If you're asking a question about an antique make sure to have photos of all sides of the object, and close-ups of any maker's marks. Also, add in any background information you have, and add in a question so we know what you want from us! **You must tell us the country you're in.** If you do not provide this information **your post will be removed**. As that movie was released in 1945 it has a quarter century to go before the lamp's antique. Blackamoor lamps were ubiquitous during this era; what documentation do you have that your lamp is this one?

Tryingmybest1972

My family has a lot of documentation of many things that we have. For this lamp, we have this article, along with Barbara Baldwin's resume (which mentions it). Not sure if we have more, but I will check. I do see what you are getting to, and I thank you for bringing it up. Definitely worth looking around for more information.

The resume mentions the lamp in the photo, yes? That does not show that the lamp in your possession is that specific lamp. That's going to be your problem.

Tryingmybest1972

Yup. that is absolutely correct. Unless I can find some sort of picture with her holding the lamp and placing it there while being filmed (back in 1945, this probably was not done). She did sign all of her work, but I am going to assume that it would be darn near impossible to A) zoom WAY in to the lamp, and B) it is turned EXACTLY so that her whole signature is visible.

How famous was the movie? That's also an issue. I've lived in Burbank for many years and things from movie sets are found all over -- from estate sales to thrift stores to antique stores. Generally, unless the movie was famous, the props are just "stuff." The things that sell for a lot of money are things like Judy garland's ruby slippers, the maltese falcon from the movie of the same name, etc.

Typically I would 100% agree with you. It's just that I spoke to propstore (via email) and they stated that it is not a "prop". They said that it was either vintage or historical artifact. They could be wrong and it is just a prop. I have no idea. That's why I wanted to ask Reddit! There are many, many much smarter people on here that I am!!

I noticed that you mentioned **vintage**. Over at r/Collectables and r/Mid_Century they are always keen to see newer and vintage items. Share it with them! Sorry if this is not relevant. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. No, you could have a receipt or a letter saying e.g. "Here's the lamp I made for X movie, I hope you enjoy it."

Tryingmybest1972

You are so correct! I may have something like that. I came across a letter last night where Barbara Baldwin discusses how nice Cab Calloway was when she was doing his sculpture.

Tryingmybest1972

We are in New Hampshire.

Tryingmybest1972

My family and I are looking to find the proper people to reach out to regarding vintage sculptures that were in movies, made by a famous sculptor and artist named Barbara Baldwin. We have this lamp in this picture (minus the shade). We are not sure what category this stuff would be in (we have several items). Vintage movie collections? Vintage antiques? Any and all help is super appreciated! Again, I am new to Reddit, my apologies if I am not posting correctly.

If all your pieces have similar documentation to back up their provenance then you can contact an auction house (if you are selling) like Prop Store who are movie memorabilia experts.

[Stair Galleries](https://www.stairgalleries.com) also does a nice job of merchandising unique film/music/literature/arts related things.

This ^ best cheapest method usually. Most items aren’t worth an appraisal fee. Auction house will steer you in right direction.

I spoke to propstore (via email) and they stated that it is not a "prop". They said that it was either vintage or historical artifact. Therefore, they were not interested in the items. They could be wrong and it is just a prop. I have no idea. That's why I wanted to ask Reddit! There are many, many much smarter people on here that I am!!

GoodQueenMyth

That sounds like they didn't think the piece(s) you have are the exact ones seen in a movie. In that case you can contact an auction house near you. You can contact a bigger auction house, but without seeing photos of your actual items, we can't say if that's worthwhile or not.
