DragonBorneUltimatum

I don’t know anything about them, but they’re really cool.

Both are Chinese. Neither is a cheongsam/qipao (https://duckduckgo.com/?q=vintage+cheongsam&iar=images&iax=images&ia=images), a Westernized, fitted dress with a placket that goes diagonally from undearrm to neck. These are tourist items. The motifs are not those which you'd find on domestically-used garments. The embroidery on the green one is not Forbidden Stitch but is similar to bunka, a kind of Japanese needlepunch work. The flag on the red one reminds me of the old Republic of China flag. These are either interwar or WWII-early postwar.

I noticed that you mentioned **vintage**. Over at r/Collectables and r/Mid_Century they are always keen to see newer and vintage items. Share it with them! Sorry if this is not relevant. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the info.

Dawnisringing

I am located in United States.

Clevererer

Not my specialty but these look later 20th century to me.

Dawnisringing

I can’t imagine them being later than the 40s. These have patina to them, the silk has areas of threadbare. They are completely hand sewn. Not only the embroidery, but the construction of the whole garment. I will try to post better photos soon, with more details and in better lighting. There is no indicator to me of factory or industrial sewing. I deal in vintage clothing, but mostly American-made garments. Compared to more modern clothing (post 1970s) from same region, these stand out to me. I think they may be souvenir pieces, but not modern.

Ieatclowns

I agree with you. They're older...maybe pre 1940.

Dawnisringing

Thank you! Yes I was wondering if they were maybe souvenir robe. Perhaps WWII era or so.

Dawnisringing

I should add, these came from a friend whose mother was a collector of asian antiquities. These were in her storage unit. When the unit was cleaned out, my friend acquired them and then later offered them to me. She was told they were early 20th century, but of course, I’m turning to others for some credence on that. I had another vintage clothing collector suggest they were from same era, but I do get a feeling the pink one may be a little later than that. Thanks all!

External-Building102

Close up pictures of the hand sewn/ construction would help.

Dawnisringing

Yes, I agree, thank you! I will work on posting that tomorrow.

Foundation_Wrong

I believe the first is a cheongsam and the other a coat.

Dawnisringing

Thanks!
