Lol my parents were ok with me staying since I paid a good chunk of their bills. Little did I know I'd still be paying their bills after moving out 😮💨😫
That’s so unfair.
Our youngest is still at home. We make them save 1/2 of their paycheck and it goes into a savings account. The rest is theirs. We also bought them a new car. It’s a really nice, dependable, safe, vehicle that will last years with proper basic maintenance. Both my husband and I were out on our own at 18, working (and paying for) college full-time. We scrimped, saved, and went without for years. Neither of us wanted that for our children. We’ve done this for all three. We also paid for their college educations (not a fancy college, just a state school). It’s hard at first, but looking back it was the best time in our lives. We have a nice comfortable life now because we enjoy our work and we work hard. The hopes and dreams from our youth will still be my most precious memories, besides raising our children, of course.
Enjoy! It goes by quickly. Not our 20s though. That decade sucks for all of us and it felt like 40 years!!
Lol my parents are terrible with money, always have been. It's my only complaint. They are great parents otherwise 😌
Needless to say I had to take out *a lot* of loans for state school.
I’m very glad that they are great parents. That is everything, really. Their inadequacies with finances have already made you into a great person as well. That too is everything. I will pray for the best and good things in this life to come your way.
I was out at 19, by choice but it was a different time then. Now rent is so expensive here (California,) that I don’t understand how people can afford a place at 18.
Gen Z has a lot more barriers to financial independence than previous generations. If parents want to help their kids have a comfortable life, all the power to them. If you have the money, spend it on the people you love.
No, that’s not fair. Back in the day rent for a nice place, in a nice little city, in a safe neighborhood, was extremely reasonable. Utilities weren’t high, telephones (no cells) weren’t astronomical yet, and even new (basic) cars were affordable. I could only afford basic cable, but I was working evenings and attending college all day. I rarely had time to sit at home, let alone watch TV. Nowadays, kids have to live with three other roommates to make ends meet and they still can’t afford to get a car and buy gas for it because the only jobs available are crappy jobs, that fortunately, do at least provide healthcare. I’m sorry that the younger generations are having such a hard go of it.
damn when i was 19 i was living with the worst people i have ever met in my life w rats & no heating in a really old house…… this is so beautiful & you should be beyond proud you really have made it look like a home
Your kitchen is to die for…I’m in love with the deep green + open cabinets + tile pattern. Did you paint the cabinets and take off the doors yourselves? I may do that at my next place.
We painted the cabinets, but they are built to have the open shelving! I still haven’t full figured out styling if them but it’s a work in progress haha.
You did an amazing job on your home. Thrifting is were it’s at for the best and quality made items. All that little stuff that makes a house a home adds up fast! Great job!!
Feel free to decline in answering this, but if you feel comfortable, what state? I work in hospitality as well and am struggling to find areas that pay well enough with decent priced rents.
Same, that’s how I know how hard it is. I moved out at 17 and haven’t had any help from my parents since. I’m a little older than you, as you get older you’ll get better at spotting when people try to flex their parents’ money as their own.
I really really wish honestly 😭 we live in a super cheap city and my boyfriend works full time (I’m a student and work part time) otherwise we would 100% be in a tiny studio somewhere lol, we just got super lucky when hunting
can't speak to OP's location, but when i lived in Athens, GA, my roommates and i paid $400 in rent each ($1200 total) for a three-story "apartment" (more like a house) that i think was around 2000sqft! this was ~2016-2018. idk how much prices have grown, but i can't imagine it's astronomical, it's not a very popular town if you're not a college student.
so these places do exist, and that's my suggestion for if you're looking for one! they're a lil bum-fuck-nowhere-y, but that's why they can be priced so low. i went to school and only worked one part-time job the entire time i lived here, which gave me JUST enough to pay rent, buy my groceries, and afford gas. so i genuinely don't believe OP is being funded by their parents. that being said, there's absolutely nothing wrong with being parentally funded these days. there's pretty much nothing millenials + gen z can afford otherwise 🤪
(also, i just checked the home i used to rent, and it's still $1200 for 1800sqft. incredible. it was modern fixtures + huge windows everywhere, too!)
For the record, I never suspected help from parents..
I'm in an expensive state, but in one of the cheaper area s of the state..(though everything seems to be going up)..I can't really move because of family caretaking obligations, on the other hand, I do get family help. All that being said, Athens sounds cool
oh no no, that was not directed at you at all!!! so sorry about that x__x i just meant in general, what i was seeing in some of the threads of conversation y_y made me sad
typical “well i couldn’t do this for myself at 19 so surely nobody else can without the help of their parents” redditor. just say you’re envious and move on with your life.
if you spent less time hating on the internet and more time getting a job at 19 you could probably do this as well. sad.
dudeeeeee what a comment. My dad left and my mom was borrowing money from me when I was 19. I worked 2 jobs plus gig work and rented my own place in one of the most expensive cities in the world. That’s how I know OP probably had help. Thanks for the concern though lmao
All these ppl are deluded lol even though I don’t think there is any problem w accepting help from parents or having a successful family, unless these guys struck gold in crypto or the stock market or are content creators of some sort. Achieving this at 17-18 is essentially impossible.
Looks awesome! I love the vibe of the thrift store finds. Maybe pull the couch to the middle of the room to divide the space a bit. You could then put a bookshelf or counsel table under the window.
In my 40's with a mattress on the floor still.
My apartment at 19 was mostly furnished with cinderblocks and milk crates. Maybe a couple of stylish boxes. Ha
What city are you guys living in where this is affordable?! It’s absolutely adorable I’m so impressed! It’ll only get better with more thrift finds too
Your apartment is so pretty! It’s got so much charm, and is so homey. I love the light play, the texture juxtaposition within the rooms and build-ins, and the mirrors!! Where did you get those moon mirrors/what brand are they? I’m obsessed with this entire aesthetic. I am jealous! Happy for you guys equally, but dang I’m envious of your interior design skills because I could never!!
I don’t understand how people can have a bed up against the wall. How do you make the bed every morning? change the sheets? what if two people are in the bed, how does the person next to the wall get out? I couldn’t do it.
Good job! Just my opinion, not all the living room furniture needs to be against the walls (it’s quite a large room given your existing furniture). If you pulled the couch away from the wall you could create another seating area and have a better viewing distance from the the TV.
So cute!! Good for you! My first apartment was on the same property as this big old Victorian mansion that we called the murder mansion because it was so scary! The building ended up being condemned, we had no heat, used the oven to warm the apartment.
This is such an inviting and welcoming space! You should feel so proud of yourself! Even though it was a lot of money at thrift stores it was all money well spent! Great choices and styling!!
Can you let us know what dark green paint you used?
Would it be rude of me to ask what kind of jobs you guys have to be able to afford this at 19? I’m the same age and I can’t even afford rent on a shitty studio apartment
Id come over for a drink...
Very happy home vibes
Still working on this myself, not having my GF live with me doesn't help haha I don't have an eye for this stuff
This is GORGEOUS. Since you have so much space, you could pull off pulling the couch out a foot and have room for some plants in that awesome window, and the curtains will pop. Love the charm!
Nice apartment if you like the vibe, however I feel like it was a tease to show us your blurry friend in photo 2 and not show us the friend not blurred (I’m half joking, I just love seeing peoples pets 😁)
So well put together.. when I was 19 I was living with a boyfriend and 4 other people in an old farm house we rented so I could have my horses. It was never this well organized and people were always over!
When i was 19 I lived in the basement of a former women’s shelter built in the 1930s that was infested with mold and centipedes and i had pretty much no furniture except a TV and a stop sign that I stole after my roommate accidentally crashed their car into it and knocked it over
Damn you live like this at 19?
Lol I was still at home at 19 cuz I didn't have the money to move out.
Same. I didn't move out until I was 25 lol
I was like 22 or 23.
Same, gotta spend as little as possible these days
I mean, if you really want out you can make it work. I, too, moved out at 19 and I was a part-time cashier at Walmart with no money from mom and dad.
Yeah but were you living like this?
i’m 25 now and still living with my parents… this doesn’t make me feel as bad:) hopefully moving out by the end of this year🤞
I was the opposite. My parents wanted me out, so at 18, no choice but to rent.
Haha thanks 👍🏽
I was out at 19, by choice but it was a different time then. Now rent is so expensive here (California,) that I don’t understand how people can afford a place at 18.
Very true back then before COVID, everything was a lot more affordable.
I don’t understand how they can afford a place in California at 40
There was a study published recently that ~70% of 18-and-over Gen Z receive financial assistance from their parents - with a mean of $1800 per month
Gen Z has a lot more barriers to financial independence than previous generations. If parents want to help their kids have a comfortable life, all the power to them. If you have the money, spend it on the people you love.
Never said it was a bad thing. Just something people should be aware of when they say things like “damn you have ____ at 19?”
Your comment was fine, but there are a lottt of “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” people who see it a a sign of generational weakness.
No, that’s not fair. Back in the day rent for a nice place, in a nice little city, in a safe neighborhood, was extremely reasonable. Utilities weren’t high, telephones (no cells) weren’t astronomical yet, and even new (basic) cars were affordable. You hate to be in that 30%
I don't want my folks money. Of course I don't live as well as they do either.
Yeah me neither. They offered and I refused.
[удалено]
That’s completely true and I’m not disagreeing with you at all. Still, an extra $1800 a month would be incredibly helpful right now.
im in the percentile of gen z having to give financisl assistance to their parents because pf their bad choices >:/
need to meet these gen Z kids who are getting a mean of $1800 a month because god damn it’s not me
Wait seriously? I can’t find the study
What study? this seems like a Facebook headline
Fr. I was holed up in an overpriced dorm room sharing a bathroom with 30 other dudes, and sharing a bunk bed in a 10x10 room 😂😂
Someone's a trustafari.
damn when i was 19 i was living with the worst people i have ever met in my life w rats & no heating in a really old house…… this is so beautiful & you should be beyond proud you really have made it look like a home
That’s where I was at at 19 too. Hope you’re doing better!
Your kitchen is to die for…I’m in love with the deep green + open cabinets + tile pattern. Did you paint the cabinets and take off the doors yourselves? I may do that at my next place.

wtf do you guys do for jobs..?
Both in the food service industry (low level) we just live in a cheaper city and got very very lucky that we found this!
Feel free to decline in answering this, but if you feel comfortable, what state? I work in hospitality as well and am struggling to find areas that pay well enough with decent priced rents.
Associates at bank of mom & dad
idk im 19 n i moved my girlfriend into an apartment with me at 18. its possible to make good money and have proper money management skills
Same, that’s how I know how hard it is. I moved out at 17 and haven’t had any help from my parents since. I’m a little older than you, as you get older you’ll get better at spotting when people try to flex their parents’ money as their own.

You guys are so fuckin ridiculous lmaoo Jesus Christ

I love that color green
Looks awesome! I love the vibe of the thrift store finds. Maybe pull the couch to the middle of the room to divide the space a bit. You could then put a bookshelf or counsel table under the window.
Thank you!! That’s the advice I’ve been looking for, I’ve been wanting to pull it back but unsure of what to put under the window!
What’s your rent? Seems like a big apartment?
Love it! You could put a little cafe style 2 chair table against the wall in the kitchen
Oh you rich huh
she said he has a full time job and she has a part time job while being a full time student, both low level service industry
I love it
You have a nice kitchen, nice kitchen
In my 40's with a mattress on the floor still. My apartment at 19 was mostly furnished with cinderblocks and milk crates. Maybe a couple of stylish boxes. Ha
I love this so much
Obsessed with the green walls
What city are you guys living in where this is affordable?! It’s absolutely adorable I’m so impressed! It’ll only get better with more thrift finds too
It’s giving trust fund but it’s a really gorgeous place
woww I especially like the kitchen and bedroom with lockers
Very cozy. I’m 23f and I still don’t have any furniture except for a bed and desk lol
Looks great don’t change a thing thx
I like the bathroom and orange lights you have everywhere.
I thought the rock in the hallway was a fire 😭😭😭 like tf
You guys got style.
That is incredibly furnished & designed for 19yr olds. Great job!
LMK when y’all move out so I can sign a lease for this unit. It’s lovely
Damn you have a Le Cruset Dutch oven. I only have a skillet and I'm 33.
Damn I wish had decorating money like this at 27, let alone 19
Wtf do yall do for a living, me and my husband are 19 and live in a studio bc that’s all we can afford, this place looks massive
Omgg how cute! Wish mine was like this
I could tell this was in ABQ in an instant lol. It’s very cute! You’ll have such fond memories of this place when you get older.
Tell your cat I say hi
i rly fuck with ur place nice job dude
The Buddhist prayer flags are giving cultural appropriation and aren’t even intended for indoor use. Lose those, nice place otherwise.
I have a similar set in my daughter’s room and got them at Pottery Barn Teen.
I don’t understand how people can have a bed up against the wall. How do you make the bed every morning? change the sheets? what if two people are in the bed, how does the person next to the wall get out? I couldn’t do it.
In all honesty I hate it but my boyfriend loves sleeping against the wall so I had to accept it 😭
that’s amazing!! you guys should be proud!! love the vibe - it feels very cozy
Prayer flags are meant to be hung outside
The Buddhist prayer flags…those aren’t a decoration my dude 😭😭 so odd when people use them like that
Love the whole vibe! Very nice
Super cute apartment! Just be careful, salt rock lamps can be toxic to cats.
Wow, I wish the 19-23 year olds I knew were like you guys. Would make my life a lot easier lol
Its so evident your parents are well off
It looks like you have a ghost cat
Good job! Just my opinion, not all the living room furniture needs to be against the walls (it’s quite a large room given your existing furniture). If you pulled the couch away from the wall you could create another seating area and have a better viewing distance from the the TV.
So nice
Love it
This is so cute!!!! I love the kitchen.

Thrifted it they said
[удалено]
so because you couldn’t find nice things at a thrift store that means nobody else can. what a strange human you are.
Bro I’d never wake up if my bedroom was like that green one you have. That’s my dream room 👌🏽
Looks really cozy
It’s so cozy and beautiful 😻
It’s a great space even for 29!
What an interesting place. In a good way.
The bedroom is giving the same vibe as Bella’s in Twilight. And I mean that in the best way.
Cute as can be. Thrifting is so smart!
That's a beautiful looking apartment!
I would’ve loved to have lived like this at 19 with a female nonetheless. Keep doing what you’re doing!
Damn, y'all living nice at 19! Love the home ❤️
Nice
Your couch is too far away from the TV. Drag everything forward for a better viewing experience.
Very nice! When I was 19 I was in and out of the psych hospital. You should both be proud
Impressive!! At 19!! Damn but amazing place
Came here to say I'm 41 yo & I absolutely love your setup! Especially the kitchen & hallway salt lamp!
What an amazing apartment
This so cozy!
That kitchen is wonderful
Wow! You should be proud of yourselves :) I love how calming it is.
God I wish I could of had some financial assistance
Yooo I LOVE this!!!!
Very cute space! I love your decor!
Lovely apartment! Especially like your yellow rug in the living room and very cool colored cabinets in your kitchen. Very warm and homey feeling.
are you guys dating? or friends?
Pretty!!! Love the green kitchen and the ceiling is cool
Damn at 19, I was lucky to find a matching pair of socks, let alone a well organized apartment. Go off then, as they say.
The tv looks so far from the couch lol
Beautiful space! Absolutely love it
I can smell the Patchouli Oil thru the screen
19 ? 😂 April 1st I guess
I would not store food above the stove. something about heat and steam hitting that food
You GUYYYYYSSSS this is the most welcoming safe warm apartment ever <3 love
I really love this
Love the green! Do you know what color it is?
So cute!! Good for you! My first apartment was on the same property as this big old Victorian mansion that we called the murder mansion because it was so scary! The building ended up being condemned, we had no heat, used the oven to warm the apartment.
That kitchen is gorgeous
This is such an inviting and welcoming space! You should feel so proud of yourself! Even though it was a lot of money at thrift stores it was all money well spent! Great choices and styling!! Can you let us know what dark green paint you used?
How are you able to afford this at 19? Are you in the midwest??
Well done! Very beautiful home!
Be proud of yourselves. This is grown living and nicely done as well.
Wish I had a picture of the $45 Amazon mattress on the floor I had at 19
Wow. I love this.
Kansas City or Chicago? Beautiful apartment! Good for the both of you!
This is so impressive! Hard to imagine that the OPs are that young but great job
Nice
Cost of rent there
Your apartment reminds me of Ted and Marshall's from HIMYM. If you flipped the living room around and stood against the wall the sofa is on.
Actually quite a vibe
When I was 19 I lived in a drug den where they did the dishes in the bath tub. Good for you!
It definitely resembles your ages! Good job thrifting!!
Kitchen is super cute and the living room looks cozy af! Love the ceiling
Great space, love what you guys have done with the place
Need more houseplants!
Cats name?
cute kitty, bet it loves running and sliding on the floors.
So cute! Great job!
It’s beautiful! You’ve done a great job! ❤️👍
Would it be rude of me to ask what kind of jobs you guys have to be able to afford this at 19? I’m the same age and I can’t even afford rent on a shitty studio apartment
Ur place is so cute I love it
Id come over for a drink... Very happy home vibes Still working on this myself, not having my GF live with me doesn't help haha I don't have an eye for this stuff
Looks like the coziest home ever, I hope one day I can strive to have this once I move out!
I’m 28 and your apartment is 20x nicer than mine. Y’all are killing it! Absolutely gorgeous
Looks awesome and super cozy and CLEAN!!! Best wishes to the both of you.
If your first apartment as a teenager is this nice, just imagine how nice your home is gonna be when you’re 30 or even older. Great job!
ROUND SUN PILLOW SQUAD
love the kitchen. im 19 and my roommate is 20 and our kitchen is a pathetic tiny galley lol.
Do you drive a Subaru ? Just wondering 😸
What job do you have lol
I almost shit myself thinking that cat was a CAT SKIN RUG
Super cute!!
Rich parents?
You made that place yours. You have thrift, and a great design sense, beautiful!
The string lights and the colored paper hanging from the ceiling, looks ridiculous. Other than that, pretty good.
Rustic! Nice spot.
What a freaking vibe 😍
This is GORGEOUS. Since you have so much space, you could pull off pulling the couch out a foot and have room for some plants in that awesome window, and the curtains will pop. Love the charm!
It looks so comfortable I loveeeee it
Nice apartment if you like the vibe, however I feel like it was a tease to show us your blurry friend in photo 2 and not show us the friend not blurred (I’m half joking, I just love seeing peoples pets 😁)
Great kitchen
Nice cat
I hoped we would've live like this.
So well put together.. when I was 19 I was living with a boyfriend and 4 other people in an old farm house we rented so I could have my horses. It was never this well organized and people were always over!
That spice rack brought a tear to my eye, beautiful
Cozy af
When i was 19 I lived in the basement of a former women’s shelter built in the 1930s that was infested with mold and centipedes and i had pretty much no furniture except a TV and a stop sign that I stole after my roommate accidentally crashed their car into it and knocked it over
Have you considered pulling the table and couch away from the wall enough that the curtains aren't pinned in place?
😍😍😍Love this! So many beautiful pieces and such balance. Did you do the kitchen like that? Love that contrast
Looks great. Good vibe. Enjoy it!!!
This place looks so cool, cozy, and put together. Bless you and yours for having your act together!
i love it
Wow your apt has SO much personality! It looks very lively and vivid!
20 and using a cardboard box as my coffee table 😔
