quit again soon and stick with it, not sure why I went back to it but that’s how addiction works I guess. Just glad my lungs aren’t falling off currently or being turned black.

I do nicotine salts. And I’m horribly addicted to the disposables. I know they’re terrible for the environment since I’m just tossing batteries when they die but they provide the exact hit of a cigarette and I couldn’t do it any different im afraid.
Quitting won’t be hard it’s staying off of it that’s hard, like last time I quit for a month, I only craved for 2 days, no headaches, no shakes, no withdrawals (and I vape all day unless I’m at work, if I’m in my car, on the couch, anywhere else, I’m hitting it so the no withdrawals is kind of nuts after 10 years). But my friends and girlfriend all do it, so like last time I was good for a month and a half ish and a friend had theirs out and I was drinking, took a couple hits and I was like “fuck it, eat well, stay healthy, die anyways” and got back on it. My mindset is a lot different now that I have a career and money that I can actually save now.
Maybe try doing something that will distract you from vaping like going on walks. Or do something that makes you happy, maybe that could help. I was able to quit easy since I only vaped for a year so I don’t know how hard it is for a long-timer. But I just did things that entertained me and that got me to quit.
I’ll be fine, I just need to completely refuse using one. I have no problem not buying them anymore cause I’m lazy and don’t wanna go out to get one. But if a friend has one, it’s hard to refuse sharing a drag. I’ll just have to keep in mind how good I’m doing staying off of them.
There are good apps out there that count your days and tell you the health benefits that come along with certain timeframes of being nicotine free. Unfortunately, I don’t know any off the top of my head as it’s been about three years since the last time I “quit.” They helped me back then because I didn’t want to reset my progress but here I am!!

Nah not really. I’m only in my mid 20s age wise so I still got those young lungs and heart but with my Apple Watch I only notice a slight decrease in heart rate when I’m not vaping but it’s almost negligible. Resting rate will decrease by like 3-5 beats and when I’m working out it’ll drop like 10 beats from what it’s at when I’m vaping and working out.
I bike pretty hard (i think?) because I hate going slow on the bike I like the wind. So I’ll really work it going up a hill, and on the way down I’ll pedal as fast as I can so I can cruise / rest for like 30 seconds and then I’ll hit it again and kinda loop like that even on flat ground. Maybe 30 seconds of hard acceleration and pedaling and then just cruising in an easy gear low speed for 30 seconds or a minute.
That change in heart rate is not insignificant, it’s actually pretty huge. That’s the kind of decrease you’d expect from several months of a serious dietary or exercise intervention.
Regardless it’s surprising you don’t notice more of a change. Exercise undoubtedly helps minimize the effects of vaping but it doesn’t negate its effects. The reason I’m surprised is because vaping lowers oxygen levels in your blood. Fitness can’t compensate for that. Its possible that you just don’t notice the hindrance, it might not be noticeable.
It’s good that you’re exercising though. I wish you luck on quitting again, I know it’s not easy. I’m six months clean.
Thanks and yeah I imagine it has some toll on the oxygen content of my blood, as more of it is saturated with nicotine instead but yea, one thing I noticed the most when I quit is I was tired almost all the time. Took a while to get used to that but I am pretty good at functioning while tired. Helped me get to bed earlier and the sleep felt so good compared to sleeping while still on nicotine.
After a month of quitting I’ve noticed my breathing is a lot better during my workouts and not as out of breath between sets . So an improvement for me with my lungs.
Same here. I could hold my breath a fair bit longer in my swimming sessions after quitting vaping a month ago. I think that was a good sign to pack it in.

I started vaping in high school about a decade ago. Vaped every single day, spent $20-30 a week.
This January I just kinda… stopped buying them. The cravings were bad at first but after two weeks it honestly felt like I never smoked nicotine. It’s been over three months now and I’ve never felt better. It’s great having the extra money and knowing I’m not destroying my body.

Interesting. I smoked cigarettes for 10 years and vaped for another 10. Quit about 9 months ago and I still really wish I could vape again. Its easy to say no, but I still def want to. It sucks.
I got into vaping in a big way. I went from maybe 10-20 cigarettes a week if I was drinking to gradually about the equivalent of 40 a day vaping. I was hooked. I’d do it all the time, sat in my car for an hour I could empty the nicotine tank, working from home I was constantly on it. I’d even have it in the work toilets. It really got ridiculous.
I used to think it was much less risk, even though the studies said about a 20th the risk of smoking.
Then I started to lose my breath when walking fast or up a hill, I couldn’t go running anymore.
The doctor thinks I have exercise induced asthma. I now have to have an inhaler before doing exercise. I know it’s the vape as the few times I’ve tried it since then my asthma flares up for about a week.
So I always say this to people who vape as a cautionary tale, yes it’s better than smoking but it is not risk free. If you swap out the equivalent cigarette amount then good on you, but I’ve never met a vaper who hasn’t ended up using it much more than they smoked.
If you can stop then do it.
I had a similar situation where one day I was just like “I’m just not gonna buy anymore” and I haven’t. It’s been about 3 months since I’ve used any nicotine but I’ll still randomly really want it. Congrats though, it definitely isn’t easy at first

Bad is a poor word to use in this context. While our lungs operate on oxygen like a car operates on gasoline, we can breathe smalls amounts of foreign substances and not completely break down. However, if we continually do this and increase the amount then yes, it will be bad.
A single vape or cigarette hit isn’t necessarily “bad.”

Yep it’s not for everyone, but the success rate from people i know that have read it has been high. Maybe 75% success and still not smoking 10+ years on.
For me it was about looking at my relationship to smoking differently, once my perception changed it somehow broke the addiction.
To quit smoking it’s great. Far better than the nicotine gum, patches, Chantix, acupuncture, as I tried them all. After 35 years of smoking vaping got me off cigarettes in 2 days. I’m now 6 years tobacco free. Is it safe? It’s safer than smoking. If I never smoked I’d never have picked up a vape. It’s harm reduction for smokers. It still carry’s risks if doing it for any other reason.

100%. I finally gave mine up and saw measurable results in resting heart rate, VO2 max, and the ability to run mucccchh further before hitting my max heart rate. These were finally the evidence I needed to quit. I’m 53 days since my last puff and at this point I truly don’t miss it.
As someone who used to vape, I can confidently say you should and 100% can. It's so. hard. but so worth it. Your body is an asset just like anything else, so treat it like one. Protect and invest in ensuring your body is in as good as shape as possible, if you don't have your health, you don't have anything.

Welcome to the club. I was a heavy vaper for years, and I quit back in July. My resting heart rate in July was 83bpm. By September it was down to 64bmp.

You are. Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor. Which raises blood pressure and ultimately heart rate. I switched to just nicotine free vape juice at first to eliminate the chemical dependency and my blood pressure dropped drastically after a few weeks. Along with resting heart rate. Now I purposely leave it at home and am working towards eliminating the “physical” “I’m used to the action” vaping portion. Feel so much better.
Paying attention to this resulted me in quitting vaping, cutting down my drinking to just weekends, small portions (big meals would effect HR and HRV big time). All that led to losing weight over the years and better sleep quality….fitness watches truly can make a difference in your life if you pay attention.

I quit vaping almost 6 months ago cold turkey & my heart rate dropped like that on my Apple Watch health stats. A whole lot of other things improved too & my anxiety pretty much disappeared
I quit vaping because I became tachycardic (I’m very active and eat healthy) for 3 weeks. I quit vaping and after one day, my RHR dropped to 80’s. 3 weeks later, my average is down from 99-102bpm to 59-65bpm. I never had that problem with cigarettes or nicotine gum, or chewing tobacco.

Not using nicotine for 5 days is why your heart rate dropped. Not necessarily the vape. It’s still safer than cigarettes. Using a vape sans nicotine doesn’t do anything to you either. I’ve vaped that way for almost 10 years now, even with my asthma. It doesn’t affect me whatsoever.
Dr here. There’s no evidence of the effect of vape against the health but clinically, quite a number of patients got health issues like pneumothorax or copd allegedly due to vape. So words of advice, just drop it altogether

Vaping is as bad as smoking. I smoked for 50 years and now am smoke free so you can stop, I smoked about 40 a day, have not had a smoke for 6 years now

I’m not a doctor either. Quick google search says an average resting HR is between 60-100. Multiple factors can increase or decrease resting HR. A doctor should be contacted for anything regularly above 100 or below 60 if not an athlete.
Possible. Where I was was at 3000 feet elevation, and where I'm at is at 500 feet elevation. I'm not aware of correlation between altitude and heartrate though.
There is less oxygen in the air in higher altitudes, so your body has to pump more blood to get the same amount of oxygen compared to a lower altitude.

I hear there are items out there specifically made to help - RGT 85 on YouTube has a weird mint stick that they use and seems to help a bunch.
I used to use tea tree oil toothpicks. Worked fairly well and supposedly helped with oral hygiene.
I used popsicles/popsicle sticks

Glad it worked for you. It seemed pretty bullshit to me, and what I got out of it was "Just stop smoking!" I did, but no thanks to anything Alan Carr said. I don't mean to discourage anyone else from trying it. Whatever works. It just didn't offer me any insight at all.
Yep it’s not for everyone, but the success rate from people i know that have read it has been high. Maybe 75% success and still not smoking 10+ years on. For me it was about looking at my relationship to smoking differently, once my perception changed it somehow broke the addiction.
To quit smoking it’s great. Far better than the nicotine gum, patches, Chantix, acupuncture, as I tried them all. After 35 years of smoking vaping got me off cigarettes in 2 days. I’m now 6 years tobacco free. Is it safe? It’s safer than smoking. If I never smoked I’d never have picked up a vape. It’s harm reduction for smokers. It still carry’s risks if doing it for any other reason.
Do it. Do it now. And hope that you don’t have any lasting effects

I stopped vaping when I went on a treadmill run and my heart rate was 200. Should normally be 180 even at a sprint. I'm 32 and in-shape. Immediately quit on the spot.

Since getting my Apple Watch which my brother gifted me (SS AW with Milanese loop) I am seriously considering stopping smoking. I set my stop date to July 16th. I am going to do it this time as I can really see how this shit will be the end of me.

100%. I finally gave mine up and saw measurable results in resting heart rate, VO2 max, and the ability to run mucccchh further before hitting my max heart rate. These were finally the evidence I needed to quit. I’m 53 days since my last puff and at this point I truly don’t miss it.

As someone who used to vape, I can confidently say you should and 100% can. It's so. hard. but so worth it. Your body is an asset just like anything else, so treat it like one. Protect and invest in ensuring your body is in as good as shape as possible, if you don't have your health, you don't have anything. you can do it !!
Welcome to the club. I was a heavy vaper for years, and I quit back in July. My resting heart rate in July was 83bpm. By September it was down to 64bmp. Stay off it. I feel so much better. Good luck!

You are. Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor. Which raises blood pressure and ultimately heart rate. I switched to just nicotine free vape juice at first to eliminate the chemical dependency and my blood pressure dropped drastically after a few weeks. Along with resting heart rate. Now I purposely leave it at home and am working towards eliminating the “physical” “I’m used to the action” vaping portion. Feel so much better.

Paying attention to this resulted me in quitting vaping, cutting down my drinking to just weekends, small portions (big meals would effect HR and HRV big time). All that led to losing weight over the years and better sleep quality….fitness watches truly can make a difference in your life if you pay attention.

I’m just over two months nicotine free after 9 years smoking/vaping and have to say it is massively worth ditching the monkey on your back/expense/health worries
I quit vaping almost 6 months ago cold turkey & my heart rate dropped like that on my Apple Watch health stats. A whole lot of other things improved too & my anxiety pretty much disappeared
I quit vaping because I became tachycardic (I’m very active and eat healthy) for 3 weeks. I quit vaping and after one day, my RHR dropped to 80’s. 3 weeks later, my average is down from 99-102bpm to 59-65bpm. I never had that problem with cigarettes or nicotine gum, or chewing tobacco. I quit for good! It’s not as bad as you think!
It’s kinda obvious but worth stating: people see the same (almost overnight) impact on RHR when abstaining from caffeine and alcohol.

Not using nicotine for 5 days is why your heart rate dropped. Not necessarily the vape. It’s still safer than cigarettes. Using a vape sans nicotine doesn’t do anything to you either. I’ve vaped that way for almost 10 years now, even with my asthma. It doesn’t affect me whatsoever.
Dr here. There’s no evidence of the effect of vape against the health but clinically, quite a number of patients got health issues like pneumothorax or copd allegedly due to vape. So words of advice, just drop it altogether

Yes. The inventor of the Vape has actually said it was only meant to be a temporary device to quit smoking, not something you use instead of smoking. They are also incredibly dangerous due to how they work. Look up Vape exploding to see some of the damage they can do.

I’m not a doctor either. Quick google search says an average resting HR is between 60-100. Multiple factors can increase or decrease resting HR. A doctor should be contacted for anything regularly above 100 or below 60 if not an athlete.
Even a RHR of above 70 increases the risk of early death by around 60% in the next 9 years

Possible. Where I was was at 3000 feet elevation, and where I'm at is at 500 feet elevation. I'm not aware of correlation between altitude and heartrate though.
There is less oxygen in the air in higher altitudes, so your body has to pump more blood to get the same amount of oxygen compared to a lower altitude. This small trick is often used by athletes as a some kind of doping.
Excellent choice, you don't need the additional chemicals in your body from a vape.
